I had the same expectations as Carson when I started watching this. Ended up loving it. Well made and wacky show that allows some moments to actually hit hard. So good.
Garp's hat looks more like a dog that opens his mouth in the manga/anime. There is a RL reason why he wears it: It shall hide his face enough so you can't recognize the character design. Japanese viewers knew it from one of the two One Piece prototype mangas where this man was already Luffy's grandfather but had the role of Shanks. The live action didn't need to hide the face so it had a little fun with the dog hat. It also clearly shows you that Garp isn't really your usual marine if he decides to wear something like this in his position.
The actors are all pretty unknown. But I'm certain they will be known after this. I'm sure Netflix was pushing for some big name actors to be in this, but Eiichiro Oda insisted on finding the right people to play the parts, and that was the right thing to do. If nothing else, these actors are going to feel grateful at getting their first big break, and take the job very seriously.
Let me explain the hat that Garp wears: In the first Romance Dawn, the prototype chapter for One Piece that Oda wrote, Garp was the one who gave Luffy his Strawhat. Oda hasn’t changed the design for Garp AT ALL and so when Garp was introduced in the manga proper, he was wearing a hat that obscured his face. Oda made that decision so that fans wouldn’t know that it was Luffy‘s grandfather until he reveal it in the chapter 300s. It was a hat of a dog similar to the one he’s wearing in the LA. After it was revealed that he’s his grandfather, he never wore that hat again. Also: the design is because HE’S THAT DOG.
@@yudhazacharias9377 The line from the live action from Makino at the bar to little Luffy is “once you eat a devil fruit Mother Ocean turns her back on you and you become unable to swim” There have been instances in the manga with Fishman that have eaten a devil fruit. I think the biggest problem for the One Piece anime isn't the story or length (1000+ eps, but definitely a part of it), it's the Pacing in the episodes. It's not too bad early in the show, but it becomes pretty annoying later on.

And Sanji's character Taz spent HUGE time learning his role as a fighter AND a cook. They seriously killed the casting. Like you dont know because you haven't seen the anime, but the SIDE characters look and act their part. The BACKGROUND characters look and act their part. Hands down this is the best live action/tv series/non-anime I've ever seen in my life. I couldn't put anything up to it to compete. Not only did they make it true to the fans, but they also nailed it as a 'season 1' of some new tv show with brand new fans coming together in awe of how damn good they put this season together. Glad you guys been liking this because the more attention this show gets, the more likely they are for doing a full 12 seasons, is what they were talking about. Seriously, one piece in live action hitting this hard is literally a dream come true, glad you guys and everyone are enjoying it. Loved the reaction/discussion as always! 💜 So glad you guys are enjoying this 🤩 I think when people said you guys might not enjoy this they're talking about the pacing mostly I enjoyed One Piece from the first episode and didn't mind the pace it was going, but it is a criticism one can make And when I started One Piece it was in 2004 so I think I was about 200 episodes behind? So not as far behind as one would be now currently It's just a story that means a lot, and so I swing between recommending One Piece and saying that people wouldn't like it because it would literally crush me for people to only watch One Piece for a couple of episodes and then drop it because they say 'it's slow and I know that it's over 1000 episodes so if I don't like it now, I won't like it in X more episodes' 😭 I have never cried harder at a fictional story like I have watching/reading One Piece So I love that you guys are enjoying the live action and can't wait until you watch the anime 😃
The plot of One Piece is very deep... I got introduced to One Piece because of the Live Action and I'm currently at episode 743. Hundreds of episodes later, still no one knows what the One Piece is(though it is confirmed by the author that it really exist). The Live action did not copy paste the manga or the anime(1:1) but still stayed true to the source material(for season 1). One major changed they made though is Garp... Once you watch the anime you'll understand why.
There are also a lot of DBZ & Boruto's-Dad fans who notoriously hate on One Piece without really giving it a shot. Now the Live Action is getting their own families into One Piece before either Dragon Ball or Naruto.
13:13 Girl on the left "What is the wrong with this man!?!" Dude on the right: "He's a chad!!" I like the contrast in opinions lol. 14:15 Oh let's say... Moe. That's a Simpsons reference if you don't know.
I think its also a point there. He did not stubbornly hold on and eat his leg because he wanted to survive. He did not put money into the stock of his own life. No the boss of a man stayed alive, starving, only eating his own leg... Because he needed to scout for a ship so Sanji could be saved. He may not even have survived if he took the food himself and was alone. For he would probably not have had that drive.
You guys should check how the Anime did Arlong Park to know if you are going to like One Piece. It improves a lot more later of course but it got some really good moments and the story, well, it's just great.
