Ok i used to follow his videos but wtf its going on here
Nice video! Thanks Coach!
It looks odd that all the squatters are looking straight down at the floor - Usually I try to look at least a little in front of myself.
@Gary Rip doesnt tell anyone to do this.. its a 45 degree angle or a few feet in FRONT of you. No idea what the fuck this video is
@Gary RIP doesnt OK every single thing uploaded here.. he doesn't run this. I understand it's the official channel.
Doesn’t mark teach us that the elbows should be in line with the back angle?
Commenters: this is not how I squat therefore it is wrong and bad!
@Gary How is it inefficient? What's the injury risk? Be specific.
@@xmoogoox You stare straight at the floor/ your own toes while squatting, like these guys are?
@Ornby1 correct
@Ornby1 I was thinking the same thing when I heard it - Ornby isn't hating, he's misunderstood!
rippletoe teaching one style of squatting while ignoring that people have different bodies is pretty dangerous imo...this type of squat might not be for everyone....for me personally keeping my back more upright feels better .
look 4-to 6 feet in front of you . dont look straight down . i think there trying to reinforce hip drive . you dont want to look straight down
When they show the "regular" squat it already looks like a good morning
Right?? If you use a belt and decent weight, your gunna pop a few vertebrae easily like this
Pop a few vertebrae? That’s some fear mongering bullshit. Squatting is good for your back.
I haven't seen a single person do 405 with that ridiculous squat form. No one's going to be able to take on strain week to week.
Only to the uneducated gym bro
@@PEEERRRR I like your ambition
I think I’ve found where the French IPF team got their inspiration from
look like getting folded. where is the squat?
wtf is this?
I often use these low bar squat, and I am pretty comfortable also, but personally I don't like them. These are more of a deadlift but with bar on the back and legs bent a bit more. I would rather do more deadlift volume instead. I personally prefer high bar squat. It feels more like a squat movement even though it allows less weight. If high bar is inferior to low bar just on this point, then low bar is inferior to deadlift on same basis particularly when both resemble so closely in terms of muscle engagement.
Of course my viewpoint doesn't apply to powerlifters who prioritize the weight on the bar and low bar is better for that.
If we see the old literatures and physical culture texts, squat is referred as a "deep knee bend exercise". So on the continuum of deepest to shallowest knee bend, front squats are purest squat form and low bars are the least one. High bars and others fall in between this range. Weight on the bar is less of a concern than purity of movement pattern in this comparison.
From a strength perspective, lowbars seem to hit the legs just as much as anything else, and I'm not going to complain about improving the back more alongside it. Actually makes it preferable to me :)
My friend.. squats are not deadlifts
High and low bar are much more similar than any squat and a deadlift
Even in low-bar there is more than enough quads for most
for most things
All that really matters is how you feel, for me highbar is really uncomfortable, I always struggle to balance the bar to use more of my strength. If you feel more comfortable with one movement do it instead of the other. Same goes for sumo and conventional deadlifts.
This has not fixed my Good Morning-like squat. My butt only goes to 90% of parallel and can't go further, even with a box. Its starting to cause soreness.
I have the same problem. Have you had any success?
@@dermotmckee1418 I can't remember how exactly I fixed my problem, but I know it involved Alex Bromley's, Squat University's, and Alan Thrall's squat videos. They each have a couple that teach the setup, bracing, and form like I just started inhabiting a human body yesterday and barely have the skill of a newborn giraffe.
Notes:
Breathe in to your gut until you feel it in your low back.
Your scapular spine is lower than you think
This tutorial explains why SS lifters have no leg development
SS is not bodybuilding
I would not feel comfortable at all squatting like this. This bent over looking at the floor squat just looks horrible.
Honestly, what the heck is that tutorial. Maybe for a suited lifter that may be necessary. For others, even low bar lifters, the chest still stays high. Weight goes over the whole foot. The bar path is constant and should not deviate. To say lean over in my opinion is a horrible first cue. I always tell trainees the following: deep breath and brace, two steps back, brace again, weight over the whole foot, chest high. Yes, some lean will often occur, but it’s not something that should be emphasized.
@Ornby1 what do you mean?
@Ornby1 when you take those steps back, you brace and make sure the weight is placed over the whole foot. I personally believe the initial movement should be both from your hips and knees. It’s old school thinking to sit back. By breaking from the knees and hips the bar path will stay straight. The problem with just sitting back is people often do a good morning when standing. Also, I suggest watching some videos of power lifters who are not suited.
If anything in equipment you want to stay even more upright as your upper back/torso will almost always be the limiting factor
How in the world are you gonna squat low bar without bending over????
@@aaa-tm9dc there will always be some lean depending on anatomy, mobility, etc.. But I’d never cue a person to lean over. You aren’t trying to lean over on any squat. That’s just silly coaching. Plus, the bar path would naturally want to move too much as the person begins to ascent. Not smart at all.
Loll goofy stuff. None of the best squatters in the world squat this way, absolutely none period!
Power lifters do, these people are literally doing squats for their first time so it doesn’t look right. All the elite lifters squat this way in IPF.
What are those shoes ?😢
Theyre for yoga and mobility. Great for balancing on a bosu ball
dude, I was thinking the same thing
Water shoes
Total bullshit.
Most unaesthetic squat in history. I'll stick to my highbar squat. SS really is only good for people who have never worked out and are old. No ones breaking any records at these gyms.
no one's breaking records at most gyms, period....
I wonder why its called STARTING strength
How much is a record-breaker like yourself squatting?
Just lmfao
Aesthetic- concerned with beauty or the appreciation of beauty.
If you're concerned with looking good in the gym, you shouldn't be there anyway.
Jesus that's horrible.
wtf is this ???
