Thanks for the good laugh I guess some of us older folks just take certain things for granted that we’ve all learned.
Yes. Common Sense is not very common.
Still ride my 83 FXWG, bought thru Military Sales while on USS Midway. I enjoy these uploads. But, I do know how to change my oil.
Thank you!
Glad you're liking the vids.
👍🏍👍
Entertainment and informative all in this video, good stuff to remember.
Glad you like the video! Thank you for commenting! MB
A lot of questions I see about TPMS are “I filled up my tire to recommended pressure but the light doesn’t go out”. A trick to fix that is overfill a couple of PSI to force the reset. You still have to ride it a little to get a fresh reading.
It won't reset itself while riding with it at the proper PSI?
@@DKCustomProducts in my experience sometimes not if it’s at exact recommended TP. Probably not the most accurate reading on these things and the computer wants to see a certain pressure point before resetting the warning light. After that the light will stay off even if it loses a couple lbs. It shouldn’t come on again until its 5lbs low or whatever triggers the warning again.
@@seniorp9444 Thank you for the info! Much appreciated.
Tyres pressure is often overlooked. Riding with my mates the other week and one was complaining about his bike in corners. I said when did you last check your tyre pressures. Long story short his front wheel pressure was 26 psi.
Yep, often overlooked. Yep, 26 psi in the front will be squirrely when turning.
Thanks guys.. I needed a good laugh.... I didn't realize that tire pressure went up when I ride my bike... and putting 7 quarts in the engine, without pulling the dipstick out to wipe it clean before you fill the crankcase. Christ. . Well one thing's for sure you guys will always have lots of work because, as long as the newbies keep buying, The newbies are gonna have to get it fixed a second time. Cheers from the Great White North 🇨🇦
Our pleasure, glad to hear you enjoyed the video! 👍😎👍
Don’t trust TPMS, purchase a good gauge and check TP before every ride, read your owners manual and purchase the shop manual if you do your own maintenance.
Great point! Thanks for sharing. 👍
Want to mention something on tire pressure. Just rewatched you video on tire pressure and is good. I use to always carry a little compressor that would connect to tender plug and had a nice digital gauge I knew was good. If saw someone with a tire that looked low, would check with them. Worst I ever saw was someone that had 8psi in front tire and 16psi on rear?? Was able to get it up to correct values with pump. Did that often with other riders. Unfortunately, pump and my jumper were stolen from saddle bag, so don't carry it. Another issue, is don't trust gas station gauges. They are often way off. Double check with a good gauge to confirm value. Also find many gas stations have out of order pumps... Have a 2013 sportster that doesn't have TPMS. Did buy one that hooks to phone, but haven't tested it out yet. Thanks for the videos..
Glad you're liking the videos. 👍
Thanks for the comment/tips/ideas. All great.
A few years ago I go a portable compressor that is USB rechargeable. I've used it many times, both for my bikes and others.

@@DKCustomProducts Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, went to link, and found that it can not ship to Guam, USA. Probable due to the lithium battery. About 5 years ago got a Lithium battery for my 2013 48. Went to 7 companies and none would ship it to Guam. Can't go by Air. USPS said, it could be shipped surface that generally takes 8 to 12 weeks to get to Guam, but no one would use that method? Had to have it shipped from JP Cycles to a friends company that ships item directly to Guam via ships. Since there ship comes straight from CA to Guam, it only took 10 days. USPS goes to Hawaii, and then reships again, and is low priority... Has been great battery. Original on from dealership only lasted 2 years and was more expensive.. Also 3lbs for Lithium versus 8lbs for Harley battery. Thanks again for the quick response. Should post a link to your tire pressure video for those that don't have TPMS...
Filling oil all the way to the top of the dipstick, then puking a half quart out the breathers, then thinking they are a half- quart low, so they fill it all the way up again, and the cycle repeats.
Yeah, and if they'd read their manual they'd save themselves time, oil and a mess.

yes, or read their manual.
A HD manual. Is needed always!
Agreed. If you're going to work on something, doing it without the manual is going into the job blind.
Suggestion for a future topic. How to find the best deals at a Harley dealer on bikes AND the best dealers to do business with. Thanks.
That is a moving target, as ownership and management changes, what might be great when a video is made may be horrible 2 months later, and vice versa.
I always know what I want, independent of any dealership input.
Then I arrange how I will pay for a bike.
Then I start calling dealerships within $250 one way flight area
Do they have the bike I am looking for
What is their out the door price.

