I love the classic wood setup on an AKM, but I could never find a 16" pull wood stock. I had to convert all my AKs to adjustable stocks. Also I have not been able to find a side rail mount that is height adjustable and not bulky, so it can ride right above the dust cover and not have the need for a cheek riser. I also have to get aftermarket safety levers, because I don't have E.T. fingers to work the original safety lever. The Russian milspec magazine paddle is not big enough to work it with thick gloves, unless you install an aftermarket "oversized" paddle. Other than that, I love all my AKs in every other caliber, but the Russian calibers!🙃
Fernando, mil spec mag release works perfectly fine, index your thumb in gloves to the trigger guard, follow the trigger guard and hit the mag release - alternatively, if you wearing really thick mittens, use other mag to hit the release lever with it. @safety - I'm not sure about ET fingers, lol, but use your first 3 fingers and drop that safety down. If it's hard to move, watch our old "ak safety lever 101" video. I talk about adjusting tension on the safety lever and etc.

If you live in a climate where it gets below freezing you need an AK. The oversized and seemingly crude controls are a big advantage in sub-zero temperatures especially if you're wearing gloves and heavy clothing. Also, at the point where lubricants start to freeze you're in trouble with an AR. As Rob said AK can run bone dry. AK should be your cold weather rig.
Garand Thumb's Ice test proved this. The AKs ran flawlessly frozen while many other platforms failed. Makes sense considering that they were designed in Russia.
Another point here is going in and out of sub freezing temps causes condensation to build up and then freeze on/in the rifle. You don't need to drop your rifle in a creek or pour water over the rifle to be dealing with ice.
Yes my 350 legend AR froze up on me when hunting deer. The lubricant is suspect it was well below freezing outside that morning and I lost my chance at a nice buck.

@@joaopedrobaggio4475 would say that, tho both have different design philosophy behind them. Seen a lot of AR worshipers who talk all day about "sub MOA" while most cant even shoot that precise. AK is easy to field and faster to train on compared to an AR system at the end of the day which perfectly works with soviet design philosophy of fielding shitloads of guns quickly to many shitty trained people and still have them perform decently. It's training, experience, and understanding how each weapon system is. I own ARs, FALs, and AKs, each has each problems when it deals with dust, dirt, and mud. Main thing I learned from my Dad when he was in the Korean War as an infantryman, always carry a shaving brush and a tooth brush in your pocket along with a small cloth rag. No matter what during combat your rifle will always be exposed to dirt and dust. Check and brush off shit off your weapon before you go into combat. During combat always pay attention to your weapon to make sure your weapon is operational. A good movie to watch is from the 1950s after the Korean War called Pork Chop Hill with Gregory Peck. He was a Company Commander during an attack. Watch the movie because if you pay attention to his character each time he stops during and assault or after being rained down with dirt. He always carries a G.I. weapons tooth brush on his left pocket and brushes his M1 Carbine bolt to keep dirt off from the exposed locking lugs to keep it working. The AK series has the same locking lugs as an M1 Garand and M1 Carbine except that is protected by a dust cover. The AK series can have the same malfunction if dirt gets into the locking lugs and trunnion. Never ignore your rifle during combat. In Iraq I carried the old school cleaning kit on my body armor and one nylon paint brush, rag, and oil. I brushed the dust off my M4 Carbine, kept my dust cover closed, and checked the chamber, bolt, and star chamber clean if I was not firing during long operations, stops, and halts. I made sure my soldiers did the same so everyone could use their weapons if needed when we make contact. All my machineguns and SAWs were checked every time to it became paranoid practice. No greater fear than your weapon not working in combat when you need it the most. My platoon made it with no casualties and their weapons worked during combat and malfunctions were only bad ammo and instant immediate action to resume firing. A few guys in my platoon after I retired became good NCOs and one Officer. No one ever forgot me because I was an asshole with weapons care. Yes AKs are good rifles but a rifleman must keep it clean like every good soldier if he wants to stay alive during combat like all weapons systems.

I just taught a class of teenagers in an Air Cadet Squadron in New Zealand (your equiv of Civil Air Patrol) about cleaning and a toothbrush was the No 1 item... and they just use Marlin XT .22 The cloth rag I mentioned if they use scopes privately..
AKs are incredibly ergonomic and pointable in my opinion. People don’t like the safety because they’re doing speed drills or competitions like their favorite RUclipsr.
I personally prefer the safety on an ak over an AR’s yes it is more ergonomic than an AK but where it lacks ergonomics it makes up for in leverage and in visuals and what I mean by this is that either an instructor or your range buddy know where your rifle is on safe and I think that is important
I don’t think that’s necessarily true. A lot of it depends on your experiences. I don’t find AKs very ergonomic. But, I grew up with Garands, Carbines, M1As, ARs, Mini-14s, 10/22s, etc. The sights, feel, and particularly the safety, all feel a bit “wrong” to me. I never liked the open sights on a Winchester lever action, and that’s what the AK sights remind me of. AKs are just different than what your average American grows up with. It doesn’t make it any better, or worse. Just different.
@@Seth9809 Charging an AR15 is the most awkward feeling to me. I can barely even do it when using a sling. Flip side is the bolt release but the handle doesn’t offer much surface area to clear malfunctions and such. I’d take the reciprocating side handle any day over the AR’s charging.
Very good point about the safety. People care way to much about keeping their rifle on safe nowadays. You don't need to safe the rifle in-between every damn shot, if you're going to be shooting then keep it off and just keep your finger off the trigger, it's really not that hard.
I’ve always felt this way and people tried to shame me into the hivemind about it. If you plan on shooting, keep the safety off. If you don’t, put the safety on.
If you’re transitioning from AR pattern rifles, the ergonomics of the AK (safety, mag changes, etc) can be a stretch AT FIRST. But, after you train with the AK a bit, it becomes as natural as breathing.
People always compare the two and it kinda frustrates me. I sometimes catch flack for being an “AK guy” but it really shouldn’t surprise anyone who really knows me as I’m an extremely practical person. If ur a tinkerer or ur indecisive go w an AR cause u can change just ab anything to make it how u like it but if u just want something caveman simple that works get an AK

