Was worried you'd given up. I really think you should take that author's advice and contact your local club just to go out with someone who can show you the way. He said it doesn't mean you need to always go out with them, just get you on your way. You'll love it once you've got it!
And then, dear listener, David did find something in that field. He found hope, and purpose. He found patience and perseverance. But most of all, he found himself. Fin.
🤣 oh mate, you are just bloody great 🤣. as a content creator myself, this video is basically EVERY youtuber when the camera ISNT on 🤣. the most real stuff I've ever scene 👍
Nothing to do with metal detecting but I absolutley love Brian & Charles its one of my faviroute films..the writing is pure genius and the acting was great I found myself feeling sorry for a washing machine with a mannequin head after Eddie had stolen him and when Charles leaves at the end to go on his trip I started chokeing up aswell ....brilliant
Welcome to the hobby, David. It is indeed a frustrating one sometimes, but when you find that gold coin, it will all be worth it. It really is all about perseverance and patience. You live in one of the best places in the world to find all kinds of amazing history and treasures. It will come with time. I always thought it would have been great to see you in an episode or two of "Detectorists." Love your comedic style, makes me smile and burst out laughing every time I see you in something on the teley. Keep at it. P.S. if you place your pin pointer end on the ground when you turn it on it will ground balance itself. Could have been a very mineralized area you were in. A Canadian friend, Cheers!
You're an inspiration to those who don't know whether to give something new a try. We all have to be beginners for something and you're showing confidence to look silly even if you don't know what you're doing. That gives me and others hope. I love these videos. I've literally been checking back daily to see if you've uploaded. Don't leave it so long!! ❤
David, just re-read the carrot instructions carefully, and test it at home to be sure youve got it working before you leave. Dont stop, we love these videos. Or find an alternative carrot thats easier to use. Keep plugging away at it. (Thats what she said)
That is a great book. Don't forget you can retune the Garrett Pinpointer on those strange LARGE targets. Turn it on and put the pinpointer into the soil and turn it on. Also don't detect near the electric fence in the last clip with the horses. You really need a local detectorist to go out with you. Also ask the farmer if he has a ploughed unseeded field you can hunt. Make sure you refill the holes though nice and tidy.
Absolutely brilliant, the timing of everything in the video, peaking with the message at the end. I'd say you've planned it all 😂😂😂 Please notnow I've written this in a manner not to give anything away! Top work sir.
I barely used my pinpointer the weekend, I just lay the coil next to the hole and literally just grab chunks of earth and wave it in front of the coil, if it does t beep it goes back in the hole. If it beeps, separate the clump and repeat the process.
Right listen up, Earl. I’ve spent a shed load of money at LP because of you so don’t you go giving up! I rely on your ffs and sighs to keep me going - let’s learn together!
Also, a few years ago Trunk Records released an amazing compilation of obscure Incidental/Children's T.V/Soundtrack music, mostly from the 1960's - 1970's. It's called Fuzzy Felt Folk (you may already be familiar with it?) and most of what's on there is weirdly unhinged. Your chosen ditties that accompany these vids remind me of this record. Check it out maaaaan. See ya.
David, I also have problems with my new carrot but as I’ve used Garrett equipment in the past (and suffered the same fate you are) I now understand how it works. For me i usually have to turn mine on and off at least twice for it to work properly. I think it’s to do with how the battery locks in to the port. For some reason a quick on and off and it’s good to go. Hope this helps
Find this so amusing as I know I would be exactly the same as David is. No patience, getting frustrated with the ‘technology’ and packing up, going home hacked off. Keep it up though David, you’re still very much in the novice stage.
Myself and dad have been metal detecting for approx 5 months now. We live in dorset, come along with us one day and we will find some epic relics .. or nails 😂
Worth a mention, but David, on Chatabix when you opened the carrot from Joe, you said the packaging was already opened. Is there any chance they shipped out a faulty return to you? It's worth seeing if you can get a new in box never used one to see if that's any different?
Hi David. I'm really sad that you're finding this demoralising. Lots have people have commented that you should join a local group...I wouldn't bother; you're in the very fortunate position that you have thousands of fans who'd jump at the chance to give some advice or tuition (myself included (although I'd want you to sign my shaft in payment)). Your pinpointer is one of the best, although maybe a cheaper one would be easier to use. I'm here if you want any advice 👌🏻
I’ve never known anyone get mad when their machine makes a noise! That’s exactly what you want. As I’ve previously said, get yourself in a club with some experienced folk to guide you.
Packs kit, drives, unpacks kit, gets annoyed, “fuck this”, goes home. This is every bloke in the world when we take up something our wives say is shit, but we’ll be out tomorrow regardless just to prove her wrong
Hating inanimate objects from the absolute core of your soul for their disgusting obnoxious way of not working as you expected! ... yep me and you are kindred spirits Mr Earl
When you buy something to do a job and it doesn't do its job OR, even worse, something that has you running about after it or demanding passwords and batteries! I'd rather live in a hedge.
Should visit Victoria Australia, the golden triangle. Been detecting for20 years. Found nothing but tin, coins. Brothers have found gold, but me, not so good.
Ive been detecting for about 6 years and some days can be frustrating but when you find something half decent you forget the rest of the time , as for the carrot its a good bit of kit and im not your why yours keeps going off unless theres a lot of iron in the ground
If electronic devices can interfere with the carrot.... could it be the camera? Or radio signal from the mic? do mics use radio signals? .... maybe have the camera further away?
Frustrating days happen. 😊 I’m not on Twitch but you can always ask for help I’m also in Devon. At the end of your vid, your carrot was making three beeps every minute or so. It was saying ‘you’ve left me switched on. Please turn me off david’. On the first hole you dug, it was beeping on everything you touched. That may be because there were minerals like tiny particles of iron in the ground there. If this happens, Try ‘ground balancing’ the carrot - hold the carrot, switched on, to a patch of Earth and press the black button briefly. It seems to chill it out as it then knows there is mineralisation in the ground and accounts for it.
@@DavidEarlDetects like BetterHelp for detectorists in soothing tones. Not the worst idea you e ever had! Also, there’s no way you’re finding the Staffordshire hoard in Devon. You my friend are gonna find the Devonshire Big One! Keep going, keep going.

The redemption arc when David finds the Exmoor Hoard is going to be the best payoff RUclips has ever seen.

Please don't give up David. I think you can push through this hump, I want to see you "get it".
Keep going mate, you created a bloody good robot, you can beat this carrot.
The carrot would go nuts for Charles.
@mattpepper1906 The Carrot could be a new 'part' for him 😂
@Gizzzzzy what part would it be? 👀
The sound of birdsong between ragged breaths is beautiful
Terrible carrot, hideous Uggs. Poor old Joe has an awful gifting record.

David, loving the videos by why is this only available in 480p quality?
Maybe going for an authentic camcorder experience? Some of my best memories take place in 480p and are captured on 2003.

Hey! I was concerned you had stopped making videos! If metal detecting does wear thin, try beach combing or fossil hunting! Just as satisfying!