Live action one piece have them hooked all thanks to og source material. one piece has one of the best story telling, world building and character development and they even make you emotional about side character....
The live action really did not depict this very well, its best not to explain things without context to the series. Once they watch the arlong park in the anime, then i think they will understand this alot more.
I've been watching/supporting "one piece" for long enough. this live action is it own world. In between manga and anime. Like the anime special One piece Romance dawn. Manga is the best for me, and I'm pretty sure everyone would agree with me. There's a reason why One Piece Manga is the biggest selling manga/comics of all time beating Spiderman and batman.
Garp's Hat. In the one-shot of the manga, called Romance Dawn, proto-Garp's relationship with was revealed. To hide that in the manga run (and later anime) he was given the hat that cast shade on his face. Garp was revealed as Luffy's Grandfather in the anime episode 315ish and 430ish manga chapter.
Leorio is strong/cool in the 1999 anime & in the manga. The 2011 anime leaned hard on him being more of the Usopp rather than the Sanji, sans their better qualities
I like the sibling energy u guys have. Nami did indeed worked for Arlong🤣 also Sanji’s backstory is a real waterwork out there. But Nami’s backstory made me cried harder.
I Grew up watching One Piece and we do not expect the live-action to be like anime but the show was a true success, the acting... I was genuinely surprised, you can be more addicted to this SAGA than many one-piece fans nevertheless I feel it will be a long long journey the storytelling of OP is so ......impressible and unpredictable.
My favorite part of your reaction was asking how Buggy's ears still worked. Not thinking about the fact that hes a disembodied head who should technically have no bloodflow from his heart.
It's interesting you mention thing about your peops saying they thought you'd hate it and that you're normally more critical in your reaction. It's funny cause I'm sooooo glad you didn't just do a bunch of critical/cynical reactions to the show. It's already enjoyable seeing people enjoy the same things I like, but one of the other things I've enjoyed seeing while watching your reactions is how you guys have warmed up to this show more and more with every episode. The very first episode you guys were definitely way more critical, but I feel like in the gap of time before watching the episode 2, you guys must have been like talking about it and how much you were starting to like it. It became apparent that you were already getting hyped in episode 2 and 3, and then to see you guys warm up even more and then be touched by the emotional stuff has been really cool. Like you both, I had only some familiarity with the manga/anime (even less tbh), and I didn't really know what to expect from this show, but after watching all of it I'm sold. It's so solid on so many levels. It's easily one of my favorite shows in a long time and I love seeing other people loving it too!
17:20 No. Arlong, the host and the two others who arrived with Arlong - they're fishermen. That's why even though Arlong can't hide his contempt for the host willingly working for humans, he won't physically hurt him. Humans on the other hand.....
I think people are more worried about pacing issues for one piece, than not enjoying the story. I'm glad you're liking the live action so much though and I'm looking forward to the anime reactions!
Sanji confronted Zeff on the 70th day. They we're rescued on the 85th day. What did Sanji eat for 15 days? How did he not starve? When Zeff told Sanji: "I'm going to need you to live." What do you think he meant?
Americans and Aussies call it eggplant because of its shape. Brits still refer to it by its original French name which is called Aubergine. So it to do with food.
i really want you guys to watch the anime.. yes it's really long and the fights stretches even longer.. but still meaningful.. lots of things are missed.. like the relation between Sanji and his co workers, about ussop lifestyle with his 3 friends who are kids.. How koby joined marine.. hatchi which you will not see in future episode.. Dog name shushu or chouchou, his backstory of waiting for his master in Buggy's episode.. infact we knew nothing about Garp until enies lobby which is consider as the best or one of the best arc
This is the only real reason Garp comes in so much later in the story than in the LA. If he was more actively in the East Blue he would have wrecked Arlong before Luffy even knew he existed.

I enjoyed One Piece from the first episode and didn't mind the pace it was going, but it is a criticism one can make
And when I started One Piece it was in 2004 so I think I was about 200 episodes behind? So not as far behind as one would be now currently
It's just a story that means a lot, and so I swing between recommending One Piece and saying that people wouldn't like it
because it would literally crush me for people to only watch One Piece for a couple of episodes and then drop it because they say
'it's slow and I know that it's over 1000 episodes so if I don't like it now, I won't like it in X more episodes' 😭
I have never cried harder at a fictional story like I have watching/reading One Piece
So I love that you guys are enjoying the live action and can't wait until you watch the anime 😃
This anime will make you cry over a boat its just goated
Eggplant is the American name for Aubergine.