It's more like you must do it, cause the simpliest setup is just a piece of crap with no ironsights, no sling etc. Just a barrel and a trigger 😉. Even the simpliest AK has it all. You can add some fancy stuff. Some rails, optics and other sh*t. But even without it, the rifle is just ready do rock'n'roll. What is a real advantage of AR is the simplicity of pimpin' it. AR is simply a Lego Rifle. You can take literaly any piece and replace it by other one. With AK It's not that easy. Well, It's easier today than, let's say, 10-15 years ago. But still It's harder to do 😉
The safety is to stop going straight to full auto and emptying the mag when in combat. Saving rounds, and then switching to full auto once your adrenaline has calmed down. Something like that anyway..read it from Lee child's novel 'One Shot'. Better than the film. And Jack Reacher should no way be played by a man that's just talk enough to not be called a dwarf, but isn't even average height..Jack reacher is 6'5 . Sure you can change the character of someone, but for authenticity he really needs to be played by a muscular , tall guy. Tom cruise is awesome actor, and top gun is great film, and he deffo fits a fighter pilot, even mission impossible spy/special agent (Ethan hawke, is it?), but not Jack reacher..good film, but didn't sit well with me after reading the book, but that could be why. Saying that am waiting for a black James Bond, as the books don't describe him as white, just suave, and British. How many more books are there, cos I think we've had about all of them. Can't be many more left.
@@HuyLe-vo4pg The WASR AK rifles used to all be cold hammer forged, not sure on the new one. But a cold hammer forged barrel can last up to 50,000 or so rounds mag dumping before it's shot out. A standard milled button rifled barrel will last around 15,000 to 20,000 rounds mag dumping before it's shot out and keyholing. There's a lot of other variables that change all that too including how hot you're getting the barrel, if you're letting it cool off, if you're using copper jacketed or bimetal steel jacket ammo, caliber being used, if you're using corrosive ammo and actually cleaning it correctly afterwards, etc.

@@HuyLe-vo4pg Those numbers really depend a lot on testing procedure and caliber, etc. Lucky gunner did a really extensive test on four AR15s using bimetal jacket and copper jacket ammo into the tens of thousands of rounds doing mag dumps and cool off periods. I think it's on RUclips on the lucky gunner website. Steel jackets make a big difference in barrel life especially if you're getting the barrel pretty hot. The bimetal steel jackets have more friction than copper or lead.
Only own an M70 in the AK category. Threw on a shark fin, Gen3 Dogleg, Holo sight, surefire light, and JMAC and she's wonderful. Thing is an absolute tank. With weight to match. Love the thing.
I've started my wife and son out on AKs. They both shoot them well. Between the soft recoil and simplicity of operation, they're much more comfortable with that platform than an AR. They, of course, have been educated on the AR as well but they gravitate to AKs. BTW, Rob: you're THE reason I put some $$$ down on the Mighty Vepr! Spendy years ago, 100% worth it still!
I love the process of putting parts kits together. Filing, sanding, drilling is way more fun than tightening a few screws. Really got into AKs a year or so ago and this channel was a big inspiration to that. Fantastic hobby. Bought #7, will be my first ak74, a few days ago. Can't wait to get it together =D
I got AKM, a version of AK47, bought from military surplus. Produced in mid 80s. Excellent satisfactory toy. Great weapon, easy, friendly, steel and wood, no scipes, special grips, piccantiny or sth. Just pure weapon. Best in my collection. And you know what , not russian one ....
I fell in love with the AK while serving in the marines in Iraq. When our M16 couldn’t handle the harsh environment, the old reliable AK was there for the taking and we never looked back. Sure an M16 may be more accurate in a surgically clean environment but I will take the AK any day over an M16. Since leaving the military I have acquired a Saiga, Wasr-10, and (unfortunately) an I.O. With the exception of the I.O. they are fantastic rifles.

My Grandfather fought the Soviet Army in WW2. He told me of the PPSH. He said it was made of just 17 parts. You could strip it down, throw it in the mud, reassemble it and it’ll fire a full magazine without any problem.
PPSH is horrible weapon but it is favourite weapon of my Grandfather who probably fight against yours :) He was allowed to take home his service weapons from WW2 probably because he was officer but yea you could give him any modern weapon he would always chose PPSH ....

AKs are my favorite platform. What's not to love? Every issue people complain about is either not being used to the manual of arms of an AK, or something that can be fixed with a quick upgrade.
One of my best friends does AK builds, just did a group of Type 1s and Type 2s. He gave me a 1970 Romanian MD-65, my AR is gathering dust. AKs are absolutely awesome. When I go to the range everyone wants to shoot it because it's absolutely beautiful, the sound of the way it charges and shoots are just cool and it's just totally badass. I can't really describe why I love it but from the authentic trench art on the furniture, the red birch is absolutely beautiful, the under folder makes it easy to haul in a backpack and it has great ergonomics. The AK has been my favorite rifle since I was young in the 90’s. I loved everything about it. Looks, ergonomics, design, everything. And one of the biggest reasons I love the ak platform is because I’m left handed. If you’re left handed, the AK just molds to you. I load, manipulate the safety handle and never have to take it off my shoulder. I don’t have anything against the AR, but I was just never drawn towards it. The AK is just better, more gangster, more interesting, the history is simply more interesting, the design of the AK has never changed since it’s introduction bc it’s never had to unlike the M16/M4, which was not very reliable in the Vietnam era, the 7.62 round is king over the 223/556, everything is better with the AK. More importantly, it’s just more fun to shoot than the AR. AR boys can argue all day, but it will never dispute the facts. And by the way, screw RUclips

