    I absolutely love this movie. My father showed this to me from his old computer back in the 2001 and it still manages to get me in tears. Makes me think of all the other sci-fi movies from that era and all the amazing bands that popped off throughout 2000-2010 like Linkin Park, Slipknot, Pendulum, Powermann 5000 (they're on the soundtrack), Spineshank, Rob Zombie ect.

    You don't freeze instantly in space. There's no air so you lose heat at the rate your body radiates it, which is pretty slow. He tells Cale to "exhale" to prevent his lungs from explosively decompressing. Actually one of the more accurate depictions of traversing space without a suit.

    It’s too bad you have to cut out the music for YT. There are some great songs in this movie. Speaking of sci-fi movies you might not have seen, “Battle Beyond The Stars” from 1980 is worth a watch. Kind of a b-movie level, but with some decent effects for the time. “Ice Pirates” is another classic on about the same level of the cheesy but good meter. 👍🏻

    Man I havent seen a JV or Jane reaction in a long time, but no way am I missing this one. Treasure Planet is great but in my opinion this film is the best animated film. At the time I hadn't seen many film like this, the world was lost in the beginning and I couldnt help but very immersed in this universe. I felt like I was watching a Independence day sequel where we lost the battle. This was the first VHS I asked for personally

    Awesome review! So, first off, I heard that this film flopped partially for lack of advertisement, and because the filmmakers weren’t sure if this film was more for kids, or adults (or so the story goes). Also, let’s remember that this film had competition with other family films like Dinosaur, and Chicken Run, as well as Rocky & Bullwinkle, The Kid, and some of those. Now, do I think that the characters, and/or story were fully developed? The story, pretty close! The characters, they could have maybe been better. I felt the characters in movies like Treasure Planet, and maybe even Atlantis: The Lost Empire were better fleshed out than the ones in Titan A.E. Speaking of Atlantis: The Lost Empire, that’s a science fiction film that I would highly recommend. Anyway, thanks! Well, great job once again!
    P.S. Happy 22nd anniversary to Titan A.E. as of today!

    Aw man, stuff like this was my jam back in the day!
    EDIT: To answer your question about the Drej, they are an alien species that is comprised of pure energy; much like a beehive, they're comprised of drones and a queen. Because they were made of energy as opposed to flesh and blood, they tend to view themselves as superior and basically did as they pleased. They viewed humans as a threat because we (in the movie) were advancing through technology at a rate far faster than any other alien species. In their mind, by causing humanity's extinction, they thought they were erasing a threat not only to themselves, but to the galaxy. If we could create a ship that could create planets (a stark contrast to the usual ship that can destroy planets) who knows what else we're capable of given time?

I actually watched it not too long ago for the first time in a while and I was surprised by how much of the songs I remembered lol I was going to suggest Treasure Planet because these two always make me think of the other. Ummm I don't know if you've watched these or not but; Atlantis the Lost Empire, the Iron Giant, and Starchaser: The Legend of Orin come to mind too. if my understanding of quantum physics is decent enough i believe that the way the titan works is using a graviton manipulation to make itself a planetsized gravity center which pulls in the surrounding debris followed by a tachyon pulse that speeds up the planetary terraformation allowing for the planet to form in moments instead of millions or even billions of years

    In an explosive decompression situation you've got about 30 seconds or so before permanent damage happens. Close your eyes TIGHT, blow out ALL of your breath and hold your lungs empty. As long as you get immediate medical attention the second you're back in atmosphere you should be more or less okay. You'll hate the next few weeks/months, but you'll live.

    Whoa it's very interesting to see a sci-fi afficionado watching Titan AE. I myself not a scifi fan so I'm so surprise that Titan AE actually kinda scientifically correct and quite synchronize with other scifi movies. Little fun fact, the director and writer actually have almost zero experience with scifi but they still doing Titan AE because the studio pushed the idea, so I'm surprise that scifi fan actually enjoy it! Titan AE definitely flawed, but it's not that bad. I blamed poor marketing for it's flop

  • @DoremiFasolatido1979
    @DoremiFasolatido1979 Год назад

    You can actually survive quite a while in space, provided you get immediate medical attention afterward. You can handle a solid couple of minutes. Yes, space is cold, but there's nothing in it, so you can only "cool" at the same rate your body can radiate heat, which actually isn't very fast. That's why you freeze faster in flowing 30 degree water than -30 degree unmoving air. There's nothing in space to transfer heat to, so you've got a good bit of time before you freeze to death.
    The main concerns are radiation, breathing, and your blood. The radiation exposure probably wouldn't be lethal unless you were in direct sunlight or something, but then you'd go blind and be burned to a crisp pretty quickly anyway. With no air and no magnetic field to protect you, those solar emissions would be hitting you at full power...harder than the hottest day at noon of the hottest place on Earth. The breathing thing is pretty obvious, and they actually handle it pretty well in the movie. You really don't want lungs full of air when exposed to a vacuum. It probably wouldn't injure you severely, but you'd exhale hard enough that it would hurt a lot, and might freeze your lungs.
    The blood thing isn't well understood, really. If you've got a lot of gasses dissolved in your blood, and/or have naturally high blood pressure, it could be bad, but probably not lethal right away. Thing is...there's much, much more difference in pressure between sea level above water, and being a few meters underwater...than there is a pressure difference between being at sea level and being in vacuum.
    To my knowledge, we've never just chucked someone into full vacuum. So it's a bit of an educated guess across the board.

