Just started using this model and I really like it. I usually do a manual pour-over, and I bought this just to play with. I'm getting really nice extractions, especially considering how fast the the thing is. Very impressive little unit. Cleanup is really quick, too. I like that I can just load to water, load the coffee, hit the switch and then focus on making my eggs instead of babysitting a manual pour. Small counter footprint, looks great...what's not to like?
We've had a Moccamaster for at least 3 years, its been great. I think the < $100 coffemakers use steel (or other) heating elements that calcify over time, so you're brews only taste acceptable for the first 6 months. The Moccamaster (and other high end models) have copper heating elements that don't ruin the taste.
You talked a lot about the brew head having a wide spray, you should have removed the lid part during the brew process so we could see it. But cool review anyway, thanks for sharing.
I just bought this model yesterday and the water outlet pipe is disappointing. I only brew 4-6 cups and the right side of the brew basket has dry grounds after the brew process ends. The outlet pipe is too short to properly wet all the grounds. Maybe it works better when using a full pot, but I'm quite disappointed that my old $50 Cuisine Art with with a single outlet hole did a better job saturating the brew basket then the KBGV Select.
@@raziel0111 Strange, I have no problem with that. As soon as the second wave of water hits the basket, all coffee is wet. I am a bit of a strange person who likes to stir the coffee no matter what though. But when I am busy and not do that, it's a great coffee anyway.
@@gailoakley4010 so would you recommend it? How’s it holding up after the months now that you have had it? Do you grind your own coffee beans? Sorry for all the questions. It’s a very expensive machine and I want to get one but not sure yet,
@@gal5322 , I definitely recommend this machine! I have no problems at all with my Technivorm. I do grind my own beans. I was amazed at how much better my coffee taste using this brewer. It is expensive, but I think it is so worth it. I don’t think you would be disappointed
I was like ooh are they finally going to include a good showerhead? Maybe? it looks possibly a bit better? Why cant they make one that actually spreads water over the full surface?
Great video. What is the difference between this model and the one that has the circle instead of the pot symbol at the switch? Is this what they call the Optio model? And what is the difference between Optio and Automatic S?
I’m the only coffee drinker in my house. Usually just drink about 12-16 oz a day. Would this be good? Also it’s now on sale for $249 I’ve never seen them on sale
I have exactly the same one. It's globally a good product, BUT: - The water shower is too short and pours mainly in the first 2/3 of the coffee bed. So, to compensate, I do not look for a flat coffee bed but with a slightly hill towards the water container. Otherwise the brew results underextracted. - Washing the paper requires to remove the water shower (unless you add additional water to wash your paper, but I do weight the water in, so I don't use the brewing water to wash the filter paper). It's bad design IMHO. - Washing the filter basket could be neglected by some users because it's black. Should be white so you see that it's time for some Pulycaff 😂 You affirm your brew is so good, just poured and so hot. I don't believe you can jutge a brew is still at 90°C... Come on! 🤔
I have had 2 Mm in the last 7yrs and the spray arm on both were big disappointments. They never saturated the entire grounds. You mentioned this has an adjustable spray , can you tell me just how this helps ? I would never buy another one unless the Achilles Heel of this expensive coffee maker is finally corrected.
Great review. I own an old version without the "Select" circuit. I just learned about it a few minutes ago on RUclips. If a Technivorm coffee maker has the switch is that mean it is a "Select" ? BTW, the coffee basket top cover is the first one to remove and the last one to install. You could do it the way you did, but it looks awkward and could drop on the floor and get kinda messy.
So can you explain why the “half-pot” option is better or different than just cutting down the 1L/60oz formula to 0.5L/30 oz? not understanding the usefulness of that feature.
The idea is that is this way the water has more time to brew the coffee. Since you have less water if it drains too quickly you may end with a “less strong” coffee.
Silly question, sorry Im new to these products. Can you make a single cup of coffee, or must you make half or full pot (like a Bunn) I am happy with my V60, but always like gear aquisition, being this is made in NL and that is one of my favorite countries on earth I have it on my short list.
I believe you can, this specific machine with a "half pot" button appears to only optimize the bloom phase dripping for a half pot... In any case, I think the machine stops automatically whenever the water is depleted. But I don't own the machine so to be confirmed...