@@Septicshites The AR-10 can be chambered in 243, 308, and 6.5CM. The SKS is only 7.62x39. All three above have better ballistics and range over the x39 hence why he said if he wanted to reach out and touch something.
The AR got a bad rep from the mistakes of the Army back in Vietnam, but by today's standards, it holds it's own against the AK platform, hence why the military has had it now for over 60 years. I have both and honestly, it's a real hard decision which one would be my one and only, there's an equal amount of pro's and con's to both imo.
I've been on the frontline for eight and half months with constant using of AK47, from the end of spring up to mid winter. I think I clean it maybe four or five times and only the barrel of the rifle had very few minor damages. It's a hell of a rifle.
I love both AR and AK platforms but im such a huge fan of the simplicity of the AK. When i was deployed in Finland we did some training on the finish service rife the RK63 and after a quick crash course on how to operate and use the AK platform I was able to do a disassembly and reassembly within 2-3 minutes blindfolded and the guys in my unit were doing it within less than 1 minute to almost 2 minutes as well. I could never do that on the M4.
I got a Ruger AR-556 (their basic AR-15 model) recently, and I enjoy using it. But I do know I definitely want an AK model from seeing channels like yours because they look like such fun, effective rifles. I'm thinking of getting a Zastava myself.
I’ve had a lot of them my favorite is the light ones regular akm zastava is good but it’s heavy and furniture doesn’t swap do like the .223 ar mag one. I have polish and Romanian aimr my favorite was a maddi Egyptian cuz Maby it had a thin receiver but it was light. Either way go for a import they always go up. Regular Akm
I bought my AK-74 (5.45×39) many years ago as it's less recoil and a small round like like the AR-15. Back then every time I went to the gun show I bought a couple1080 round spam cams of ammo when it was cheap. Then I discovered your Channel and your AKOU store, and purchased more magazines. @@idkwhattohaveasausername5828 did you see his video where he showed how the cap of those tubular cleaning kits that are issued inside of the trapdoor buttstock, having the purpose of the cap being prop/stand for the sight tower, and then a hammer (or rock) can be used in the field on the other side to hit the windage drum and the front sight, as it moves into the hollow part of the cap! Blew my mind! I always wondered how soldiers abroad adjusted windage without press tool as I know they only issues elevation tools (also a notch in SOMETHING the cleaning kit tube, aswell as a notch for stubborn gas tube levers), but I just assumed their stuff wasn't as canted like exported stuff, especially in the past couple decades. 80s era "100% Factory Made" stuff will show more consistency when made to true milspec, then when the civi market demand got big here, stuff was thrown together as fast as possible (or mil reject builds) with the current rule of thumb being "If you can zero it, it's ok" They use a Jig showing the range that the Front Sight Block and Gas Block have to remain within, which have a LOT of room to be wonky..... One built very good is a damn good one tho!

Krebs & Polish safeties are the biggest improvement you can make to an AK. If you dont like the stock one, those are great solutions...My personal favorite is the Krebs enhanced safety V6 with NO bolt hold open.
I like the safety on the AK, it’s just placed a little inconvenient if that makes sense. Especially for those of us who are lefties. I think for most people it works fine but for those who have smaller hands or shorter fingers might have trouble pushing it down. I also like what you pointed out about how the safety blocks the rifle from even cycling or charging, which is great. The AK is a great rifle and the ergonomics are as well otherwise though. Simple, straightforward and easy to operate.
slavic folks have smaller hands, see most AK pistol grips. you can still keep your hand on the grip while hitting the safety lever. slide your hand forward up to the first knuckle on your thumb, and point your fingers out like youre going to karate chop. use your middle and ring fingers to catch the safety and rock your hand downward with your thumb as the pivot point.

Thank you for mentioning ergonomics.. I have found that because the AK's stock has a normal drop to where you shoulder it, the gun is far quicker to shoulder and aim then the AR platform which as virtually no drop to it's stock. All I know is that I can shoot an AR faster and more accurately then I can an American AR15.
Great video! compared to the AR, you gotta love the oversized (in comparison) safety level. The breakdown, cleaning and reassembly is much easier too. I wish I had the hours of my life back that I spent cleaning the damn star chamber and bolt carrier group.
You're not kidding, cleaning the AR series rifle is a major major gripe and getting it spotlessly clean for inspection (white glove test basically) is nightmarish.
My first tour in Iraq jan 2003-nov 2003 we never once put our weapons on safe. Zero nds. You just have to be aware of what your doing and be competent! To be honest i didnt put it on safe on any other tours either! USMC 2000-2011

My reason, is the caliber. In the thick vegetation of the Ozarks (not terribly far from Rob’s environment) the 7.62x39 is better at staying on course. I also have a little more confidence in it if used against black bears or Mountain lions. In personal defense, and open field, scenarios I still prefer the 5.56 … and an AR. But, an AK definitely has a niche it fills very well.
That whole 'brush gun caliper' thing just isn't true. A branch will deflect a 7.62 as much as it will a 5.56 or a .45-70. The 7.62x39mm is certainly a better choice for bear as even though it's would cavity isn't as devastating as 5.56/5.45 it has much greater penetration to get possible through-and-throughs on bears but at least touch their vitals with no issues.
Yes accessories, You can have as many different scopes with side mount pickneys rail with scope mounted on. Think it is like picking a club out of a golf bag. a 2-9 for deer, a 4-24 for long distant, and a video scope for the night vision pig hunting. All will hold their zero just slide on the side. Just know the height above barrel for ballistic app and scope name and type of radical. For no scope get the AK targets there is a video fun to do. Learn to shoot off hand and not on a bench that is the skill to have!
I've had a Norinco Mak 90 since 1999 and I still love it, I would never get rid of it. But now I have custom ARs so I plan to put mine back to the old school configuration with the wood. For your modernized version you should look into 6.5 Grendel. It's a better round and based on the original AK round. You would need to get the stuff to reload for it because it's not available enough. I think the Grendel would be the perfect modern AK round.
The 6.5 Grendel would be the right choice in case of an AK platform upgrade, as the 6.8 SPC would be for the AR one. Classic ammunition is now becoming obsolete, for various reasons: the 7.62 is too big and powerful, with excessive weight and recoil, an insufficient range and not very good ballistics; the 5.45 is too weak, with the bulletproof vests that are spreading more and more it will become almost useless to shoot at the enemy. The way forward is ammunition from 6.5 to 7 mm, the right compromise between performance, weight and manageability.
I bought the last WASR 10 available at my local dealer, swapped the cheap furniture for good plum gear, and LOVE how well it shoots. Better ergonomics than standard AR's for me, (slightly) lighter than my AR, and the ammo's still cheaper than 5.56 rounds. Besides all this, it's exotic compared to everything else I see, it gets looks and comments at the range, most of them are positive. Thanks for your expertise and willingness to teach us!

@@banthycan What the hell lol? WASR-10 are one of the few good imported AK's from Romania. If you see a WASR-10 for that, snatch it NOW, that's a good deal in this market.

