Best ... Video .... Ever!
and YES that is a thing! Aint nobody got time for that!
Tom R haha thanks very much Tom - and I’m glad I’m not the only one whose mind jumped to that!! Cheers, Ed
What’s your favourite whiskey
@@TopWhiskies What is your favourite blended whiskey
You can't compare it to a single malt. Nor to an Irish blended whiskey or to a decent bourbon either. But for a blended Scotch whiskey? ...it really is very nice. Ralfy likes it too, 88/100 blended mark.
Nice, I'm going to have to look for this! Cheers and I really enjoy your reviews
MY BOURBON JOURNEY well worth hunting down a bottle; and let us know what you think of it? Thanks very much, that means a lot - really glad you enjoy the videos. Cheers, Ed
honestly mate ive not seen it for a while but when it was there, I'd buy the posh stuff of MoM and stick it on the shelf and just drink this of a saturday. it 100% does the job.
You can still get this in Aldi in Ireland every once in a while. It's still very good value, and a bit of a hidden gem.
If Matt Damon was a whiskey reviewer, he’d be you.
Just picked up one in Sydney for $35.00. Good value for the quality. I don't care about the medals, just thought I might try it after watching a Ralfy review. Not the greatest whisky in the world, but it certainly did not disappoint!
Yes exactly, well put. It’s good value for a tasty dram. Not the best in the whole wild world, but perfectly respectable. Thanks for watching, and great to hear what you think. Cheers, Ed
In Spain is at 9,99 euros. Like 8,50 pounds. I remember i thought the same, i would pay twice for this.
This was funny!! If I pass an Aldi I’m going to pick up a bottle of Highland Black 8 🥃
Denise Chan very glad you enjoyed the review - and hope you also enjoy Highland Black if you’re able to pick up a bottle. Cheers, Ed
Ralfy has nothing to fear from this guy. Nice is not a word used by whisky reviewers.
I’m gonna have to use that line to my wife. But darling I’m talking to the world via the camera 😁
Maltman Mike & Friend's Show you’re welcome 😉 it is a winning line. Let us know how it goes down? Cheers, Ed
Fun video... At rare and special times I wish we had Aldi here...
foodquig very glad you enjoyed it! Ah, yes, and I feel this would be one of those rare and special moments?! Thanks for watching, Ed
It's £15.99 now. Still cracking value. Blend a little Speyside in, and you're laughing - quite literally...
The joys of inflation... And interesting idea on blending a little Speyside in!! Cheers, Ed
Maybe it’s the worlds best under £13.00? Cheers guys🥃🥃🥃🥃-Mark
WhiskyWhistle haha, yes, I am struggling to think of a full bottle of whisky I can buy for £13 or less in the U.K. that I’ve enjoyed as much as that dram. Thanks for watching Mark - hope you’re well. Cheers Ed
I had the London Aldi Problem myself. Went to london for a trip but didnt have the time to go on the epic journey to get the Highland Black. Here in the Motherland of Aldi (Germany) they dont sell it...
But today was the Day! I found one! It was on sale 4 Weeks ago which i didnt see... they still had it in stock. They didnt promote it. But now I Bought it!!! Keen to try with a friend who loves the regular German Aldi Blend Black and White from Buchannans which by the way is also really good for 9€.
I love living very close to an aldi! Try the hogwash blended malt aswell, its decent for its cheap price.
Thanks for the tip Craig, will try and pick up a bottle of that. And thank you for tuning in to watch the video! Happy New Year, Ed
To me it’s amazing how little burn there is considering this is £12.999...
Too bad I can’t find this in the US. I’m a huge fan of good cheap whiskeys.
Paule Patterson yes I know what you mean - it’s easy to find good expensive whisky, but good cheap whisky is a far rarer beast. Have you got any “go-to” good, cheap, whiskies in the US?
I have a few I fall back on: Evan William's Bottled in Bond, Old Granddad Bottled in Bond, and George Dickel’s Superior No. 12. But I am always looking for suggestions!
FYI, you should do a budget/cheap whiskey review list video.
