Hello everybody. From outside of the city, some of you might find the structure and the general design of the Istanbul metro weird. However, it would be best if you kept in mind that the city's terrain is quite hilly, there is a strait that divides the city into two parts, and it hosts more than 16 million people. Hence, the planners take the train stations to where people concentrate the most and as much as the terrain allows.

Fantastic video! As an Istanbul resident who is interested in rail transportation, I enjoyed this video a lot. The expansion of Metro Istanbul is sadly staggered a lot by politics; the Turkish governent and the Istanbul Municipality build and operate seperate sections of Metro Istanbul (for example the Marmaray line and M11 were predominantly funded by TCDD (the national railway administration in Turkey)) and the political parties use the metro as a sort of propaganda material to get more votes. This is a positive especially when the local elections are approaching as the rail line and station constructions get accelerated but whenever one of the sides are elected, the expansion slows down. The current mayor paid a lot of attention (and money) to expand the metro line and we have gotten some fantastic progress into the expansion of Metro Istanbul during this time and now that (as of writing) the local elections are quite close by, the expansion rate of the metro line is high, but time will tell if it will stay the same way after the elections. Greetings from Istanbul and thank you for this fantastic video! Keep up the great work!
amazing work. two notes: - some lines (especially trams from the ottoman / early republic era are not shown here. for example the istiklal tram (T2) was used during the Ottoman era. It was merely reintroduced in 1990. another tram line between üsküdar and kadıköy that used to pass from doğancılar çiçekçi and selimiye neighbourhoods was made obsolete. There were many more including one passing from Beşiktaş.. obviously tracking and including these to the video would be too complex. - the video is 9 months old. some new lines were announced. like the üsküdar - kadıköy - maltepe tram line, which was inspired from the old line i mentioned above but this time using a slightly different route to get to kadıköy from üsküdar. it really amazed me how the infrastructure of istanbul is growing by the day. truly amazing
Can you make a video of the Santiago metro??? Although there are some, the long-term plans were improved and now there are some extensions that do not appear in the other videos. It would also be interesting if you also include its suburban train network, which is also expanding. You could also add the Santiago cable cars (currently it is is creating one that is more massive) and if you can add the 2 funiculars that the city has?
Halkalı gets 5 interconnecting metro lines meanwhile the Sarıyer residents have only two options to be able to stay in touch with the rest of İstanbul; the coastline and Büyükdere Avenue, which is a choice between death and eternal suffering.

But In Istanbul, A round trip from MetroKent to Yenisahra cost us 110₺ total for the 3 of us.
@@Azuratsz costing that much is probably because of the cards that you don't have. although its a huge project, i don't believe it's going to happen on a date as close as 2030, it will require a new crossing on the strait, deep and wide tunnels for large rail vehicles. And it's very, very long. Impossible to even design before 2026 i would say.
In the firsr half of 1900s, there were tram lines but eventually they were replaced by trolleybuses which were very inefficient in 50s or 60s as i remember. Later, they were replaced by buses. Even the moda and istiklal street nostalgic trams were not existed at that period. They were re-established after 1989
Also old european and anatolian side suburban trains are missing, marmaray is shown here but simply marmaray is a modernization and connection project for these two lines. Which disappeared for nearly 5 years in 2010s
Fun Fact the B2 Line isn't a metro line. It is a reused train line. and it doesn't stop at "Ispartakule" and it is only avalible for 4 times a day
Is it the train line that crosses the Gölet in Bahçeşehir?
B2 is so irrelevant that IETT dont even consider it
yes it passes Gölet but it doesn't stop in the station which literraly next to Gölet. The station near Gölet is as you know "Ispartakule"@@dennisunderscore

As a Turk, i want to thank you! Even our own government wouldn't make illustrations like this and this is really helpful.
There were trams in Istanbul from around 1880s until 1960s before the reintroduction in the 90s
quality illustration, thanks for providing this, I got insight on the history of the metro, and also the future expansions.

the best video that explains istanbul railway systems… thanks for your effort
Ain't no way that's real OpelCorsa03!!!
Sehr guter Kanal, danke für Ihr tolle Arbeit
You make the best animations of Public Transport Networks, please go on :)
amazing work. two notes:
- some lines (especially trams from the ottoman / early republic era are not shown here.
for example the istiklal tram (T2) was used during the Ottoman era.
Santiago has the best metro in Latin America.
Thank you for making a video on Istanbul.
You forgot the F5, the unreleased İ.T.Ü, Reşitpaşa and İstinye funicular that will probably release in 2030.
Halkalı gets 5 interconnecting metro lines meanwhile the Sarıyer residents have only two options to be able to stay in touch with the rest of İstanbul; the coastline and Büyükdere Avenue, which is a choice between death and eternal suffering.

Why the old suburban lines B1 and B2(Anatolian side) are not mentioned ? Marmaray literally replaced them, mostly using the same train path along the line. Perhaps metrobus line could also have been mentioned , it is technically not a metro line but operates like one.
those were train, not a metro

@@monsterology2421 Well it has tram and cablecar too, but that's it. The video doesn't include standard trains used for commodity transport or long distance travel.
that train line wasnt just there for long distance travels , it used to serve as a public transportation too , and marmaray literally replaced the train path(and the purpose), if one exists on the video, so should the other one.
if you are putting tram there , might as well put metrobus too because metrobus acts like metro and should also be included
@@monsterology2421 Metrobus is not a metro, it's Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). Video title is "Istanbul Metro Evolution", not "Istanbul Public Transport Evolution". İt used to be Paris, but Istanbul is the best metro system in the world by network. I wish we had them in Melbourne. Ten minutes trip can cost you over an hour in Melbourne public transport. Well done Turkiye.
Still you hop from one metro to another. Eventhough the city center is big, area-wise it is a small city. It is still very painful to use 2 or 3 different metros to traverse 7-8 kilometers. Therefore most of my friends who live in there only go to places their local metro line could reach
this is so beautiful and exciting, i love metros, i love istanbul and i love metro istanbul. also m20 and m34 are gonna be crazy projects, m20 is like an alternative to metrobüs which i think is going to be a huge relief. m34 is even crazier, another marmaray but from one side of istanbul to whole another. marmaray is huge in our heads but i'm really looking forward to what m34 is gonna be like if it ever happens.
As a local of İstanbul I'm really curious about m34, for god's sake it's really magnificent and huge

As a Turk, I think, our public transportation is very good.
Ikr, i used to live in Istanbul and use the System almost every day. It was easy to navigate and frequencies were very good compared to the place i live now, The US. Metros come here every 30 mins and most of them are empty. The trams however, homeless people ride them but the trams come every 15 mins. The bus here is almost the same for trams. Empty, Homeless. I don’t care about these but the Ticket in America is very very cheap. You can ride the transit for $6 around the whole city for the whole day! But In Istanbul, A round trip from MetroKent to Yenisahra cost us 110₺ total for the 3 of us.
@@Azuratsz costing that much is probably because of the cards that you don't have. Like if you are a tourist and bought a card for a single ride it is mostly way more than it costs to citizens who have an individual card. Also you can always get a subscribtion if you have a job or daily routine that makes you use this network every day for a few times. I guess it is about 1.2k a month and gives you about 200 rides. Thus makes it 6 liras per ride. Also students and people who is in the need of social help pays less more for this subscribtion. Students pay 212 liras, people with disabilities and seniors older than 65 ride for free.
