- In this video I'm going to show you how to rig & fish and Anchovy using a helmet or teaser head. In addition to tying up the rig the video also discusses leader lengths behind common flashers available in Canada and the United States.
If you can't finding Anchovy you can also use this method with small (approx 5-5 1/2") Sardines or Herring.

excellent set up and tutorial here.
Great video! I use this same method but with smelt instead of anchovy on Lake Superior. 4' leaders on 8" flashers and 6' leaders on 11' flashers on or near bottom has been a great lake trout setup. Another trick is to use a bobber stop to keep the tension instead of a toothpick. Tight lines!
Thanks for sharing your helpful tips. We hope to try the Anchovy rig this season thanks to the video. Nothing negative to say about it. Gave you a sub too.
Good luck! Feel free to let me know if you have any questions running Anchovy teaser heads.... happy to help 🎣🐟😎
Thanks for the video I am starting to look into using anchovies on lake Michigan and need all the help I can get.
Hey Marc,
Where are you buying you anchovies in Ontario? Can’t find them anywhere. Thanks in advance and love your videos.
I’ve been using the 5” Red Herring instead of Anchovy the last few years. Grimsby Tackle sells them.
Awesome thanks for sharing.
Thanks Marc for great info! Question, Can you use twinkies with these anchovie rigs or only with strips?
Yup… you can use Twinkie’s problem
Hey Marc. Just wondering, Ive used (by recommendation) beads when building an anchovy rigs, you didn't use beads or tube on this one, do you not recommend protection on this set up? I felt I was getting less hits when using the beads, but that was later in the season.
It’s a very good question... I’ve done it with tube and beads and personally I like the Anchovy rig clean... like you I felt like the beads and tube were causing less bites.
@@KingsLandingSportFishing Thanks Marc, I'll keep using a good quality lead line, I did use spider braid that held up for hard bites.
Do you buy anchovy online or local? Not sure they sell them here in the southern Ny tier
Hey Marc, thanks for the video! Do you run these clean behind a flasher, or have you tried twinkie rigs the same as a meat head rig?
I run them clean about 80% of the time. But I have used them with Twinkies.
i just watched and really learned alot from this video. where do i get the head to start with?

Hey Marc, are those Hotfish anchovy heads? If not, what brand do you recommend?
Hi Bob..
Hotfish doesn’t make an Anchovy head.. I use Rhys Davis & Lighthouse. Email me at kingslandingfishing@gmail.com if you need some and are in Canada.. I’ve got about a 1000 here.
do you have the recipe for your brined bait?

Checkout this video Eric!
😅😅😅lots of saliva OMG
Lol there's actually three types of toothpicks.....and there not created equal !
I fish off Vancouver island , the last 30 years . I see many flaws in your video . 1st off , use 4/0 Gamakatsu barbless for both hooks , 2nd , it's easier using the rounded anchovy teaser heads , 3rd barrel swivels are just fine . I've always used them with no problem.
Not sure I’d consider those items flaws... that’s more a difference of opinion.
You will recall in the video that I show a version which uses two 4/0 octopus style hooks which I also use myself. That said treble hooks are used far more on the Great Lakes vs 4/0 octopus.
As mentioned in the video and comments I fish Lake Ontario (Toronto) and we are not required to use barbless
As for barrel swivels we need to agree to disagree on that one 😉. Either way thanks for watching and your comment.... greetings from Toronto, it’s been a while since I was in Vancouver Island, beautiful place!
this video shows no flaws. vancouver island fishing is not lake ontario fishing. its called different techniques
