Yes been fishing for 55 years and I still go to this set up. I also fish ultra light with a smaller rod and reel with 2 to 4 lb. test. Great for ponds, creeks, and if you trout fish it's the way to go. Keep it really really simple and use what works.
I think you should also make a second part to this video where you show people how to set up this hole thing, the rod, reel, line, hooks, bait and all that some may find it very useful
Just got a 8ft ultra lite. Best rod I've ever had. I like the length for the castability because I fish from the bank. The thill wobble bobbers are crazy good for long casting. I highly recommend it !
The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel ruclips.net/user/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.
Hey brother, thanks for the straightforward advice. I have had enough ‘philosophy of fishing’ videos that can’t answer the simple question “what is the best versatile, all-round combo to buy as your first set-up?” without going into reams of context about species, bait and conditions. If I knew specifically what species, bait and conditions I would be fishing I would probably be looking for something other than the most versatile basic set-up I could find. Anyway, thanks for the straight talk including the phrase, “this is what I grew up on.” That always makes me feel better for some reason! Cheers!
I love this video. I love all the comments. Its actually up to the individual. You ask a hundred anglers, youll get a hundred answers. Happy tight lines.
My fav setup for everything literally is just a 2000 spinning reel with a 5’6” light rod. For line depends, if it’s trout or steelhead, 4 or 6lb mono/fluoro. If it’s anything else I use 10 lb braid (powerpro)
You absolutely can land giant fish on a setup like that. It’s all about drag . Me and my friends have landed piles of 25-30 lb flatheads on 7ft medium action rods with 8-10lb mono.
@18Dreaming let's goo thank you for responding, wow I am not having very good luck yet, I don't have a very good spot yet and I keep having this problem of my line coming off the spool of my reel and eventually spiraling into a unfixable birds nest
This is similar to what i have. I got this type of setup for almost all types of freshwater fish setups. I go for 7ft-8 fishing pole and 2500-3000 reel. Super simple using 6-10lb line and its great simple setup
Great video. I am getting back into camping on a motorbike and have space for just one travel rod which needs to be under 1m long and do anything. I ended up with the 3 piece 7' 3-6 kg medium Abu Garcia and a Shimano Sienna C3000 running an 8kg line. Great general purpose setup.
For bass fishing (and fishing in general) fron the bank a 6ft to 6 1/2 ft Medium 2 piece rod with a spinning reel with at least 3 bearings spooled with extra tough 10lb mono is pretty much universal. I can get between trees fairly easily with the rod length the two piece really helps in transit if u have a car medium rod gives that extra bounce for long cast but still enough backbone for long hook sets and the medium spinning reel with 3 bearing wont wear you out to much and worka most lures well. The 10lb mono can be fished with any lure it's perfect for topwater ( I've pulled 7+ lb. Largemouth through sense hydrilla with this setup you dont need 1000lb braid ) it gets crankbaits down decent from the bank and worms and jigs as well. I would just get extra tough line since your going to put it through the ringer fishing like this.
Just bought a bg1500 and a bg2500, shopping for rods now. Have a great perception angler kayak that haven't tried fishing from yet, but getting it all set up with crate fishing gear.
6'8 - 7'2 Medium fast or extra fast spinning rod 6'10 - 7'6 Medium heavy fast action casting rod. Listen just bite the bullet and buy both in the beginning. I say this because a 7ft spinning rod will cover a lot of things, but at some point you are going to want to fish heavier, more target lures. Buying both of these rods in the beginning means that you will fish the spinning rod, and have the casting rod to practice with and get over the learning curve so that you already have it when the your fishing calls for it, and it will call for it sooner than you think. Sure if your budget can only do one. The spinning rod it is, but if you can manage it just do yourself a favor and buy both the medium spinning and medium heavy casting. Those 2 setups alone will cover more lures and types of fishing than all the other more technique specific rods combined.
I am so glad you show respect to this guy, he really deserves all of it! If you have any fishing questions I would gladly answer all of them and I can guarantee some of them are already answered in some of my videos. Never stop fishing my man!
*Very happy with it of this telescopic fishing pole with case. We travel in a RV so space is limited. Assembly was a snap following the included instructions. Within 1 hour I had a fully functioning fishing pole and even caught a 21” Snook as my first fish. I have since caught many other sizes and varieties without any issues whatsoever.*
5 years later, I bought a fishing rod, i never saw this video, but luckily my ROD is in perfect spec to what you're showing today, 6ft5in - Medium - Light weight
6’6” ugly stick, 2500 series spinning, 8 lb high vis mono. I catch everything from 2 inch bluegills to large cats . I’ve caught 8lb carp on a 5 foot pole with a Zebco 33 😂 This guys right !
Just inherited some gear and this rod was in the collection. Me being new to fishing, but also just me being an idiot, I thought it was some special rod since it didn’t have a reel on it. Good to know a rod I have is good for just about everything. Thanks for the info man!
I caught with the first rode a big king salmon last year. I like everything about this rod except ceramic leads that breaks in short time after purchasing. Maybe it just a bad luck and coincidence but I fish with this rod a few times.😕
Was thinking ~6'9" M spinning rod. Love my Fenwicks but if I could only have one I'd pick something with larger guides that allow knots and bobber stops to pass through easily like a St. Croix Eyecon rod.
Ugly Stick 6'6 Medium Spinning Rod and a Mitchell 300 Spinning reel. Use 30 pd Suffix Green Moss Braided line. You can catch anything on this combo and line. Ask me how I know? Shawn.
Thanks for the info sir,I will buy 7 feet medium ugly stik elite tomorrow,10lbs main line and 14lbs leader line,I love fishing and I love my roosters too😍
