    Apart from the metro lines, the Metrobus line, 5 tram lines, 3 funicular lines, 2 cable car lines, sea transportation lines and the bus system actually have a very impressive transportation network between the two continents. In the future, they plan to connect Sabiha Gökçen airports and the westernmost end of the city, further north from the coastline, with a new metro line (hizray) between 2 continents. TCDD and Istanbul Metro companies work harder due to political competition. The municipality is in opposition and the government is trying to win back Istanbul by serving TCDD. The city is very crowded. Metro Istanbul is trying to give the density to sea transportation by commissioning the ferry lines and connecting the metro lines here. At the moment, there are 6 metro lines that are in the project phase, apart from the ones that are under construction in the video. It is very easy to change continents every day in Istanbul :)

    • @fusionreactor7179
      @fusionreactor7179 Год назад +1

      I feel like the 6 projects have been stuck in project phase because of the economic crisis. I feel like no new line has entered contract-cnstruction ohase in years. They barely had the funds to get the barely started lines to get going like M10

    • @berge6731
      @berge6731 Год назад +1

      @@fusionreactor7179 The delays are more political than economic reasons. The President should approve the money received from abroad, but instead of signing these projects are put on hold. The municipality solves the problem by creating other resources.

    I would like to correct that the M4 line's operating speed is 80 km/h and it carries much more passengers than 220.000 per day. Before the Sabiha Gokcen Airport extension was opened, the average daily ridership was 400.000 passengers per day and after the Airport extension is opened, it increased much more. You can tell it from the crowd. Due to the high passenger count, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality decided to buy 100 new cars (25*4-car train sets) to increase capacity of the line

    Hello! Can you do the Athens Metro? It's never been covered by a foreigner so it'd be interesting to see an analysis! It has just 72 stations quite short for a city 5 million inhabitants, but it's quite efficient. Plus, a brand new automatic line, line 4 is being constructed right now, with a cost of 3.3 bln €. Also in terms of traffic, according to unofficial data, since official ones haven't been given since 2013, where it was recorded that almost 495 million passengers used the Metro, the metro handles about 2 mln people per day.

    Speaking for myself, I'm very interested in mass urban transport. And as others have mentioned, a focus on some place other than western and southern Europe and Japan is appreciated, too.
    What strikes me about this system is the number of different electrification systems and manufacturers. In terms of maintenance and interchangeability, that must be a challenge. On the other hand, with Istanbul being home to 16 million people (and 1.5 million street cats, let's not forget about those 🙂), perhaps it should be looked at as a country in its own right. And then, even though you still have at least three different systems if I counted correctly (750V overhead wire, 750V third rail, and 1500V overhead wire), one could see it in a different light.
