    My first pflueger was the trion gx7, about 12 years ago. I've been through quite a few reels and always went back to my gx7. Today they had a sale at my local cabelas, $50 CDN for the 35 size president, 50% off. I can now retire my gx7 with confidence and hang it on my wall, i know the president will be a great replacement choice.

      That’s great!! Ha. I can see the reel hanging on a piece of driftwood on your wall! They are amazing reels and are easily more reliable then other brands at twice the cost. Thanks for writing and watching

      100% i can get other brands for next to nothing but would rather pay full price for Presidents and be sure they will last for years. Thanks for your comment!

    Great video! I completely agree with you about the president being a great reel and they're really smooth! I have the president 30 size and the pflueger monarch and the monarch is a great reel as well! Go luck and stay safe out there!!

    Great video and thanks for sharing. Starting my grandkids out and want to do it right. I learned a bunch. I do a fair amount of fly fishing but it is good to be in tune with your spin skills. Subscribed.

      Hello ! I’m fishing for bass / catfish / crappie/ shells crawler / red ear / Bluegill. And I will be using roosters tails 1/4 oz and sometimes 1/8 oz that’s all I will be using as my baits . And I’m doing nothing but casting only. I just need for you to answer my question which size spinning rod that you would recommend me to buy to go on that size 35 pflueger president spinning reel please 🙏

      @timothythomas3820 the reason I asked is, rods are made for different species and lure choices. I suggest you go to your local cabalas or bass pro shop and look at the info on the rod that matches you lure sizes. A 7 footer is a good choice. I show what to look for in this video. 5:53 how did you estimate how much backing to put on. I have 150M of braid 6lb I want to put on but and trying to find out how much mono backing to put on beforehand.

    • @JimHanleyfishing
      @JimHanleyfishing  Год назад

      Thanks for watching and writing. I don’t have a set amount so I just look at the spool as I’m filling it up with backing and guesstimate how far the braid will fill it up. It’s always easier to add too much filler and take it off then to add too little and have to add. I add about 200 to 250 feet of braid as it takes us very little space on the spool. The biggest mistake I see on spinning reels is they have either too much braid on the spool of too little. Too much will spill off and too little will make casting harder. Fill it to about 1/8 inch from the edge of the spool. Hope that helps.

    I just got myself a fleuger president and I noticed that I lay more line at the bottom than the top of the reel and I was wondering how to fix it or if it’s normal

    • @JimHanleyfishing
      @JimHanleyfishing  Год назад

      Thanks for watching. Is it the first time putting line on the reel? If so, it will even out with use. Make a few casts and it should look better

    What lb test is the braid your using

    • @JimHanleyfishing
      @JimHanleyfishing  Год назад

      I use 8lb diameter braid. I think the actual Lb test is 20. The actual Lb test is is usually 2 to 3x more then the diameter.

    Have avid non professional fisherman all become bankrupt ? I have been fishing Pflueger reels for decades, but as I got older and stated making more money I upgraded my equipment. I own 7 Pflueger reels but the are all Supreme Mg and Gt's. They only cost $170, hardly anything that will break the bank. So why fish with these entry level reels?

    • @JimHanleyfishing
      @JimHanleyfishing  Год назад

      Thanks for watching. That’s great question with a simple answer. When a $70 reel and about the same price for the rod goes overboard from a customer who lays the rod down or a fish pulls it out of their hand, it’s hurts but when it’s a 170 reel and 100 for the rod, that’s a killer. I’ve been guiding for 45 years and it’s happened more times then I care to remember! It’s about economics and some of my $70 presidents have over 800 days on them. That’s amazing longevity.

      Such a comment from someone who has been fishing for "decades " and doesn't even acknowledge , respect or appreciate your answer. Some younger people especially fisherman have more manners than that. At least I would think..........but then again he's the one boasting about $170 reels costing nothing. It's the same way with everything. As a knife maker there's even knife snobs out there . A lot of them don't want to sharpen or do maintenance either. I don't think they know how. 😂
