The world’s favorite blue hedgehog is back for a next-level adventure in SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2. After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. The Golden Sonic is canonically called Super Sonic and he was introduced in the Sonic The Hedgehog 2 game, which was also Tails's first appearance. In most of Super Sonic's appearances where getting the Chaos Emeralds is optional, Sonic can turn into this form when he has all Chaos Emeralds after he collects at least 50 rings and for every second he is in this form a single ring is spent. And if he loses all of his rings he turns back to normal.
In a gaming magazine back in the Day they Actually Referred to Super Sonic as Golden Sonic as well 😂
Don't forget it's inspired by Super Saiyan
Sonic 2 is by far, one of my top favorite films of 2022! Definitely better than the first one. Love Idris Elba as Knuckles, so glad that the Master and Chaos emeralds came into play, and hyped to know that Shadow will be in the next film!

Even without the Nostalgia, this is a great video game movie adaptation. I didn't grew up playing sonic, but I still love this movie.
The pink hedgehog you’re remembering is Amy Rose. She first appeared in Sonic CD on the Sega CD which originally came out before Sonic 3, but the story takes place between Sonic 1 and Sonic 2. She was introduced when she was kidnapped by Metal Sonic and then became completely infatuated with Sonic and determined to marry him one day. She also uses a hammer.

So good . And Jim Carrey is a perfect Robotnik/Eggman ( in the original it was Eggman , they named him Robotnik in America but later also used the name Eggman. In the movie Sonic only calls him Eggman to taunt him )
Also Agent Stone is my favorite of the new characters and i hope they somehow will bring him into the games . He's so loyal to Robotnik he's the best henchman he ever had .
Of course Sonic , Tails and Knuckles were perfect and the final battle amd that reveal at the end , just wow

Knuckles he was described as 15 years old when he made his debut, but since sonic adventure, he is stated to be 16 years old.
A few things I wanted to mention! Early in the movie, Sonic calls Knuckles "the winter soldier" and later in the movie, they save each other from drowning just like Cap and Bucky.
Also, *all of Sonic's rings* were lost in that avalanche, so it'll be interesting to see what they do with that. I'm assuming both Tails and Knuckles still have loads of their own, but you never know.
There's also those people from the *very* beginning of the movie, who were working with Knuckles. We really don't know who they are, and it's likely they're going to be coming back.
There's a prequel comic which explains who the people with Knuckles were, they're nothing important, just hunters

Tails isn't female. The voice actress is a woman, but it's pretty common for casting directors to choose women to voice young boy characters since they're usually more capable of reaching the higher pitched range of voices than male voice actors
Gonna be honest, if Sonic 3 goes the way its supposed to with Shadow and this movie hurt you in the feels, the next movie may just break you haha. Can't wait when it drops man

I watched the two movies and they’re both epic! So much I can’t wait to watch the 3rd movie in the future.
For clarification, the original name for Eggman in Japan actually was Eggman. Since the localization team thought that referring to someone in reference to their stature was rude, they gave him the name of Dr. Robotnik. The compromise eventually reached by the games and used by the movies is that his actual name is “Dr. Ivo Robotnik,” while “Eggman” is Sonic’s mocking nickname for him, that Eggman himself isn’t all that opposed to.
Relative to Sonic, Knuckles is one year older than him. He's usually been said to be 16 years old when Sonic is 15. Throughout the franchise, Tails fluctuated between being as young as 12 years younger than Sonic to 7 years younger than Sonic. Since Adventure, he seems to be settled at 8. Also, Tails is a little boy. His VA has been provided by women, but I remember Tails being mistaken for a girl since before he got a voice.

I didn’t grow up with sega, and I grew up being a MAJOR Mario/Nintendo fan. I tried twice as a teen to play two different sonic games and they were way too fast for my slow brain. However, I adore these sonic movies SO much and it makes me wish that I could get into the games. Hopefully in the future I’ll be interested in the newer ones! Anyways… I’m glad to see your reaction, and the fact that you had so much nostalgia for these characters and the lore!
Sonic origins releases in 2 days and it will have sonic 1-3 and sonic cd
Sonic 2 is probably my 3rd or 4th top movie I've seen this year. 3rd if you only include movies released in NA in 2022, 4th if I include me finally seeing Three Billboards. The only other two movies above it this year, IMO, were Belle and 'Everything, Everywhere, All At Once'. (The latter which hit my top 5 movies of all time).
But the fact that not only a sequel, not only a video game adaptation, but a very clearly PG-focused movie is able to reach that level of quality is so heartwarming. Jeff Fowler and the whole team clearly put a lot of love and labor in to this movie - tiny references all over the place (ESPECIALLY to Sonic Adventure 2), much better writing than the the first movie, and so many great characters and hilarious moments. Even the action's solid.
Honestly an incredibly fun movie that I can and will watch again and again. I knew as soon as you saw the first and your reaction to it that you would LOVE the sequel, and I've never been more happy to be proven right.
As a interesting fact, the characters name IS Robotnik, doctor Ivo Robotnik.
But his nickname is Eggman given by sonic and his pals as a way to mock him, Robotnik ended up sticking with it and embracing it even tho there are times he gets sick of the nickname.
(At 10:18) despite the fact it's night time, he CAN still easily be seen. But then again, "carjacking the sheriff's car" isn't really a good idea to be discreet. Even if he is 8 years old.