The key is knowing exactly what you want and having the money or financing already lined up.

Duckwalkers abound. I know guys riding 150 hp street bikes who can't stay on a 30 hp dirt bike.
Yeah, crazy.
Here's a video where we touch on using the rear brake and the friction zone to ride instead of duckwalk.

Very enjoyable and fun to watch video.
Thank you very much!
I’ve seen people check their tire pressure in the middle of a ride, see 46 psi, and then let air out of a hot tire to drop down to 40 psi.
Not knowing what you don’t know can get you killed.
interesting. I am guess when they stop and the tire cools down and the PSI drops that they then add more air back in?
Hello Hoodie hope all is good.
Good information.

Weird question. I have a 22' Electra Glide w/ RDRS & ABS and all that good stuff. When I purchased the bike they told me the bike also has hill hold but for the life of me I cannot get it to turn on. Is there a trick to get it to turn on or do I need to bring the bike back to dealer to have it "activated" or something? Its not a necessity but I would like to use it if I have it.
To activate the Hill Hold, squeeze the front brake lever hard enough until you see the Hold light on your speedo. Same thing if you activate with your rear brake. It takes a determined squeeze but you won't break anything! One of my favorite features in hilly Seattle!
Thank you! 👍
If it does not work as outlined by Gary, read your manual. It is in there.
What Gary said. Additionally, you will feel the front lever vibrate slightly when it's activated (and the rear as well if you activate it that way--just not as noticeable to me), and it MUST be in gear. It will not activate in neutral.
Love the content! 👍
Glad to hear it! 😎👍
*Torque Cone Question!*
I’m putting Cobra 909 Speedster pipes on my sporty. Should I put my torque cones in those pipes too? They’re technically 2:2 pipes. It has uninsulated baffles and a “crossover port” between the pipes to act somewhat like a 2:1.
Any advice would be very appreciated
Thunder Torque Inserts™ (link below) will work well with that set up, giving you a nice bump in low and mid range power. They are mounted 1-2 inches from the exit of each pipe.
From all our testing, Torque Cones will not add any perceptible benefit.

I bought a new daymaker headlight for my 2020 ultra limited. The stock one is a piece of shit. So now it works real good but when I high the high beam, my security system red light comes on

Sounds like a wire might have gotten pinched, or possibly that headlight is not compatible with your BCM. Hard to know without the bike in front of us.

Hey Kevin, what brand of jeans are those your wearing?
They are kevlar lined jeans from Iron Workers. I also have some kevlar lined jeans from Sliders.
This very issue with tpms is why some car manufacturers have used nitrogen instead of air in tires. Nitrogen doesn’t fluctuate nearly as bad with temperature. Just ask any old dirt track racer.
Yes, much less variation from temps with nitrogen. I know a few guys that run nitrogen in their Harley tires.
Thank you for the comment. 👍
Good video... thanks :-)

