Hi makertype! I’d like to get my camera repaired by you could you is there anyway we can get in contact?
Hi Alyssa! I'm sorry, but shipping and insurance to where I live, parts and labor time would make this more expensive than you getting it done locally. I will be happy to answer any questions you have and help remotely though!
Hi will this work for cracked screen as well?
HI Priya - yes, this is how you would replace a cracked screen as well. If your cracked screen still works, put a screen protector on it now and it won't get worse before you have time to change it.
Thanks very much for this. Saved my day! One word of caution. On my camera, the ribbon cables were locked in place by tiny hinged cover which you must flip up to unlock the cable.
Hey maker, is there any way I can contact you? I sent you a dm on instagram. When installing the board back, how did you get a perfect fit to match up? And how do I not mess up so my screen isn’t upside down when I reinstall it?
Hi! Are you talking about the driver board for the display?
If you look at your LCD screen, you will see that the gold ribbon cables come out on one specific side (left hand side, with the screen facing away from you IIRC) so there is only one way to re-install it. Ditto the little driver board - when you attach the ribbon cable, it will show you how far from the edge to tape the board. In the video you can see me test fit the screen and board in the mount before I tape everything down, take you time, and check everything multiple times before you proceed. Hope that helps!
Do you have a direct link for the screen used in this video? I can’t seem to find one that fits.
Looks like there are a few on ebay right now, the price has gone up like everything else... www.ebay.ca/itm/266122733193?hash=item3df626a689:g:-t8AAOSw7rpjFv6A&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4LimiS9Rijwf7Qh21IC8GfGeyMyIecsot4g%2F4698T8N6kPtQPZzGp08P1Cpph%2BJtmO6q%2Fg1rCEIG06ZNIE82%2ByHGRaI0que7PAi8j0FqRK%2F4wfzji4jIoEsiGryXhbO3eHsK%2FEQ2l7l3DyhREcDadVyiX5sJ7Y%2B%2FQ4NW0Yq5172VF0DIa2ctYVeNiRKNb7yg%2FVbboCONtvidelPTCJoQFmIgR9bGJ2x6mPE78XsX9xxQ0XLkBj96iKnDjex6j6Rp%2Bk3IRXptu3pcAnTjtVn14otlJf%2FLOdRvaqzQ%2Bp%2Bcj44K%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR-jHkbDpYQ
Looks daunting to fix a camera but it is a little courage, some screws, some tape, and a new part and the results are spectacular. Well done. That little heat source looks perfect for many projects. Not needing to hold it so you can control the parts is great.
Now, philosophically one may say they a digital camera without a working screen is a retro feature… snap your pics and see what you get after they “develop”! But just like that great line from THE Crossroads movie says, (the blues music movie, not the other Crossroads), “Muddy Waters invented electricity”. Analog-like experiences are great but I’ll take the new tools these days. I sure appreciate my modern cameras with screens that work! So can those with broken Canon screens who now realize all they need is a hair dryer and some tape and less than an hour. Great video.
Do you know where I can find the screws for the display screen? I’ve been looking everywhere but they’re hard to find
You can buy sets of them fairly cheaply on ebay if you search "Canon PowerShot G7X mark II screws", a set of three should run you $10-15 shipped from China. Good Luck!
Thanks for this. How did you know that the screen should be replaced and not just the flex cable? Cheers! You've got a new subscriber.
Thanks! I can't remember where in the video I mentioned it, but the touch screen was still responsive, so I knew the cable couldn't be completely severed. Plus, the most common failure point for any size of these screens seems to be the backlight failing. But to be honest, I did also order a replacement cable just in case I needed it - they were pretty cheap at that point, and now I have one in the spares box if I need it.
Hands of a surgeon brutha.
Takes one to know one, maestro - thanks for the support!
Which of the Duck double sided tapes did you use? They sell severall.
I provided an Amazon link in the description - amzn.to/3Os6hmb in Canada,amzn.to/3KxVBl4 in the States - but it's the window kit version. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much you have no idea how helpful this video to me Keep doing what you’re doing
Happy to help!
What specific screwdriver did you use? I have every screwdriver Phillips #00 and Phillips #000 but nothing is catching it.
Hi RIA! - You need a #000 JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) grade screwdriver. My kit came from Neewer, but you can get them on Amazon for under $10. Most cameras/watches/high end electronics will need JIS tips, sort of like gunsmith grade screwdrivers.
@@makertype thank you! Could you send me a direct link? I want to make sure I grab the right one

do you know if the mkii screen fits on the mkiii?
I don't, sorry - haven't had a chance to review the mk. III yet.
I got quoted $425 for this same repair from my local camera shop😭 thanks so much for this
You are welcome!! You have no idea how happy that makes me! Hope it all works out for you.
i can’t find any good listings for the replacement screen, any recommendations?
There are a lot of listings on Aliexpress right now for around $100 CAD / $80 US, about half of what people are charging on Ebay. I've bought a half dozen different parts through Aliexpress now, and had no problems at all - that's what I would try first.
