I agree, when i play i usually just play on my own and just watch silently taking it in, this made me put my hand over my eye and go ‘urggh!’, partly because i hate stuff to do with eyes.
This is most definitely one of the most subtly horrifying and perfectly voice acted villains of all time in any video game or animated tv show/movie. He is mischievous, pure evil, one who is clever and dangerous, yet not overdone/exaggerated. Everything he says fits his character perfectly and sets up an aura of death and deceit around him. And this line in response to Geralt wanting to know who he is, "No Geralt, you don't. This time I will spare your life and not grant your wish.". Fucking. Epic.
Pasathon Mayakool My response to that is to look up the in game lore about his character. He's basically a jokerous demon. (As weird as it is, jokerous is a word.)
Comet Astral ikr. I also find his character fascinating as well...Would be great to see him again in the next Witcher game lol...providing that Geralt didn't help Olgierd is the canon ending, that is.(I've heard that CDPR won't let go off this franchise so easily...for this is but the end of Geralt's Story :P )
Pasathon Mayakool I don't know if that's entirely true. I don't want the franchise to end. But it's main reason for being so good was because of the story. If they start trying to make up a new plot. I'd find it really lost to the rest of the franchise. I know they're making Gwent a standalone game. (So happy for it since I found it fun). But I highly doubt they'll go through with any plans to make a new series. I'm hoping they let the story rest in peace now that it was given an awesome ending. (Blood and Wine official ending). And keep the team together and make a new francise the same way as the Witcher series.
True, but I don't really like the quests though. That's why Blood and Wine is my favorite and I usually skip HoS on a new playthrough so that I can get to the end of the game quicker.
@@victorzelo4304 are you talking about the HOS boss fights? or Blood and Wine? Because while they can be frustrating because of the amount of time it takes, they're also very cool boss fights
im very sure that O'dimm can travel through the worlds. Say, the way to the other side would open. With very cold welcome... Also that would be very ironic and O'dimm loves it.
swirekster I dont think that higher vampires can be killed by ONLY another vampire. I think that it just ment that they are so powerful that it is just easyer to get another vampire on your side than to search another being that is equally powerful.
The Wild Hunt were intimidating. The Crones, creepy. O' Dimm? He's the only thing that was *scary*. He's operating on a completely different level from anyone else in the game, could kill a man with a thought, and fucks with people just because he can. All with that same cocky look on his face because he knows you can't hope to stop him.
This scene kinda made me think of him less like a mage or a monster, and more like God or Satan. All fun and games to talk about, but you really remember their weight when they're standing in front of you.
@@AngelofEresos because he actually is Satan. Remember a blind guy? That was optional part of shani. But that blind guy had a journal and there he has written Odimm is Evil incarcerate who can’t be destroyed. So yes he is indeed a godly creature
Exactly my thought. Nothing in the came compared to this guy! I don’t know why but when I got free from the sea instantly I understood I made a pact with someone powerful. I didn’t have idea how powerful. I always felt uneasy because Geralt kept saying like- your husband made a very powerful enemy or similar thing when he was talking about O’Dimm! Geralt says many time this or that enemy is powerful but not once said very powerful or very dangerous. That’s why I was always on my guard😰
"This one time I shall spare you Geralt and not grant your wish." I find that action rather fascination, and it makes me think for all O'Dim's evilness he still has some actual respect for Geralt.
True, but even when Geralt interrupts O'Dim when he's going to claim Olgierd's soul he even bothers to give Geralt a warning when he absolutely didn't need him any more. Call it a hunch but I always got the impression that despite being vastly superior O'Dim grew to have a small amount of respect for Geralt - a rarity I'm sure. Than again it's completely possible that that is just O'Dim being the silver-tongued Devil he is, as I'm sure he treated Olgierd in a similar fashion when they first met.
Also, if you let him claim Odgeird's soul he gives you the opportunity to ask for something no strings attached despite not being obligated to do so. Additionally he says "if ever I need help settling a debt, I'll call for a Witcher". Hints at a certain level or respect and willingness to cut some slack for Geralt.
Well he does say that he torments those of "rotten natures." It may simply be that Geralt is enough of a good person in his opinion to not be a potential victim.
The best thing are the reactions after that guys lays on the ground: "Well, he was a piss drunk, so maybe he fainted" "With a spoon sticking out of his eye?!?"
Actually, during the quest to get to the scholar with Shani near the end of the DLC, she speaks with a guard to get inside, and I remember her saying that the guard took an arrow to the knee.
Fun possibility: O'Dimm is a sentient program. He knows he is in a video game. His ability to stop time and grant wishes come from his ability to manipulate the source code. The reason why those who discovered his true nature go insane is because they glimpse the true nature of their world in were horrified by it.
That's actually brilliant. Like, he knows hes nothing but lines if digital code, and has figured out how to alter that code, and screws around with people to try and ignore the fact he and everyone else is not real, they're some artificial construct that exists just to be someone else's entertainment
@@cinders5305 What's more, when asked what boon you want from him at the end of Heart of Stone, you can ask about Ciri. If you do, he tells you tips on how to get the "good ending." Funny how he knows that!

