I grew up eating pb&j, with some good bread from my grandparents local market they would give us… sometimes I’ll see it in my lunch bag (or my new shiny lunch box)..We always had fresh tortillas and my mom once in awhile would heat up tortillas and spread peanut butter and grape jelly in the hot tortilla and roll it up and fold the end so it wouldn’t spill on us, and a glass of cold milk. The peanut butter was warm and kind of melted, it was so good, better than bread! Even now, I make myself a hot tortilla with p&j! 😁

I have recently come to love agar agar - I've known about it for years but only recently started using it and it's great. I mostly make panna cotta with it which, being vegetarian, I've not been able to eat in the past.
If you’re going to try this recipe, I suggest using oat milk for the “bread” layer. And like Emmy suggested, juice or concentrated squash for the “jelly” layer!
Linh Giang- White while oat milk would fix the whole vegan issue, it wouldn’t produce the same opaque color as heavy cream and milk. Also to add, powdered peanut butter would work much better as the flavor would be better, and it would mix extremely easily.
I would be very interested in seeing a meat and cheese type sandwich made smooth. Like a ham and cheddar with lettuce and tomato. I imagine you individually boiling lettuce and tomato until they were mashed into a liquid and mixed with agar powder would make those layers. I don't know what you would do with the ham layer but the cheddar layer would be easy. just melt some cheese into some milk, add turmeric for color, add agar powder and let it set with the other layers.

If well balanced with salt and herbs it would taste good, I think. what layers were you thinking? bread, salad, tomato, cucumber, cheese and ham? I think I've just had an insane idea for this summer. A good way of getting jelly or gelatin molds to release is to use a warm, moist towel wrapped around the bottom of the mold to help warm the gelatin a little so it releases.

When unmolding jelly things- take a towel soaked in HOT water and wrap it around the dish for a minute. It will help the jelly come off the edges. :)

If you’re going to try this recipe, I suggest using oat milk for the “bread” layer. And like Emmy suggested, juice or concentrated squash for the “jelly” layer!
Linh Giang- White while oat milk would fix the whole vegan issue, it wouldn’t produce the same opaque color as heavy cream and milk. Also to add, powdered peanut butter would work much better as the flavor would be better, and it would mix extremely easily.
Oat milk is a wonderful idea. I had said perhaps a concentrated or reduced juice. I bet frozen juice concentrate would work well.
Also.. To help adhere I have some powdered pb&J or perhaps a litle more agar agar for holding powder. Yay, recipe experiments are my favorite.

I would be very interested in seeing a meat and cheese type sandwich made smooth. Like a ham and cheddar with lettuce and tomato. I imagine you individually boiling lettuce and tomato until they were mashed into a liquid and mixed with agar powder would make those layers. I don't know what you would do with the ham layer but the cheddar layer would be easy. just melt some cheese into some milk, add turmeric for color, add agar powder and let it set with the other layers.

A good way of getting jelly or gelatin molds to release is to use a warm, moist towel wrapped around the bottom of the mold to help warm the gelatin a little so it releases.
