About the Rules considering Water: The live action actualy did it well, the confusion for new one piece fans is, that there is actualy two set of rules aplied in season 1. Rule 1: Devil fruit eaters are losing their strenght if the get submerged into water. Rul2 2: Fishman have a ability to use water drops as a powerfull atack. The live action shows both, but only explains the first.
Yeah it totally came off as the sea water being the thing that hurt luffy. Although I wish they had said with words that it took submerging. Buggy says instead "all it takes is a few splashes" which is true in some senses and false in others. Maybe if he had said "all it takes is a few inches".
Maan I don't wanna get my hopes up because I understand the commitment to 1000+ episodes but this setup would be SUPER FRICKEN COOL for late game One Piece theory discussions/predictions. Hell not even late game, 100+ in and you'll have a lot to talk about! Really dope setup! Gonna watch this and try to not comment on too many things lol (I failed) The manga is not afraid to briefly show things and not explain them early on. It wants you to ask questions. Tho I do think the Live Action could have emphasized the water rule for Devil Fruit eaters a bit more clearly. This criticism is very valid, and I think the anime does a better job of helping you know what the right questions to ask are The political marine vs pirate stuff they brought into the LA here with Garp and Koby was really smart. That sort of stuff is part of what makes One Piece so good. Characters walking the blurred lines of morality, justice and duty. It will be interesting to see how you find the anime without the Garp stuff being there, but at the same time, because you've seen the Live Action and have the knowledge of Marines like Garp existing, that alone will enhance your experience of the East Blue saga in the anime. I'm glad they brought that stuff forward because the start would likely feel a bit flatter without it. Nami is not Sakura 🙃 Other than going overboard with boobies halfway into the series, the female cast in OP is great. They are full characters that don't just exist to shout the MCs name or get kidnapped. Main characters like Nami don't necessarily get side-lined, but not every character in the crew is always centre stage. Main characters that sit in the background at times are never left there to the point that they feel forgotten or replaced. Oda loves his main characters Don't talk shit about my boy Buggy 🤡 🤣 East Blue saga is very much the introduction for One Piece. Like an origins story. Season 2 of the LA will deal with the first major arc of the story. I can't freaking wait for that. Everyone says the start of One Piece is the slowest/weakest part of the story and yet they did it so well in the LA. If the LA follows the trajectory of OP and improves as much as the manga does from this point... This shit is gonna be ridiculously good My overall take is that the Live Action improved the worst parts of the East Blue Saga, but it made the best parts a bit worse since they didn't have time to add the depth that the anime/manga gives. The LA did an exceptional job of condensing things without compromising too much depth, but it definitely compromised a lot in certain areas. I think you'll find the anime worse in some ways, and better in others. Very interested to see how you go!
One thing I'll recommend since you guys are going the anime route is when you're further along read some cover stories which are little stories at the beginning of certain chapters that show what other characters are doing after the strawhats are gone it will help with hoping some side characters aren't shafted
God I am SOOO GRATEFUL that they made this Live Action adaptation a reality. This is absolutely (almost) everything I could've dreamed of happening per the reception, all-around
all strawhats are important. Nami is needed and has some amazing character growth. Every arc a couple strawhats get to shine and than the next arc after that, the ones that didn't shine have there shot. 55:31 Yeah, Nami is essential. Strawhats are all main characters. None are greater than the other. you;re in for a treat :)
The thing about one piece is they were each given roles to play. Like nami is a navigator and she is amazing at that. There are so many scenes that shows how she is important to the crew. Yeah, she didnt have much badass fight but thats not her role and she is not a fighter. The fact that she even fight a bit is already a plus point. Meanwhile for sakura, she is a ninja, so being good at fighting is important, thats why a lot of naruto fan werent satisfied with her.
In the anime or manga it's clarified everytime seawater is used to weaken devil fruit users and the two examples you got confused by would be show-specific issues. Buggies fight didn't even have that aspect to it so they didn't even go into explaining half-measures like being splashed and arlong splashing luffy was spefically a demonstration of fishmans strength making "splashing water" into an actual attack by sheer force instead of anything related to the weakening.
It's a case of viewers falsely assuming things to be uniformly applied across the board. Buggy getting drenched from a tank of water versus Luffy getting hit by a Fishman directly hitting him with water (and getting blown away by it) are clearly two different things. It's the same problem with assuming that Shanks and Garp have devil fruits when that need not be just because they are powerful. Why assume the world has only one form of magic or powers?
Yeah I think that in the show they didn't convey good enough how Arlong (and the Fishmen) are much STRONGER inside the water, o with the water. Arlong's was supposed to be a powerful attack and that's it, but a lot of people thought that the water weakened Luffy. Plus I think that someone gave him bad informations, because some of the things he said "somebody told him" were plain wrong xD. Like it's NOT true that only devil fruit users shout their attack names, even Zoro does it.
It's a big story, I am barely halfway way through it myself, but readers really do like these characters. It also, not spoil things, will make most of us revisit and reexamine our opinions about all these characters from time to time
You know, this is a cool concept and really backs your patrons for donating to you. It's good to see that you're giving back to your patrons instead of just releasing content early. A lot of people will just give patreon followers early access or full episodes, but to see that you're allowing them to dictate where your conversation goes to an extent and kind of let you get small hints (maybe, haven't seen the full video but I assume that'd be where people go with it). That's cool. I like this haha
Every arc 2 or 3 of the straw hats will always have pivotal moments. If they are pushed to the side lines it is only for a short while. Trust me they have a lot of development and continue to develop.
actually first time ive heard the water weaken devil fruit complaint. Its not used enough or in weird ways in the manga/anime to be even debated. Thats why no one has a answer for how it truly works lol.