I have a friend of mine who is one such person that is lucky enough to have a full auto AKM and I got to shoot it quite a bit. my experiences with it is that it is very pleasant to shoot and with proper fire discipline it is very effective even at longer Range.
i've got a norinco ak ,got it in the early 90's as a thumb hole stock . that didn't last long also cut the tack weld for the flash hider . i love my ak and would never part with it . i used it for deer hunting just popped a 5 round mag in and i was in business. i got 1 deer at 165 yards . perfect deer rifle .
Maybe im just lucky here but i have no idea what people are talking about with the ammo prices. Yea they spikes back in the big covid scares but they've already settled back down for the most part where i live around and both 7.62×39 and 5.45 is still cheaper than any 5.56 round by easily a couple dollars at minimum. @David Browning about 8-10 dollars a box of 20 for the cheap steel stuff like tula or wolf which is what i normally run. A box of standard 55 grain brass case 5.56 cost around 12-15 dollars depending on manufacturer. Most of the 5.45 ammo iv seen was around the same prices as the 5.56. This was just a few days ago since i last looked but i have 9.99 priced 7.62 tula ammo from several months ago
4.99 was the standard price for 20rds of 762 Tula. I paid 6.99 to 7.49 for a 20rd box of federal xm193 brass. Pre 2020 election. After that everything went up and then went up again during the pandemic.
7.62 steel case ammo is starting to rise in price over 5.56 and 223 brass cased ammo. If your going to buy an ak to shoot a lot, get one in 5.56 or a galil at this point. The price gap will only increase as the russian steel dries up.
And as the manual that came with my brand new PSA AKM-47 GF3 says: 1- Treat every firearm as if it were loaded. 2- Always keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction. 3- Do not load the weapon until ready to to use. 4- Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot. Rob's points are good points. Of course have to get the best quality AKM you can.

I just picked up my Zpap M70 a few days ago. I just 0ed her today. And omg I'm totally AK converted. Granted it was easy for me to jump. Because my previous weapon was an SKS. Oh and the charging handle I love more on the AK because I'm a lefty.

Probably the best safety-selector for the Kalashnikov design is on the Israeli Galil. It is a (left side) thumb operated control with linkage contained in the receiver that is quite easy to manipulate. Some of the various AK designs have a notch cut into the safety that serves as a hold-open for the charging handle. This can be cut into a safety that was not manufactured that way. The only AK malfunction I ever saw in Vietnam (1966, 1967, 1968 and again in 1971; Rifle Company, Batallion recon, Brigade LRRP platoon) was when an AK mag had the steel follower rust into place while loaded. There was no mystery as to why the owner was killed; after whacking the magazine on a coconut palm tree the ammunition was simply shaken out of it. In 1987 I suggested to the importer of the Polytech AKs that they really needed a plated follower and he reported it back up the line; that did the trick. The Russian-European made bakelite plastic magazines have no problems I ever heard of. By the way, what you "NEED" is 7.62x39 AMMO..
I wish I could own a few of them but, I live in Canuckistan [Canada] and along with pretty much all semi-auto rifles, they're "banned". We can however, own the Chinese Type-81 rifles. I have the heavy barreled LMG version complete with 75 round drum mag. Crazy isn't it.

There was an amendment added just before Christmas that would have made nearly all, centerfire self loaders prohibited but, the backlash from the opposition parties and firearms groups forced the government to abandon the amendment, for now anyway. Best overall semiauto rifle in the world. Back when I was like, 6, I wrote AK47 in a book before I even knew what that was. I'd never heard of one until when I was in my early teens. The ergonomics are fine. The gun has a mounting rail *for a reason.* So all of you "AK purists" out there that say it shouldn't run with one are *not* taking advantage of one of this semi-auto platform's many advantages. Scopes work, red dots work, don't listen to the "puritans." It's like physical censorship not to use one. Again, best overall gun in the game. Zastava m70 all black is one of my favorite AKs. I got the m92 too and you can't go wrong with either. The m70 with the Hogue and Archangel furniture is such a smooth shooter and robust. They are built better than my Arsenal Sam7.

It's always best to own easy to find calibers. 7.62x51, 7.62x39, 5.56mm,9mm, 45acp. In an invasion it's a good idea to have a weapon that fires the same ammo as your enemies rifles. The AK is one of the most widely used weapons in the world and ammo isn't hard to find.
The likelihood of an "invasion" by "enemy" soldiers is very close to zero. The likelihood that YOU will actually go to combat against said enemy is even closer to zero. You kids watch too much tv and play too many video games.

Being an owner of both platforms… the only big advantage I see to the AR platform is the ease of changing to a different caliber by simply changing the upper receiver. I have a Saiga .308 I bought back in the day ($450 then) and yes it’s absolutely easier to clean and disassemble. The chimp with the AK had me laughing out loud.
To be honest, I would never have purchased an AK platform weapon if it hadn’t been for Rob. Rob, thank you, my eyes are open and my primary rifle has become my beloved AKM.
In an emergency situation, it's no comparison between an AK and AR. With an AK you can't even pull the trigger with the safety on so it's blaringly obvious. With an AR, you have to chamber a round using TWO DIFFERENT controls and then pull the trigger praying that the safety is actually off. An AK is comparatively plug and play - less rigamarole.
Slav vibes :) Soviet officer who fought in Afghanistan in the 80s told me they never lubed their AK's before the mountain raids, to avoid dust and grime stick to the parts. When firing, soot itself was greasy enough too get AK's running indefinitely

I have both because imo, you should never limit yourself to one type of rifle. I think cleaning ARs is just as easy and/or takes about the same amount of time when u take into consideration getting the dust cover correctly back on the AK. As far as accessories(of couse) and accuracy I prefer the AR but the AK is iconic and I like the 7.62x39 round in general.
I had a 1-5x LPVO on my Arsenal SAM 7SF but i switched it out to a red dot. Standing unsupported is the AK's bread and butter and it's just too much fun.

My Bulgarian ISD LTD SSR-85C-2 was made from a disassembled Type 3 AK47 from the Bulgarian Ministry Of Defense, with a Styre Cold Hammer Forged Chrome Lined barrel, and built on a 1.6mm receiver, they were the first to do this receiver other than the Chineese AK47’s, and built by ISD LTD Bulgaria, under the Supervision of Ivan Kolev, then imported to Armory U.S.A in Texas, and milled out to receive double stack mags, it’s such a beast and such a great and Beautiful rifle!
My main liking to them is probably their biggest downside in my opinion. It’s the iron sights. I’m not a huge fan of red dots and other optics for a couple of reasons and I just like iron sights. I undeniably shoot better at distances with an ar. Whether that’s cus of the gun, the caliber, the iron sights, or all of the above, I personally shoot better groups at distance than the ak. It’s up close within 25 meters where I shine with the ak. The lack of prep sights allows me to have so much more vision and quickly acquire my sights. It feels like shooting pistol sights. Less tunnel vision than peep sights. I do sometimes wish that they were further apart, though.