Paule Patterson a budget whisky review is a great idea! Thanks for the suggestion, we’ll have a think about what we can put together 🙌
TopWhiskies I am SOOOO looking forward to it. I am confident that it would be relevant to so many people since most people can’t afford higher priced liquors.
So highland black beat Johnny walker???? For real???
Sucks that they don't sell anything beyond beer and some wine in the US.
That was really great advice and he is absolutely right
Really pleased that was helpful! Thanks ever so much for watching and writing. Cheers, Ed
Ain’t nobody got time for that!
We have an Aldi’s in our small town, but they only sell wine and beer☹️ I know Aldi and Tesco market special blends in the UK. Not holding my breath though. The color looks kind of Irn Bru-ish😏
Haha it does have the colour of Irn Bru! I think there might be just a little colouring in this.... ;-) Thanks for watching! Cheers, Ed
i don't know which competition to trust.
We have Aldi in Australia as well. But they have no liquor license in my State. So no 'best bottle in the world' for me ...
Oh, thats a shame... thanks for watching though, appreciate it. Cheers, Ed
I'm on a tight budget, and I like this 'Highland Black 8 Year Old' whisky. Maybe try the 'Queen Margot 8 Year' equivalent from competitor Lidl?
HB is my favourite blended Scotch for the price. Way better, for me, than Grouse, Bell's, Teacher's, JW Red... all others in that price range, most of which I need to drown in water or Pepsi in order to make them palatable. This is great on its own. A perfect low-price sipping whisky.
Ok, to be honest, you can't go wrong for a bottle of whisky for less the£13, worth a shot, or two
Haha definitely worth a shot or two, so to speak! Thanks for watching Michael, Ed
I have to pay £14 a bottle because of mininum unit pricing, but Aldi is four minutes walk away so swings and roundabouts.
OK I will give it a go at 12.99gbp
Grange34 hope you enjoy it. Let us know what you think? Ed
I've only just gotten into Whiskey really. I used to really like JD, but now it's more expensive than a lot of proper whiskeys so now I've started drinking them instead.
Yeah, JD has gone up a lot in price. What new whiskies have you started ordering?
@@TopWhiskies I really like Aberlor 10, this Highland Black is a favourite too now.
I'll keep watching your videos for more whiskeys to try.
@Quacktics are Go Thanks so much! Really glad you enjoy the videos. And you can't go wrong with the Highland Blank!
@@TopWhiskies Especially on a student budget!
Exactly right!
This coming saturday (Nov. 10) Aldi here in southern Germany will have this whiskey in their shelves. I'll definitely be giving it a try.
Hi Robert, did you manage to pick up a bottle? What did you think of it? Cheers, Ed
TopWhiskies
Yes I did. And on the same day I bought a bottle of whiskey in the same price range at another discount store and at a third discount stores real cheap bottle of whiskey. I then did my own little blind tasting test with all three bottles. To my surprise, I liked the cheapest bottle the most. Highland and the other bottle tasted very similar. Then over the next few days when I drink a glass a night, I must say I really enjoy the taste of highland. Even I. Between sips, I can still taste it. So I like that. Will I buy it again? Definitely!!!
Drink the god damn whiskey!!
Are you looking to warm your whisky to bring out some aroma compounds?
If not, GET YOUR HAND OFF THE GLASS AND HOLD IT BY THE BASE, as you're supposed to do when using a Glencairn glass...
aqacefan Richard Paterson pls xd
Bernát Csabai Absolutely!
aqacefan as you say, warming the bowl of the glass can gently bring the aromas out and enhance the flavours of the whisky. Thanks very much for watching! Cheers, Ed
sounds interesting
Worth picking up a bottle, if you get chance. Thanks for watching, Ed
Are you really British? You sound Canadian-ish....
12 Euros a bottle here in Vienna. I am going to buy a box.
No, I'm not British. I'm actually from California. But I live in the UK, have been here for over 10 years. 12 Euros is a cracking deal. Did you enjoy them?
Aldi is supermarket in the UK? Ahm...no...
Ha ha, you're right. Aldi is of course a German supermarket; just meant that they are a super market that is in the UK. ;) Where are you from?
Probably the best budget whisky in the world
Tough to argue with that? What other whiskies do you like?
Aldi's cognac and bourbon are great too.