How it truly works in the manga: if you're mostly submerged in any water, you lose strength. If you're splashed with water, you don't care If you touch seastone, it acts as if you were submerged. That's all
well that and they gave buggy a line that confused people because they thought he was speaing literally rather than just making a blitche, exagerrated joke to mock luffy, and the live action not having a dedicated exposition scene about fishman powers unlike the anime where arlong explains consisely what a fishman cna do that a human can't.
Regarding your discussion of classic Shonen protagonists around 5:30, I feel like it's incomplete without bringing up Journey to the West. In some sense every Shonen protag is really Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, possibly with some traits of other JttW characters mixed in, such as Zhu Bajie's (aka 'Piggy') trait of being a big eater. Some authors put in an explicit JttW reference, such as 'Son Goku' just being the Japanese pronunciation of 'Sun Wukong', or Luffy's surname being Monkey. What's interesting here is that the original Sun Wukong is rather amoral, but is held in check by the monk Xuanzang. That's because in the original JttW, the entire traveling party is a metaphor for a single person: in Freudian terms, Zhu Bajie is the id, Sun Wukong is the ego, Xuanzang is the superego. This explains why their traits are often mixed together in derivative works like Dragon Ball and One Piece. The point I'm making is that One Piece breaks from the trend of having the Sun Wukong analogue inherit Xuanzang's morality along with Zhu Bajie's appetite. Luffy's not a hero, he's a pirate, although he's a different kind of pirate from usual. One more thing: Sun Wukong's signature weapon is his size-changing staff, which in One Piece is given to Nami. In fact, there's one more ability of his that Nami has something similar to, but that won't come up until Season 2 so I won't spoil it.
Whether someone has a devil fruit was a bit unclear, but there were no inconsistencies with the rules. Regarding the water vs Buggy thing, did you miss the scene where Luffy throws up the map after the tank breaks? Both he and Buggy are crawling on the ground in that scene. Luffy goes for his hat while Buggy goes for the map. That scene was put there to show how much Luffy values the hat, but it also clearly shows how Buggy is also weakened by the seawater or else he'd just launch a hand to grab it or even just get up and run. Then Buggy starts doing his splitting thing, but Luffy is shown doing his rubber punch not long after, so obviously they both recovered.
Hi love the discussion. @20:30 One Piece has sold the most manga by far. There are times when one piece won’t sell the most in a year but it has sold over 500 million copies while Attack on Titan has sold 120 million. While one piece is very popular in Japan there are many places in the west that love one piece (France super loves one piece). I’m excited for you all to watch the anime 🎉
Not to be that guy but it's kinda pointless to compare a manga with 1090 chapters with another one having 139 chapters and then to boast that it has significantly more sales
@@luceafarul5740that’s true that’s true so we should look at sales per volume. One piece blows attack on Titan out of the water there as well. The only manga that have more per volume is demon slayer, dragon ball, and slam dunk. One piece is by far the biggest manga and it’s not close
It’s funny you say that the Marine subplot adds so much to the story when a common criticism is that the subplot takes away from Sanji and Usopp who probably needed that screen time more or for the series to have 10 episodes instead of 8.
@@amuro9624 I disagree but I understand why you’d think that. For many it’s good to have an overarching throughline like that and for many stories that tends to be good to have that type of constant pressure. From my perspective it’s sort of intrusive and I feel like if the trade off to that overarching narrative was taking away key moments of development for characters then maybe a slightly different path could’ve been taken. Like, we lost something as pivotal as Sanji watching Zoro fighting Mihawk which was an instrumental moment for Sanji seeing someone sacrifice for their dream in a way he previously didn’t. And every reaction I’ve been scouring the web so far has questioned Usopp’s worth and reasons for joining the crew because his episodes didn’t make a strong enough case for his abilities or desires. Like, I don’t totally begrudge the marine subplot, I think adapting the KobyMeppo diary was a good call, and those sets are hella expensive to build, they had to get their money’s worth out of them, and reusing them for a B-plot is cheaper than getting a lion, or a hundred guys fighting on the Baratie, or animating a six-armed swordsman. I just think that maybe they could’ve made different trade offs when including the marines while still involving them as a driving force somehow.
@@MousaThe14 I see what you mean but there's no guarantee that those scenes would have been there anyway if they didn't add the marine subplot. It's an adaptation so you can't expect everything to be the same as in the manga. There's things they removed that would have been good to have but ultimately this adaptation was more aimed at people who never seen the manga and those people won't even see an issue with the scenes you pointed out or at least not for the same reasons. To me this is the same as the anime removing zeph eating his leg or adding fillers, it sucks but they do what they have to do to fit the medium/ audience. Imo I think the show would have had way less success with the average viewer who doesn't watch anime if they had kept it closer to the original. People would be complaining about kobi being introduced at the beginning then just disappearing and the whole thing would have seem like they're just moving forward to fight the next boss. Those are things that are fine in anime but in a live action TV show it would only work if you had someone next to the viewer constantly reminding them that it's based on a manga. And many people watched the whole thing not even knowing it's based on a manga so all those people would have just seen it as a poorly structured story. It's never a good thing when you have to make excuses outside of the show for the story to make sense to someone who has only interacted with the actual show.
Regarding the marines' pursuit of Luffy in the anime. It makes more sense for the marines not to focus on chase Luffy in the East Blue since he still doesn't have a wanted poster and it's only after Arlong Park when he gets his wanted poster that the navy already has an idea of who he is yet. He is still a minor threat compared to other pirates with greater rewards in the Grand Line and for that one of the dynamic in the manga/anime is to increase his dangerousness as well as his wanted poster and thus have more relevance for the world.
