- The Step Through (up & under) is really underrated finishing move. Fake out your defender with a pump fake in the lane, then step by him for an open layup.

Been working on my step through for a while it annoys me when people try call it a travel thx for the list of options coach 👍🏽
It is one of the most unrecognized rule in the NBA, that we can pick up our pivot before the shot.
Gotta show this vid to every hooper in the world, especially the guy in that Jass' clip
@@jk7404_ it's usually dudes who don't know the game or can't do the moves calling it a travel.
Just hop off two feet or score off one foot then the second step will be the step through
Yeah, they called me travel when i used that and asked why ? 🤔
@@ExiaS7 just do the above or do footwork drills to learn how to score off one foot it will help with jump shots layups floaters and finger rolls etc
As I've gotten older and can't relay on just athleticism against faster, stronger, and taller players moves like this are my go to. Pulled this in pickup and hear somebody yell out "GO TO WORK UNK!!" 😂 Damn I love the game hopefully I'll be playing as a real old man

Woah, a traveling tutorial from a youtube coach, we sure are progressing in the right direction.
My go-to channel for skill set development!
Big props, CF! 🤝🏼
1:38 legendary moment
i recently took a break from bball cause i have heart issues, this channel made me think its a blessing. i really struggle with game sense, game speed and shot selection. this channel helps with everything.
Man you have no idea how much these videos helped me i have become a much better baller than i once was and i can't thank you enough❤❤
keep sharing your knowledge in basketball coach cause i love it i always watch your all vid because i learn to much keep teaching coach🙏
just added the gather step in my bag. might add this move too. ty for this
I've been waiting for this, thanks man
i do this every time but when one of my opponents said it's a travel i stopped doing this😂 I'll practice it again
It was indeed a wonderful video thanks for all the trouble u took up just to teach us for free... Tq Mr coach 🌼🌻
Every video you put out is fire!
well done coach!
This channel is GOLD
Very useful when putting back offensive rebounds too. pump fake -> step through.
It's a fine line between a high gather euro and a pump fake step through. Always struggled with the euro. Def gonna try to add this to my bag.
Another Fire video 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you very much for posting this for free
Coach Frikki is the best!
Love all the vids lately keep up the good work
Takk, hlakka til að hitta þig í sumar 🏀
@@CoachFrikki yep can't wait 👍
Great videos, keep up the good work. Could you possibly do a step back video sometime. The foot work is pretty complex. Luka, harden, Tatum have good step backs.
Preciate the video I’m glad u made one on this I suggested this
Good stuff as usual Coach Frikki. I have improved my game so much since I started watching your videos!!!
Great video ever! thx :)
Another one 🔥

thanks ill add this to my bag
Also great work with the channel i can't believe one video even got 800k views!!!
This channel it's amazing
I can confirm that this does work 😅 I did it to a defender once and they went flying. I just got an easy 2 foot from the basket layup.
I fall for this all the time
You’re the best!
Do a lay up moves tier please
I love this channel. This happens to be my favorite move, Hakeem Olajuwon and Kevin Mchale the OG masters of it. First time i ever see anybody or any channel explain and break it down so well💕
I love this move in basketball
Good video. I like that I can watch while the volume is off if I need to.
could u do a drive baseline dump off middle or corner VIDEO PLEASE, I NEED THIS!!! ALL LOVE
Like the music! Haha
underrated channel
I love doing this sky hook then step through then go back and forth until they give up then I return to sky hooks
This is my favorite move and its much more effective in the LOW POST.. especially the spin. Shot fake step through very hard to check in the post
anotha 1, ayos!
this is the best
Can you make a video about reading your defender in 1v1
self pass to the backboard is illegal in most leagues btw. if the ball hits the backboard of the offense and referee sees it as a non shooting attempt the backboard is treated as the floor. so if you used up your dribble and do that it is a double dribble.
I literally had some old head tryna tell me that the step through was a travel yesterday told him it’s not but you know how old heads are perfect timing
Yeah, we play REAL BASKETBALL! Not that 3 and 4 step layup crap or that pro hop double jump traveling mess! That’s some new stuff that they just started and you didn’t EVER see Jordan and Magic and all them doing that stuff because that’s traveling. Old school hand check, hard pick, no blood no foul basketball is how you learn to play basketball because you will always be unstoppable if you stick with that play style. It’s harder, it’s rougher and it takes more skill to play that way. That’s why Fiba and European leagues even invented that stuff like the pro hop because they couldn’t play that old NBA real style basketball. Why do you think Toni Kukoc and Vlade Divac were super dominant in Europe but were just okay in the NBA? That’s a style of play that was too much for them at the time. Once they started Euro-cizing the NBA was when everyone started becoming softer more lazier players. That’s why you have centers and power forwards that run the perimeter and can’t play the post or be defensive beasts in the paint. The modern day NBA players barely play any defense! Steal leaders with 7 and 8 steals! Cmon man! Y’all are just a soft generation of ballers and if you have to do things the actual way they were initially made you all cry and complain about it until things can go your way. Sometimes I don’t even like playing with young dudes out there because I score 8 points in a row and they just stop defending me and let me get my points because they are just like “he’s gonna hit them little jumpers anyway”. That’s such a waste and they still don’t think to guard me harder they just give up on me and start pressing a teammate of mine harder so that I possibly don’t get the ball. It never works but it’s something I see all the time. Y’all need to stop playing soft basketball and quit complaining about old school ways and actually learn them.
@@ludotoyhunter8492 well some things just change over time
@@ludotoyhunter8492 nice tirade. jordan did do pro hops and step throughs
@@ghiidra__ It's some of the dumbest shit I've ever read lol.
Can you do a tutorial on the back tap steal or poking the ball from behind?
One variation I’d like to see here is the one handed pick up underneath the ball, like curry did a week or two ago. Really sells the fake and gets the defender going the other direction with your motion before the pivot, instead of just up towards your shot fake.
Hi coach! does the expander help to improve the muscles of the forearm and hand? Does it Increase the shooting range accordingly?
reverse pivot is kobe favorite:)
Kobe has the best footwork ever. His reverse pivot is sooo clean.
with consistency he's the promising fourth mamba im feeling it
Great video! Want to us something though, how can i finish if the help defender is standing up?
Love this! I hate people calling travel on step through moves. It's like all anybody knows how to do now a days are jack up low percentage 3s. On our channel we either get compliments or travel claims lol. People have forgotten the nuances of midrange scoring footwork!

