  • Kyle, Alyssa, and Patrick head out in Patrick's Hummer EV to take on the Rustic Ring! Less towing capacity than Silverado EV but with the 24 module - roughly 215kWh usable battery pack, it really packs a punch in our towing challenge. Enjoy!

    On my recent 10k mi R1S road trip I did the whole Out of Spec tour: drove the rustic ring, saw your CT at the power house, charged at cum&go in Wellington, drove the RAM off road course, visited Buc-ee's, and drove through I70 and Utah to Vegas. 😁

    Isn’t it interesting how we thought the hummer EV was big, ridiculous, and expensive (all true) but now that it’s been out a while and tested it’s just actually good? The size of the battery and tech on that vehicle will definitely future-proof it for a while on the used market also.

    It would be so nice if you could get a trailer that had motors on it for regen purposes only, and a high voltage line going to the EV to charge the batteries. So trailer braking would act as additional regen braking.

    • @steinwaymodelb
      @steinwaymodelb 18 дней назад +1

      Any regen energy captured by the trailer motors would reduce the energy captured by the truck motors. This would only have a benefit if the total regen capacity of the truck was not capable of slowing the rig down and one had to use friction brakes.

    • @ChristmasEve777
      @ChristmasEve777 18 дней назад +1

      @@steinwaymodelb But friction braking from the trailer is even worse. If your EV can do ALL the braking, even better. But if the load is too much for just the EV's motors to slow it down then my comment is still accurate. Might as well regen instead of friction braking from the back.

    • @theichione1827
      @theichione1827 18 дней назад

      Regen with the regen paddle probably would have been higher had "one pedal driving" been set to off.

  • @Defender_Tom
    @Defender_Tom 18 дней назад +2

    It’s crazy the 1,000hp Edition 1 can only tow 7,500lbs but the weaker 800hp version (2x trim) is allowed to tow 12,000 lbs.

    • @TroySavary
      @TroySavary 18 дней назад +6

      Not crazy at all. The smaller battery and 1 less motor makes it lighter, therefore legally able to support a higher payload, and therefore higher towing, without bumping gross vehicle weight into a higher class.

    I have a 2023 Model X Plaid and the hitch that comes with it. I was hoping to see the video of it towing on the Rustic Ring. Are you planning to post that one? Thanks Kyle.

  • @theichione1827
    @theichione1827 18 дней назад +1

    Just guessing but to max out regen without friction brake intervention, one probably has to use the regen paddle while “one pedal driving” is set to off.

  • @screenPhiles

    The differences in weight you note when the Hummer is going up a hill and towing isn't relevant in terms of comparison especially since the Hummer has a lower tow rating than the Cybertruck and Rivian.
    So while the amount of weight the Hummer is towing is less than those two vehicles, it's approaching its maximum.
    In other words, it's not the Hummer's fault that apparently the Cybertruck should have been rated for towing less, since the Hummer climbed the with ease, while the Cybertruck did not.

    Towing and payload are limited because of gross vehicle weight. The vehicle could easily handle more, but that would puah it into a higher vehicle weight class.

  • @newscoulomb3705
    @newscoulomb3705 18 дней назад +1

    Thanks for the Rustic run, Kyle! I still think the charge port location is fine. If you're not towing, you can back into stalls, and if you are towing, anything that's not a pull-through stall is going to be less convenient no matter what (for you or for others trying to navigate the chargers or parking lot). I honestly think the Rivian R1T's charge port location was one of the biggest misses for that vehicle design, especially because Rivian is now building their Adventure Network around that format. I give it 5 years max before every automaker adopts a driver side rear charge port for their EV trucks.

    • @TroySavary
      @TroySavary 18 дней назад +4

      The Cybertruck overheated brakes coming down the same hill because the regen couldn't keep up and the friction brakes are undersized. Even empty, when Cybertruck was filming Silverado EV doing this, the Silverado slowed the trailer with just regen, while the empty Cybertruck still needed the friction brakes. So Cybertruck obviously can't effectively tow the weight Tesla claimes it can. Elon probably arbitrarily chose a number he thought sounded good without adequate testing.

    More impractical toys for the rich. A GIANT EV that can only two 7500lbs for a very limited range? All for show! And not even a reliable vehicle! They just stop moving and go dead suddenly with no warning. Many reports. Why do a tow test on a vehicle where 99% of the buyers will NEVER tow anything. Imagine how often and the cost those tires need to be replaced with that kind of weight? See and be seen. No summary of how much state of charge used? And towing the smallest car possible! 40 minutes until they actual drive the RR! And it's Summer and 80s and 90s in Colorado. Snow in the mountains I know. But they never leave the vehicle! Why does he ALWAYS wear a heavy grungy sweat hoodie? 🤔🤔🤷🏻‍♂🤷🏻‍♂🤦🏻‍♂🤦🏻‍♂😎😎
