Have had mine since high school (am 25 now) just cleaned and oiled her up the other day and runs just as smooth as day 1. Definitely worth it and recommend for anyone looking for a great value spinning reel setup, I got the presidential combo and it has served me well for a long time, just recently had to replace the rod tip but thats it. I also have the older model.
I've had one of these for well over 10 years. It it as far as I know a freshwater reel which I have used exclusively in salt water. It casts a mile on my light setup used to catch mostly whiting and pompano, but plenty of redfish & black drum too. Fish were no match for this reel matched with an ugly stick GX2. I pulled in a 44 inch redfish on that combo. Just today 6/1/2020, I oiled it for the first time. It's not quite as smooth as it once was, but it's still pretty damn smooth. I do usually rinse my gear down with fresh water. This has been a fantastic, durable, smooth fishing reel, that for the money, you just can't beat.
I liked your video because you are just plain honest on what you say. I don’t have one of these reels but hope to get one soon. Thanks for making the video Bill
My brother gave me and our dad Presidents for Christmas probably 15 years ago. They are awesome! I'd say my spinners are the "older models, model 6735." Wahi' Valleys
I bought a pflueger president a week ago and the price tag was $77 at Walmart, I don't consider this flueger model a budget reel. However, what I do like about the president is that it feels well put together, setting the drag is smooth, when you begin your retrieve the bail flips over effortlessly. Im using 14lb braided line with a 50lb test equivalency. I put it on an ugly stick lite pro medium 6' rod and the combination works well. I'm hoping this combination lands me a lot of northern Pike
How did it cost $77 at Walmart? They sell all of them for $60 except for the size 20 which is $50. Even an overpriced place like Bass Pro Shops sells the President for $69.99. Sounds like you got ripped off somehow.
@@NorthCountryOutlaw Then I think those people in Michigan should buy it online. It's free shipping on Walmart for $35+ orders. They don't change online prices for Michigan, right?
I just added one to my gear today. I paired it with a Lew's 7'medium fast rod. I'm going to spool some 10 flouro. Most of mine are baitcasters but I have 3 or 4 spinning combos that I love for jerkbaits and swimbaits. Can't wait to get it on the water.
I agree with everything you say about spinning reels I don't need that high gear ratio I'd rather have the slower one and like you said it looks more natural and entices the fish to bite if I want to crank bait on top and splash it make it move a little faster than my hand is a working 👍 I just bought the pflueger president 40 depending on how much use I put it through it'll be my last real I'm getting older and I like pflueger like you said the price point
I love my Pflueger President spinning reel. I have the 6940x model from a couple years ago and my dust cap also just broke off ( if you look closely the threaded part remained in the crank hole). Looks like the threaded portion is just glued to the cap portion. I was able to unscrew the threaded portion using a micro screwdriver and am waiting to hear back from Pflueger on a replacement dust cap. As for the 5.2:1 gear ratio this equates to 31.9 inches per turn on my spinning reel which is faster than the Pflueger President XL baitcasting reel with a gear ratio of 7.3:1 which has 31 inches per turn. This is because the diameter of the spools on a spinning reel are much larger than those found on a low profile baitcasting reel thus giving equivalent retrieve rates using a lower gear ratio.
I purchased mine 13 years ago going in blind an old codger at the shop paired this with my st croix premier 6'6" med-light 3-piece. I think it was $40 but of course the rod was $200. Now those line of st croixs go for 170 but 2-piece, but what I like about this rod is that it covers from 1/8 to 1/2 ounce lures or 4-10 lbs line which is a large range in weight do-it-all rod. I'm just now changing the tip. I mainly trout fish, and of course people (online) say to use ultra-light for trout but I'm still able to do just well with this heavier setup. I'll fish 3/8 ounce spoons the most, then spinners, then bait or jigs. The old man at that shop locally picked the perfect setup for me I was asking for packability (even though 2-piece is more sensitive) and The best I could buy though being somewhat novice. Wisdom then is still making me rich now for fishing. He knew his shit.
I paid $140 (Canadian) for a Pflueger President 30 I live in northern Canada, though. Low end products for high end prices. Love the President, so far.
I’ve used a bunch of reels and this one was the first one I got when I was five (im 14) and I’ve had some expensive ones I’ve saved up for big time that broke but all I gotta do is oil the president up and shes good as new, I still use it on a Walmart Hank parker rod lol 😂
My wife has the President XT and I have the Supreme XT , both juat amazing reels. We have them paired with Fenwick HMG 7ft rods. We've even pulled in some good size Channel Cats, Bass , a little over the limits for this set up, but it works flawlessly. My wife has the 30 size and mine is the 40 . My Supreme and my wife's are both Saltwater and fresh water.
Great review! I just bought a President size 30, and am looking forward to using it for the first time next weekend for some steelhead fishing! I took issue with the cap on the opposite side of the crank as well. What I don't like is how on other reels, you actually use that cap as tension on the crank, but on the President, it's simply a dust cap. I worry that I'll overtighten, and end up stripping the threads on the shaft . Other than that, I saw a mention to spray some silicone on the cap. Just wondering what the benefit is......Thanks in advance!
After Shimano's $50 ish and less reels took a dive in quality about 10 years back, I started buying Pflueger Presidents. Have gone through several of them over the years. They're good quality reels that stand up to heavy use and strong fighting fish. Here's where I disagree with the review. Don't get them wet. Most of my fishing is wading creeks and fishing in all weather. I'm very careful with my gear and try not to dunk my reels but it happens. Fishing in the pouring rain happens too. Pflueger Presidents are not sealed well at all and one dunk will kill them. You can try to open them up, dry them out, and regrease them, but it's better to throw them in a box and use it for a parts donor.
Pflueger is for the occasional, long weekend fishing type of reel. Being Out every weekend, switching from spincast to fly rod at the shore and after constant use, the pflueger bale shit the bed on me in less than a year. My cheap Shakespear reel lasted 3 years of constant use before it gave out.
depends on what size and what you are fishing for. He is using a 2000, so probably best line size is about 8-10lb braid, considering the drag is maxed out at around 12lbs, where you want the line to break before the reel.
Random question. Have you ever replaced a part on your President? I recently acquired a President (PRESSP20) without a reel handle. Not having any luck finding parts online… thanks!
I’m currently having an issue with my bail arm. Called pflueger which redirects you through pure fishing and she told me they don’t sell my 6930 anymore which is funny because i see them for sale in stores. I have an xt and they’re the exact same part just different color so i ordered replacements for the xt for my 6930
The newer model has a plastic bail guide which broke very easily and the repair part is back-ordered indefinitely. It is out of warranty. I did not use it much and it cannot be fixed without that part. I will not buy another Pflueger.

13 years here
@@blockaderunner wow! definetly a very good reel

I have been fishing with President spin and baitcast for 20+ years with no issues. They are not the best, but they are still quality.
Just grabbed mine.... my first phflueger. So far its phenomenal.....super super smooth.
That it is!

not if you want to switch reeling hands

Apply a thin layer of silicone on those caps buddy.

What size braid do you put on that? I know its says 10 lbs max.
15-20. Works just fine. 20lb braid is generally around .009 diameter which is close to the diameter of 8lb mono.
New ones just as good if not better. 😂