I love the classic wood setup on an AKM, but I could never find a 16" pull wood stock. I had to convert all my AKs to adjustable stocks. Also I have not been able to find a side rail mount that is height adjustable and not bulky, so it can ride right above the dust cover and not have the need for a cheek riser. I also have to get aftermarket safety levers, because I don't have E.T. fingers to work the original safety lever. The Russian milspec magazine paddle is not big enough to work it with thick gloves, unless you install an aftermarket "oversized" paddle. Other than that, I love all my AKs in every other caliber, but the Russian calibers!🙃
Fernando, mil spec mag release works perfectly fine, index your thumb in gloves to the trigger guard, follow the trigger guard and hit the mag release - alternatively, if you wearing really thick mittens, use other mag to hit the release lever with it. @safety - I'm not sure about ET fingers, lol, but use your first 3 fingers and drop that safety down. If it's hard to move, watch our old "ak safety lever 101" video. I talk about adjusting tension on the safety lever and etc.

If you live in a climate where it gets below freezing you need an AK. The oversized and seemingly crude controls are a big advantage in sub-zero temperatures especially if you're wearing gloves and heavy clothing. Also, at the point where lubricants start to freeze you're in trouble with an AR. As Rob said AK can run bone dry. AK should be your cold weather rig.
Garand Thumb's Ice test proved this. The AKs ran flawlessly frozen while many other platforms failed. Makes sense considering that they were designed in Russia.
Cumbersome = large or heavy and therefore DIFFICULT to carry or USE; UNWIELDY 🤔
Another point here is going in and out of sub freezing temps causes condensation to build up and then freeze on/in the rifle. You don't need to drop your rifle in a creek or pour water over the rifle to be dealing with ice.
Yes my 350 legend AR froze up on me when hunting deer. The lubricant is suspect it was well below freezing outside that morning and I lost my chance at a nice buck.

It's training, experience, and understanding how each weapon system is. I own ARs, FALs, and AKs, each has each problems when it deals with dust, dirt, and mud. Main thing I learned from my Dad when he was in the Korean War as an infantryman, always carry a shaving brush and a tooth brush in your pocket along with a small cloth rag. No matter what during combat your rifle will always be exposed to dirt and dust. Check and brush off shit off your weapon before you go into combat. During combat always pay attention to your weapon to make sure your weapon is operational. A good movie to watch is from the 1950s after the Korean War called Pork Chop Hill with Gregory Peck. He was a Company Commander during an attack. Watch the movie because if you pay attention to his character each time he stops during and assault or after being rained down with dirt. He always carries a G.I. weapons tooth brush on his left pocket and brushes his M1 Carbine bolt to keep dirt off from the exposed locking lugs to keep it working. The AK series has the same locking lugs as an M1 Garand and M1 Carbine except that is protected by a dust cover. The AK series can have the same malfunction if dirt gets into the locking lugs and trunnion. Never ignore your rifle during combat. In Iraq I carried the old school cleaning kit on my body armor and one nylon paint brush, rag, and oil. I brushed the dust off my M4 Carbine, kept my dust cover closed, and checked the chamber, bolt, and star chamber clean if I was not firing during long operations, stops, and halts. I made sure my soldiers did the same so everyone could use their weapons if needed when we make contact. All my machineguns and SAWs were checked every time to it became paranoid practice. No greater fear than your weapon not working in combat when you need it the most. My platoon made it with no casualties and their weapons worked during combat and malfunctions were only bad ammo and instant immediate action to resume firing. A few guys in my platoon after I retired became good NCOs and one Officer. No one ever forgot me because I was an asshole with weapons care. Yes AKs are good rifles but a rifleman must keep it clean like every good soldier if he wants to stay alive during combat like all weapons systems.

I just taught a class of teenagers in an Air Cadet Squadron in New Zealand (your equiv of Civil Air Patrol) about cleaning and a toothbrush was the No 1 item... and they just use Marlin XT .22 The cloth rag I mentioned if they use scopes privately..
AKs are incredibly ergonomic and pointable in my opinion. People don’t like the safety because they’re doing speed drills or competitions like their favorite RUclipsr.
I personally prefer the safety on an ak over an AR’s yes it is more ergonomic than an AK but where it lacks ergonomics it makes up for in leverage and in visuals and what I mean by this is that either an instructor or your range buddy know where your rifle is on safe and I think that is important
I don’t think that’s necessarily true. A lot of it depends on your experiences. I don’t find AKs very ergonomic. But, I grew up with Garands, Carbines, M1As, ARs, Mini-14s, 10/22s, etc. The sights, feel, and particularly the safety, all feel a bit “wrong” to me. I never liked the open sights on a Winchester lever action, and that’s what the AK sights remind me of. AKs are just different than what your average American grows up with. It doesn’t make it any better, or worse. Just different.

I think the fact you have to move your hand or reach over the gun to charge the bolt, is the real concern.

@@Seth9809 Charging an AR15 is the most awkward feeling to me. I can barely even do it when using a sling. Flip side is the bolt release but the handle doesn’t offer much surface area to clear malfunctions and such. I’d take the reciprocating side handle any day over the AR’s charging.

Very good point about the safety. People care way to much about keeping their rifle on safe nowadays. You don't need to safe the rifle in-between every damn shot, if you're going to be shooting then keep it off and just keep your finger off the trigger, it's really not that hard.
I’ve always felt this way and people tried to shame me into the hivemind about it. If you plan on shooting, keep the safety off. If you don’t, put the safety on.
If you’re transitioning from AR pattern rifles, the ergonomics of the AK (safety, mag changes, etc) can be a stretch AT FIRST. But, after you train with the AK a bit, it becomes as natural as breathing.
As with any weapon. Going from an FAL to an R4 also takes some practice, whatever someone runs they should make manipulations a second nature.
People always compare the two and it kinda frustrates me. I sometimes catch flack for being an “AK guy” but it really shouldn’t surprise anyone who really knows me as I’m an extremely practical person. If ur a tinkerer or ur indecisive go w an AR cause u can change just ab anything to make it how u like it but if u just want something caveman simple that works get an AK

The safety is to stop going straight to full auto and emptying the mag when in combat. Saving rounds, and then switching to full auto once your adrenaline has calmed down. Something like that anyway..read it from Lee child's novel 'One Shot'. Better than the film. And Jack Reacher should no way be played by a man that's just talk enough to not be called a dwarf, but isn't even average height..Jack reacher is 6'5 . Sure you can change the character of someone, but for authenticity he really needs to be played by a muscular , tall guy. Tom cruise is awesome actor, and top gun is great film, and he deffo fits a fighter pilot, even mission impossible spy/special agent (Ethan hawke, is it?), but not Jack reacher..good film, but didn't sit well with me after reading the book, but that could be why. Saying that am waiting for a black James Bond, as the books don't describe him as white, just suave, and British.