Try a bunch of hesitation's/crossovers as well as speed changes
please create a tutorial of how to be a good center and how to score inside when you got a offensive rebound i need your tips as soon as possible thankyouu
There are no positions in basketball. "Center" doesn't mean anything in 2022.
Every player should play mainly outside the 3 point line for the best spacing.
I'm gonna do a offensive rebound + finishing video sometime soon though.
@@CoachFrikki YESS I NEED OFFENSIVE REBOUND FINISHING MOVESS
many players i see do this but instead of stepping tru they hopped tru end up a jumping they never admit. when both foot touches the ground after ending the dribble you cannot hop. hop can only be done when the non pivot foot have yet touched the floor. you have to take the step before lifting the pivot foot. 1:30 & 2:08 are wrong examples of a jump.
3:09 Zack from 2hype went flying hahahahahahah
What is the difference between step forward and a classic step thru
stop, pivot, jump, shoot. Up and under sounds better, step through suggests you are taking a step which is a travel
0:08 this one is a travel 100%
It’s not just traveling at 00:08, there’s a lot of traveling in this video.
Hey great video as always- can you make a video for shorter players ? (5'7- 5'8) - finishing move, dribbling move . I'm a shorter player and I feel like I do not have the confidence to drive towards the basketball when guarded by a tall player
Just do it when you practice then you'll start to gain the confidence fs, practice against players wayy taller then u
@@accreationz7324 thanks AC - yep, Im definitely not discounting practice- but what should I practice? I'm pretty sure there are finishes / dribbles that I'm better off learning as a smaller guard (as compared to a Centre for example)
@@SzI18 So basically when your going thru your drill exaggerate your last step or your last move that'll help you a little, a weight vest could help you as well.. when your playing rec ball work on that it's all part of practice and working on your game
@@SzI18 exaggerated steps, floaters left to right ,veer step hook lay up both hands, slow to finishes lay ups those are good for little crafty guards, and really use a lot of head fakes
I just became a prolific scorer after watching this
1:34 is a travel, illegal pivot, pivot foot lifted before non-pivot foot came back to the ground (And I'm also ignoring the shuffled pivot foot prior)
not just 1:34 travel, a lot of travel in this video.
If these illegal become legal, then Olajuwon should be able to score more than 50 points in every game.
Lol yes we can killed me lol genius meme
Obama is a hooper #LeftyShooter
lol that t jass clip in the beginning was called a travel by the defender
Difference between a step through (which is legal) and a hop through (which is illegal) Most of the clips at the beginning were completely legal as they kept their pivot on the ground during the step through. The problem is that many people people hop through in order to gain extra distance from the defender while simultaneously traveling. The clip at 1:34 and others like it are not proper step throughs and should be called out. I see people all the time treating step throughs like a normal one two step when in reality it’s just a player utilizing their non pivot as a step while keeping their pivot in contact with the ground until the shot.
Interesting point. Can you quote the rule that disallows a "hop through"?
@@CoachFrikkiit's illegal, because you're changing your pivot foot with this hop
@@CoachFrikki Rule 25.2.1. Pivot foot rule, the pivot foot can be raised to shoot or pass when either foot is on the ground, but don’t forget that when you lift the pivot foot, the other foot is on the ground----travel
Also XIII h)
@@rogerhuang9760 Jumping right-right or left-left is always a travel. Hopping on a step through isn't. Because the pivot foot doesn't return to the ground.
What about the kawhi ones recently, he lands on the left 1-2 step back not hop step type stepback, then lifts the left pivot to step thru and launch off the left foot again? I think thats a travel.
Yeah Kawhi travels on his step thrus sometimes.
I did the turn around step through and people call it a travel smh..must be cos I lifted up my pivot foot on the second fake.. But true hoopers know that lifting up the pivot is not a travel