Slammed my abu Garcia 6'6" rod in a door, older guy at cabela's(bass pro shops) handed me the $75 medium action 7" rod, only used it once so far and damn its nice, especially for the price. Said his buddy caught a master Catfish on that thing and still didn't break, giving it a shot
Ronco pocket fisherman said right on the commercial it was perfect for all types of fishing . I wound up with one and never used it . Therefore I don't have a single bad word to say about the thing . I don't even know where it's at . Haven't seen it in years .
Good vid. I'm new to fishing and I'm not from the US. I've noticed that most information on youtube is not very universal, it's mostly very niched into catching a specific type of fish in a certain way in some sort. What newbie will go around and say "I want to catch a X fish and I want a combination that's adapted to catching that kind of fish"? A newbie most likely will want to catch A FISH, not a specific type of fish, a newbie will most likely also not want to a very niched setup, more likely a good allround combo that can be used in most situations. Also, as I said I don't live in the US and no where near a "pond" that seems very usual in the US. I only have a coastline to fish at, so most of the stuff people show off here on youtube doesn't really apply to my situation. People recommending bait casters for complete beginners are funny people as the spinning reel is more user friendly.
New to fishing too and my first setup is a shimano Slx baitcaster with 6’10 med rod. Funny u say people recommend baitcasters. Most people told me to start with spinning reel.. but I just really like the look and feel of baitcasters so it’s just preference…
Nowadays having a spinning reel without braid is basically like fishing without line! That's why I use a baitcaster with straight fluorocarbon line. I have a spinning reel with monofilament as well but that is mainly for saltwater only. When it comes to freshwater, absolutely got use baitcasters. You just cannot be precise with the spinning reel. Bait management is a huge issue with me when it comes to spinning reels in freshwater fishing. Love your tips nevertheless ✌️
I'm liking this for everything but bigger fish like catfish and redfish where I'd be happy to use the same rod but I think 3000 is the minimum. I used to only use a rod like this with a 4000 for everything. I still use it for salt water, but when one of my reels fail I picked up a 2500 and it is great with braid for the lakes, rivers, and ponds and salt for most situations with fish under 10 pounds.
do you have a video for people who do have money to blow and are looking for a rod that can catch tuna but also small guys from a boat ? Or shore once in a while ? I guess its a hard question, im a beginner and would really like to have just one rod or you say that's impossible ? Thank you sir. Your videos are very clear !
Good info! I’m in this boat! I’m looking for summer for my trip up to Sweden. I’m going with the family, so it’s not a dedicated fishing trip. I just hope to get back into fishing. I’m an American in Germany and left my gear behind when I moved here. Germany sucks for fishing but next door in France is better.
Understanding a rod a lure weight? Snapped a rod tonight throwing a spinner bait and when I researched why it said that my lure was to heavy. It was a 1/4 oz with a 3.5 in paddle tail. The rod said it was good for 1/4oz. Long story short. We gotta do addition of we want to go fishing? Can you do a vid explaining this more please
I predominantly fish 6’ - 7 ‘ Medium Fast Action rods with Rear Drag Shimano Reels. 6-12 lb Mono and I can pretty much catch everything, you just have set the drag right and let the fish do the work. I do have light rods too for Trout.
When I really didn’t care about what kinds of rods I used, I took (and caught) red and mangrove snapper, cobia, trigger, sheep head, bull redfish, 6ft bull sharks, on a 6’6 med light ugly stik gx2 rod with a 2000 size reel. I beat the shit out of those reels and rods and I still own them. The savage days when I couldn’t afford any high dollar stuff and didn’t care to know any better🤣
I love my baitcaster, but spinning is the shizznit. Wherever you drop that lure, it falls straight down. With a baitcaster it will "pendulum" back towards you possibly missing a suspended fish.
the ugly stick u have used to have ceramic fisheyes to hold the line on the rod,, , i don't see this feature any more, it used to be the gold standard ,,, any recommendations or advice ????-love
Is 9 ft rod good for river ,dam ,lake and sea fishing ? Lure surf casting way! Please do mention ! Reply me! I tried this in sea fishing good result .your suggestion please.
This guy's not going to answer any questions like he said he would. He has since the video was posted. That should be obvious. The rod he has is a 7 foot medium action. It looks very similar to a Ugly GX2 I have . It's around $50 and plenty strong enough. Im not sure what reel he has. It's a 3000 size . There will be at least be a 3 on the reel. I would get a reel with at least 10 lbs of drag. You may do ok with a weaker one. Depending on how you use the drag. Use the type of line recommended. You can double it with braid. Lews has a couple of really good reels for around $45 now. LZR PRO 3000 and the Lews Smash 3000. Both have plenty of drag and bearings. They have everything that $100 reels have. You can definitely go a little cheaper. Kastking makes some very good equipment. Almost everything is made in China these days. No matter who owns the company.
A 7’6 st croci mojo inshore medium and a shimano stardom fl 3000 is my go to/all around even tho I’ve had it for two day and only caught 2 fish and a turtle
GoodDay sir, can I request what brand of rod and reel the first combo you show 😅😅 I want that same combo I hope you see this comment thanks a lot Watching from Dubai 🇦🇪
I caught a 2.4kg carp with a rod which has a limitation of 1kg. This rod will give you a better experience, but never say you cant catch something cause of your rod. This isnt gaming where the better you monitor and pc is, the more potential you have to become better at a game. Fishing is pure skill. If u can catch a carp with a kids rod, you got skill.
Yes been fishing for 55 years and I still go to this set up. I also fish ultra light with a smaller rod and reel with 2 to 4 lb. test. Great for ponds, creeks, and if you trout fish it's the way to go. Keep it really really simple and use what works.