@ 38:00 I didn't even consciously realize this until you pointed it out but the reason that scene falls flat is because as a general audience we don't know anything about sword fighting. The entire point of him holding the swords in a particular way is supposed to impress upon you that, despite it being his first time using two sword style, he innately takes a two sword style pose. The way the anime communicates this is by cutting to the master's reaction showing that it isn't just a cool looking pose but one that is recognized by a master. It also isn't communicated super well that Kuina is by far the best sword fighter in the dojo and so Zoro standing up to her at all is, by itself, impressive. Edit: Also just as an aside, you guys are so much more analytical than the vast majority of react channels and I haven't seen a question you've posed that even borders on having an obvious answer with what you have seen to this point. Pretty much everything you're confused about is due to either poor communication from the LA or just intended mystery for anyone who doesn't know the source material. Watching all of your reactions revolving around one piece has me so hyped for you to start the anime! I don't remember who said it but I think the most true thing I've ever heard about one piece is "It's as deep as you make it" truly, whatever depth you want to analyze a scene to, Oda matches it with character interactions and motivations which align with their actions. The first saga, "The East Blue" has some of the best character development and motivation exhibition of any piece of media I've seen. In Zoro's first interactions with Luffy I could talk for an hour about how well written it is and how well it aligns with their characters.
one thing people always tend to forget is this: The first Arcs of One Piece are quite old now. It is save to say that even an amazing artist like Oda did not think everything through all the way. So after the story progressed as far asd it has, of course he might have thought about what he would do different now if he had to start all over with One Piece. and i firmly believe that some of the changes were not just "Netflix ideas and bs" but also some storytelling that made more sense in a long run.
Nah man you’re totally valid for the water thing it’s very inconsistent. I would say kryptonite is a good comparison to make sometimes it hurts Superman or takes away his powers or doesn’t seem to do anything at all but it’s never good for Superman to be around it and sea water in one piece is the same.
its way clearer in the anime trust me and it's not even brought up that often XP it pretty much exists as a constant threat should luffy like fall into the ocean but villains rarely use it agaist him (mostly cause a lot of arcs don't take place in large bodies of water)
Can't wait for the Anime Reactions. Because after watching your live actions. I love your way of doing reactions, pretty in depth and well done. With how much lore there is in the anime, its gonna be a fun ride !
You are right on some things but your also wrong on a few others. So it will be interesting to see how you take this experience and ride with us. One piece is a very BIG story and there is alot of layers to it. Also I think its safe to say that in some ways because how popular the manga became later, it has certainly influenced oda to make certain changes. Not in the details of the writing it self but more so how things are structured and interperted as an expression of idea's which later evolves with the story.
@@royalfun1031Yep. I'm hoping Whiskey Peak gets entirely rewritten, since that mess supposedly came from an Editor who had no idea what One Piece fans want.
The lighting of the setup is great always a vibe! and banger discussion hyped to see what u guys think of the anime and compare and contrast the differences in the La nd anime.
1:04:21 those polls where the reason Rock Lee and Neji were sidelined in Naruto they were supposed to die during sasuke's rescue mission their use in the narrative and impact of the story was water down because they were popular enough that the fan base would riot if they die, thankfully Oda is not kishimoto
@@royalfun1031 fans have always been wild, definitely. what the wildness looks like can shift with the times but people are still people - entitled and deranged
33:45 The common concern upto this argument has been "Halloweeen costumes", but as an anime watcher, they do wash their clothes...but regarding your Episode 1 having lesser budget..here's the thing....Oda made them Reshoot certain scenes. And Axe-hand Morgan updated it on his social media, that he is back on the set....so that is why even Luffy's actor was looking Way Way Older than the rest of the season, while having his chat with the Tied up Zoro. But Luffy actor looking older there is my take, can be false.
Speaking of Death Note, Oda actually wrote a one shot in the 90s that is very much like Death Note, titled "God's Gift for the Future". I wouldn't be surprised if the mangaka of Death Note read it & was inspired
I feel like Lyndsey’s right about the uniform looking like they just got pulled off the rack, like they looked like they were just being worn for the first time, it makes sense like it didn’t have to look old but it also didn’t need to look that clean
Some things they did in LA will ruin a few amazing things in the future & some revelations for you in the anime, because they happened way too early. BUT still, it's by far the best LA I have ever watched. I really liked it! So glad to have you two in OP community!
I don't think that anything in the live action ruins something in the anime. With Garp we have one reveal that is at an earlier time but it has the same or an even better effect than in the anime. The knowledge has next to no effect for your enjoyment of the anime because he is only featured in three episodes before the connection to Luffy is revealed - and two of the episodes are even more enjoyable with this knowledge (at least for me). In the other episode you understand one remark from a character better but this is all.
Sanji and Usopp named their attacks and they don't have devil fruits. It's not the attack name that shows a devil fruit user, it's when they have the "_____ Fruit" is when you know.
Will be super interesting to see y'alls thoughts after we finish what the live action covers in the anime. I think the LA does some great changes, but also leaves out some integral (and not so integral) details. But I almost think you two will prefer the LA, which I can't say I totally DIS-agree with lol.
I am a first time viewer and I started watching the anime after I watched the live-action, I have just finished the Enies Lobby arc. And I'm gonna be honest, even though there are a few scenes that I wish they'd included in the LA, I liked better the way they did the East Blue saga in the Live Action than in the Anime overall (I know some people will completely disagree and even be mad at me for saying that). The anime gets a lot better during the Arlong Park arc, but everything before it just feels too slow and it doesn't feel that the world-building is as deep and complex as it starts being shown a few episodes later
I agrée. I prefer the La for East blue saga. Which makes me hopeful for the future arcs the LA will do. I think LA isn’t constrained in a way to the 20 min story telling of the anime, and also of course of the censorship.