So judging by the thumbnail are we also supposed to avoid leather fringe on our jackets, red bandanas, 3/4 helmets, and bin laden beard styles?
On youtube, I would not judge a book by its' cover. 😎👍
Will DK tank lift or floorboard extensions fit a 22 road king special?
Yes, they will both fit just fine. 👍
Useful yes.
Glad to hear that. 👍
I want to know why Harley has taken some things off the touring bikes. What happened to the fender tip lights? Also why do the fender badges look so cheap now?
When will Harley truly come out with the features that the other manufacturers have like Tom's being stock without RDRS, automatic locking bags on the touring models not just CVO. Electric adjustable windshield.
Please! These bikes are expensive enough!
@@thejerseyj5479 the fender tip lights were removed from the touring line around 2016. The fender badges went cheap looking when the M8 came out.
@Bob Greenwald the Goldwings, Yamaha Venture, and the new Indian Pursuit also have those features. The Yamaha has a factory 5 year warranty even.
Some like those features, and others do not. If you watch the video below, about why HD makes the bikes the way they do...plus add in that they are cutting costs (no heel shifter, only 1 FOB) it may make more sense.
ruclips.net/video/__NE6h1DhCg/видео.html
You might start your day out in the morning it’s 70°F, make sure my tires are at 40 lbs….. two hours later the ambient temperature goes up 20° and now your tires are over inflated, ride for another two hours and it’s now 100°F and your tires are now sitting at 57 pounds. Park your bike at a motel at a relatively high elevation and check it in the morning and it’s at 34 pounds under inflated. So what do you do? Wait till 8 o’clock in the morning before you ride so you don’t have to air up your tires again? This is one thing that’s funny really if you think about it.
So what I’ve chosen to do is make sure I’ve got my 40 pounds before I takeoff and forget the rest unless of course you find yourself with a flat tire. Way too many variables.
It is not that complicated. It is covered in the video you commented on, and it is also covered in this video link, in a bit more detail- ruclips.net/video/DrLXIhM-eXU/видео.html
Set the tire at the correct PSI when cold (has not been ridden in a few hours). Yes, the PSI will go up and down based on ambient temps, riding load and speed, and elevation. The tire manufacturers know that and build the tires with those factors in mind. If you have the PSI at the right number when "cold", everything else that effects it, you don't need to worry about.
Some guys run nitrogen in their tires instead of air, because nitrogen does not vary as much as air does with varying circumstances.
@@DKCustomProducts I think you missed my point entirely. If you look at the last line, we both come to the same exact conclusion.
👍😎👍
Thanks guys ,,,,,-!!,,,,,,☆☆☆☆