catching fish on ultra light is so fun feels like a pig when its just a pounder

Finally a clear answer I just want a nice combo for Father’s Day. Thanks 🙏🏽

Thanks for the info on the rod and reel video for everyday use. You made it simple and nice to know you fish with what you talk about and had success
I love this video. I love all the comments. Its actually up to the individual. You ask a hundred anglers, youll get a hundred answers. Happy tight lines.
This is what I’m looking for, I’m want to start urban fishing just for fun. Thank you sir. Happy New Year to you.

My grandson and I saw your video. We appreciate your great input. Now, we know much more. Thanks.
This is how you make a tutorial no bullshit straight to the point

I was catching 15 lbs carp with a 10 dollar walmart pole with 6lbs line
A Black Widow Ready Rig? Because that's what happened to me also. The best $10 I ever spent.
I caught a 20 lb carp with a 2000 reel and 5’6 light rod along with 6 lb test.
👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
What did you use to catch a carp?
What material was the rod because I just broke a graphite rod
Nice
Eric Flips flies are really good for em
You absolutely can land giant fish on a setup like that. It’s all about drag . Me and my friends have landed piles of 25-30 lb flatheads on 7ft medium action rods with 8-10lb mono.

Always enjoy these vids just as much as the actual fishing!

medium lite is not the same as medium, still a good choice but its not the same.
6’6” ugly stick, 2500 series spinning, 8 lb high vis mono. I catch everything from 2 inch bluegills to large cats . I’ve caught 8lb carp on a 5 foot pole with a Zebco 33 😂 This guys right !

Another all around good combo is the Zebco 33 combo that is sold at some Wal-Mart stores.
Was thinking ~6'9" M spinning rod. Love my Fenwicks but if I could only have one I'd pick something with larger guides that allow knots and bobber stops to pass through easily like a St. Croix Eyecon rod.
Caught a 15 lb channel cat on my 6 ft rod 8lb test braid and a 3000 series reel... One of the best damn days I've had fishing in years
My favorite go-to is my old shakespeare 6'6" medium action rod with a Rapala 2500 and 10lb. Monofilament...
Ugly Stick 6'6 Medium Spinning Rod and a Mitchell 300 Spinning reel. Use 30 pd Suffix Green Moss Braided line. You can catch anything on this combo and line. Ask me how I know? Shawn.
I was crappie fishing and got a 20lb carp as well on a 6lb line medium flueger rod it was 👌 biggest fish I caught
I tend to go with an 11ft bass rod as it can also be used on the beach.
Penn Pursuit III 3000/7ft Med-Light combo $60 on Amazon.
is it good?
Awesome advice for all beginners. I would have preferred letting us know what type of reel/rod you showed.
Thanks for the info sir,I will buy 7 feet medium ugly stik elite tomorrow,10lbs main line and 14lbs leader line,I love fishing and I love my roosters too😍
is it good? also what reel

Iv had a 8.5 pound bass on 4 lb line on a 6 foot 0.5-1 gram rod and it was the most fun iv ever had fishing heavy gear takes away the fun
I'm liking this for everything but bigger fish like catfish and redfish where I'd be happy to use the same rod but I think 3000 is the minimum. I do all my fishing with a st Croix premiere medium rod with a 3000 Diana tatula. Perfect set up for everything that swims.
do you have a video for people who do have money to blow and are looking for a rod that can catch tuna but also small guys from a boat ? Or shore once in a while ? I guess its a hard question, im a beginner and would really like to have just one rod or you say that's impossible ?