I agree that the live action has many fan service easter eggs. Such examples are playing Bink's Sake during the Shanks flashback, certain people portrayed in the wanted poster, or a certain story Nami read to an injured Zoro, etc. But as you say, they created the story to help inform new viewers to inderstand and appreciate the story as is from the live action. The balance in modifying the story to fit the live action while being faithful to what is important to the source material. For this you need to have the professional skill to understand what works in live action but also having the deep understanding, passion, and appreciation of the source material. I think the team put together to make this series had these qualities in spades.
The water thing is confusing for new viewers cuz fishmen can throw water with force that's what it was Also Oda wasn't a fan of adding the Garp stuff this early the showrunners had to persuade him And that seems to be the general consensus among OP fans too cuz it took away screentime from characters like Usopp and Sanji and where they were going with it was also obvious The actors r good tho
Not adding Garp would likely makes the Marines just look like villains 100% of the time for too many seasons , i'd bet . And also way too incompetent till season 2 at least . The "issue" with Garp , is that without the usual comedic anime tones , where violence against friends and family is fine and means nothing (but near impossible to transcribe that way Live) , he just look crazy and like a jerk for a solid amount of scenes
When Arlong Splashed Luffy it only stopped Luffy for long enough for Arlong to beat his ass and throw him in the water. Buggy was on the floor crawling after he was flooded with the water he didn't just step up 1 second later. If you just get wet and aren't touching a constant flow of sea water it only effects you for a short period of time. The way to stop a devil fruit user is to have them touch salt water constantly, by either submerging them in it or some other methods you will see in the anime. So the two black cat pirates are literally the same in the anime. They got it perfect as they are supposed to be weird and creepy, but still releatively skilled with swords enough to fight Zoro for a bit 2v1. When Zoro was fighting them he was using his swords to block and attack at the same time so I'm not sure what you mean. There's a few instances where Zoro goes for big attacks with 2 or 3 swords at a time, but those have to be there because of the anime... Him using a sword in his mouth make's 100% sense in a world where a dude can throw a cannon ball and another dude can cut a ship in half from a distance. The actor was legit holding the sword in his mouth to make it authentic too. Not sure what else they could've done tbh. Zoro using two swords as a kid is supposed to be as it was. He has no idea how to use two swords, he was never trained to use two swords. Only reason he used two swords is because he's a kid and used dumb logic to say "2 swords beats 1 sword". If he started using two swords with perfect form it wouldn't have made sense so obviously he would go for what he thought looked cool because that's how things work in a kid's mind. Knowing who has devil fruit powers isn't supposed to be clear, but there are indicators like you said. Sanji calls out his moves, but obviously he doesn't have a fruit since you saw him jump in the water to save Luffy. You are not supposed to know anything about how Shank's did anything don't worry. There are answers to all your questions, but they come muuuuuch later.
Sanji also called his attack moves...so yelling your attack moves isn't really an indicator if someone is a fruit eater. although most devil fruit users will name their attack moves, some will not. It is also kinda nice that have to question for yourself is someone ate a fruit or not
The only rule about the water weakness for devil fruit users is that it has to be a complete standing body of water. As long as it's in a container and part of them is submerged it weakens them, with more of them being submerged weakening them further. It's why the rain doesn't strip them of their powers and why wet clothes don't matter. It has to be a "body" of water. It's a curse not an exposure to a material weakness like kryptonite or silver. It's never explicitly explained in story but Oda has explained the mechanics in the SBS Q&A corners he does and it is internally consistent at all times as presented in the manga, not just a plot device.
The good thing about One Piece is that they don't just add a random person to be a Strawhat member. Nami has her role as a navigator, which labels her as very very useful and the crew will always need her. So she will never be like Sakura from Naruto as you guys mentioned. Every single crew member of the Strawhat pirates will be relevant. It's amazing.
They made Ussop feel like a useful addition right of the bat (well at least in the anime , it's more apparent) , despite his fits of cowardice .. so yeah this was never a problem . And for most of East blue Saga , Nami is the real captain , one could argue ... despite not being able to make the most important decisions
Sakura is almost immortal, can heal tons of people at the same time remotely, has amazing chakra control, has crazy physical strength, is very intelligent, can deflect most genjutsu... She was done dirty like almost every female character in shonen, but she's still freaking amazing. This "Sakura is useless" narrative should've stayed in the first Naruto.
What to question? Question everything. People who watch the anime and read the manga are still questioning things from the beginning of the show that hasn't been revealed yet
Just to clarify the attack yelling convention isn't just for devil fruit users . Zoro Sanji and Ussopp all use naked attacks in the anime. But if you start an attack by saying gum gum or chop chop or whatever it is then you can tell it's a devil fruit ability. In my opinion it may be goofy but it's just one of those battle manga things you get used to. And really good series play with that convention with things like fake outs. Also as we go further along and more moves are mastered you see characters just use their abilities and tell them out less
an easy way to explain the water weakness is the difference between showers and baths. if someone gets showered with water he wont be weakened but if u throw a devil fruit user into a bathtub they get weakened. basically youre only weak when youre actively under water, once youre out of there even if theres remaints of water on you its fine. its more simple as u see more examples
@@royalfun1031 water itself is obviously not the weakness. It’s being IN water. Having water ON u means nothing and that stays consistent throughout the show
I think It become complicted in live action because they dont know much about fishman karate. It look like arlong just splashing luffy to make him weak but it actually his technique that can hurt anyone.