Can you make a off ball movement
Just take two seconds in the search bar and you'll see he did already
Once you step through do you have to jump off 2 feet for it to not be a travel?
Jumping off 2 is legal. So is jumping off 1.
No rule said you have to jump off 2, practice both in case the refs dont know what they are doing
I think changing your pivot (leave your pivot up the air and jump another step) is travel. It doesn't get called in NBA doesn't mean anything. So many travel aren't called in NBA anyways.
i want to know this video bgm
The most controversial move ever 🤦🏻 Haters would scream "Travel!"
please parse the fadeaway
Some of these are travels while se of them arent...you have to leave both feet first before even attempting to do the step through...merely stepping back isnt enough
That's traveling in Videos
If you don't land in a jump stop then it's a travel right?
Nope - you don't have to jump stop.
If you stop R-L then you can move your left foot.
If you stop L-R then you can move your right foot.
It's a clear travel on 0.21 clip. Can't move none-pivot foot after stopping.
A lot of small travels in this video for sure. Rarely gets called though.
The problem is that a lot of non pro playera will call u travel for that.
Cuz ppl think u cant jump from ur pivot foot
I dont undrestand why :D its just same like layup. You have two steps. In layup you also pick up your pivot foot :D
Luka Donocic walked his @$$ off at the 4:33 mark in the clip where he’s wearing the orange shoes and they are showing the footage overhead. That’s not a good example, he got lucky that they did not see/call him with that mess!
It's sloppy but he fumbles and then dribbles again (hard to see) before establishing his pivot foot with the gather, then steps through. Borderline, but not a clear travel really.
Is it legal even by fiba rules ?
Yup
Bro, please do a video about fade away
Nope 😶 I'm not a fan of the midrange shot. Threes & layups.
You will hardly need it, unless the rest of your team is terrible
@@CoachFrikki what happens when the defense runs you off the line and there's a rim protector in the paint? Midrange keeps the defense honest. The greatest scorers utilize mid range and post game. Guys like harden who rely on 3s and layups are more prone to struggle in the playoffs vs better and more physical defense.
@@CoachFrikki fadeaways is one of the best shots. Wilt, MJ, bird, kd, dirk, Kobe, Hakeem and many more have dominated with that shot.
@@brendanbloom3366 You can pick anecdotes, and reference old players. But the game is changing & data don't lie - if we are talking about average PPP in the modern game then the mid-range (0.84 PPP) is laughably inefficient compared to threes (1.06 PPP) and shots at the rim (1.37 PPP). These are averages from the current NBA season.
Against defenses who run you off the line you can go for flyby or sidestep threes, drive & kicks, or finish against the rim protector who's often late / not there because of defensive 3 seconds. All those options are more efficient than a mid range shot.
step back step through..traveling..
According to FIBA rules it is a travel. They clearly state that "the player may JUMP off a pivot foot"... The NBA rules make a clumsy mistake of saying the player may "LIFT" the pivot foot making this rule legal in NBA. Very illogical according to rules surrounding pivoting but until NBA changes that rull from "lifting" to "jumping" it is not a travel in USA.
Quote me the FIBA travelling rule that this breaks. Do they say that you can't lift your pivot before shooting?
@@CoachFrikki Yes it does say it. You can find it in the FIBA rulebook on page 30 of 96 in the Art.25 under paragraph 25.2.1. (so please check it and come back on it). It says: "A player who catches the ball while standing with both feet on the floor: - To pass or shoot for a field goal, the player may JUMP off a pivot foot, but neither foot may be returned to the floor before the ball is relased from the hand(s)" ...... so basically the NBA states the same thing except instead of word JUMP OFF they say LIFT which in word of "law" has a totally different meaning but I think in spirit of the law it says what FIBA rule is saying = you have to JUMP OFF the pivot foot.
@@CoachFrikki and? did you research it? I mean if someone proves something you have been thinking is wrong, you have accept it and grow.
@@danieljoris5720 FIBA rules say you "may" jump off your pivot foot to shoot/pass.
"May" does not mean that you have to jump off your pivot. You can jump off 2 feet as well. Or not jump at all.
Still not seeing the rule that bans lifting your pivot.
@@CoachFrikki Indeed, you may jump off the pivot foot or jump off two feet. Explain me how dan you lift the pivot foot without violating the two previous statements?
