Old timer here, I've had those webbings snap on before from long exposure to UV light and I've had stainless steel fittings 12mm(1/2") thick snap from stress corrosion. If you are climbing without a backup you need to renew all your gear on a regular basis.
randomly stumbled across this video, simultaneously fascinating and terrifying, generally not afraid of highs and I've climbed plenty of trees before when I was younger, but none remotely this tall and never with a chainsaw on my person. Really cool video.
Kinda glad you explained the issue with the limbs. I had noticed several times lower in the tree they would pop as the saw made contact with the top almost as if the bark was the main support.

Yeah the amount of times he plugs the site is getting annoying.
We know where to get the shit lol
@@JesseJames-23just as annoying as people typing "lol" when it clearly wasn't anything to laugh out loud to. Wouldn't even be pushing "haha" 😒
ya srsly laughing out loud
There's so much involved with that job. Just amazed at how effortless you make it look. 👍👍. One humongous tree.
@@m8sr8z_ lol doesn't just mean laughing out loud, lol, kek, lel, lmao, lmfao, they're all made up and mean whatever you intend. i would be surprised if more than 2% of internet users were annoyed by the use of lol
Great camerawork, well edited, seeing the chainsaw blade so close to your harness rope sometimes was a bit scary..
i think he said its a steel cable at the start or something like that
@@whynot6563 You won't be able to cut hose ropes with the saw. Sure it is ruined, but it can still hold you many times over even with just a few strands. The suite and jeans are made similarly. They will tangle the blade stopping it, trust me they work :D
@@Diglo1 thanks for the awnser ... but i didnt ask anything xD
@@Diglo1 The climbing line will get disintegrated by the saw. A flip line with steel core might hold, but there is absolutely no guarantee. Neither of the lines will tangle the saw like the clothes does.
@@abegbg
We use Tree Runner Brand and I have personally hit this rope with a blade and it did tangle.
They are marketed for this exact job.
However depending on materials used, all climing ropes are very cut resistant.
I was getting nervous around 19:50 and how close it "appeared" the saw tip was getting to your rope!! Awesome video.
same here!
same
it was way way way too close !!! thats for sure
The way you cut those two tops at once was amazing. Great job!
It's probably the camera, but it seems like your chainsaw is super close to the rope holding you to the tree. Crazy scary looking!
Relax. I'm 100% sure personal safety is his first concern.
He did also mention the rope was steel cored too near the beginning I believe. Unless I misunderstood
Man, that saw is almost too hot to make small notches. One little blip, and it's half way through the branch already. The way the limbs were popping off was awsome
With oregan bars you can guarantee a 'hot saw' I have a 12" bar with no oil hole, saw never used a single drop of oil until I drilled an oil hole.. quality that crap is not.
I subbed when you were over at ETW and moved here. I knew you would do great. Your explanation of the Doug Firs popping limbs solved my question to my prior problems. Yeah I have 5- 120’ Doug Firs 75 ft from my house and had an 5” diameter branch come down last years late snow ice in Feb 2023. Paid Arborist to come and clean the damaged widowmakers that remained and some proper long term love. I did have a crew trim them waaay back in 2008 after we purchased the house and so it was time. 50 year old trees are 120 ft tall. I know, counted rings on prior thinning job. Basically planted in the year the house was built in 1962. The area was a former pasture and dairy farm in the 40-50’s and the farmer sold and it became a housing tract.
I used to leave some of those stubs on the way up and finish them on the way down. Much more comfortable than using only spikes on the entire job. Take some of the stress off your feet. Also for removals, my rule was always use a flipline with a steel cable. Use the rope one for trimming and lighter work. It's also easier to throw around a large tree. I was surprised to see you using only a rope flipline on this job.
Awesome video. Helps me pass the time as I recover from Covid! Thanks for posting.
Dude you are such a character to listen too. Your right about these Doug Firs, Im here in Washington State also. Just bucked me up a 42" - a nice work out. Enjoy your vids and banter. Best vid Ive seen of tree removal in a long time. Steve
My favorite topping yet, fits look like fun when there’s minimal rigging
I love this video the way the limbs just pop off are so cool. Just got myself a second hand saw can’t wait to try it out.
My brother and I both run Husq 394xp's (94 cc) with 32" bars for our big saws. High rpm and they cut like a bat outta hell. We've tried a lot of others and keep coming back to Husqvarna. I've had my Stihl 066 Mag with a 36" bar fail running the same chain as the Husqs and stepped in with the 394xp to get it done. The Husqs just never let us down. Nice work.
Can you show how you climb around on the tree and cut each branch. Im very curious on how you dont damage your ropes while working. Great video. Love this kind of content. Gets the blood flowiing from the safty of my chair lol
I would be terrified I'd cut my rope too. I was wondering how he changed heights as he worked his way down.