One piece manga content is kinda weird to get all information if you really want to dig deep. I can break down with some explanation : 70% of the world building/character work/detials is from canon manga + 5% is spinoff chapter+ 10% is SBS + 10% cover story + 5% Oda interview or some concept page. All of the information is beyond insanity. also one of the reason I love Onepiece is because like you mention " some easter egg that the fan who caught up will only notice", yes and that still happen when you reread the whole series. Oda plant the seed in the the early arc of Onepiece and pay off 500 chapter later. It is entertaining to go back to those small hidden details. Some fan is actually a detective for finding some ridiculous detial Oda add in early chapter lmao.
the only clothing issue i see that i wish they will improve is Luff'y base shirt. it looks crusty/stiff, and sometimes it looks like denim or whatever material they used making tote bag, also its way too short. 42:00 Water doesn't really disable the power of DF, they still have it they just don't have the strength to use it. The user just gets weakened instantly as soon as ENOUGH water gets them (ex: Arlong splashes Luffy: yes / Getting wet to rain-like pattern of water (idk how to word this right🤣): No). Once a DF users are not covered/submerged in water, even tho they are still WET they will start regaining their strength. But I agree tho that Oda can move the post if he wants to about this kryptonite. this is just what I have perceived so far in the show.
As far as the anime goes...the tone varies a lot from arc to arc but, without spoiling anything, it does generally get darker as it goes on. Lot of people in the Grand Line doing terrible things. Generally the Arlong Park arc (in the anime) is where it starts to get a lot more serious. The arcs before that are pretty goofy and lighthearted for the most part.
You guys have so many (very common) misconceptions about One Piece. It really is amazing how it's so well written that the things it does completely obliterate common assumptions and expectations. Can't wait.
One thing you said actually made me think One Piece isn't as "intrisnically hard to adapt" as some people made out: other manga do ridiculous things and pretend it's all super serious; One Piece makes no pretense that it's completely nuts. This makes it impossible for the series to take itself too seriously, so you don't get that "uncanny valley" when they transfer to live action. Maybe they could adapt One Punch Man or BoBoBo-bo next? The nationalies of the Straw Hats were not set for the live action; it's from SBS, a Q&A set session from the weekly manga chapters (someone asked "what nationality would the straw hats be if they were from earth"). SBS and the cover stories are actually a big part of one piece and inspire significant amounts of the live action; maybe you could react to them (if not the wider manga) while you're reacting to anime, as I suspect the anime misses them out. The thing with Zoro is: in the manga, Zoro has actual named 'attacks' he calls out (even with a sword in his mouth) and we see some of those in the show. Hitting with one and parrying with another isn't really a two-sword style 'attack', and his one-sword style attacks are generally done after sheathing the other ones. I think perhaps the issue is Zoro's manga fights are treated more like a video game fights than a real brawl so they don't feel real in live action Female characters will never go away in One Piece (although Nami may be sidelined by certain other female crewmates), especially in live action; because they're the "straight man" reacting against the other characters. Every male crew member has something incredibly goofy about them and the female cast react against that.
@@royalfun1031 Nami's only goofy stuff is her love of money; but that barely comes up, and where it does, it can come off as a relatable character flaw instead of the nuts stuff other character do. She's still "the straight man" most of the time, and you especially need that for the jokes to land properly in live action.
Looking forward to you guys seeing how much of the things actually changed since the show only has so much time to tell the story when adapting it, and as a result a lot of stuff was cut or changed and restructured, which of course makes sense for the adaptation but its gonna be interesting to see you guys figure out the situations with more actual context and details that the anime provides since it closely follows the manga
Idk why they changed the sea water weakness in the live action. In the manga you need to be knee deep in any water, not just sea water to feel weak. Splashes and rain do nothing. If you do fall in the ocean, you can't move at all and sink.
I think you're right. One of the things the LA did NOT do great was explaining the magic system and some people don't put themselves into perspective when writing a comment, even if they mean well. I was not an anime fan before watching the LA, although I had watched a decent number of episodes and had some knowledge about it and I can agree the LA doesn't state well this is a world with different limits to human strength and speed. It does kinda make it look like everyone's ordinary except for devil fruit eaters. As a viewer with some previous knowledge of the anime but not that much I was in the perfect spot of the spectrum to tell I knew what was happening only for my previous knowledge and to tell I wouldn't be able to fully tell without it xD.
yeah i kinda understand from the one who watch from live action many questions will come out early on believe us we manga reader and anime watcher also have many questions when we start but somehow it's all answered at some arc and pop out more question on a bigger scale like how and why one piece is started slow and then it get interesting it's like at some arc and stage make you want to rewatch it from episode one or reread it from chapter one and it's not seems like it's a burden to do that again like re read 1000 episode doesn't really become a problem
About Nami, kinda spoiler maybe, but whoever strong people joining The Strawhats, the East Blue Five, Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji will always be the main character, and in case of Zoro and Nami, they probably the main of the main character beside Luffy. While Zoro and Sanji support Luffy as the muscle, Nami & Usopp support Luffy as the brain.
Will you make another of these AFTER watching the anime for the East Blue? 😃 I want to see how your thought will change and what you'll think about the assumptions you make here
It's funny seeing you guys have reservations about the plot being boring without the marines in the east blue, or about Nami not being as important later on because let me tell you that you have NO IDEA what you're delving into. Side note: The One Piece community calls Oda 'Goda' for a reason, just saying ! You'll also come to trust Oda sensei in the future.
Sanji's Spanish actually. If you couldn't track the accent is because he's a Spanish guy talking in English and doing a French accent xD. The combination. But I too think he was one of the best actors in the show alongside with Nami, Zeff and Buggy.
He isn't doing a French accent at all. Only English, and he's not changing his natural accent that he has irl. He grew up speaking both English and Spanish. He's half English, half Lebanese and was born and raised on the Canary Islands.
