    Please don't sell this...put it in a box and store it away. If you're selling it to fund new gear, don't do it, find some other way to pay for it.
    After 40 years of playing with synths, bought/sold tons of gear, and some of them I regret selling even now, decades later.
    If you have a connection with something, which you obviously have with the Deepmind12(your patches are gorgeous), you will miss it.
    I still have my original Roland D50 and Ensoniq VFX-SD bought new in the late 80's. I still play them, and even record tracks with them sometimes.
    Trust me on this, you will regret selling it!
    Great video, thanks for sharing.

      I’m planning to refactor my whole setup to run through a high quality MIDI controller (Arturia KeyLab or similar), so I’d likely end up swapping out my DM12 for the desktop module if all goes well!

    • @richardhermans4457
      @richardhermans4457 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@jakubdomine While I use my hardware synths to play software VST's, I've never been able to make the same connection when using a midi-controller exclusively. I've used rack or desktop modules to replace the actual hardware synths I've had, and it doesn't feel the same to be, there's a disconnect.
      Once you've spent 3 years using the DM12 and the workflow, I think you might find using the desktop version differently.
      Just my personal experience, and over the years it's happened more than once.
      We are all different, and it may be fine for you.
      If possible before investing in a really good midi controller like the Arturia, Novation SL or Native Instruments version, get a cheap one and see how the workflow is for you before selling the DM12. Places like Sweetwater or Guitar Center will give you 30 days to return.
      Just my thoughts, good luck on whatever you choose to do.

    Such an amazing synth. I really hope Behringer does more of this style of building on top of classic synths, rather than just ripping them off (though I admit I own my share of their knockoffs).
    What is truly amazing about the Deepmind is that there isn't even an equal virtual instrument. You'd have to combine synths and and fx to get close, and it wouldn't be such a delight to program. Kinda wish the display was bigger, but then again, I don't really want to be looking at a display...

    a nice loveletter to a real sleeper synthesizer. my 12 was a deeply discounted thomann b-stock that arrived essentially new in 2019 and it's been a cornerstone of my synth tower since. while i struggled developing a workflow around the mod matrix and some other button combos, the deepmind is a sterling example of immediacy and flexibility and feels purpose-built for the studio, and as you've shown, dedication to understanding the controls unlocks everything. while it's not strictly a 106 clone, it does borrow a lot from that form factor, which pays huge dividends. in the (semi) modular world, the neutron is a similar concept - a fantastic and original design that punches way above its weight.

    • @apoclypse
      @apoclypse 11 месяцев назад +1

      I wish Behringer would have focused more on these kinds of synths versus clones. I would love to see the OS, screen and effects of the Deepmind married with the sound of a Prophet 5.

    • @jakubdomine
      @jakubdomine  11 месяцев назад

      It really strikes a balance between immediacy and depth. All the crucial 106 functionality is right there on the front panel, but if you want to go further it has all the features necessary to accommodate you.

Don’t use it as often as i used to due to buying a Prophet, but i still use it for specific pad sounds. Ive owned mine for 7years and I’ve had deep meditative drones, mellow Rhodes, ethereal breathey textures, gritty distorted basses, funky Wurlitzer piano’s, acidic bass sounds, orchestral strings and many unique flavours and textures you wouldn’t be able to achieve from a 106. Great video preview of the DeepMind 12! I'm really impressed with the sound possibilities. Quick question: how can I make a patch even louder when the VCA is already at its maximum (255)? Any tips or tricks would be much appreciated! :)

    • @jakubdomine
      @jakubdomine  6 месяцев назад

      Sure, there's a couple things you can do. First, the VCA edit menu has a parameter called "VCA Mode" that has 2 options: Transparent (the default) and Ballsy. Switching to Ballsy will give you some more loudness. If that's not enough, you can use the FX section to pick an effect that has an Output Gain option, like Enhancer or FairComp. These can give you a LOT more gain, but just make sure you've turned off everything else in the effect that might color the sound. For example, in the Enhancer you'll want to make sure Spread, BassGain, MidGain, and HiGain are all set to 0 before you turn up the OutGain for loudness. Hope that helps!

