Wasn’t piano man written based on observations of the lives of the patrons at the bar or Tavern that he played in when he was starting off in Los Angeles over on Wilshire Boulevard in the Wilshire center district? Davy Navy. It’s just great lyrical rhyming. Why does a semi fictional song now have to be suddenly subtly politically charged. Am I now supposed to listen to piano man and think of it in a different way? Art is always open for interpretation but it’s just a song about peoples lives. This new “theory” also potentially nudge that being in the Navy is not so manly and isn’t that a form of perpetuating reinforcing an old homophobic stereotype? 🤔😐🤦
Re: the Navy, remember Piano Man was written in the early 1970s. Vietnam was barely finished, MIAs and POWs and refugees still a huge issue. Choosing a long career in the military would not have been a popular idea in the early 70s. Hope that helps.
