£1 a Man CANAL Knock-Up MATCH FISHING on the Aire & Calder

- This week I'm back on the Aire and Calder Canal with a few of the Yorkshire Bandit Angling Club mates for a little match fishing knock-up and a £1 a man at stake.
Tactics for this one were to setup 3 lines of attack and start out by feeder fishing for bream, a long pole line to target roach and skimmers and a whip line at 5m hemp fishing for roach.
Bream fishing on the Aire and Calder navigation can be hit and miss so to try and tempt these fish into the swim I opt to utilise a low feed content fishmeal groundbait and plenty of chopped worm.
Pole fishing for roach on the other hand, the groundbait mix is cereal based 50/50 silver-x and black turbo as I often find the roach don't like fishmeal, this mix has plenty of particle and is quite sticky allowing me to pack even more free offerings in and get it down to the bottom.
The whip line would simply be loose fed with hemp and caster and fished on a light 4x14 drop through rig.
So which methods would produce the fish? Would the bream make an appearance and more importantly, will my canal fishing tactics be on point and allow me to take £1 off each man?

TIGHT LINES! Спорт
What a truly outstanding knock up. Make you scratch you head on a match day, we’re do they all go😂
Well DONE MATE GOOD FISHING AGAIN.
99% Of my fishing is feeder and I only use cage feeders best fun ever. John my budget is tight when I go fishing due to the fact that I'm out of work at the moment . I tend to keep away from tackle shops unless I need maggots or ground bait. Breadcrumb I buy from polish stores and I buy animal feed and cerials from Tesco's for adding to ground bait. Next year I am going to try marsh mellows and jelly bears . Great video mate well done.
Well done for keeping going and being resourceful Robert. Fishing doesn't have to be expensive, although match fishing isn't cheap, the entry and pools and getting steep these days as people want to win big money. Of course that attracts a lot of top class sponsored anglers which makes competing difficult and expensive for the average working man. I hope you find gainful employment soon if you are fit and able. Tight lines friend 🎣
Nice 👍
Epic canal action that mate 👌
Thanks Andrew 👍, wasn't a bad day was it 😉 Tight Lines mate 🎣

