You can record games, browser window, any window-based app. This Screen Recorder is technically a part of the XBox app family and was created for gaming, but it works well for other window-based screen recordings.
I use it to record my tutorials for customers.
You do not have to download or pay for any other software when using Windows 10 screen recorder (XBox Game Bar).
I will also show you how to enable your mic if you need to record sound (best to get yourself an external Clip on Mic for better sound)

The Built in Windows screen recorder is limited in only being able to record one screen at a time, you cannot switch screens or use a whiteboard type marking “pen”.
If all you want to do it record a procedure and show someone what to do in an application, then this is a great alternative to a paid program.

How can I move or make disappear the little game bar that shows recording in progress?
It is in my upper right corner blocking my rear view mirror in iRacing.

I looked everywhere and tried everything...cntrl+left mouse, alt+right mouse...everything.
Yes it is in an odd position too, if I ran iRacing in full screen it would not be a factor, but I run in windowed mode for peripherals.

I posted this query on several videos and someone just got back with the solution.
Start the recording in my case Alt+R
Then windows key + G.
That triggers the border for the record button window over lay.
Grab top with mouse and move!
Windows key + G to get out.

When I was recording at it showed the little thing for how long it records for, when I had stoped recording and went to my video it was not their so if you doing gaming I guess are what ever you doing too record this might help I don’t really know if it helped you by any chance but that’s how it is for my computer

is there a way to change how long the instant replay feature records? it says record 30 seconds, but i forget to hit that after doing something i want recorded so it gets cutoff. so is there a way to make that a minute or a minute and a half?

Probably the nicest audio and video recorder I’ve found, but is there any way for it to be used on nongames like Microsoft Edge and internet stuff? The Audio page seems to recognize other apps but record buttons are grey-ed out

Can someone please help me? I’m struggling because on my Xbox gamebar, The dot or circle is not working. It says something like “recording won’t work. Try again later” I tried messing with the settings a little when I saw this but nothing worked.
There is one big problem.
When I record while playing a game, the game frame is smaller and in up left corridor. I try to make bigger size by editing on video editing apps but the quality is awful!

Hello...after I record a snippet of a TV show, I get audio but no video (black screen) when I play it back. Do you know what might be causing that?
Try it with a normal program. If it shows video then it may be security/copyright settings stopping you recording the TV show.
Hi um when I finish recording my game the videos has the screen on the top left corner its like 1/4 of the screen how can I make it to a full record?

Try playing with your "Text, apps and other items" percentage and/or the resolution.
If that does not work try reinstalling the game bar app.

Hi you will need to use another software, this one will only record one active window and once you change windows it will stop.
you're correct i watched the video my record button has been greyed out formonths on the game bar. pulled it up again while listening to your british lilt and the button was still greyed out >anger viscerall through my veins . however i kept listening to you and win+alt+R did work albeit i had to finagle the sound settigs and change permissions for audios using a different tutorial but your hotkeys knowledge did the trick. Hi, I actually had this error with one of my computers.
I upgraded/reinstalled my graphic drivers and it did not pop up again.
I know you have the latest windows version now but try updating the graphic cards drivers. as well. 😊

There are many ways to increase the quality of audio recordings. Some techniques involve real-world changes like microphone placement, turning off sources of background noise, or using wind screens. Also make sure you do not have more than one open Microphone as this would cause a major increase in background noise. You will need to experiment with your environment, settings and microphones.

Hi, The multi window/instance game/screen recording ability you are referring to is not yet available on the Windows Game DVR Game Bar.
I also have this issue. try using www.loom.com they have a great free version and it works really well.

If you save the videos on the cloud and access it via your mobile yes but not via the game bar.
When I record a game, go to a browser and then whhen I look at the footage, the browser part does not show
Hi, Yeah unfortunately the Xbox game bar does not record any pop ups or menus that show show out of the program you are recording. There is no fix.
Hello, I always have a problem with my microphone when using the game bar. My microphone sounds great on other screen recorders but on the game bar, the microphone sounds like a potato. Maybe it has something to do with a new update?

so I want to record my whole dekstop. (not just a window) and as you said the recording will stop as soon as i close a window. So basically capture my entire screen, so that the recording doesn't stop when I switch from like google and word. How do I do this Please assist me if u have the solution.