@@HuyLe-vo4pg The WASR AK rifles used to all be cold hammer forged, not sure on the new one. But a cold hammer forged barrel can last up to 50,000 or so rounds mag dumping before it's shot out. A standard milled button rifled barrel will last around 15,000 to 20,000 rounds mag dumping before it's shot out and keyholing. There's a lot of other variables that change all that too including how hot you're getting the barrel, if you're letting it cool off, if you're using copper jacketed or bimetal steel jacket ammo, caliber being used, if you're using corrosive ammo and actually cleaning it correctly afterwards, etc.

@@HuyLe-vo4pg Those numbers really depend a lot on testing procedure and caliber, etc. Lucky gunner did a really extensive test on four AR15s using bimetal jacket and copper jacket ammo into the tens of thousands of rounds doing mag dumps and cool off periods. I think it's on RUclips on the lucky gunner website. Steel jackets make a big difference in barrel life especially if you're getting the barrel pretty hot. The bimetal steel jackets have more friction than copper or lead.
Only own an M70 in the AK category. Threw on a shark fin, Gen3 Dogleg, Holo sight, surefire light, and JMAC and she's wonderful.
Thing is an absolute tank. With weight to match. Love the thing.
I've started my wife and son out on AKs. They both shoot them well. Between the soft recoil and simplicity of operation, they're much more comfortable with that platform than an AR. They, of course, have been educated on the AR as well but they gravitate to AKs.

I love the process of putting parts kits together. Filing, sanding, drilling is way more fun than tightening a few screws. AK is in advanced gunsmithing even though it may look simple because it requires a lot of specialized tooling and is labor intensive to build.

I fell in love with the AK while serving in the marines in Iraq. When our M16 couldn’t handle the harsh environment, the old reliable AK was there for the taking and we never looked back. Sure an M16 may be more accurate in a surgically clean environment but I will take the AK any day over an M16. Since leaving the military I have acquired a Saiga, Wasr-10, and (unfortunately) an I.O. With the exception of the I.O. they are fantastic rifles.

My Grandfather fought the Soviet Army in WW2.
He told me of the PPSH. He said it was made of just 17 parts. You could strip it down, throw it in the mud, reassemble it and it’ll fire a full magazine without any problem.

One of my best friends does AK builds, just did a group of Type 1s and Type 2s. He gave me a 1970 Romanian MD-65, my AR is gathering dust. AKs are absolutely awesome. When I go to the range everyone wants to shoot it because it's absolutely beautiful, the sound of the way it charges and shoots are just cool and it's just totally badass. I can't really describe why I love it but from the authentic trench art on the furniture, the red birch is absolutely beautiful, the under folder makes it easy to haul in a backpack and it has great ergonomics. Great video, I agree with every point.

The AK has been my favorite rifle since I was young in the 90’s. I loved everything about it. Looks, ergonomics, design, everything. And one of the biggest reasons I love the ak platform is because I’m left handed. If you’re left handed, the AK just molds to you. I load, manipulate the safety handle and never have to take it off my shoulder. I don’t have anything against the AR, but I was just never drawn towards it. The AK is just better, more gangster, more interesting, the history is simply more interesting, the design of the AK has never changed since it’s introduction bc it’s never had to unlike the M16/M4, which was not very reliable in the Vietnam era, the 7.62 round is king over the 223/556, everything is better with the AK. More importantly, it’s just more fun to shoot than the AR. AR boys can argue all day, but it will never dispute the facts. And by the way, screw RUclips

The AR-10 can be chambered in 243, 308, and 6.5CM. The SKS is only 7.62x39. All three above have better ballistics and range over the x39 hence why he said if he wanted to reach out and touch something.
The AR got a bad rep from the mistakes of the Army back in Vietnam, but by today's standards, it holds it's own against the AK platform, hence why the military has had it now for over 60 years. I have both and honestly, it's a real hard decision which one would be my one and only, there's an equal amount of pro's and con's to both imo.
100% better ergonomics for a lefty. You can make an AR-15 ergonomic for left-handers, but most don't come that way.
I've been on the frontline for eight and half months with constant using of AK47, from the end of spring up to mid winter. I think I clean it maybe four or five times and only the barrel of the rifle had very few minor damages. It's a hell of a rifle.

I love both AR and AK platforms but im such a huge fan of the simplicity of the AK. When i was deployed in Finland we did some training on the finish service rife the RK63 and after a quick crash course on how to operate and use the AK platform I was able to do a disassembly and reassembly within 2-3 minutes blindfolded and the guys in my unit were doing it within less than 1 minute to almost 2 minutes as well. I could never do that on the M4.
I got a Ruger AR-556 (their basic AR-15 model) recently, and I enjoy using it. But I do know I definitely want an AK model from seeing channels like yours because they look like such fun, effective rifles. I'm thinking of getting a Zastava myself.

I’ve had a lot of them my favorite is the light ones regular akm zastava is good but it’s heavy and furniture doesn’t swap do like the .223 ar mag one. I have polish and Romanian aimr my favorite was a maddi Egyptian cuz Maby it had a thin receiver but it was light. Either way go for a import they always go up. Regular Akm

Zastava or PSA can't go wrong. Steer away from the new cheap Polish ak with cast bolt carrier. Can't remember the name.
Sweet, PSA is great. Their GF3 comes in at $599.99 with hammer forged internals, stay away from the stuff with cast internals.
I bought my AK-74 (5.45×39) many years ago as it's less recoil and a small round like like the AR-15.
Back then every time I went to the gun show I bought a couple1080 round spam cams of ammo when it was cheap. Then I discovered your Channel and your AKOU store, and purchased more magazines. If Rob said you need an AK, you need an AK.... dammit!

@@idkwhattohaveasausername5828 did you see his video where he showed how the cap of those tubular cleaning kits that are issued inside of the trapdoor buttstock, having the purpose of the cap being prop/stand for the sight tower, and then a hammer (or rock) can be used in the field on the other side to hit the windage drum and the front sight, as it moves into the hollow part of the cap!

