Today we're talking about how to propagate a new bushy plant from an old leggy Pothos with long sections of vine that do not have any leaves. The plants are still healthy but not looking great. We love big bushy Pothos and have a palpable predilection for periodically practicing proper Pothos plant propagation and politely pruning pretty petite perfectly potted Pothos primarily for the purpose of play on this precious planet. Let's see how it turned out.
Pothos is considered toxic. If you've got a naughty pet that like to eat your plants make sure to keep them out of reach!l

I just gave our crazy leggy office pothos a haircut and there are sooooo many bare vines! I figured there had to be a way to regrow these nodes, so I'm so glad you made this!

Very true! These are a bit like Jade as they can get out of hand and take over your space when propagating all the cuttings. I have had to gift away several of these.

Thanks for another relaxing enjoyable video! I especially like how you show the results. I have always been a water propagater until recently. I’m not really sure of how much to water and when tho. 🤔
Thanks! The main thing to remember is when the cuttings don't have any roots they are not taking up any water so the growing medium should have just enough water to provide a really humid environment for the cutting to root. About as much water as a well wrung out sponge. I also recommend using a 50/50 perlite and potting mix or something really well draining. I probably would not have had the rot issue in this case if I would have had a better draining mix but I had run out of perlite.

Does it matter what end goes into the soil? Or it’s just a matter of a node being covered?
It doesn't REALLY matter. There's an enzyme or something that makes the downward facing end create roots and the upward facing end sprout leaves. HOWEVER, plants are highly evolved and can swap ends very quickly or even sprout both in the same spot if they have to.

I know it was a while back but I would love to see the progress of these now! I’m about to propagate about 100 nodes and I’m trying to see if this is the best method or if water propagation would be best
I just posted an update pic for you on my Instagram @solsticenursery. That is a tough call. There is no wrong answer. I love water propagation but if you intend to go in soil eventually then that might be the way to go to save a little time. You can also always start them in water to give them a head start then go to soil once the roots start to pop before they get too long and could be damaged during transplant. That can also be a good way to eliminate any nodes that fail before potting. I am really happy with this method and would do it again for sure! Thanks for watching!

I didn't know you could plant just stems without leaves
I have one stem with 2 leaves 🍃 it hasn’t grown it stopped about 2 months ago what can I do to help it
Oh! You answered my question that I left on your previous video! Thanks! Mine is so stringgly like that. Is there a way to keep the new growth from wrapping around each other and just hang straight? I only cut back my mother plant once and the new growth began to get curly and the older growth was nice and straight, but I bought it from a nursery and they grew it beautifully.
Sometimes you might need to train them by hand by either just untangling them or using something to hold them in place. Curling of leaves can occur from over or under watering. Some pests can cause curling as well.

That is a metal chop stick! I find it terribly useful and keep finding new uses for it! Always handy to have one nearby.

HELP! My 7yo took his school scissors to my Golden Pothos! He cut off all of the nodes, like ALL OF THEM!! He thought he was helping it “cause they were brown” 😢 he overheard me talking about the legging that’s happening on most of the longer vines. Is there any saving my Pothos or is it doomed???
Please no bashing he really was trying to help the plant, and the sitter was in the potty.
