Cheer up David. Think of the positives already: you get to go out in the fresh air, interact with the soil, and swear a lot. And remember there are children in Africa who don't even have a metal detector.
Here for the long haul David. You’re one of life’s lights. 😊Never ever fail to cheer me up. Fingers, toes and eyes crossed you find an amazing treasure 😊
Loving this journey! Please don’t give up, I do think you need another place to go, what about a beach slapton sands was used as training for DDay so may have some good bits to find
You'll get the hang of it mate, the more time you spend swinging in the fields, the better you will get at Detecting. Don't give up easily though, it all takes time 😊
Hi David, I think you've probably already got the answers you need, but just in case...The wire needs to be wound tight around the shaft; if it's flapping around, it may give you a false signal. In regard to the pinpoint mode of the detector; the Garrett 250 has a small circle towards the centre of the coil. When you press (and hold) the pinpoint button on the controls, you need to imagine an invisible cone or carrot shape coming out from underneath the small circle. As you move the coil over the area where you believe the metal to be, you'll see a LCD gauge go up and down on your controls (I think there will also be a related sound). Where the metal signal is strongest, the noise and gauge will show you where you should focus your dig and also a depth. I tend to move the coil left and right as well as forwards and backwards a little bit. If you've got a signal that is strong and disappears within a couple of inches you'll have found something the size of a coin. Horse shoes, hooks and pointy things have signals that (for me) appear to have spike all over the place. Also, before I dig I will normally put the thin end of the pinpointer on the grass lid; you may find the metal is close enough to the surface to get a better idea of location. The pinpointer you have is much better than mine, so this suggestion would be even more beneficial for you. It may be worth throwing a coin on the floor and trying all the steps. You'll know when you've found something good, because the signal will consistently sound each time you go over it.
What a great little find! Needs a shoutnoutnon the pod! Just stumbled across rhis by accident but i am huge biscuit. Crunch crunch. Great viewing after binging detectorists
I started metal detecting last summer; haven’t found anything great yet😂 Of course I have found a lot of nails, screws, bolts etc. Did find an old cows bell (my most exciting find) This year I have joined a metal detecting group, and hope to learn more during this summer. Don’t give up! You have just started👍😃 Love your videos!!
I’ve never seen Derek, but I’ve watched all the outtakes many times….simply brilliant! Get yourself detecting, I started late last year and it’s great. Still finding crap like David though 😂
Treat yourself to a clip on lapel mic and a dead cat windshield Mr Earl. Love these eps regardless of the fact it’s triggering my inner sound engineer. Keep on detecting!
Congrats on being the only person in the world to keep their finds in a deal or no deal box. Love this channel. I reiterate my offer for you to come down to one of my permissions. I live in Devon.. 😂
I cannot wait for you to get out in the field again it's feckin comedy gold 🤣 I really think you should take Joe out one day to be your spade caddy 🤣 also I'm seriously going to Rethink my RUclips channel format, after setting up my channel a few months ago and having only currently 49 followers I think I should just copy you're format of having no feckin idea, absolute genius. I also think you should ignore everyones tips and work it out for yourself because that makes for a better watch 🤣👍🏻 Love it, get some more vids fired out David 🤣👍🏻👍🏻
Legend! Keep going matey! I have zero idea about this stuff but it’s fun watching somebody learn something new for the first time. 👍 Just an idea, but why don’t you see if you can do some detecting around those mental ww2 tunnels with the chap from chatabix? Could be fun and obviously you would know that some funky shizzle went down around that area? Win-win-win 🤔
I love this stuff mate, it’s very cosy - keep it up! But at the same time, PLEASE BRING BACK CUMBO OR REUPLOAD THE COVID VLOGS. I BEG YOU. with love ❤️
I remember David saying it's basically cos he doesn't want his kids stumbling upon Cumbo, which is fair enough. Aaaabsolute tragedy, but it's fair enough.
@@Lewiiiiiiiis Tragedy is right. What if Coogan tabled Partridge, Gervais abandoned Brent, or DaVinci scrapped the bloody Mona Lisa for fear of embarrassment? Cumbo is a comedic archetype that feels uniquely brilliant to me - and to you it seems. There really is something special there. The Covid vlogs were a really important laugh for me in such a horrible time. Would be a shame to think all that’s left of Cumbo is the three or four pieces left online 😞
Hi david, dont know how flexible you are or if your up for it but if you fancy a trip out with me i have a range of metal detectors and am free to show you a few tips. I found a roman hoard 4 years ago in wales and it made the news a couple of moths ago and id be happy to take you there and get you your first roman. Let me know 🙃👍
@@finger3181 Yes, the circular coil at the bottom makes a beep when in detects metal moving anywhere above and below the coil. Usually its detecting stuff you are sweeping the coil over, ie, coins in the ground, but if you move metal above the coil, that also makes a beep. Hope that makes sense. So your cable going down to the coil, if its loose it will cause a beep, if its tightly wrapped, its fine
Hi Dave, if that's the only field you can use why don't you drive to different beaches in the UK and look there once more confident. Maybe in the evening when less busy.
Figure out the button that turns the bloody coil on the detector into a pinpointer. It will look like a target. Instead of beeping when the coil passses over the target , when pressed the beep will change to a continued tone that will get louder when over target . Thus pinpointing it. And better still you’ll dig smaller holes and old mates field will look less like the western front of 1916. And get your coil flatter and closer to the ground . The more air between it and the dirt the less dirt it’s scanning. Dig every target.. EVERY TARGET. Until you can tell the difference. Disregard what viewers may say sounds like a nail or a screw . It could just as easily be something valuable. We all start from the same place. Watch vids of people using the same machine. Learn it inside out then for Christ sake do yourself a favour and upgrade to a minelab. Enjoying the journey so far. 😊
My mum was on deal or no deal- they send spys into the contestant hotel to obtain information to bring up on the show and Noel Edmonds only drinks summer fruits squash
I feel your pain at not understanding new things, but seriously mate at least find a diagram showing the components of a metal detector! Knowing which is the handle end could prove beneficial.