I always wondered how soldiers abroad adjusted windage without press tool as I know they only issues elevation tools (also a notch in SOMETHING the cleaning kit tube, aswell as a notch for stubborn gas tube levers), but I just assumed their stuff wasn't as canted like exported stuff, especially in the past couple decades.
80s era "100% Factory Made" stuff will show more consistency when made to true milspec, then when the civi market demand got big here, stuff was thrown together as fast as possible (or mil reject builds) with the current rule of thumb being "If you can zero it, it's ok"
They use a Jig showing the range that the Front Sight Block and Gas Block have to remain within, which have a LOT of room to be wonky.....

Krebs & Polish safeties are the biggest improvement you can make to an AK. If you dont like the stock one, those are great solutions...My personal favorite is the Krebs enhanced safety V6 with NO bolt hold open.
I like the safety on the AK, it’s just placed a little inconvenient if that makes sense. Especially for those of us who are lefties. I think for most people it works fine but for those who have smaller hands or shorter fingers might have trouble pushing it down. I also like what you pointed out about how the safety blocks the rifle from even cycling or charging, which is great. The AK is a great rifle and the ergonomics are as well otherwise though. Simple, straightforward and easy to operate.
Get the Krebs modified selected switch. Has a little extra metal that sits right above thumb. I’m lefty too and handle it just as good as AR boys.

slavic folks have smaller hands, see most AK pistol grips. you can still keep your hand on the grip while hitting the safety lever. slide your hand forward up to the first knuckle on your thumb, and point your fingers out like youre going to karate chop. use your middle and ring fingers to catch the safety and rock your hand downward with your thumb as the pivot point.

AK's stock has a normal drop to where you shoulder it, the gun is far
quicker to shoulder and aim then the AR platform which as virtually no
drop to it's stock. All I know is that I can shoot an AR faster and more accurately then
I can an American AR15.
There's a reason the AK is so widely used still, very short learning curve with use, absolutely. I love my Zastava M70 AK, absolute workhorse.

Great video! compared to the AR, you gotta love the oversized (in comparison) safety level. The breakdown, cleaning and reassembly is much easier too. I wish I had the hours of my life back that I spent cleaning the damn star chamber and bolt carrier group.
You're not kidding, cleaning the AR series rifle is a major major gripe and getting it spotlessly clean for inspection (white glove test basically) is nightmarish.

My first tour in Iraq jan 2003-nov 2003 we never once put our weapons on safe. Zero nds. You just have to be aware of what your doing and be competent! To be honest i didnt put it on safe on any other tours either!

Best video ever. Forget about the AR-15. The AK is the only rifle I bring to the front lines.
My reason, is the caliber. In the thick vegetation of the Ozarks (not terribly far from Rob’s environment) the 7.62x39 is better at staying on course. I also have a little more confidence in it if used against black bears or Mountain lions. In personal defense, and open field, scenarios I still prefer the 5.56 … and an AR. But, an AK definitely has a niche it fills very well.

That whole 'brush gun caliper' thing just isn't true. A branch will deflect a 7.62 as much as it will a 5.56 or a .45-70. The 7.62x39mm is certainly a better choice for bear as even though it's would cavity isn't as devastating as 5.56/5.45 it has much greater penetration to get possible through-and-throughs on bears but at least touch their vitals with no issues.
Ar15 is available in 7.62x39
"Brush busting calibers" are a myth. A small branch will deflect even a 45 caliber bullet.
Yes accessories, You can have as many different scopes with side mount pickneys rail with scope mounted on. Think it is like picking a club out of a golf bag. a 2-9 for deer, a 4-24 for long distant, and a video scope for the night vision pig hunting. All will hold their zero just slide on the side. Just know the height above barrel for ballistic app and scope name and type of radical. For no scope get the AK targets there is a video fun to do. Learn to shoot off hand and not on a bench that is the skill to have!
I've had a Norinco Mak 90 since 1999 and I still love it, I would never get rid of it. But now I have custom ARs so I plan to put mine back to the old school configuration with the wood. For your modernized version you should look into 6.5 Grendel. It's a better round and based on the original AK round. You would need to get the stuff to reload for it because it's not available enough. I think the Grendel would be the perfect modern AK round.

The 6.5 Grendel would be the right choice in case of an AK platform upgrade, as the 6.8 SPC would be for the AR one. Classic ammunition is now becoming obsolete, for various reasons: the 7.62 is too big and powerful, with excessive weight and recoil, an insufficient range and not very good ballistics; the 5.45 is too weak, with the bulletproof vests that are spreading more and more it will become almost useless to shoot at the enemy. The way forward is ammunition from 6.5 to 7 mm, the right compromise between performance, weight and manageability.
AK’s are awesome, i have quite a few. Everyone who shoots them, likes them. Rob is great and he is extremely knowledgeable and very helpful.

I bought the last WASR 10 available at my local dealer, swapped the cheap furniture for good plum gear, and LOVE how well it shoots. Better ergonomics than standard AR's for me, (slightly) lighter than my AR, and the ammo's still cheaper than 5.56 rounds. Besides all this, it's exotic compared to everything else I see, it gets looks and comments at the range, most of them are positive.

@@banthycan What the hell lol? WASR-10 are one of the few good imported AK's from Romania. If you see a WASR-10 for that, snatch it NOW, that's a good deal in this market.
@@sovereignsammy8528 looked into it a bit, 100% agree. They ain't pretty but it's and AK that runs. Maybe I'll consider it. The m70 underfolder seems like the better of the two imo as of right now.

I have a friend of mine who is one such person that is lucky enough to have a full auto AKM and I got to shoot it quite a bit. my experiences with it is that it is very pleasant to shoot and with proper fire discipline it is very effective even at longer Range.
i've got a norinco ak ,got it in the early 90's as a thumb hole stock . that didn't last long also cut the tack weld for the flash hider . i love
my ak and would never part with it . i used it for deer hunting just popped a 5 round mag in and i was in business. i got 1 deer at 165 yards .

Yea they spikes back in the big covid scares but they've already settled back down for the most part where i live around and both 7.62×39 and 5.45 is still cheaper than any 5.56 round by easily a couple dollars at minimum.

@David Browning about 8-10 dollars a box of 20 for the cheap steel stuff like tula or wolf which is what i normally run. A box of standard 55 grain brass case 5.56 cost around 12-15 dollars depending on manufacturer. Most of the 5.45 ammo iv seen was around the same prices as the 5.56. This was just a few days ago since i last looked but i have 9.99 priced 7.62 tula ammo from several months ago
4.99 was the standard price for 20rds of 762 Tula. I paid 6.99 to 7.49 for a 20rd box of federal xm193 brass. Pre 2020 election. After that everything went up and then went up again during the pandemic.

