A beautiful and sensitive restoration...the fabulous brass handle you married the piece up with works perfectly with the stand's original era, and the black enamel-looking finish of the umbrella receivers works a treat, LOVE the restored brass curved bars in all their original glory! Thank you.
I was just going to write it’s nice to see the original umbrella rain catching pans in great shape. They’ll look great if you can fix and polish them! It turned out beautifully. Better than the other one I saw. They threw out the pans!
Absolutely beautiful! It’s so good to have things “not” painted and keep the natural wood, it’s so much more timeless. Nowadays everybody thinks for a quick flip just paint it.
I am a 60 year old German, but i remember Brasso since i was a child. My Uncle had a ship and braught Brasso allway from England. It was better than most german brass cleaner and polisher.
It looks great , I might have used some shallac but that is just my go to finish I dont know how to use wax oil as a finish but thats why I watch videos, to learn something new. Thanks
Just seen your channel and the work you do is wonderful. So many tasks using traditional tools too, just like in my dad's toolbox. What a considered transformation, restoring it's original beauty.
As ever - brilliant! Reminds me of a similar hallstand we had when I was a child (though with the mirror and coat hooks). I wonder what happened to it - thrown out in the “contemporary furniture” ‘60s I expect! Thanks for a great video.
Handle choice was spot on. With the umbrella trays, I might have left them with the pitted look or my husband had said about make new ones out of copper. All in all a wonderful looking piece.
Very pretty! The old umbrella stands are so cool. I've decided it's a good thing I have a very small house or I would have more antique & vintage furniture than one human being needs lolol
Beautiful! And I very much like your choice of drawer pull. I actually have a similar table (same era, same wood, same design, but sans umbrella stand) and its original handle very close to your choice. Well, you've gained a subscriber...
Absolutely gorgeous. The choices you made with stain, the hardware, and making the umbrella tip wells black (if that is what they are called) were spot on. The only way to survive sanding, IMO, is to put on headphones & listen to some great music. The blues never disappoint. Weird question: Above your whiteboard on the wall, you have a green machine that looks like it sucks air or something. May I ask what that is? Finally, the new corner you made was perfect!!! I need to learn how to use those hand plank things.
so glad you liked it 😀Yep I always have some music on, it makes those dull jobs less tedious. That’s exactly what it does, it’s an air filter sucking up the dust, it’s a bit noisy so it’s never on when I’m filming. Thanks for the comments 👍
In future videos, it would be nice if you could show the whole piece for a moment. Let us look for a few seconds at the finished piece (and the before, for that matter). Constant panning and showing just portions gets frustrating if you want to actually LOOK at something. [Edited out a word that may have made this sound snarky!)

What grit sandpaper did you use on the brass?
Beautifully refinished piece, nice work! 👍🏻
Thanks, glad you liked it😀 That would’ve been 220g 👍