Reminder that devil fruits make you unable to swim. Arlong can’t be a devil fruit eater because he can swim.
This is actually false, but i don't want to get into that, they will eventually find out them selfs.
@@Artimes.
What part of what i said is wrong bro?
what figure is that 2nd row first column in the back shelf? is that a mokoko seed?
There are also a lot of DBZ & Boruto's-Dad fans who notoriously hate on One Piece without really giving it a shot. Now the Live Action is getting their own families into One Piece before either Dragon Ball or Naruto.
Shonen wars lmao
13:13 Girl on the left "What is the wrong with this man!?!" Dude on the right: "He's a chad!!" I like the contrast in opinions lol.
14:15 Oh let's say... Moe. That's a Simpsons reference if you don't know.
I fucking love it. "This show is so god damn good" is what one piece fans have been saying for 20+ years. No one listened though. lmfao
"He has this crazy back story."(Talking about Sanji.) You sweet sweet Summer child! You really need to read the manga/watch the anime.
Can’t wait for the next two episodes
One thing about fishmen they would be nerfed if they had a devilfruit because they’re really good swimmers but devilfruits make it so you can’t swim
2:24 man i fu**ing love lindsay
I love the fact that we saw Zeff eating leg thing even more realistic then in manga.
Baratie is so goated
16:55 "He has devil fruit powers" While swimming in the sea?? 😂
Garp is one confusing character I’ll give u that one😂
Leorio is strong/cool in the 1999 anime & in the manga. The 2011 anime leaned hard on him being more of the Usopp rather than the Sanji, sans their better qualities
I like the sibling energy u guys have. Nami did indeed worked for Arlong🤣 also Sanji’s backstory is a real waterwork out there. But Nami’s backstory made me cried harder.
I Grew up watching One Piece and we do not expect the live-action to be like anime
but the show was a true success, the acting... I was genuinely surprised, you can be more addicted to this SAGA than many one-piece fans nevertheless I feel it will be a long long journey the storytelling of OP is so ......impressible and unpredictable.
Up to this moment, what is your impression of One Piece series, or is it still too early to give an opinion?
Sanji has always been my favorite character
Great reaction!
Carlson's "fake laugh" 😂😂😂😂😂😂
My favorite part of your reaction was asking how Buggy's ears still worked. Not thinking about the fact that hes a disembodied head who should technically have no bloodflow from his heart.
Garps hat much like most of the costumes, is one to one with the anime.

Welcome aboard
Sanji confronted Zeff on the 70th day. They we're rescued on the 85th day.
What did Sanji eat for 15 days? How did he not starve?
When Zeff told Sanji: "I'm going to need you to live." What do you think he meant?
Americans and Aussies call it eggplant because of its shape. Brits still refer to it by its original French name which is called Aubergine. So it to do with food.
I know most of the people get hooked in arlong park but it was baratie that made me fall in love with this anime❤
❤thanks for your work
"what's little eggplan" boy you should try to broaden more on your vegetable dish. xD
i really want you guys to watch the anime.. yes it's really long and the fights stretches even longer.. but still meaningful.. lots of things are missed.. like the relation between Sanji and his co workers, about ussop lifestyle with his 3 friends who are kids.. How koby joined marine.. hatchi which you will not see in future episode.. Dog name shushu or chouchou, his backstory of waiting for his master in Buggy's episode.. infact we knew nothing about Garp until enies lobby which is consider as the best or one of the best arc
The anime will send you into depression episodes, dont get spoiled tho!
I'm pretty sure Arlong's crew just left Buggy's head in the restaurant.
This is the only real reason Garp comes in so much later in the story than in the LA. If he was more actively in the East Blue he would have wrecked Arlong before Luffy even knew he existed.
Bro the mirelurk reference 🤣
After you finish the live action, are you going to react to the anime next?
Thats Garp the DOG!
Can’t wait for you to start the anime
Lol don’t know if you know this already but the garp hat is pretty accurate to the anime
🧍🏾♀️those homie on the right not know what an eggplant is ? Or is he confused on it being used as a term of endearment
I'm pretty sure they say "aubergine" instead of "eggplant"
@@jordanmarcial3670 ohhh that makes sense, my family calls them Balanjay
Can’t swim if you have devil fruit power. Not everyone you see has devil powers some are just strong af.
Shidiots is my new favorite insult.
Devil Fruits main weakness is water so even if Arlong had a devil fruit he wouldn't be able to swim
Fishmen are a separate species
For context, fishmen and mermaids are often captured and sold into slavery.
Ohh.. Garp doesn't show up in the manga until way later. The show made so much changes.