@@kaijingarou6526 The way he pronounces the French named attacks sounds very British. The words are French. That has nothing to do with his accent lmao
Feel free to ignore my comment if you think its goig too in depth aout a single detail you brought up >.< to be fair, the distinctions with the water weakness are a little more clear in the anime, yes, what didn't help was the live action giving Buggy a line about it that people took more literally than it likely was meant to be as well as the liv action not having a scene explaining fishman powers (unlike the anime, where what fishman can do is more clearly estalished via outright exposition). And, to be fair (and at risk of vague spoilers possibly?), the water weakness does NOT come up that often outside jokes after East Blue. Surprisingly, not too many of Luffy's enemies outright try to drown him.
One piece powerscaller will tell you all this stuff but oda kinda lowkey doesn't care about the powerscaling he will always bs his way out when a reader aaking powerscalling related question in his qna corner It really is for convenience sake, one reader point out how a fight would go more efficiently by just kicking the enemy balls but his answers is just it won't be interesting He will throw out alot estabilish of power system and introduce a new one as long as it's interesting
well that's how it works in all fiction with powers anyway . Even the ones will well crafted power systems , gotta have moments of suspension of disbelief to simply move plots along and not get boring . Case in point , in comics , characters like Flash , Green Lantern and Ant-Man ... if using their powers to their full creative potential , they should easily solo most characters of their respective universe . The good ones , just don't abuse it and make it painfully obvious all the time (like late DBZ , GT and Super urgh)
The water thing will make sense in the anime. I don’t think think a DF user has ever been incapacitated from a splash of water. They have to be submerged in it. What Arlong did there was fish man karate.
I feel like there needed to be some sort of special effect on the attack because while it's clear what it is if you've seen the anime/manga, it isn't if you only watch the LA
I re consider my comment for a whole hour cuz I don't want to make it have hints for future event XD. Every minute of this VDO giving me idea too. and it reduce to... "Have fun guys I have no idea what to say 🤣"
also about zoro's swordplay, when the final attack with mihawk happened, it was supposed to be zoro doing his one of his ougi (ultimate/secret attack), the 'sanzen sekai' (three thousand worlds), basically using his sword doing 3x horizontal slashes at the same time. and in the live action, as much as i like the fight, he put the 3rd sword for...nothing? if he slashes with the other swords on the other side instead of his 3rd sword side, like what? also he's holding the one of the sword wrong. so most of the time his kuina sword is useless, whereas in the anime he used all of his sword right away against mihawk. overall i really like it but it still skips few important emotional points.
truth be told the 3rd sword has been useless in the LA , besides that one second where he holds it to Morgan's neck . But is it even possible to properly use that in a Live Action ?No amount of wires or cgi is gonna make it look good in many situations . I'm just glad they know to just make Zoro so cool and his fights so dope with any amount of swords
@@ZarathosDaimaoh well with that amount of quick cut in the LA, i think they could have done it. Maybe make it like the manga where only the resultant of the clash that is the focus, like for example, first time we see asura. We dont really know how it works, the anime even tried to expand on it, but even then its still just a still frame at the end (common with zoro's tech even until wano). Even in LA, we just see they both jump in, we see focused zoomed in sword clash, then they separate, and then they pose. Not much. So yea, we didnt see much of wd.ichimonji used for clashing, maybe sometimes, mostly for his main tech but not much, but the LA take it to next level lol. Other than that i love the fight, mihawk's movement is believable (in the anime its just dbz with swords lol)
@@ZarathosDaimaoh im actually fine with him using mostly 2 swords and using the 3rd for specials. But then he wear his 3rd sword and did sanzen sekai with basically just 2 swords, the 3rd just hanging there lol wtf 😂
I think one pieces power scaling goes so high that historically accurate represented sword fighting wouldn’t really make sense. Also ig it’s pretty dumb but zoro can’t be classified as a dual sword user
I can already tell you guys will be such a positive addition to the one piece online community. Can’t wait!
I tell you that you can rest assured, our protagonists continue to have their moments even in the current arcs, even in the arcs of other characters
About the Rules considering Water:
The live action actualy did it well, the confusion for new one piece fans is, that there is actualy two set of rules aplied in season 1.
Gonna watch this and try to not comment on too many things lol (I failed)
The manga is not afraid to briefly show things and not explain them early on. It wants you to ask questions. Tho I do think the Live Action could have emphasized the water rule for Devil Fruit eaters a bit more clearly. This criticism is very valid, and I think the anime does a better job of helping you know what the right questions to ask are
The political marine vs pirate stuff they brought into the LA here with Garp and Koby was really smart.
Oda loves his main characters
Don't talk shit about my boy Buggy 🤡 🤣
East Blue saga is very much the introduction for One Piece. This shit is gonna be ridiculously good
My overall take is that the Live Action improved the worst parts of the East Blue Saga, but it made the best parts a bit worse since they didn't have time to add the depth that the anime/manga gives.
I cannot wait for you guys to start the anime just from the thoughts and worries you guys have expressed
i think they started watching recently but only visible in patreon
@@rohanrana7067 yes they have! First 4 episodes have been edited
God I am SOOO GRATEFUL that they made this Live Action adaptation a reality. This is absolutely (almost) everything I could've dreamed of happening per the reception, all-around
Creating a separate channel just for One Piece was such a great idea 😄
I look forward for your reactions! Keep up the good work! ✨
all strawhats are important.
All of the strawhats are pivotal characters
@@HaxerousI think the story was written ambiguously so that people could make assumptions like that and then have them subverted.
I can't wait to watch the anime with you guys, I'm really interested in seeing yall perspective coming from the live action!!!!
Wut
Every arc 2 or 3 of the straw hats will always have pivotal moments. If they are pushed to the side lines it is only for a short while. Trust me they have a lot of development and continue to develop.
actually first time ive heard the water weaken devil fruit complaint. Its not used enough or in weird ways in the manga/anime to be even debated. Thats why no one has a answer for how it truly works lol.