2:52 I honestly think gaunter was looking at us, the player warning us not to ask questions then said geralt so it didn't immediately appear like a 4th wall break
The story on this game is just something else... This is one of the very rare situations at least for me where gameplay equals the story in the highest level not only in the heart of stones but in the main game too
I'm replaying this game, and that look from O'dimm when he said "Yet I still need you" while looking at the 'camera' instead of Geralt still freaks me out.
He is not devil. Why is it that anytime that someone steal souls, everyone jumps 'Oh he is the devil!'? Such a boring cliche. Gaunter is not devil. He is more of a interdimensional entity.
@@sightfield Yeah, but when you go through the quest you learn he didn't succeed in summoning O'Dimm. When they first met, it was at a crossroads, at Olgierds lowest point in life. I think the game shows pretty clearly that O'Dimm is beyond summoning and rituals, and he is the only one in control. The only thing that can shackle him is the rules he creates by his own will. Like he said, he doesn't cheat.
“No Geralt, you don’t” The fucking implications of the vast knowledge and power Gaunter possesses is haunting. It still gives me chills thinking about it.
0:30 And this moment, right here, is when I realised just how powerful and dangerous O'Dimm was. To stop Time itself with but a clap of his hands, no flashy spells or complicated formula or visible effort.
+Rhys Davies well i think that is what the producers literally want him to be. But i think he is not close to Lucifer yet. If you let Olgierd died, he will grant you something and if you choose Ciri (taken you hadn't finished the game at this point) he said that "There're things that even I can't meddle with, Ciri is beyond my reach" . I think that if he is like Lucifer no living beings can be "out of his reach" XD!
No he's evil bud. It often says in the lore he revels in doing bad things, not your run of the mill cruelty but evil none the less. But he is a good villain.
+Memento Mori (spoiler) When you defeat him, he talks in Elder Speech, I think I translates to "You are primitive. You think you defeated me but I'll be back." Of some sorts
+emmy sia which i think is just pathetic babbles. given of how when geralt say begone!, he kinda pushed back unwillingly into portal and reduces into ashes. possibly because maybe he is like an agent of powerful being seeking greedy soul through making pact
+Eissa Cozorav except Hearts of Stone takes place before the games ending, in which the dwarves from the Isle of Mists tell you that they sold an expensive goblet to someone whose name was something like "Mr. Mirrory". In other words, he's already back by the end of the game.
And that is how you give a seemingly simple character imposing presence. You have him demonstrate his power in small subtle ways and make allusions to what he really is but you never EVER outright state it. Because it's not knowing the answer to a question that makes the question interesting, it's the uncertainty, the mystery, and the speculation.
I personally like Gaunter. He saved Geralt's life, told him were Yennefer headed and was always completelly honest. Never lied, never threatened. Besides, Olgierd is a carismatic fellow, but he is not a good person. In the end ,as the kinded hearted as I am, I saved him nevertheless, although my regret, for Gaunter could prove a powerfull ally later.
+Caio Oliveira plus if you do hearts of stone before going to isle of mists, O'Dimm gives you the 6th reward and tells you how to get SPOILER: . . . . . Ciri witcheress ending. Because of the last one I let Olgierd die.
"He who sups with the Devil should have a long spoon"An old 14th Century proverb that means that one should be cautious when dealing with a dangerous person.
Todd Howard :P I don't know if it was intentionally referencing that but we do know that the master mirror is basically a devil. Even the fact that you meet him at the crossroads.
This is the best expansion/dlc I've ever seen in any game I've ever played. When I first played this and got to this scene and he told me "no, geralt you dont" sent shivers down my spine.
Finished HoS recently. That clap chilled me before everyone froze. That's when it clicked, before he killed the random drunk, I wasn't dealing with something natural. Also, never talk to Satan kids.
I really really wanted some kind of easter egg in NG+ where Geralt meets O'Dimm in White Orchard and says some shit like, "Have we met?" and O'Dimm say "Perhaps. Time is a devilish thing. Sometimes you'd swear you were reliving a moment." Or some shit like that.
I was stoned playing late at night when I walked in this scene, no idea who I was dealing with until he stopped time and the very onimus way he told Geralt "No, you don't" when I really wanted to know who he was. The chills down my spine where constant and I knew right away who I was dealing with. Scared the shit out of me as the lighting seemed to grow dimmer and red and the expression on his face totally changed.
2:52 This part made me feel uncomfortable. The sudden change in O'Dim's voice to a more threatening tone, the "creepy" part of the soundtrack kicking in and when we have a close-up shot of him refusing to answer the question, it looks like he is not looking at Geralt but directly at YOU. (Dunno if it was intentional or just a coincidence)
4:40 " what the devil?" If anybody still couldn't get it after this hint then I don't know what more do you need... Remember that there are many different dimenstions = different worlds in Witcher universe, our world, our world right now exists in Witcher universe - Ciri visited Europe during middle ages after all. So yes, he is who christian mythology calls Lucifer.
Twardowski* One more paralell to that story would be that the Devil said that he would claim Twardowski's soul once they met in Rome (the Moon in Hearts of Stone). Twardowski just decided to never go to Rome but the Devil tricked him and claimed his soul once they met in a tavern called "Rome" (the cobblestone mosaic of the moon in HoS).
2:45 the answer Gaunter gives to Geralt is even darker than we can imagine, the thought of a demon or a djinn is nothing compared to what the true nature and purpose of O'Dimm actually is.
ZA WARUDO!!... Sorry couldn't help myself. This scene was bloody amazing. It finally showed us just how dangerous O'dimm really was. Only thing that scared me even more, was the tale we got from the Occultist reader. How he was trapped in the rune cicle, got blind, and even thought he actually had a daugther... man that was a sad tale. O'dimm really went full evil on him.
"Why is there a fly in my soup? I didn't see you come in. How is it you're here?" "I'm a witcher. Superhuman quickness and reflexes and all that" After 5 seconds of contemplation: "You put this fly in my soup?!" I don't know why, but his delivery of that line always cracks me up). It's even funnier if you choose the "I control time" option.
Geralt possesses power far greater than O'dimm. The power of autosaves and checkpoints.