So when I do my recordings with my external Mic I need to mute my laptop/PC internal Mic otherwise there is interference. Are you doing this?
Otherwise hit your windows key and search for "Sound"
Click on the sound application and you can modify your levels here.
You may need a better Mic, the one I use is this one: bit.ly/3_Lapel_mic

If your PC can’t record game clips, you’ll get the following message when you try:
Sorry, this PC doesn't meet the hardware requirements for recording clips.
Try the following steps to resolve this:
- Make sure your PC had done all the windows updates.
- Exit your game or programme that you’re trying to capture.
Press the Start button , and then enter device manager in the Search box.
Select Device Manager, and then expand the category Display adapters.
Right-click on a video card that appears in the list, and then select Update driver. You may want to try this for each driver if your PC has more than one.
After your driver has updated, try capturing once more.
You can also refer to your video card’s manufacturer’s support website for more info on downloading the latest driver.
If updating your video card doesn’t resolve your issue, try installing one that supports the encoders we’ve listed above.

That usually means that you do not have a program active. The recording feature cannot be uses on a windows explorer window or on the desktop.
Before you activate it try opening up a program and make sure it is the program active at the time.

Try this:
Press Windows Key+G (this will open gamebar) > click on the small settings icon located on the top right of the gamebar window>scroll down to to bottom and select ALL instead of GAME ONLY option.

Hi @Abdullah Qumper with this program you cannot use another window while recording, it does stop.
You also cannot use any windows explorer windows or record the desktop.

Hi, Unfortunately the Xbox game bar cannot record any windows file explorer windows or the desktop. It only records programs you have open. Notice in my video before I activate the recording I always have a program active?

If nothing happens when you press the Windows key + G, check your Xbox Game Bar settings. Open the Start menu, and select Settings > Gaming > Xbox Game Bar and make sure Enable Xbox Game Bar for things like recording game clips, chatting with friends, and receiving game invite is set to *On* .
If Xbox Game Bar doesn’t appear for a full-screen game, try keyboard shortcuts: Press the Windows key + Alt + R to start recording a clip, then press it again to stop. You’ll see the screen flash when the recording starts and ends.

This is not possible using the Xbox game bar. You will need to use a different program. I will release a video on another recorder soon.

All you can do is give it a try. I have recorded a Zoom meeting but it was very touchy.
If it is recording, I noticed if I clicked on anything outside of the window it would stop the recording.
Make sure you do a test and get familiar with it before you try to record the real course and lose it.

It may be because you do not have a program selected before you try to record. You cannot record the desktop or windows file explorer.
See in my video I always have a program active before I try to record. Hope this helps.

Hardware requirements for capturing on Windows 10
All Windows 10 PCs should be able to capture screenshots in games, no matter what video card you have. To capture game clips, however, your PC’s video card must support one of these encoders:
Intel Quick Sync H.264
NVidia NVENC
AMD VCE
To check your video card, go to the search box on the taskbar and search for “device manager.” In Device Manager, expand Display adapters .
Video cards that support NVidia NVENC include:
Most GeForce 600 series or later
Most Quadro K series or later

If your PC can’t record game clips, you’ll get a message like this when you try to make one: Sorry, this PC doesn't meet the hardware requirements for recording clips.
In that case, do one of the following:
Get the latest driver for your current video card (if your PC has more than one video card, make sure the drivers are up to date for both)
Install one of the video cards listed here
If your PC has multiple video cards and only one supports capturing game clips, make sure you’re using the monitor connected to that card when you record your game.
If you have a supported video card whose driver is up to date and you still can’t record games, open the Windows 10 Feedback Hub app and add feedback so they can investigate.

Try this:
- If nothing happens when you press the Windows key + G, check your Xbox Game Bar settings. Open the Start menu, and select Settings > Gaming and make sure Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast using Xbox Game Bar is On.
- If Xbox Game Bar doesn’t appear for a full-screen game, try keyboard shortcuts: Press the Windows key + Alt + R to start recording a clip, then press it again to stop. You’ll see the screen flash when the recording starts and ends.
It only records the active tab that I'm using , in background other tab opens it quickly closes the recorder but I want to record all tabs, How...?

Check your Game Bar settings. Press the Start button , then choose Settings. Go to Gaming > Xbox Game bar, then turn on Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast using Game bar.
When playing a game, press the Windows logo key + G to open Game Bar. Select the Enable gaming features for this app to record gameplay when trying to use gaming features such as broadcasting or capturing.
Your game may be running in full-screen mode.
Try choosing a different display option for your game, such as borderless windows.
The game might be blocking customised keyboard shortcuts.

Hi, you can post the videos off your computer as well.
If you really need to transfer it to your mobile I just plug in my android phone and transfer them. If you have an Apple then I would transfer the video file to my google drive or one drive in the cloud and get the app on the phone and download it that way or you could email it to yourself if it is not to big.