@@jamesrobertson9597 some of his older videos show more climbing detail. He tends to leave that detail out of more recent videos, I think because regular viewers have seen it numerous times.
I was so fascinated just watching you work. I kept worrying about the saw hitting a rope.
Totally get the square vs round issues. At some point I want to get a full spool of square and turn it into as many chains as I can get and have them all ready to go. When one gets dull I’ll swap. When I finally run out I’ll spend the afternoon sharpening them all at once.
Always Love watching you cutting down the big fir trees!
That wasn't a big tree, I'm just North in BC and that is a small tree for the area. Big is 5 times that size.
@@jaquigreenlees I bet it is! I have seem some pretty big trees in BC When I am down there.
Well done Jacob. Professional as always.
Mesmerising watching the process
Great Job Guy's, and nobody got hurt cutting-down the Big Fir Tree.
gosh, I see what you mean about the rapid growth of trees in that area! I have never seen growth rings that large! Some of them must have been 1/4" or more! Wow
It’s amazing how fast some trees will grow, given ideal conditions. I’ve seen American elms that grew in low places that puddle frequently, which had some rings easily exceeding 1/2 inch, maybe even 3/4 inch. And although I’ve never cut one down to be able to see the growth, I can say that bald cypress is no slouch either. My mom has one in her back yard, it’s now about 35 years old, and massive. It now draws so much water, that it nearly prevents that area from puddling, when it used to collect 6 inches of water in the spring, and remain wet for nearly 2 months. And that’s in Missouri! 😁
You are such a daring dude, thanks for such cool content.
I’d love it if you worked with someone to sell fully ported saws directly from sappy supplies. Make it easy for us to get our hands on some rippers!
Ripsaw
Red beard saws ripsaw takes 16 to 20 weeks. Which they are good. red beard. Maybe 4 weeks amazing red beard does amazing work too god bless
Jake I was thinking about Jed today. Check in on his wife and kids would you?😢
Happy to see the 592 back in action! 🤙🏼
Forgive my lack of knowledge, I didn't know douglas firs could get so big! I know them as a Christmas tree, but I didn't know they could get so tall. Kind of amazing.
Your tree falling vids are superb ...nice Work !
That double top was masterfully done!
Nice work Jacob. Really like that Husqvarna top handle with that bar and chain combination. Does a lot of production
Oregan bars are terrible.. the 12" I have has no oil hole until I machined one myself..
I have noticed limb drop of similar type trees on my customers lawns. I have surmised the trees drop them purposefully to almost provide a self made mulch around the base. Such tree matter on the ground would discourage the growth of competition. Respect your hard work and wish I was there to help.
Kind of blown away by that saw. Can't think of a better ad than this. Nice rigging.
Dude…. I’m speechless… your skill at what you do is monster… your bad ass man…
Nice work. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
@GuiltyofTreeson........ what did I win?
These vids are always so satisfying and actually quite educational. Thank you for providing the content. You ever watch Buckin' Billy Ray? Also love that channel.
Nice job with the split trunk log 🎉🎉🎉
That log flop to the intro was fire.
Double Topping was sweet 🙂. Good job Jacob
Imagine 10 inches of wet heavy snow on every spring loaded branch sitting 100 feet above your head. Happens every winter. Way too dangerous. That tree had to go.
29:21 the clarity of this camera is seriously impressive.
this video is both relaxing and anxiety inducing at the same time
so effing COOL! Cant believe I have never seen this youtube channel before. Amazing job cutting that tree and those branches down. You earned a sub! I'll be back for more.
Love the channel bro congrats on the success
Great job Jake stay safe. God bless. I hope always well my friend.
It felt like i was falling about 7 times while watching this. Much respect
Decent amount of soft wood there - be nice for some DIY projects.
Looking on line I see that tree was roughly 75 - 80 years old as a guesstimate, so 139.5 cm in diameter is pretty impressive - must be all the water.
my first tree, an oak, 54 inches across the stump after we felled it. I put together a 2 saw, double ended 66 inch bar rig. I asked a friend, retired, with tree service experience for help. He had a active tree service friend who "volunteered" (a 12 pack of his preferred beer). Turned out to be hollow. Well under 1 minute sawing time, could have felled it with a 12 inch bar. Real people, with real world experience, sharing and yes teaching here on "the youtube" are of great value to many.
Great Work Bud 👍👍Fantastic view not sure how high you were 👍👍
Dude I loved watching your videos like a year or two ago and I just couldn’t remember what your channel was called but I’m glad I did
That was really fun to watch, you are a pro.
Congrats on a million subs jake!
