I was looking for a 2022 Road Glide ST. A New York City dealer offered one at $8K over MSRP. I mentioned that the MSRP was cheaper but the salesman said they are selling at DSRP (dealer suggested retail price). I said that was nuts but he said people were lining up for the bike. I hunted around and found another dealer in a nearby suburb who gladly sold me the bike at MSRP. Point is to shop around and give your business to dealerships who treat you fairly.

@@johnhowarth8367 Crystal River Harley has a Low rider ST in stock. They've added a saddleman seat and the amp speaker set. They want 34K plus dealer fees and tax and tag. That's about 12K over list! Most of those Low Rider ST's have been pre-sold. But 12K over list is why it's sitting in the showroom.

    • @thelevelrider64
      @thelevelrider64 2 года назад

Not really. They're not GETTING inventory to stack up. That's what's driving the prices up... lack of supply. HD is shorting the market, whether it's due to parts shortages, or intentionally, as some would have us believe. If you want to show your disapproval, your only REAL option is to buy another brand! However, you're going to discover that ALL the bike dealers' showrooms are half empty, due to supply chain issues with regard to parts... especially computer chips. One inside source tells me that a particular company has TWO WAREHOUSES filled with a particular model of bike I am interested in, each bike waiting for ONE computer chip to be shippable...

      In 1993 I bought a FXRS-CONV with 1,500 km (900 mi) on the odometer.
      The bike cost $15,000.00 cdn.
The original owner wanted something bigger and had returned it to the dealer in Peterborough Ontario.
I paid exactly the same price as it was with 0 km on it.
The only thing I got was a cover and I didn't have to pay sales tax as the bike was still in the original owners name.
There was absolutely no room to negotiate, basically I was told to take it or leave it.
Buyers were lining up to get Harleys back then as well.
In 2011 I got the deal of a lifetime in Kijiji.
A 2010 FLHTC ABS, high end security, ,cruise 6,000 km (3,600 mi) on it.
I drove all night 500 miles from Toronto to Montreal.
I was the first one there which I didn't know at the time.
He wanted $17,500.00, he needed money.
I tried to negotiate, unsuccessfully, it was to good of a deal. I bought the bike on the spot.
Five years later they were still asking $17,000.00 for the same bike.
I still own both of these motorcycles.

So when buying a bike or car (or anything really). People are always afraid to tell the salesman that they like that one. The trick is to ALWAYS tell him you like it. In fact reiterate the fact. I love this one. Take up as much of his time as you can. Seriously. Then tell him again how much you like that one. Then you break it to him, that you just don't want to pay that much. They crap their pants. They've spent all this time with you. They can't just let you walk out. They are super stressed at that point. They'll call a manager over, and he'll call his manager over. As long as you have the means to pay for it (credit or whatever) They'll bend over backwards to sell you that bike. And if they don't, you let them know that you're going to go to another Harley dealership, and you'll be back. They love to hear "I'll be back" haha. It works everytime

During the 90's when everyone was waiting endless months for a new bike, F&S HD in Dayton Ohio, sold bikes at msrp. In fact I bought a new 1996 RK Police , no wait, for 2000 under the price of a new Road King from F&S. I used the police bikes for Funeral Escort and as a bonus, when it needed service F&S put the police bikes to the front of the line in the service departments. Even after all of that, HD wanted F&S to 'upgrade' their mom and pop shop to their new 'castle' look. That is when F&S sold the dealership, for not wanting to go that route. F&S still has a shop but they mainly are a used bike and parts operation now.

He said he wish HD would stop putting those prices on the bikes. I even tried to make a trade with my 2010 Heritage which was one great bike. The dealer said he would not move off his price and gave me less than fair price for my Heritage. Either make the purchase of don't. I called two other dealers and both of them were in the same ball park. Yes, you get F... ked by the dealer. The ball is in their court if you want a new or used bike. I've only been riding for three years. My first and only motorcycle was a HD. It just stranded me in the desert for the third time. I had it towed to the local HD dealership for service and told the service guy I'd been standing around in the desert in 103°F for almost two hours waiting for the tow truck. When I asked for a bottle of water I was pointed at the vending machine in the customer lounge that wanted $1 for a 25¢ bottle of Costco water. When I stuck my dollar in the machine it told me "sorry, make another selection." I decided right then and there to buy a new bike and I didn't even consider a Harley. I didn't even wander around the show room floor and sit on a couple of bikes while waiting on my wife to pick me up. Their high prices, poor customer service, and the fact that I can't depend on my bike to get me to work let alone through a weekend trip to the beach has driven their key demographic to a competing brand.

I'll advise Harley to add you to the ''maybe'' list for a 2022 CVO 🤣

Paid 5K over msrp for my street glide special 2022. I felt ripped off after few days 😂. I live in Albuquerque so I don’t have a lot of option. But I will never pay over msrp anymore.