    This is one of my favorite Don Bluth movies (the number one being Rats of NIMH of course).
    I don't know why it bombed so hard, because it's average at worst? Treasure Planet (similar vibes imo) also bombed so maybe the audiences didn't wan't sci-fi in those times? Then again, early 2000s were crazy times
    Yeah, the villains' motivation could have been explored but for what the film is, I'm satisfied. (I'm probably biased bc of nostalgia)
    My theory is that since we humans built the Titan AE (which needs energy to build a planet) and they are made of energy, they feared they'll eventually become targeted by humanity to be used for that same purpose (which ended happening at the climax lol). As for the "how" they knew about the Titan AE or what it could do, usually in sci-fi fiction energy/ non-material beings are considered more advanced or evolved than us meatbags, so It's etirely possible they had some method or technology that informed them about our threat (or, you know, old fashion spies I guess).
    Granted this is all pulled out of my ass, but my point is that the movie is good regardless.
    Thank you for reacting to this great movie :D

    Yeah, I think you nailed it with the questions you raised along the way. If sci-fi is your jam, this movie is great - I love Sci-fi and I had this dvd with director's commentary growing up. On the topic of the movie losing money, unfortunately even the folks in the commentary were not real happy with the final result. They didn't have enough budget or time to fix problems along the way. They straight up just ran out of funds for that landscape scene at the end with the terrible CG. That, and a few wonky character motivations made for a movie that didn't have enough general appeal to do well at the box office. The sci-fi was original and cool and made for a fun romp, but it wasn't enough to carry the rest for everyone else :(
    Really looking forwards to Kubo and the Two Strings - a gnarly but fantastic movie imho!

It'd be nothing like we're familiar with (if you consider "familiar" to be carbon based oxygen users like us), but the basic idea of life is a self sustaining reaction that has the ability to change as it replicates. DNA is often referred to as a code, but it only looks like that when one looks at the string of letters we interpret it as. In actuality, every one of those letters is one of the chemicals that comprises DNA, and it forms one very long string of chemical reactions. So it's not impossible for life like those sting ray looking things to exist is the vacuum of space, but they would be completely different (biologically) than anything we know currently, or would even expect to see on any Goldilocks planet (a planet that is suitable for life like ours).

    9:20 that is actually not true. Our concept of "cold" is still stuck in our terrestrial understanding of cold "air"
    but if there is no air around you, you don't feel the cold, and there is no direct cold acting upon you. Now you WILL radiate out your own heat fairly quickly, but it is not instant. You will also suffer what is called "The Bends" or Decompression Sickness, the longer you are exposed. Think when you open a can of soda, its just solid liquid while under pressure, but the moment that pressure released, bubbles start forming inside. That is what happens to your blood, but instead of carbon dioxide bubbles, its nitrogen. Also any exposed fluids, like sweat or the moist surface of your eyes or tongue, will evaporate away almost instantly. There is no way of knowing for sure, because we have no way of testing, short of throwing someone out an airlock... and that is not gonna happen.
    But basically every movie is wrong. You don't instantly freeze, because there is no cold air to freeze you. Also, you do not explode, as your body is neither made of air, nor under nearly enough normal pressure. Now... if your lungs were adapted to 100 psi or more, then MAYBE your chest would burst if suddenly exposed to vacuum... but again, we have no way of knowing for sure.

      That's why the captain tells him to exhale, to minimize the effects and minimize his lungs collapsing under the force of rapidly decompressing. Also we do know for sure the effects as people have survived being in a vacuum chamber without a protective suit.

    • @k1productions87
      @k1productions87 Год назад

      @@mazack00 the partial effects, not the full effects. To this day, no one has been subjected to full vacuum, because to do so would be an unethical practice in the extreme, and certainly fatal, regardless of how, or how long.
      What we do know comes from studies of divers who ascended too quickly and nitrogen narcosis

    • @mazack00
      @mazack00 Год назад

      @@k1productions87 That's incorrect. People have been exposed to full vacuum by accident and survived.

    • @k1productions87

      @@mazack00 key words there - by accident
      Not on purpose. And in order to do proper scientific study, a theory must be reproduceable under repeated experimentation, and they are not about to purposefully expose a person to full vacuum under extended periods of time.
      Its why studies on post-concussion syndrome are still ongoing, because they cannot experiment with deliberate blunt force trauma, they can only use cases of injury by accident or assault.
      But this is neither here nor there. The point is (which I'm sure you agree with), your body does not suddenly and violently explode when exposed to full vacuum (despite what some movies claim), nor do you freeze instantly upon exposure to a space environment (again, despite what some movies claim).