How it truly works in the manga:
if you're mostly submerged in any water, you lose strength.
If you're splashed with water, you don't care
If you touch seastone, it acts as if you were submerged.
That's all
well that and they gave buggy a line that confused people because they thought he was speaing literally rather than just making a blitche, exagerrated joke to mock luffy, and the live action not having a dedicated exposition scene about fishman powers unlike the anime where arlong explains consisely what a fishman cna do that a human can't.
Yes this is important to note, he won't do something just to help someone out. It needs to be something he finds that goes against his own morals.
I’m excited for you all to watch the anime 🎉
yea it's only behind Batman and Superman comics I believe in total copies sold so far
@@SomeDudeOG I think it surpassed batman recently
Not to be that guy but it's kinda pointless to compare a manga with 1090 chapters with another one having 139 chapters and then to boast that it has significantly more sales
@@luceafarul5740that’s true that’s true so we should look at sales per volume. One piece blows attack on Titan out of the water there as well. The only manga that have more per volume is demon slayer, dragon ball, and slam dunk. One piece is by far the biggest manga and it’s not close
@@SomeDudeOGit's surpassed batman and on its way to surpass superman
It’s funny you say that the Marine subplot adds so much to the story when a common criticism is that the subplot takes away from Sanji and Usopp who probably needed that screen time more or for the series to have 10 episodes instead of 8.
Yea
It ultimately gives the whole season a more cohesive story imo
Garp's intervention in the LA gives meaning to the navy's pursuit as it makes it Garp's personal issue.
The live action was really great...cant wait for the next arcs to be adapted
I haven't seen this format of your guys' videos before, and as soon as you said "Welcome to -Boldcast" my mouth went "-BODCAST?"
one thing people always tend to forget is this: The first Arcs of One Piece are quite old now.
I would say kryptonite is a good comparison to make sometimes it hurts Superman or takes away his powers or doesn’t seem to do anything at all but it’s never good for Superman to be around it and sea water in one piece is the same.
its way clearer in the anime trust me and it's not even brought up that often XP
it pretty much exists as a constant threat should luffy like fall into the ocean but villains rarely use it agaist him (mostly cause a lot of arcs don't take place in large bodies of water)
Not to just be a fanboy , but Sea Water and derivatives' effect on Devil fruit users , have been very consistent n the anime and manga at least .
My man just predicted impel down when talking about buggy 😂

I feel like the word you were looking for to describe Luffy in the beginning is "intense".
But Luffy actor looking older there is my take, can be false.
whoever told you that ONLY devil fruit users call out their attacks has not been paying enough attention to the anime
I think what they said is they call it specifically like Gum-Gum or Chop-Chop, not that they don't call it at all.
@@kaijingarou6526Idk
There are some DF users who don't call out their attacks in the anime.
Zoro call out his attack and he's not a devil fruit user. Its just a choice the live action producers made
Speaking of Death Note, Oda actually wrote a one shot in the 90s that is very much like Death Note, titled "God's Gift for the Future".

Anime Buggy and Live Action Buggy are vastly different in personality and action.
Will be super interesting to see y'alls thoughts after we finish what the live action covers in the anime. I think the LA does some great changes, but also leaves out some integral (and not so integral) details. But I almost think you two will prefer the LA, which I can't say I totally DIS-agree with lol.
Anime does diff things
High quality content ! Happy you enjoyed !
The water thing is confusing for new viewers cuz fishmen can throw water with force that's what it was
Also Oda wasn't a fan of adding the Garp stuff this early the showrunners had to persuade him
And that seems to be the general consensus among OP fans too cuz it took away screentime from characters like Usopp and Sanji and where they were going with it was also obvious
The actors r good tho
Including Garp makes sense for live action adaptation reasons.
I like the garp stuff early but I agree they should've favored Ussop and Sanji scenes more
Not adding Garp would likely makes the Marines just look like villains 100% of the time for too many seasons , i'd bet . And also way too incompetent till season 2 at least . The "issue" with Garp , is that without the usual comedic anime tones , where violence against friends and family is fine and means nothing (but near impossible to transcribe that way Live) , he just look crazy and like a jerk for a solid amount of scenes
Im just going to say from what ur likes and worries r u will enjoy the show a lot
Nami's tattoo stabbing scene cut really deep? I see what you did there 🤣
When Arlong Splashed Luffy it only stopped Luffy for long enough for Arlong to beat his ass and throw him in the water.
It is also kinda nice that have to question for yourself is someone ate a fruit or not
Based on your take and expectation, its gonna be fun journey lol
The only rule about the water weakness for devil fruit users is that it has to be a complete standing body of water. As long as it's in a container and part of them is submerged it weakens them, with more of them being submerged weakening them further. It's why the rain doesn't strip them of their powers and why wet clothes don't matter. It has to be a "body" of water. It's a curse not an exposure to a material weakness like kryptonite or silver. It's never explicitly explained in story but Oda has explained the mechanics in the SBS Q&A corners he does and it is internally consistent at all times as presented in the manga, not just a plot device.
You both are so amazing love the reactions and give honest feedback. Can’t wait to see you’re reactions to the anime it’s a wild ride!! 🤟🤟❤️❤️

It's amazing.
wait until they see a certain scene in the anime they'll know that One Piece is super different from naruto on that front

Can't wait for them to see how darker the story of one piece can be ❤

Hell yeah guys!
an easy way to explain the water weakness is the difference between showers and baths. if someone gets showered with water he wont be weakened but if u throw a devil fruit user into a bathtub they get weakened. basically youre only weak when youre actively under water, once youre out of there even if theres remaints of water on you its fine. its more simple as u see more examples
Still water
Yeah it's not like Ha-
Arlong used one of his moves he wasn't disabling him
As far as the anime goes...the tone varies a lot from arc to arc but, without spoiling anything, it does generally get darker as it goes on. Lot of people in the Grand Line doing terrible things.