As a desensitized gamer, it takes a lot to get a rise out of me, this scene got an audible "oh shit!" out of me.
I can wholeheartedly relate
I agree, when i play i usually just play on my own and just watch silently taking it in, this made me put my hand over my eye and go ‘urggh!’, partly because i hate stuff to do with eyes.
Yeah this was the only scene out of the entire game that made me squirm in my chair.
@Keyboard Warrior Your name fits
Fucking. Epic.
Agreed. He's got a certain... Hannibal Lecter charm.
He isn't that evil...he's just roused evil within people's hearts, and toying them with it.
HoS is just god tier writing!
The dynamic between Olgierd, Geralt and O'Dimm is simply perfect.
True, but I don't really like the quests though. That's why Blood and Wine is my favorite and I usually skip HoS on a new playthrough so that I can get to the end of the game quicker.
Haha body
@@MM-vr8rj The writing in the quests and the direction of the quests is fantastic! The boss fights however are frustrating, not hard…but frustrating.
@@victorzelo4304 are you talking about the HOS boss fights? or Blood and Wine? Because while they can be frustrating because of the amount of time it takes, they're also very cool boss fights

He would trick another higher vampire into killing one.
I mean c'mon. In Blood And Wine a woman tricked a vampire.
im very sure that O'dimm can travel through the worlds.
"This one time I shall spare you Geralt and not grant your wish." I find that action rather fascination, and it makes me think for all O'Dim's evilness he still has some actual respect for Geralt.
well i think its more that he needs him to recieve olgierds soal. which he actually mentions in the sentence afterwards
Bainbow yeah, i think thats the thing. Geralt is simply not bad enough to end in the “prey” category.
Haha, just noticed the bandit says 'What the Devil?' After time returns to normal. Very Fitting.

Yep plus the Nilfgaardian "Black Infantry Archer" card has this inscribtion: "Aim for the knee. Always."
Btw he mentioned 4 dimensions, but there's actually 5. SPACE
Space conforms to the three standard dimensions length, width, and depth.

@Sight Field what did he try

Exactly, mystery and uncertainty builds fear and suspense