OMG the wrong Oil hole is Terrible ....Gotta Know or Don't Go
Yep, and even if you don't know, read the manual that came with your bike from the factory. 👍
I run 10% higher tire pressure on my street bikes to help them to keep from squareing off most of them bike tires are at their max load rating of 800 pounds
So, with you and passenger on the bike you are at 1600 pounds? That is what 800 pounds per tire would be.
I have heard of folks doing that...in fact, in the video Hoodie mentioned that he runs his rear a bit higher.
@@Dave-sw2dm my front wheel in hardly ever on the ground,,NO chicken strips on my bikes..PEACE
@@MeanOldBastardBikerBob LOL!
How come nitrogen isn't used more often for motorcycle tires?
Dunno.
I know of a few guys that run it.
Because there is very little benefit.
I love that my bike doesn't have any riding monitoring system, doesn't have a nav system to distract me, doesn't have a radio to fail on me, just has ABS brakes, doesn't have linkage brakes, more bullshit technology mistreats the rider- H-D is too in be with the federal government and like the government it has learned to mistreat its customers
No doubt, a simple motorcycle is the purest experience.
@@DKCustomProducts yeah all of this technology in motorcycles i believe harley is missing the point why people ride is to escape the 'connectivity' and BS external noise of daily life....
dont work on your bike if you dont know what you are doing....
Don’t buy a Harley if you have to rely on the dealership for everything. Paying a master mechanic rate to change fluids or tires is ridiculous.
Absolutely. You want the bike to be in good running order while going down the road on 2 or 3 wheels, surrounded by cagers.
Everyone has different needs, abilities and priorities. For some, the lack of time, and/or abundance of $, combined with the joy of riding is something they want bad enough to be willing to pay a competent mechanic to maintain their ride.
Different strokes for different folks.
@@DKCustomProducts , but only in the motorcycle world does labor cost more than materials to have oil changes or tires done. Master techs should be reserved for major repairs and the hourly rates should reflect the skill level required . I was raised by a DIY Dad for everything that was legal to do yourself. I do understand the time issue, because many that can afford a 30,000 toy are working too much to maintain themselves, but they also probably barely ride so a yearly service isn't a stretch.
@@Dave-sw2dm doing maintenance is a great way to keep you in tune with your bike and save money. I suggest purchasing a service manual. well worth it. also youtube has many videos that can help you greatly. bottom line is do your research before you take your bike apart.
Yeah, yeah. Sounds like the HD TPMS is just so so privative. Charge an arm and a leg for it but just monitors tyre pressure every 4 hours, what a joke! Just like when it went to fuel injection, every other bike manufacture just required a new chip to be inserted to manage performance upgrades, but not Harley Davidson, you had to replace the entire ECU on a 1996 HD tourer if you did a Stage 2. So much for being a premium brand.
Every 4 hours with the engine off. And you are talking about the Mareli FI? from 1998?
As Bruce pointed out, it sends every 4 hours when the bike is sitting still. When it is going down the road it is constantly updating, and it is actually quite sophisticated, as it will learn your preferences and adjust for them and the ambient temps. This is talked about, beginning at the 2:54 mark in the video.
Yeah, when HD was playing around, in the beginning, with EFI, they used a very clunky Magneti Marelli system for a few years...but only on a few bikes. Back then the majority were carbed. Then they went to a Delphi system without o2 sensors, but that was also on very few bikes, most were still carbed.
When they went to all EFI with Delphi in 2006 on Dyna's and all the rest in 2007, they had it dialed in pretty good.
Buy a service manual
Or don’t work on it
Solid Advice. 👍
I agree have one for my 16 but most of the simple things are on utube or Google or just common sense $140 bucks is ridiculous

Tire monitoring systems don't take the place of a tire Guage.
What is the purpose of a TPMS then?
@@DKCustomProducts it's to alert you of a tire problem before it becomes a life threatening issue so you can head off total failure
@@davidcorman5788 They certainly can do that in case of a slow, or moderately fast leak. But they also give actual tire PSI, so why not use that instead of a guge, unless you don't trust it?

@@frankfurther3828 Yes, lotta truth there.
Hoodie?!?! Are you the same Hoodie that took care of me at Queen City HD a few years ago? I don't agree with the statement that tire pressure changes with altitude. Unlike temperature, changes in ambient air pressure won't have an appreciable effect on tire pressure.
I let Hoodie answer if he is that guy.
Regarding PSI and elevation, every 5000 feet elevation change will change tire pressure by 2-3 psi. Not only does every tire company have that if you do a search, but that is what I have observed riding mountain passes...that is in addition to the psi increase from tires warming up from riding.
@@DKCustomProducts I think we may be talking about different things here. Notwithstanding tire pressure changes due to temperature (both ambient and the tire itself), the pressure doesn't change with elevation, but the indicated measurement might change since the measurement is based on the delta between ambient and the tire. In other words, measuring a tire pressure of 40 psi at sea level means the absolute tire pressure value is 54.7 psi minus ambient air pressure of 14.7 psi. At 10,000 feet, ambient is only 10.1 psi, even though the absolute value of the tire pressure is still 54.7 psi (if no other factors such as temperature affect the measurement), so the gage would read 44.6 psi instead of 40 psi. I don't know that TPMS sensors account for decreased ambient pressure, or that the bike has an ambient pressure sensor (or brains to calculate the difference), but if you manually measure your tire pressures with a good tire gage then you WILL see a difference in measured tire pressure for the reasons I just stated.
@@rickharris323 Understood, and agreed. But how many are going to read and understand that. They are going to look at the PSI at higher elevations and see that it is higher on the gauge or the TPMS.
Yep..... that's me
