  • Having trouble getting your shot or lay-up off in the paint? Today I'm going to show you the most lethal move to freeze a defender in the paint especially a taller one, the jump stop. You see this move done a lot by Stephen Curry, Ja Morant, and Trae Young. They are so lethal and quick that they can get a floater or fadeaway off on any defender!

      Not entirely. If you gather the ball and jumped off one foot into a jump stop, you need to jumped off both feet to shoot. However, if you jumped off one foot and picked up the ball while both feet are off the floor then lands on both feet simultaneously then you can choose which foot will be the pivot foot but you need to shoot the ball before the pivot comes back down.

    • @genesmith3582
      @genesmith3582 9 месяцев назад

      there is nuance to this rule and some shitty refs will call it a travel automatically. Johnanthony is correct, it's entirely about when the ball is gathered. Gathering into the jump stop still allows a pivot foot.

    1st step (1-leg), you avoid the defender, and then 2nd step land on BOTH feet, and then immediately bounce off the ground with BOTH feet (pro hop), legal? Or travel?

      Legal in NBA and high level Basketball(FIBA) considering the gather step. Not legal on any other level(College, high school...) because there is no gather/zero step allowed. If u go 1 step then jump stop, your jump stop is your 2nd step.

      Ah yes but you forgot to read *Rule 10, Section XIII, Paragraph B3* which states: "A player who comes to a stop on step one when both feet are on the floor or *touch the floor simultaneously* may pivot using *either* foot as his pivot."
      But in reality, it's only a travel if it is called by the referee. When you win in basketball, you have to win on the basketball side AND the officiating side.

    I will hate the NBA forever for allowing people to "legally" change pivot feet. Well it's legal in the NBA but no one in a pickup game has to respect that. 60 years of basketball fundamentals into the toilet. Okay, but I don't have to watch these videos