Since ya said you were puzzled on the echidnas' motivation for getting the Master Emerald:
Ages ago, the echidna tribe actually forged the big Master Emerald out of the 7 little Chaos Emeralds, and used it for conquest, wiping out entire armies that got in their way. So when the owls steal it from them, they want the Master Emerald back because it is rightfully theirs, hence why Knuckles has this big weight on his shoulders in the present.
Technically he didn't do the typical "You're not my dad" line cuz that's usually in place of someone who's otherwise supposed to be the father figure. In this case he was more of a potential father figure, but they spent a whole movie previously being FRIENDS. Sonic says "You're supposed to be my FRIEND. Quit trying to be my DAD."
And it's definitely ok to cry! I know I did and I nearly had a heart attack when I finished this movie 🤩🤩🤩🤩

I theorised that the emerald Eggman infused was actualy a super emerald because it's made of both the chaos emeralds and the master emerald. So when the emeralds scattered away, only the master emerald remains. I don't know the lore of hyper sonic, but I think hyper sonic is when he's using the super emerald, making Eggman turn into hyper Eggman.
When Sonic combines all 7 emeralds it creates Chaos Control. And it creates Super Sonic. And yes I loved the first movie and I think I love this one just a bit more.
After I watched this in theaters, I learned that Jim Carrey, that played Robotnik/Eggman, was retiring after this movie so we can assume that Robotnik/Eggman is officially dead unless they decide to recast him, which I doubt since Jim Carrey is an absolute icon! 🥲❤
I did hear that Mr. Carrey was considering retirement after Sonic 1. However, he said if 2nd movie did really well (which it did), he'd come back to plat the role one more time, in a fat suit no less!

I saw this movie in theaters and I remember nerding out so hard when he went Super Sonic. I was like: "No, they aren't gonna. Super Sonic? C'mon." Then I saw the golden glow and practically leapt out of my seat in excitement.

Sadly this Eggman is dead because after finishing this move Jim Carey announced his retirement from acting.
Dr. Ivo Robotnik is his name, but Sonic mainly refers to him as Eggman due to the fact that he's shaped like an egg. Eggman eventually takes on the name in pride (or so I assume because he refers to himself as Eggman in the newer games).
Tails is around 8-10 years old, Sonic is 16 and Knuckles is 18, at least that's the age in the games.

Yes dragon ball was created before sonic but I still don’t understand they dragon ball fans think that super sonic is a direct rip from the form super saiyan. But in most games super sonic is used for the final boss but regularly you need more rings to keep super sonic in tact since if you reach 0 rings normally you turn back, but in other games like sonic generations if you lose your rings you have to start the final boss again.
I don't think many people think this, just like most don't think DB is a ripoff from journey to the west and sun wukong. I do think there will always be those kind of people though.

I'm hoping they bring back Jim Carrey and that Jason Griffith voices Shadow. But, seeing as how both of those are in doubt, what I really want for the third movie is for Knuckles and Tails to both go super. We all know Sonic and Shadow will, so why not them too?
If Jim carry doesn’t come back, why not bring in the older Robotnik that created shadow and cast Rain Wilson as him.
Dr. Robotnik was the original villain for the first original Sonic The Hedgehog games and comics in 18th - 19th centuries till in the 21st they change the name to Dr. Eggman. Not sure whythe change but it's likely to reference a joke about the doctor's appearance, in the game anyway, round like an egg.
For generations there have been many interpretations of the villain, name a few examples, like you can say that Robotnic is the predecessor of Eggman, both are one at the same just their names changed or different over the years or that of Robotnic being the ancestor of Eggman. And the latest interpretation is in this movie where he was originally named Robotnic till Sonic jokingly named him Eggman cause of his mechs.
My only issue with this film is they didn't play Crush 40 when he went Super Sonic (they made the music for the 3D Sonic games), but that's so minor that it doesn't matter. It was a fun watch

Tails is a boy, he's just voiced by a girl- it's pretty common practice in voiceover to have a woman voice younger kids, as that way it will sound like the voice hasn't changed yet. Colleen O'Shaughnessey, the person who plays Tails in the movie, has actually been voicing him in the games since 2014!
As far as character ages goes, they're all still kids- nowadays Sega doesn't give official ages, but in the past (specifically, the Sonic Heroes manual), they're ages were listed as Sonic being 15, Tails being 8, and Knuckles being 16. I have no idea if that's they're ages in the movies, though- at the very least Sonic seems a little younger, more like 12 or 13?
I like this so much better than the 1st movie, except for the subplot wedding, which is very cringey.
I personally really liked the wedding scene. My friends and I were laughing the entire time. I guess something they could've done to execute it better was add cuts between the wedding and what Robotnik and Knuckles were doing (Or even Sonic and Tom when they were captured) instead of having one entire scene devoted to Rachel and Randall. But other than that, I enjoyed it

I think they changed the ages in the movies compared to the games.
Movie Sonic: 12 or 13
Movie Tails: 10 or 11
Movie Knuckles: 14 or 15
That's just my guess though.
Jeff said Sonic is 13-14 so Tails is probably 6-7 and Knuckles is 14-15 respectively