I own one and I mosty make at least two cups of coffee with it. Even on slow / half cup it's a bit too fast to really let all the flavours out. If you only want to make one cup each time, you could indeed have a look at the one cup model. If you sometimes want to be able to make more coffee, you could however use this one and for one cup, turn in on without a pot, wait a bit, stir the coffee when it's wet and then put the pot under there. This way you give it a bit more time to develop. Works for me. Greetings from one of your favourite countries on earth. I hope you'll manage to visit The Netherlands one day.
@@alexanderpasnl Cool. I may have not been clear, I have been to NL countless times, totally over 4 months of time there. I want this machine in Orange, but sadly Technivorm tells me at least 1 whole year until they have stock in the national color. Eureka does make their Minjon grinder in Orange too.
For what this costs on Amazon, i would have expected the fit and finish to be much higher quality. Nothing demonstrated seemed to operate smoothly, herky jerky and vague. It is hot water over coffee. People have been doing that for a lot of years for a lot less than $350.
No kidding. Hulk hands really made the thing look fragile didn't he? He probably should have figured out how to use it before the video shoot. The way this guy handled it made it seem like it would be falling apart within 6 months.
It’s expensive but has high build quality it’s easy to take apart and clean or service. It is certainly going to brew better coffee than your average mr coffee pot
Can someone help me? So I fill it up to “6” on the water line. I do about 3 full scoops of the beans to grind, using the scooper that moccamaster provides. Does this sound about right? I don’t need it to be 100 percent perfect, just 90 percent is good Enuff for me. Thx!
You putting the filter basket on so awkwardly over and over was almost a deal-breaker for me. Good thing I learned that you don't know what you're doing.
The company so far does not pay any Interest to users and continues to use the primitive showerhead which only gets wet in the middle and the ends remain dry Interest
Wrong. If you fill 500 ml of water in the tank, the half pot setting takes about 1 min longer than the full pot setting with 500 ml . I tested it. I think it’s achieved by a slightly lower temperature of the heating element. The water still has the same temperature but it runs slower.
Yeah, not really. If you do that, there is not enough time for the full flavour to come out of the coffee. I've tried it. With the selector on half pot (which is really not a great name for this) it slows down the flow of water whilst keeping the temperature from both the brewer and the plate on a perfect level. You can also use this if you have a wrong grind. It gives you basically an extra option to play with. I guess you never tasted coffee from this machine. I am 47 and I really like coffee. I have and had expensive machines, I've tried all kinds of things and made delicious coffee through the years. But it never could level the coffee I tasted when I was around 16 years old and when my mother would take me to a certain diner during shopping. When I got older I thought well, I guess it's also the memory what makes it great. No lie, but when I got my Moccamaster the very first cup of coffee I had tasted like I was 16 years old again, sitting with my mother in that diner. And that same experience I am having every day since and most of these machines last for 15 years or longer without losing temperature, so I will be able to enjoy it for a long time. How many cheap $50-60 coffee machines which tastes nothing like this, will a lot of people use in those 15 years? I bought it for the quality, taste but also because I want to reduce waste and I don't want to spend money any more on not great stuff to be disappointed again. If this machine indeed lasts me that long, it has cost me less than 14 euro per year, so around 1 euro per month for the best coffee I can imagine.
I’ve been using a 741 for three years. Making half pots just about every time. Still makes wonderful coffee.
It's much easier adding and removing the filter basket if you remove the lid first
I was scratching my head why he did it that way
It’s hilarious that he keeps that top on . . .
@@scottlane6353 It's like when Lenny in Of Mice and Men was just playing with the little puppy.
That made me question buying this if it was so hard to put the filter basket in place.

You should clean machine (decalc) every month if brewing everyday. With copper or stainless steel.
it does ruin the taste lollll, just not as bad
the only way is pour over, drips are nasty
Why don't Cooper calcify and why do other metals do that, like aluminium, brass or steel?

How is the spray arm adjusted to more fully wet all the grounds? Wouldn't a circular spray head like Bonavita uses solve that problem?
You can't adjust it.
Would the half carafe setting work for 3.5 cups of water, or about a third of a carafe?
Corrected 3 1/2 ounces to 3 1/2 cups of water.
