Update: The dummy battery was delivered today. I tried turning on the camera before using the dummy battery and it cut on and off as it should. I feel confident the dummy battery resolve would have worked too . I am holding onto the battery just in case. For anyone who’s wondering I used the camera for content vlogging yesterday. I was able to press the play button which allowed the camera to cut on after the battery was removed and reinserted. I turned on the auto off function to save on battery life. The camera was bought to vlog and as a lighter option to my fuji flim cameras. The canon was purchased refurbished from Canon at a great price so I didn’t want to return it as anything similar was twice in cost. Great vid and Thank U! I now have a better streaming option using the dummy battery. With the help of this vid and a Crafters youtube video that suggested the dummy battery as a reset option and reinserting the real battery after plugging in the dummy.
Omg since last year my camera wouldn’t work, I was so disheartened. I tried the power on with the battery in and out and it worked. Thank you so much 🥰
Omg! It working! My old 1000D haven't touched over 3years . I did was on and off for several times and back again the batterry.. still holding the play button. Thank you, it saves a lot
Well I know this video is quite old but yesterday I bought a Canon D40, at is sems dead, I cleaned all the contact nothing, watching many videos and nothing untill this morning it came up this one, I tried and "Voilà" it works Happy Day. Many thanks
I just got a brand new power shot sx70hs. I thought I was going to have to return my camera. Finally my camera works again. All this just bc I charged my battery.
I am having a very similar problem on my 51 week old Vixia HF G70. It does not have a power button, rather a sliding switch. Just a few days ago it would not turn on when I slid the switch to the "on" position. I tried different batteries, and even tried the external USB-C DC power adaptor. It should work with the external adaptor, and no battery, but it will not power on with the external adaptor with the battery in or out. The only way I can sometimes get it to turn on is to remove the battery and then re install it with great force. Sometimes that works. Once I do get it to turn on, it has not turned off on it's own, but if I turn it off, it is a 50/50 chance that it will turn on again. Makes no sense. As I said, it is 51 weeks old, and barely under the 1 year warranty. I just took it to Canon Factory Service Center, so hopefully they can diagnose and repair. I am worried because I purchased 2 at the same time, and #2 is still working fine, but I'm fearing it may fail a couple of weeks out of warranty....
Hello. Thank you this process worked to power on but my camera doesn’t power off either. any suggestions or is auto power option built into the camera the only option? i purchased a m200 from canon usa website and got it 1/2/24 it worked fine the three times i turned it on and randomly today it turned off. i paid $250 and can still return it but like you a used one is higher in cost.
@@Linescrew1Canada I did that and I set up the auto off after 30 seconds function as well. I spoke to canon as it’s a recent refurb purchase. They offered for me to send it in for repair or return for refund. I received the notification that my dummy battery was delivered this morning. I went to see if the camera would self power on and off and guess what? It did! Problem solved. I will hold on to the dummy battery just in case.
It’s the “alien implants” that discombobulates the battery operated boyfriend. She should investigate getting a Japanese manufactured robot boyfriend. They are anatomically correct and I’m sure there is a good variety to choose from. Unfortunately, the robots can’t pay advanced prenuptial alimony. Carolyn needs to stop volunteering to be abducted. She loves the “probes”.
@@Linescrew1Canada Nikon, baby! Except all of my cameras are film cameras. I need to take the plunge into digital photography someday. Naturally, it'll be with a Nikon.
The Nikon vs. Canon thing is like Coke vs. Pepsi. My thoughts: I think Nikon is probably a tiny bit better for still photography. I have seen many of the digital processors on both and I think the Nikon portrays the green a little nicer than Canon. BUT, I think Canon shows the blue colour (see how we spell color here LOL) a little more vividly than Nikon's blue. But this is just subjective and I mostly use Canon products for video and not still photography. And in the end, you can digitally process the end result any way that you want with software. So probably a push on the Canon vs Nikon thing.
People would ask me what camera was best and I would answer with "What is the best car?". Both Nikon and Canon made the best 35mm SLR cameras. A good friend had a pair of Nikon F2s and I followed his lead. Color was determined by the film you used. (I miss Kodachrome.) I need to research the digital cameras, as I cannot afford a top-of-the-line body like the F5 I have. Thanks for the color insight.
I have an SX40, but I don't use it very often. Mostly I just use my smartphone. While on hikes sometimes I wish I had it with me, but it's a little heavy and so I leave it behind.
When it craps out and it won't start, perhaps my video will help get it going. I priced out a new comparable replacement, and they are now very expensive. Hopefully, you get many years out of your camera.
I have two Canon Cameras Power Shot G7X Mark II purchased 2017 M50 purchased 2018 They still power on. Between both cameras, I have made hundreds of videos and still shots.
I have a canon SX50HS and I love it. However, it fell, (not hard) but now it struggles to go on and goes off by itself. Do you have any suggestions? I just watched your video and you seem to really know about canon cameras. Can you help me? I can get it to go on but then it will turn off whenever it want to. HELP!
Hello! Have yountried fixing digital cameras? I tried your techniques on my digi cam, but it wouldn't work. Do you happen to know some tips for digit cams that won't turn on as well?
Hello, please guys am having issues with my Canon EOS 700D, the screen just won't turn even with the SanDisk inside, the red light blinks, but lights displays inside the lens, not on the screen, and it shows error , when I try to take a picture or video, it shows error inside the inside the lens. Please I need help to fix this
I have Canon EOS M mirrorless camera, and tried to power it with a portable light Newer control unit, through dummy battery set up, there was an orange flashing for a moment then went dead, and now it won't power up. Does anyone know what do you think it might be?
i have a Canon PowerShot A530 and putted all the batteries in even a brand new battery but it doesn't turn on whatever i try do you know the problem with it?
Wow you helped me! Thought my camera was broken and the battery was old. But all i had to do was hold the play button. Thank you !!
Glad I could help!
I’ve attempted various approaches with no success, but your suggestions have revived my 40D! Thank you so much.

Just remove the battery to power it off if that's your only option that works.

Carolyn's RV Life had the same problem with her BATTERY OPERATED "BOYFRIEND" DEVISES...... LOL LOL LOL

Dry it out thoroughly and find out!

Thank you sir this fixed my camera. I’m so happy thank you so much.
Glad it helped. My camera does this every so often. I'm lucky I found this work around.
Worked for me. Thank you soo much!!!
That worked. But my battery charges to 4.11 Volts when the original is 3.7 volts. So maybe .4 volts is enough to detect the overcharge.
I like this stuff. Sometimes a crazy idea will fix something. It`s like Scotty on Star Trek.