I love these episodes. Beautifully edited too. A joy to watch. I'm here for the journey, the longer the better. Beep beep, crunch crunch.

I never thought a fumbling, grumbling, bearded man could be so entertaining. Please keep doing this.
We’re all with you brother!

I’m actually getting inspired to start detecting 😂
Excited to watch you get your first coin 🤞🏼
Btw the bloopers from derek in the caravan are the best

Everybody take it all in - David without a cap. Genially clicked all the buttons.
Haha! There will be something in your field! I am local in Devon too. Do not hesitate. More than happy to help. 👍🏻
*might not be a hoard 😂 might be a button or a coin, but there WILL be something.

got one, prefer the mic down jumper tbph
So so original and honest, I love it and wish you every success.
Love it David! My offer still stands if you want someone to show you the ropes in person 😂🙏🏻
Love this channel mate!
Absolutely bloody love this. I'm in this for the long haul.
Seeing this pop up in my RUclips feed has made my week
Dig in David, this is a group effort now, we’ll find that gold. Get some DDC merch on the go, in camo obviously. You also need a club badge!
Loving this David, keep it up,has me in stitches whilst learning to detect😂🤩
I hope you keep this up because I'm really enjoying these
Keep going David ! I’m loving the videos it’s showing your progress xx
Love this. I can wait for the gold, like I waited for the PL. It will be glorious when it happens.
Here for that moment in 2028
He'll be living in Antigua as a surfing and beach volleyball coach by then

So much more clearer now david 😂
Hi David I'm here for watching you learn and struggle; any gold would just be a bonus. Keep fumbling in the dark baby
Lovely stuff longer eps please!!!
Great ep, feel like I’m learning with you. 👍🏻
Kept expecting the "thats what she said" jingle!
Il happily watch this for 4 years no problem your funny as F
Who knows, someone may have lost their Anglo-Saxon belt buckle in that field
Absolutely loving this.

Lovely little ep
Please make these videos longer!
Im buzzing for your first ring pull
Same.
No, the pinpoint button on the detector!
If we can get through the early episodes of Chatabix then we can wait a few years for some gold. With you all the way David
Yes, wrap wire around the shaft, the wobbly wire is picked up by the detector and gives false signals
It flapping and tapping the shaft will give a false signal too

4:03 has proper done me 😂
When you get carried away and this becomes alarmingly serious, you have your catchphrase
'and let's find some gold together'
I know it’s irrelevant to the video, but you’re looking very well, 😂definitely lost some timber (not that you had too), love all the work you do 😊
Why don't you talk to Mackenzie Crook?? Or get him on. Surely he picked up some good tips and knowledge doing the TV show. 😊
I really like these. Are local beaches off limits?
I’m in for the long ride on this one and I know it’ll pay off….
Get out into that fooking field son 👊🏼
Lots of love x
Hair's looking fresh, boss!
Little Richie Herring’s stone clearing and now this……..what a life! 😂😂
If you want a few trips to farm fields in Mid Wales let me know!
Im not going anywhere! We are finding gold no matter how long it takes !
Get a specialist on the Bix and get them to show you the ins and outs.
Gold (gold)
Always believe in your soul
You've got the power to know
You're indestructible
Always believe in, 'cause you are
Gold (gold)
I'm in for the long haul. Looking forward to the day when you hit a coin hoard 🙂
Alright here’s my offer - you acknowledge Cumbo exists, I stay subscribed and watch you potter around a field failing to find metal indefinitely
David’s got the hair of a school boy 😄
Hi Dave, if that's the only field you can use why don't you drive to different beaches in the UK and look there once more confident. Maybe in the evening when less busy.
I could tell you were underwhelmed by the dond boxes at the time 😂
Beep, beep, beep..I’m on
Come out on a club dig, I'll happily show you the basics to get you going. I don't think we're a million miles away from each other
The looks to camera, we know what to say :)
Imagine finding a horse shoe on "the gallops" there are turds in my toilet older than that shoe. Crunch crunch
Never forget, one man's stem is another man's shaft
you're one of those people who's hair always looks good no matter what. i am jealous.

Your watch looks fancy.
About time, I thought you'd jacked it in
We will wait 😂
My mum was on deal or no deal- they send spys into the contestant hotel to obtain information to bring up on the show and Noel Edmonds only drinks summer fruits squash
Paul Gorton had already told them that Noel had moles amongst the contestants
Keep at it, try local parks, you will soil yourself when you find your first coin.
Illegal unfortunately.
Great. Now get back out there mate!
You could try a beach instead 🤷♂️
Have you got another youtube channel, kind of familiar 🤔
I too prefer Shaft 😜😂😂
thats what she said!
@@therealjamjar Badumtiss , i thank you 😜
Wasn't this a gossip mongers story? A man walking around a farmers field with his shaft in one hand and a carrot in the other!
Why don't you pay to go on a guided session, best way to learn
I want to help you David
After a joint, this is the best thing to watch. ❤
You are very sweet 💗