Good info! I’m in this boat! I’m looking for summer for my trip up to Sweden. I’m going with the family, so it’s not a dedicated fishing trip. I just hope to get back into fishing. I’m an American in Germany and left my gear behind when I moved here. Germany sucks for fishing but next door in France is better.
whats the name of the rod? brand?
Thank you for the info dude! I’m about to buy my first rod and reel and this helps a lot with knowing what to look for
Whats good for both saltwater and freshwater? Should i have one for each?
Thank you so much, Getting my husband a whole set up. This helps so much!
More or less what I did. I built mine for inshore in and around the Carolinas but it's a 3000 reel... on a 7 foot pole... with 15lb braid lol.
I’m newer to fishing and I broke a rod that I shouldn’t even have bought cause it wasn’t really good but now I need one good for this whole summer
Understanding a rod a lure weight? Snapped a rod tonight throwing a spinner bait and when I researched why it said that my lure was to heavy. It was a 1/4 oz with a 3.5 in paddle tail. For fun I target catfish with a 6ft medium light rod with 10lb braid.
Can u please link all of the combos u talked about
i’ve been fishing my whole life but never knew any of this, thanks dawg 🤙🏼
what rod exact is he using pls link
Growing up all I know is fresh water fishing. My question is what do you look for in a rod and reel and fishing line for deep sea fishing. Thanks
I predominantly fish 6’ - 7 ‘ Medium Fast Action rods with Rear Drag Shimano Reels. 6-12 lb Mono and I can pretty much catch everything, you just have set the drag right and let the fish do the work. I do have light rods too for Trout.
I grew up fishing and i collect fishing poles and lures to I've been fishing ever since I was young
I’m new to fishing 🎣 this helps a lot Thanks for sharing
When I really didn’t care about what kinds of rods I used, I took (and caught) red and mangrove snapper, cobia, trigger, sheep head, bull redfish, 6ft bull sharks, on a 6’6 med light ugly stik gx2 rod with a 2000 size reel. I beat the shit out of those reels and rods and I still own them. The savage days when I couldn’t afford any high dollar stuff and didn’t care to know any better🤣
not even a single dislike .. respect!
The first set looks like an Ugly Stick combo is it? Couldnt see if it had a clear tip or not.
I appreciate you information and time!!.
Appreciate the video, people overthink this shit tho, fish don't care what gear u got
Is 9 ft rod good for river ,dam ,lake and sea fishing ? Lure surf casting way!
Please do mention !
Reply me! I tried this in sea fishing good result .your suggestion please.
What was the rod and reel you were showing in the first set up ?
What all purpose rod would you suggest for inshore salt water fishing like from the shore, jettys, bays etc.?
What brand rods are they? 🤔👍
Caught a 3.75 pound bass today new pb on a ultra lite with old brittle 4 pound line on a worm
I'm new to fishing and was wondering if you could tell me if a 7' medium fast spinning combo would be good to start for multiple species
Great video str8 to the point with no chaser. Thanks 👌🏾
Probably one of the most useful videos on U Tube. Maybe I'm biased because it confirms my own thoughts? 🤔😁👍👍
What’s the rod
I love this video is straight to point no bs , it perfect explained and not trying be something it not
Hello
I liked your rod combo.Pls help me get specifications to buy ...
Why do some confuse “ action and power” when they’re referring to power of the rod.
Can I use this setup for trout fishing?
What brand rod & reel did you show first??
Can we get a link for a good all around fishing rod
A 7’6 st croci mojo inshore medium and a shimano stardom fl 3000 is my go to/all around even tho I’ve had it for two day and only caught 2 fish and a turtle

Watching from Dubai 🇦🇪
my best combo is my okuma black classic but it's not a 3000 its a 4000 lol 30lb test as well lol
I caught a 2.4kg carp with a rod which has a limitation of 1kg. This rod will give you a better experience, but never say you cant catch something cause of your rod. This isnt gaming where the better you monitor and pc is, the more potential you have to become better at a game. Fishing is pure skill. If u can catch a carp with a kids rod, you got skill.
kinda wish you had an affiliate amazon link to a rod would love to support and get some gear at the same time
I wish I did to bro, Amazon won’t let me tho 😂 appreciate you watching tho my brotha 👊🏻