Didn’t realise I had my own catch shot pose 😂😂 nice nets of fish, brilliant fishing down there at moment 👍
LOL Kayleigh, I wasn't referring to you, rather Mr Keeley who got a bit of grief from the club lads for posing with some trout. Thanks for watching and enjoy your vids likewise, keep up the great work. 🎣
I know I'm kind of off topic but do anybody know a good website to watch newly released tv shows online?
@Wilson Lucca Try flixzone. Just google for it =)
Nice one, looks like the fishing is going well down there. Might have to make a trip down and give it a go!
You should!
hi john ,seems a nice place to fish, inside line, mid line and far bank lots of fish .good video as always thank you .stan in sunny california .
Thanks for watching Stan, keep applying the sun cream and the beers chilled out there ☀️😎🕶️🎣🦈
proper match fishing.... the carp filled muddy puddles are fun but they are a bit synthetic..... this is real . .. .. .. the feeder and bream always took the money on these kinda matches...but you have to have the patience to persevere... not easy when the next peg is smashing out roach every chuck.... well done enjoyable vid to watch...
Thanks bud. Yes, I spent most of the day watching the boys pulling in fish after fish on the whip, I had to have a go on it, but then just went back on the feeder to cement it.
Tares are brill, feed two on top of float evert cast
nice fishing well done john some good bream eh
Thanks Tony, yes love a slab-a-dab-a-doo or two😁
Great video John....Wish our canal fished this well at the weekend,8 drams was good enough for 3rd place 😂😂😂
Oh wow that's a hard day! We all have them 😉 Tight Lines bud 🎣
Good video friend
Thanks bud, tight lines 👍
Top angling John 👍
Thanks Mike, Tight Lines pal.🎣
Fantastic net of fish by all John. Another great video. The section you fished is that covered by YDAA book. 🎣
Hi Phil, thanks. Yes it's covered by the YDAA book.
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel cheers John. Will have to give it a go.
@@philwilkinson5480 add me in Facebook bud and PM me.
Cracking vid John, I've never fished this venue but would love to. There's not many canals that give so many method choices. Most are pole dominated. Tight lines mate 👍🏻 🎣
Thanks Mark, yes the A&C is large enough to support a variety of methods, I've even known the stick and bolo to work when it's running hard. Keep baggin bud 🎣
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel wow during the vid watching you on the Tip. I even thought the slider might work. 👍🏻
Nice video good net of fish but don't like to see bream dropped from a hight use your landing net
best video you've done mate , some lovely bream on the feeder and a lovely setting
Many thanks, it always helps to make a nice video when the fish are feeding and the sun is shining 😎
Great vid John cracking day is that mirfeild streatch
Hi Anthony, no it's not Whitley, it's closer to Goole.
That’s a great video one of your best . Where on the canal were you and who’s water is it
Thanks for the kind comments David. I'm sorry, I can't say where I was but the fishing is widely available.
Cracking bags John by all
I’ve only fished the stanie but may have to have a look at the aire at some point
Thanks Daz, it's not too dissimilar to the Stainy, a bit larger and slightly deeper overall , there's always a tow on that runs west to east.
very enjoyable john and well done on winning. were you fishing braid and a leader?
Thanks Gloria, no I was just fishing 5lb browning cenex feeder mono straight through to 0.14 hooklength and matrix SW feeder hook. It's not a big chuck so bite detection isn't an issue at this time of year with a light tip in and I prefer the cushioning on mono when I can fish it as it results in less hook pulls when they start thrashing around under the rod tip.
Hi john - how about this - last Wednesday we had a knock up in that area and I caught a 3/4 SEA TROUT on two red with plenty of witnesses
Another cracking video John - thanks very much! Do you come across any tench on that stretch of the A&C?
Cheers Anthony. I've never had a tench on the AC, Stainy seems to be a better bet in summer for em but we'll be on the river 😉
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel Cheers John - thanks for the response!
As ever matey, you're welcome.
feeder 2 start inside looks roachy for apeak on caster :) GL lol
It's teeming with fish. Thanks for watching Paul 👍
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel lol 10 mins in sorry feeder all day :) a canal mans DREAM nice catch
@@paulbest5615 absolutely, doesn't often happen, had to keep my eye on the boys bagging roach though.
Wonderful fishing for you guys.
Who’s stretch of the A&C is it ?.
Myself and 2 friends have fished the A&C all through the winter and struggled.
Great video as usual.
Thanks Neil, sorry I can't say where it is but there's plenty of it 😉, I'm sure you'll find the fish soon enough.
Radcliffe or Pollington or Beal. Its one of them.
nice vid just a bit dark, brightness needs turning up john
Seriously?? It looks fine on all my devices and it was a sunny day later on. I have no control over the brightness except in post and with variable light conditions over the course of a day that's way too much extra editing! I'd suggest checking the settings on whatever you're watching on, maybe you're in cinema mode or something?
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel yeah honest, i was on cinema mode but if i go to standard still same, you cant change settings on you tube to alter brightness my end, i had this with another you tuber and he changed setting on his camera and then was fine on all his vids
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel like your vids tho john, especially the live match ones, keep em up pal
John was this knock up last week? I was expecting to see the canal water level lower due to repairs to canal bank further back.
It was 2 weeks ago, they had the pumps running in, level was a bit low but plenty of depth to go at.
What sort of depth of water are you fishing in?
7.5ft on the feeder and whip line, 10ft at 14m on long pole.
That place looks awsome, love that kind of fishing. Any chance you could tell me where and who's water it is. I know it's the Aire n Calder Navigation, but thats a lot of searching pal!
Sorry buddy, I can't say where I was, I'd get shot but there's plenty of spots that are just as good on the A&C. Those fish won't be there for much longer anyway 😉
Welcome to another episode of f***ked? 0:03
🤣yorkshire dialect 😉
Do you need a key to access that stretch by any chance?
No key required.
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel OK mate cheers I know where it is, I've never fished it before, have you any thoughts on why they shoal up there at that time of year. I've walked that bit but never really thought much of it really, its just out in the middle of nowhere really. I love fishing the A&C few spots I've found where fish seem to shoal up in numbers at certain times but I've never worked out why.
Cheers
Rich
@@richardbeadle3945 I think they were trying to get to Southfield to spawn but the coffer dam was in place, it got removed in August. Strangely enough as of yesterday it sounds like the canal has breached again, so who knows they may put a dam back in place and if they do, I'll be making my way there come spring.
@@HOOKEDFishingChanneloh yeah of course forgot about the dam, I heard it breached again today not as bad though so I heard, its been very odd seeing the canal so low this year. I normally fish from Pollington down to Southfield, mostly perch lure fishing. Loving the vids by the way it's great seeing some local venues, gives a real insight, keep them coming
