A lot of people were angry because she won for Monster's Ball, a film, that included a lot of nudity and sexual content. Some opinionated critics said it was degrading and even compared her to a prostitute for her acting in the film, but I think that's outrageous and offensive. Actors should be commended for being brave enough to go the extra mile with that kind of subject matter.
I felt they gave it to her to try make the oscars "diverse". Then they gave her a shot at a lead role in cat woman and it was one of the worst failures in history. Halle berry blamed the script and sony for her failure by putting her in a crap movie but to be honest she is just not an A list star to make box offices
@@ninjaninja9954 Oh really? Halle have been in the industry for a long time making blockbuster films before and after her Oscar win. She is a A list star. I watched Cat Woman it is a very bad film and the plot didn't make any sense. The movie failure had nothing to do with Halle Berry. They are many A list actors who make films that didn't do well at the box office that's life
@@marfu1119 yeah but if you compare Berry to the other A list stars they dwarf her. She only been the main actress or co-main in like 2 movies- catwoman and moonfall which was last year. So yeah it seems like they gave her an Oscar as a political move by the lack of her movie success
I agree. People were even saying she was too pretty for that depressing needy role. She is likeable & would had gotten an Oscar for something much more dignified.
Only theatrical movies are eligible for Oscars. *Introducing Dorothy Dandridge* was a TV movie for HBO. She won and Emmy and a TV Golden Globe for that. P.S. Angela Bassett was originally offered *Monster's Ball* but turned it down.
Thanks for the reassurance. I'm worried that Viola will not be picked over another undeserved nomination for Meryl Streep.

I don't think so. She's doing a movie adaptation of Fences, a play the earned her a Tony Award win. She's probably the strongest contender for next year. Her TV recognition and loss for The Help only helps. She's long delayed an Oscar. Whenever she gets nominated again, she'll surely win.
She deserved the Oscar, just not for that movie. If the "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge" film had been a major motion picture instead of a TV movie, the Academy would've got it right on the nose. "Monster's Ball" was not her finest hour and unworthy of the nomination.
Maurice Rivers Nope, she does not deserved an Oscar at all.. It was her no black actress that gave her the Oscar. If Angela won the Oscar in 1994, she would've been left out way too soon honey...
Geez, she should have gotten an award for her speech. She is a great actress and her race should have nothing to do with it. But I really like Halle, nice lady.
She wore in the same hand holding the antique emerald ring is the famous Pumpkin Orange🍊Diamond💎Ring💍worth $1 million dollars in the 90s and was sold for $3 million dollars in 2006 and today it should be worth at least $20 million dollars coz orange🍊diamonds💎are the rarest gem on Earth!🌍
Some are saying she didn't deserve the Oscar and she only won because of the sex scene. I disagree, I think her performance was terrific in Monsters Ball.
Because she was winning for best actress, it was about her performance, not her co-stars. They could have nominated and awarded him if that's what they wanted to do.
I like Halle & everybody is right about her being too pretty for the role. It is sad she gotten her Oscar in this manner. I wish it was for Dorothy Dandridge & she rejected Monster's Ball. It was so dark, depressing, disgusting & degrading.
THANK YOU! Im glad someone else feels this way. Took me 20 years to get here though even with it hidden in plain sight. All it had to take was one simple question: "What is/who is the monster?" then all the cards that was built to gratify & celebrate a historical feat begin to topple on itself like the sunken place. You can hear the echoes of academy committee laughing at her saying "Her costar actual real name is Billy Bob? OMG. uThink we get her to talk about how her son "sho'loves some chicken?"
Need jennifer hudson to become the second black actress to win best actress in a leading role. This time for her fiery portrayal of the great aretha franklin !
I disagree. Lemme explain. I know black women. My mom is black woman. My mom is black woman who has lost a son, way too soon. I seen what that really feels like & the person uBecome. That’s my source. Ain’t no real sista alive or any that I know gonna look at that script & say “ooh. I can pretend act like this.” Next to a white boy who real actual govt name is Billy Bob.” And if ya, actually did find one, you gotta ask yourself “who raised you?” Long story, less long, I’m still waiting for the academy to award a black woman for best actress in a lead.
And then she ended up making films with cheap quality production and not Oscar worthy quality. She needs to challenge her acting skills more. Viola Davis, Lupita Nyong'o, Sophie Okonedo, Naomie Harris, Octavia Spencer, Gabourey Sidibe, and Mo'Nique all showed more acting potential with character depth. Hope Halle Berry ain't just a pretty face half Black woman.
Halle should have one, anybody who can play a character who unlike themselves the scene with halle's character and the boy who played her son was heartbreaking.

It amazes me that anyone could watch her acceptance speech and find it something to ridicule ... I will never be able to understand such viciousness..