    I really like my deepmind, but it's not exactly beginner friendly in my opinion, even though the controls seem in line with what'd get on a Juno, you still need to perform some tricks to make it shine. With the Pro-800 now being available, I think it's a better choice as it's super immediate thanks to a mostly knob-per-function and quite traditional in terms of subtractive synthesis approach. It also sounds really great even without FX. The tradeoff - you need to have an external midi keyboard as it's a desktop module.
    That said, I have both and neither are going anywhere :)

    • @jakubdomine
      @jakubdomine  11 месяцев назад +3

      That’s a good point, the Pro 800 probably has an easier learning curve for true beginners who are trying to grasp fundamental subtractive synthesis concepts. I’d argue that the DM12 does more to introduce users to higher concepts (modulation matrices, different types of digital fx, etc.) without forcing them. I think it encourages more exploration and ultimately could push beginners a bit further in their synthesis journey than the Pro 800, at the expense of a slightly steeper learning curve up front. Would you say that’s a fair comparison?

      1) Square only on OSC1
      2) OSC2 at full volume, make sure sync is off and set it a few cents sharp or flat of OSC1
      3) Add a few cents of pitch mod to OSC2, make sure LFO1 is moving slowly
      4) Set your polyphony mode to Mono, set Env-Trigger to Retrig, and set Osc-drift to 15
      5) Close the filter and move the Env fader all the way up in the filter section
      6) VCA Env: Att=22, Dcy=128, Sus=255, Rel=128
      7) VCF Env: Att=0, Dcy=51, Sus=201, Rel=128
      8) Mod Env (Env3): Atk=0, Dcy=40, Sus=0, Rel=0
      9) In the mod matrix, map Env3 to OSC1 Pitch with a depth of +4
      At this point you’ve got the sound, but I’d probably add reverb/delay FX and map either the mod wheel or aftertouch to pitch mod to add some playable vibrato. Hope this helps!

      And at Nr 3 You wrote: make Shure LFO1 ist moving slowly.
      I have to use LFO 1?
      Pleased help me, I'm confused...

    • @jakubdomine

      Yep! Poly modes divide your polyphony by the number of unison voices per note. The DM12 is nice because you can explore those higher unison modes without restricting your playing much

    I have a love hate relationship with my DM12D,, never got the keys as the keybed was trash when it 1st came out.
    I use mine for an FX section or to broaden my pads from another synth.
    It barely ever gets showcased as a main synth as I have synth that cut through the mix better.
    It's not a bad synth, it's just a pita go get to the fx through menu diving.
    My Rev 2 module destroys it for UI.
    GL with your next synth, hope it's a good one.

    • @jakubdomine
      @jakubdomine  11 месяцев назад +1

      Did Behringer update the keybed between production runs? Mine feels like a pretty standard synth action with good build quality. Definitely agree that the FX section is clunky to use-the companion iPad/desktop app makes it 1000x easier.

    • @dankeplace
      @dankeplace 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@jakubdomine yeah they did, but the way they went around it, they had some shill on GS denying that there was any keybed issues, they were uneven and this was widely reported.
      My problem was solved easily with just getting the module.
      I could never get wifi to work with mine so I don't know if the IPAD app works. I follow instructions to a T but that was a few years ago so probably haven't tried since.

      @@jakubdomine sold mine a year ago along with the Hydrasynth.
      I wanted to upgrade to the Novation Summit
      I don't miss the Hydrasynth at all, sounded too digital, and hate digital wave tone.
      However, I've always missed the Deepmind 12, even with the Summit, which is an incredible synth.
      I dunno, for sound creation there's just something about the Deepmind 12, it's incredibly flexible, easy to use, you can go from subtle ambiant sounds to crazy modulation sweeps and amazing drones that constantly move in seconds.
      It's made me realise that selling it was a bad move. So...I just bought the Desktop version, and yeah...so glad I've got a Deepmind 12 back into the studio.
      As a Side note, the Super 6....I does suffer from Vioce stealing when creating sustained pads. It's very noticeable...just something to bear in mind.

      @@maydaygoingdown5602 that’s a good point, I’ve definitely been spoiled by the 12 voices on the DM. I’m a sucker for super wide stereo patches which is why the Super 6 is appealing to me-idk of another synth built around stereo width as a main feature. Alternatively I could wait and spend all my savings on the Super Gemini later this year….20 voices is pretty insane

    • @maydaygoingdown5602
      @maydaygoingdown5602 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@jakubdomine Yes you can get nice stereo spread out of the UDO 6.
      But you won't be able to create a pad patch like you are showing in your video on the DM12 due to noticeable vioce stealing when using sustained chords.
      I'll be selling the Udo 6 for the Gemini. It's the much better Poly synth of the two.
      I'm saying that, however I really want the Waldorf Quantum Mk2 more so might put the ££ towards that.