This might be your best video yet ! I now know what kind of person you are ! You are a great father ! And your heart is right where it should be ! No one could talk trash about you and get away wit it cuz I wouldn’t let that happen! You go guy ! And be safe ! Your brother for life ! Mr randy shaffer sr
Good job man.Perfectly.
amazing how those branches just pop off like that while you're sawing
My Dad planted two Douglas Firs outside out holiday home, way back in about 1980 or so. My mother, in her wisdom, cut the centre out of one of the trees because "that's what you're supposed to do" thinking they should be pruned the same as apple trees. My dad realised what she was doing and stopped her from maiming the second one.
Dad sold the home in 1998 in order to build his retirement house. The Dougs at the time were about 20 feet tall and the damaged tree had grown out one of the side branches to become the new, near vertical trunk. I had the first chance since the sale to go see the place in June of this year and the trees are both at least 140ft tall. They are overhanging both the house and the garage, as well as intruding into the airspace above both neighbours' yards and dominating the entire front yard of the property. The tree that my mum had damaged has crotched and formed two trunks just a dozen feet or so from the base.
I feel sorry for the new owners. It's going to cost them a bundle when they have to take down these nearly 45 year old trees.
Nice work. I like the Jake and Randy show too. Hope you guys do more work together.
its sad to see such a beautiful and huge tree go away, but it is for the better
I have no idea why the algorithm decided I should watch this, but this was a really cool journey. Great video!
this video tickled my tism, thank you
Finally the 880 then instead disappointed with chain. Makes saw look bad. Great job Jac old climber here. Love watching every branch. Body’s shot minds still in the game.
Sir, you earned a sub, not just because of your tradecraft and the heights you work at, but because you did this whilst simultaneously making high quality informative and entertaining content. Great to watch and a good job done on the project !
Tree is very important for life
That top handle husky is straight pissed 😤 it’s highly impressive!
Nice! Town I live at in Oregon has these monster Doug firs but in tiny back yards and I have to rig everything out 💪 climb high stay safe!
damn, that small saw is amazing, did some really quick work of that tree
1 million bro. Congrats
Awesome video 👍🏼
Great vid!
Very nice top out!
Smellavision would be awesome right now. I love the smell of pine.
I always love too see perfect cuts !
Looks like that could privide plenty of wood for building. I know fast growth wood isn't great quality, but still usable for some projects.
Vermeer has some good chippers and small stand up skid steers also
I've caught a lot of wooded in my time, but I've never climbed a tree to do it lol. You make it look easy brother.
You have the coolest play on words channel name!
Love the speed and handling of your small gas saw but I do like the small battery saw only for the sound or lack of when it is not running easier to hear but it what makes your work day goes easier and safer for your. Much love. Afriend.
@@GuiltyofTreeson........ if you get this, I appreciate the winning but truth has it, I'm to far down the road to need anything, it will do good in someone else's hands but thank again, much love. Afriend.
Had my eye on a 592 for a while. They are so nice. I still mourn the loss of the 2095 Turbo.
That was a cool double topping mate.
That saw SCREAMS!!!!👍🏻😀👍🏻
The Husqvarna!
The more i work with Stihls, the more i hate them. The more i work with huskies, the more i love them. I dont fan boy for brands, i just want what works and it seems like huskies are the way forward.
Edit: except the 500i, i like it a lot…..however, right now mines in the shop…again. To be fair though i think if it was just me using the saws they would hold up better but i work with adult children if that makes sense. Contract climbing seems like a better gig, i cant stand having to share equipment with people who dont care. You’re a great example of how skill and preparedness can make work such a joy, wish you were on my crew. God bless and stay safe brother
Good job Tazan!
Something about things falling that is so fascinating
Excellent video.
Bro you are fearless!!!
If I tried to do that I would be in a stage 2 coma
Guilty of Treeson - Highly Skilled Tree Man!
I miss being able to go up to the mountains and cut trees down with my dad. We just didn't have a place that had a wood burning stove to heat up the house but watching this I can still smell the wood getting cut and the chainsaw also.
You got balls kid! I'm shaking just watching this
That saw kicks so much ass you'll have to call it the Rim Reaper.
Had a tree that size an arms width from the house I bought. It would drop a limb on the roof every winter, always flat, until once the butt stuck through the roof. Lucky for me, it fell over and sealed the hole because there was nothing I could do with 6 inches of snow up there. Late spring of that year, we had it taken down. The crew was up for 9 hours because everything had to be roped down. After it was down we discovered that one big root had popped part of the foundation. The wall is still noticeably out of kilter.
you wouldn't get me up there in a million years, love watching you do it though !
"Alotta brush on this thing buddy" really is alot of material.
It's crazy when the branches are bigger than the trunk!🤣
I've had those webbings snap on before from long exposure to UV light and I've had stainless steel fittings
you make it look easy
Wish we had all those beautiful trees here in Western Australia...
Knocked that big thing out!! Great work
You should try the Reecoil Big Boss and full reach chainsaw lanyard. I love those, they work great with little saws and packing up your bucking saw.
