At Ross Stores for $9.99, current version is the Altec Mini H2O 3. Comes in black, blue, mint, aqua, red, and brown. New version is the Hydramini with LED lighting. You can pair multiple of these. For the price it’s a great little personal speaker!
When purchasing this speaker it is important to buy the IMW258 model rather than the IMW257. Externally they look exactly the same, but the IMW258 adds two features: a 3.5mm port to connect the speaker to non-Bluetooth devices and the ability to pair the speaker to another IMW258 for true stereo sound. I bought two and I think the speakers sound much better in stereo mode.

Bought this today, like the size for a bike ride. Although the (fully charged) battery died at about 1hr 30 min into the ride. Thought it had 6 hrs for battery life??
Probably only does 6 hours at a lower volume. Have you timed it again?
Thanks. But being able to hear how the sound is would be nice. Most reviews just described the look and functions. But the sound is key when buying a speaker, to me.

Seeing and hearing a power on and connecting and power down sequence would have been helpful. I don't care for the speakers that blare YOUR SPEAKER IS NOW ON! so that is one of my primary concerns that I look for now. I have an older altec speaker that does that. It is so loud that it distorts when making that announcement. It sounds great, but I never use it for this reason. I'll never buy another speaker with this feature if I can help it. Give me a subtle tone, or anouncement.
HOW DO YOU USE IT? I got one for a gift and don't know how to get music out of it.
First, charge the speaker! Then, turn it on using the power button. After it's on, go into the BlueTooth settings on your phone, find the device listed there, and connect to it. Then, play some music!
If not blinking when you turn it on you have to press both volume up and down at the same time. Then pair on your phone.
Don't like this speaker because it's old :p How about testing the minirig as an alternative with a pouch? They seem to be all the rage right now. UK built and build quality is top notch. I would be interested in seeing you review this as a backpacker alternative to the more popular brands.