Generally the Arlong Park arc (in the anime) is where it starts to get a lot more serious. The arcs before that are pretty goofy and lighthearted for the most part.
20:30 one piece has 100 million manga sales outside of Japan. Attack on titan from worldwide has 110 million manga sales
Welcome to the OP community, can’t wait until y’all start the anime
I feel like the main difference is that they used Garp to speed up the arc to fit in 8 episodes.
1:03:17 Oh Oda knew. Oda knew about the world and characters more than we ever could have imagined. You’ll see what I mean.
40:50 Dude you didn't need to call out OP anime fans like that 🤣🤣🤣
@@TetsuoIVIX ? I was talking about the copypaste comment of the huge presaved speech, not whether the info is correct or not
You guys have so many (very common) misconceptions about One Piece.
I think perhaps the issue is Zoro's manga fights are treated more like a video game fights than a real brawl so they don't feel real in live action
Female characters will never go away in One Piece (although Nami may be sidelined by certain other female crewmates), especially in live action; because they're the "straight man" reacting against the other characters. Every male crew member has something incredibly goofy about them and the female cast react against that.
They goof off too
@@royalfun1031
Nami's only goofy stuff is her love of money; but that barely comes up, and where it does, it can come off as a relatable character flaw instead of the nuts stuff other character do.
She's still "the straight man" most of the time, and you especially need that for the jokes to land properly in live action.
@@IamGrimalkin yeah girls r portrayed diff
I bet you guys will love Buggy eventually 😮
When's the anime reactions droppin?
Sanji named his attacks at the end.
Altho one of the later ones is very integral
Will you make another of these AFTER watching the anime for the East Blue? 😃 I want to see how your thought will change and what you'll think about the assumptions you make here

It's funny seeing you guys have reservations about the plot being boring without the marines in the east blue, or about Nami not being as important later on because let me tell you that you have NO IDEA what you're delving into.
Side note: The One Piece community calls Oda 'Goda' for a reason, just saying ! You'll also come to trust Oda sensei in the future.
Ye
Sanji's Spanish actually. If you couldn't track the accent is because he's a Spanish guy talking in English and doing a French accent xD. The combination. But I too think he was one of the best actors in the show alongside with Nami, Zeff and Buggy.
He isn't doing a French accent at all. Only English, and he's not changing his natural accent that he has irl. He grew up speaking both English and Spanish. He's half English, half Lebanese and was born and raised on the Canary Islands.
@@Ryroe Well maybe not in general but he sure does when he calls his special moves.
@@kaijingarou6526 The way he pronounces the French named attacks sounds very British.
The words are French. That has nothing to do with his accent lmao
@@Ryroe I kinda think it did but would be funny to me if I got it wrong because I'm Spanish too xD
He talks with his natural accent which is a south London accent.
Feel free to ignore my comment if you think its goig too in depth aout a single detail you brought up >.<
to be fair, the distinctions with the water weakness are a little more clear in the anime, yes, what didn't help was the live action giving Buggy a line about it that people took more literally than it likely was meant to be as well as the liv action not having a scene explaining fishman powers (unlike the anime, where what fishman can do is more clearly estalished via outright exposition).
And, to be fair (and at risk of vague spoilers possibly?), the water weakness does NOT come up that often outside jokes after East Blue. Surprisingly, not too many of Luffy's enemies outright try to drown him.
More reactors need to do this instead of posting an extra 20 minute talk after every episode lmao
Saw this on my home page. Immediately clicked 👌
I gonna hear this at work lol
I like your content guys, keep it up. One Piece is an ODAssy..
One piece powerscaller will tell you all this stuff but oda kinda lowkey doesn't care about the powerscaling he will always bs his way out when a reader aaking powerscalling related question in his qna corner
It really is for convenience sake, one reader point out how a fight would go more efficiently by just kicking the enemy balls but his answers is just it won't be interesting
He will throw out alot estabilish of power system and introduce a new one as long as it's interesting
well that's how it works in all fiction with powers anyway .
@@ZarathosDaimaohye
The water thing will make sense in the anime. I don’t think think a DF user has ever been incapacitated from a splash of water. They have to be submerged in it. What Arlong did there was fish man karate.
I feel like there needed to be some sort of special effect on the attack because while it's clear what it is if you've seen the anime/manga, it isn't if you only watch the LA
I re consider my comment for a whole hour cuz I don't want to make it have hints for future event XD.

Creepy Luffy? Wow that was the first time i heard about to describe luffy.
also about zoro's swordplay, when the final attack with mihawk happened, it was supposed to be zoro doing his one of his ougi (ultimate/secret attack), the 'sanzen sekai' (three thousand worlds), basically using his sword doing 3x horizontal slashes at the same time. and in the live action, as much as i like the fight, he put the 3rd sword for...nothing? if he slashes with the other swords on the other side instead of his 3rd sword side, like what? also he's holding the one of the sword wrong. so most of the time his kuina sword is useless, whereas in the anime he used all of his sword right away against mihawk. overall i really like it but it still skips few important emotional points.
truth be told the 3rd sword has been useless in the LA , besides that one second where he holds it to Morgan's neck . But is it even possible to properly use that in a Live Action ?No amount of wires or cgi is gonna make it look good in many situations . I'm just glad they know to just make Zoro so cool and his fights so dope with any amount of swords
@@ZarathosDaimaohyea
One thing about One Piece, Oda has had most of the entire story figured out since the beginning.
One of the best things in one piece is to speculate what is going to happen by theorizing and failing 😂
