5.56 Aks have viewed by Ak guys as the Redgeaded step child of the Ak world. However, given current circumstances, 5.56 Aks are the future of Aks in America. So if they must exist, make them good and in large numbers.
Having run 5.45 AK's for the past 15 years, I recently switched over to a Robinson Arms XCR in 5.56 (mainly because I will not be able to afford to feed the 5.45 guns over the next 10 years, etc.). I'm glad to see some new 5.56 AK's. Like most AK guys, I've always been skeptical about their quality or consistency due to the lack of a normalized 'spec'. I'd gladly try a 5.56 AK, but wanted to get ahead of some AFT nonsense. I have my first actual PSA product en route right now. Living local to PSA I see a TON of them at the range. Admittedly the AK's have been...varied. Some seem great, but I've seen a few go down hard within the first magazine. That doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. My brother has a couple of PSA AR's which have been flawless, but I can say - I've seen enough PSAs perform poorly that I'm a little bit on the fence about trusting them initially. Wish that wasn't the case as I'm a big fan of American made firearms and I appreciate the business PSA is doing. Like you, I just wish they were a little more consistent.
Seems like for the most part the PSA AKs are alright although you're absolutely right there are lemons but that's one good thing about PSA --when you get a lemon they always take care of you and replace or repair the product. I only have one PSA AK and one PSA AR but I've really abused that AR and it works just perfectly. It's by no means my favorite AR or my best but it's a great beater. Keep in mind my AR is one of the very early Freedom upper and lowers (although I usually run a different upper on it now but there isn't anything wrong with the upper I got from PSA). The AK I have is a GF3 AKM and it has worked really well and it's actually a really good shooter. It's less over gassed than my WASR which is nice. I'll admit I'm not a HUGE AK guy, that WASR (which has Bulgarian furniture and an Ak74m style muzzle brake) is my "nicest" AK. I will admit that I found a small amount of rust on the external side of the barrel which I fixed with some oil and a brass brush. I oiled the gun inside and out and haven't seen any more rust. The PSA AK has never developed any rust as far as I can see. Hope your experience with PSA is a positive one and also as a side note --the XCR has always seemed really cool to me.
I have seen a ton of friends and my own psa aks go down. After seeing 4-5 bad ones out of 8ish I’d advise people to wait 6 months to a year after psa releases a new variant… seems like after a while they work out the kinks and then are good to go. But before that time I think they use the consumer as test subjects.

Great video! I’m wondering where KUSA is with their AK101/102 if I remember correctly based on comments they made multiple times they should already be out and available for purchase…
My 102 came non-functional out of the box. Non stop light strikes due to a short firing pin (measuring 3.34in, should be 3.38 at least). Sourcing a longer one currently
I'm having serious light primer strike issues with mine (30-40% light primer strikes). I'm doing more testing since I feel like it is a short firing pin (measured at 3.350 inches in total length when compared to standard Ak74 3.382 inches). Combined with a possible steep angle of impact of the hammer on the bolt, PSA offered to take in the rifle for warranty which is fantastic of them. To potentially save me the time and effort to ship the gun and wait weeks, I ordered some firing pins and will do some testing with them and some of my reshaped ALG hammers from my other guns.
Man to think just a few years back they dropped their Gen 1 PSAK47 and now they're making some legit badass American made AK's... I already have 4 of their AK's and there's no doubt I'll be picking this one up as well. Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
Damn, I didn't meet the 24 hour reply window but I'll try anyway. On one video of yours, I heard you say that you are not a fan of the recoil buffers that fit on the recoil spring at the rear trunnion. You seem to be one (if not) the most knowledgeable AK experts that I've watched. I've already ordered one for $15 and then saw your videos so I just had to ask. If I don't use it, the $15 surely won't break the bank. Thanks and keep rocking' those targets. Cheers.

Awesome, Rob. I still love my autographed hat from you. I love all my PSA stuff!
My 102 came non-functional out of the box. Non stop light strikes due to a short firing pin (measuring 3.34in, should be 3.38 at least). Sourcing a longer one currently
Psa for the win. Making all the great AKs
Just placed an order for an AKOU shirt and cap! Rock on guys! Love this channel!
Awesome! Thank you!
Stay strong Rob! Love your content!
What was the verdict
Had short pin on the gf5. Replaced with surplus. Some ammo wouldn't work. Please update
Thank you very much!!! Everyone go buy from store. Keep buying also. Let’s help the man out. All those 5k reviews! Go buy something!!!!!!!!!
Great review, you do a good job. The camera work is good to .
Would love an update on this rifle!!
Man to think just a few years back they dropped their Gen 1 PSAK47 and now they're making some legit badass American made AK's... I already have 4 of their AK's and there's no doubt I'll be picking this one up as well. Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
See you running that oss.....looks great man!
Here's to PSA! Keep making great products!
Rob, the bolts and carriers are from Toolcraft. A company PSA bought out.
So much for the "AK isn't good for more than 200 yards!" argument! Robski said, "Really?? Hold my beer.." 👍🏻👍🏻
The beauty of that weapon genuinely stopped by breath, absolutely gorgeous
I do not like NATO AK's but if you have to buy one, I would take the Beryl over this. STILL! Super cool rifle rob!!! Thanks for the review.
Awesome look at this offering from PSA! Might be the AK that converts this AR guy.
That paint job is awesome!
Glad to see an American company trying to perfect the AK game.
Yeap that is the absolute winner.
Cheers.
I put the same handguard on my AK. I Really like it.
Rob for president!
sounds like it is gassed softly, NICE I like that