7.62 steel case ammo is starting to rise in price over 5.56 and 223 brass cased ammo. If your going to buy an ak to shoot a lot, get one in 5.56 or a galil at this point. The price gap will only increase as the russian steel dries up.

And as the manual that came with my brand new PSA AKM-47 GF3 says: 1- Treat every firearm as if it were loaded. 2- Always keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction. 3- Do not load the weapon until ready to to use. 4- Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot. Rob's points are good points. Of course have to get the best quality AKM you can.

I just picked up my Zpap M70 a few days ago. I just 0ed her today. And omg I'm totally AK converted. Granted it was easy for me to jump. Because my previous weapon was an SKS. Oh and the charging handle I love more on the AK because I'm a lefty.

Probably the best safety-selector for the Kalashnikov design is on the Israeli Galil. It is a (left side) thumb operated control with linkage contained in the receiver that is quite easy to manipulate. Some of the various AK designs have a notch cut into the safety that serves as a hold-open for the charging handle. This can be cut into a safety that was not manufactured that way. The only AK malfunction I ever saw in Vietnam (1966, 1967, 1968 and again in 1971; Rifle Company, Batallion recon, Brigade LRRP platoon) was when an AK mag had the steel follower rust into place while loaded. There was no mystery as to why the owner was killed; after whacking the magazine on a coconut palm tree the ammunition was simply shaken out of it. In 1987 I suggested to the importer of the Polytech AKs that they really needed a plated follower and he reported it back up the line; that did the trick. The Russian-European made bakelite plastic magazines have no problems I ever heard of. By the way, what you "NEED" is 7.62x39 AMMO..

We can however, own the Chinese Type-81 rifles. I have the heavy barreled LMG version complete with 75 round drum mag. Crazy isn't it.

Most of these are semi-auto and magazine fed. There was an amendment added just before Christmas that would have made nearly all, centerfire self loaders prohibited but, the backlash from the opposition parties and firearms groups forced the government to abandon the amendment, for now anyway.

Best overall semiauto rifle in the world. Back when I was like, 6, I wrote AK47 in a book before I even knew what that was. I'd never heard of one until when I was in my early teens.
The ergonomics are fine. The gun has a mounting rail *for a reason.* So all of you "AK purists" out there that say it shouldn't run with one are *not* taking advantage of one of this semi-auto platform's many advantages.
Scopes work, red dots work, don't listen to the "puritans." It's like physical censorship not to use one.

Zastava m70 all black is one of my favorite AKs. I got the m92 too and you can't go wrong with either. The m70 with the Hogue and Archangel furniture is such a smooth shooter and robust. They are built better than my Arsenal Sam7.

It's always best to own easy to find calibers. 7.62x51, 7.62x39, 5.56mm,9mm, 45acp. In an invasion it's a good idea to have a weapon that fires the same ammo as your enemies rifles. The AK is one of the most widely used weapons in the world and ammo isn't hard to find.
The likelihood of an "invasion" by "enemy" soldiers is very close to zero. The likelihood that YOU will actually go to combat against said enemy is even closer to zero. You kids watch too much tv and play too many video games.

Being an owner of both platforms… the only big advantage I see to the AR platform is the ease of changing to a different caliber by simply changing the upper receiver. I have a Saiga .308 I bought back in the day ($450 then) and yes it’s absolutely easier to clean and disassemble. The chimp with the AK had me laughing out loud.
AR is better in mag changing. The rest is on AK side - simplicity first of all. I got Polish AKM from mid 80s. Excellent mil one.

To be honest, I would never have purchased an AK platform weapon if it hadn’t been for Rob. Rob, thank you, my eyes are open and my primary rifle has become my beloved AKM.

In an emergency situation, it's no comparison between an AK and AR. With an AK you can't even pull the trigger with the safety on so it's blaringly obvious. With an AR, you have to chamber a round using TWO DIFFERENT controls and then pull the trigger praying that the safety is actually off. An AK is comparatively plug and play - less rigamarole.
An AR is about 500 and an AK is about 1000. 7.62x39 is the same price as brass 5,56. For half the price and same ammo costs, I'll take an AR

Soviet officer who fought in Afghanistan in the 80s told me they never lubed their AK's before the mountain raids, to avoid dust and grime stick to the parts. When firing, soot itself was greasy enough too get AK's running indefinitely

I have both because imo, you should never limit yourself to one type of rifle. I think cleaning ARs is just as easy and/or takes about the same amount of time when u take into consideration getting the dust cover correctly back on the AK. As far as accessories(of couse) and accuracy I prefer the AR but the AK is iconic and I like the 7.62x39 round in general.

I've been reloading 7.62x39 for years.
I had a 1-5x LPVO on my Arsenal SAM 7SF but i switched it out to a red dot. Standing unsupported is the AK's bread and butter and it's just too much fun.
Rule 1: Unlike a GF, an AK can run dry.
Rule 2: Unlike a GF, it's easy to get into every nook and cranny... to clean.
Rule 3: Unlike a GF, an AK is easy to turn on by touch.
Rule 4: Unlike a GF, an AK can be understood.
Rule 5: Unlike a GF, an AK likes being with you during winter.
Bonus Rule: Unlike a GF, AK accessories are beautiful and functional.
An AK must be better than a GF.

My Bulgarian ISD LTD SSR-85C-2 was made from a disassembled Type 3 AK47 from the Bulgarian Ministry Of Defense, with a Styre Cold Hammer Forged Chrome Lined barrel, and built on a 1.6mm receiver, they were the first to do this receiver other than the Chineese AK47’s, and built by ISD LTD Bulgaria, under the Supervision of Ivan Kolev, then imported to Armory U.S.A in Texas, and milled out to receive double stack mags, it’s such a beast and such a great and Beautiful rifle!
My main liking to them is probably their biggest downside in my opinion. It’s the iron sights. I’m not a huge fan of red dots and other optics for a couple of reasons and I just like iron sights. I undeniably shoot better at distances with an ar. Whether that’s cus of the gun, the caliber, the iron sights, or all of the above, I personally shoot better groups at distance than the ak. It’s up close within 25 meters where I shine with the ak. The lack of prep sights allows me to have so much more vision and quickly acquire my sights. It feels like shooting pistol sights. Less tunnel vision than peep sights. I do sometimes wish that they were further apart, though.
For me and my area, AK is absolutely the best rifle for me. And I like my ARs too. But winter more than half of the year. I’ll take an AK first