Oh, very interesting, I’ll have to try those - particularly the bourbon. Thanks for the suggestions Stephen! Cheers, Ed
Hiya Ed , now I don't drink the bourbon straight ,I mix it with cola so I don't know wwhat it would be like for a whisky connoisseur like yourself. But the bourbon in Aldi is very cheap and doesn't give you a killer hangover.
Y'all came here for 5:55. Omg this guy just goes on and on ffs
You guys said you're going to upload new videos weekly.... hmmmm.... it's been almost a month since your last video upload 😎 LOL
Thanks for keeping us honest, Jason! We've had technical issues: our editing laptop has stopped working. We've sent it back to Apple to fix. As soon as its we've got some great content already filmed, so we'll edit it straight away and post! Apologies for the delay. Cheers, Ed
Hi Jason, the laptop lives again and we've just posted our next video. Hope you enjoy it - let me know what you think. Cheers, Ed
The idea that Aldi is only in UK & USA.... LOL
Hmm... for a dedicated whisky channel, this is rather inaccurate. The accurate description would be that Highland Black 8 has been judged to be a max 12 years' blend on par with Chivas Regal 12 and Scots Gold 12... Not exactly "best whisky in the world".
Read the below the excerpts from one of the judges of the said competition -
"The Spirits Business haven’t announced their equivalent of ‘The Best Whisky in the World’. From That’s called The Master of Masters, and they’ll reveal it to the world at the Masters awards lunch later this year. Highland Black won its medal in the Blended whisky up to 12 years old category, judged against other whiskies in the category, not all whiskies. There were three gold medals awarded in the category: Highland Black 8yo, Chivas Regal 12yo and Scots Gold 12yo. The medals aren’t awarded like in the Olympics - there’s not a maximum of one of each in each category. Each medal is an indicator of the score that whisky was given. Gold isn’t the top award that can be given in a category. That is ‘master’, hence the name of the competition - The Scotch Whisky Masters..." [spiritedmatters.com/2018/06/is-aldi-highland-black-8-year-old-the-best-whisky-in-the-world/]
RikS Hi Rik! Thanks for writing. Ok, fair cop, you got us on the title - we’ve been cheekily provocative. You’re absolutely right, as we explain as the story unfolds later in the video, there are indeed multiple categories in the competition, and there can be multiple winners in any one single category. Highland Black is just such an example - it won one single category, in which there was another winner as well. Part of our motivation for being provocative with the title of this video is to highlight that the traditional media have been a little light on the details themselves. Would love to hear your thoughts on the rest of the video, if you have chance to watch more. All the best, Ed
Hardly any US states allow supermarkets to sell liquor so don't waste too much time looking for this one
It's a real shame that it's so hard to get in the US. Do you ever make it across to the UK?
@@TopWhiskies Not too often but I am in Ireland regularly. Dublin airport is the best place in the world to buy Irish whiskey with great prices and a wide selection and it's cheaper than Heathrow. Aldi in Ireland sells this whisky.
@@sav7568 That's really lucky! What sort of Irish whiskies do you like? Have you tried anything from the Method and Madness range?
@@TopWhiskies Well you can get the same prices at Cork and Shannon. My preferred whiskey style is pot still and of those my favourite is Yellow Spot which I can buy for 60 euro while Totalwine are charging $120 plus tax. My cellar contains 3 versions of Green Spot and 3 of Redbreast. I have not tried M & M because it is quite a bit overpriced. When you see regular Green Spot at 42 euro and M & M at 78 euro the decision becomes quite easy. FWIW I will be passing through there in March and buying some Knappogue 14 which I have never tried.
@@sav7568 That's a fair point, M&M are not cheap whiskies. If you ever get the chance to try one of the expressions (at a reasonable price!) by the dram, I'd recommend it. They have some unique flavours. But you're totally right, you're hard pressed to beat Green Spot and Redbreast for quality to cost ratio. They are great whiskies. Do you mostly drink Irish, or do you also drink Scotch or other world whiskies?
Holds the glass like Biden
I never subscribe to a RUclips channel that insults me with bloody muzak.
TURN IT OFF.
Thanks for the feedback. We've turned it down and stopped using it in our newer videos
