well fished John from a unfancied area, you did the best you could . Think your due a decent draw mate your still in with a fighting chance of winning the league.
Good production and a frustrating day....possibly try a bait dropper to get the maggots/hemp on the bottom on the long pole line, forcing the bigger fish to the bottom, rather than loosefeed in that depth of water?
Thought youd taken up cycling or summat , well done though , reminded me of the northbank near peterborough a bit , might have hit 8 lb with the one that got away, great vid as always .
Great vid mate, good to see you back. Made the most of a tough day, shallow might have worked but those skimmers were worth catching on the tip. Nicely done pAL.
Cheers John, feeder tends to find the bream but pole can be much faster when the fish are on that line - it just hasn't been the case for me recently but you can't discount it without trying. Some people caught bream on the pole line🤷♀️
I was hoping that first skimbob wasn’t a false dawn. Well fished I think you fished it to its potential, as ever a difficult decision pole with sprats or gamble on the tip for a bream. Superb production as usual cheers 🍺
Well done John you fished a tidy match, it's all but's and maybe's if you had fished feeder start to finish may have had a slightly better weight who knows?
Yeah we'll never know for sure - I just aim to beat either side of me which I did as that's usually a good indicator of how well you fished in your micro area.
superbly explained what you were doing john, and another superb vid. thank you. moving up the leage ay! were you fishing braid on feeder? regards mick,
Great video John. I'm getting a book this year to fish aire and calder. Are there any areas where you can park with a short walk. I hear at rawcliffe you can to down lane to sugar mill ponds and park right on canal? Any other places where can park next to canal? Cheers mate.
Most access points are close to the canal, Rawcliffe yes you can park alongside it, as you enter drive left for narrows, right for wides. Heck is similar for parking too, couple of access points both on the canal, in main car park and at the blue bridge. The YDAA website shows most of them, you don't have to walk far if you're pleasure fishing. Pollington boats section is probably most difficult access due to the steep ramp.
pretty even looking venue that.. im wondering with a wide venue like that with very generous peg spacing.. you still pole cup your groundbait into a tiny precise area..? id be inclined to spread it out a bit maybee throw the balls in freehand making a bigger bait area to attract and hold passing fish perhaps..? i would have liked to see you try a bomb or mini feeder on your pole line..the bream can prefer it nailed onto the deck... there must have been a few there.... and those micro bites on the tip.. i used to just jangle the line a bit.. this can induce bites... .. and try a fingernail size flat piece of bread this can snare the old wiry 4lb bream thats lurking... .. anyway just a few ideas... keep the vids coming i love em....
The problem with balling in on the A&C is that the fish will sit off the back of the feed after a while - chuck it too too far and you can't get to them on the pole - it just makes life harder. Food for thought with all the other methods but please bear in mind I have limited time to set up and have to get the cameras setup and intro filming done before the start. Bread may well be something to try in future, I'll take it on board. I often try twitching the feeder, I just don't always show it in the edits. Thanks for your continued support👍
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel its hard for me to comment without sounding like a blooming knowall.. but im sitting here watching.. wanting you to WIN.... and like to offer a few suggestions... if ya wernt so far away from N.Kent id come fish a match with you.. .. the silvers scratching to me is PROPER match fishing... i returned back to fishing during lockdown.. and still crave the competition a bit... ... i dont think it ever leaves us... lol...
i reckon you should have stayed ont skimmer line john with a bit more crumb, john its time now to blend some bread up and fish for roach on punch magic this time of year, worth a try?
Maybe so John, guess we'll never know though I spent the best part of 3.5hrs on the feeder. I've never done any good with bread on the A&C, I don't know why, but I might have to try it again, just maybe go for a practice with it one day before committing to it in a match.
Oh well. You'll have to draw with your other hand, might get a better peg. The pegs near the ponds are thick with roach as that's where all the pleasure anglers are heaving feed in.
I tried that the other week - it didn't help🤣Tried my 'lucky' t shirt, pants and socks too but lady luck deserted me. Just gone back to dip and grab 😉 I was told the pegs in the marina had produced some very good bags 30+lb and even a 70 during the week, (just below where Pete and Clive were other side of the bridge).
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel Hi John, mainly tackle I don’t think we had carbon fibre rod’s then never saw any,big advantage now I remember after a days fishing my arms were really aching
Cheers James, this one was two weeks before the Don - there's normally 10 days between me fishing and putting a video up but I'm well behind at present - editing like mad to catch up, just as well the Swale and Don were rubbish so I don't have those to do as well🤣
So unlucky John lad.Thought you were on a winner after first fish.Halfway through match swap and change only way to get bites.Seems wind change made big difference. But well up the table, keep it going mate.
Creeping up the league after a a disastrous start to the season with a low place finish at Lindholme 1st match - didn't have time to set cameras up (just wasn't on the carp and only caught skimmers) and then a DNW at Aston after breaking my pole. TBH I'd written off getting anywhere close to a trophy position so I just need a few decent results now to drop my bad ones, (best 7 from 10 matches count to the league).
I don't regret the caster decision, I had to grab bait 2 days in advance so didn't fancy keeping them that long. I do wish i tried hemp shallow though - can't stop thinking, there could have been some good roach up in the water - I know they're notoriously difficult to hook but sometimes they'll just have it and I think that might have been one of those days - end of the warm weather - next time eh.
Chub are few and far between on the A&C - I've heard of them at Heck but not at Rawcliffe - the far bank tends to mirror the inside so around 8ft deep and you are more likely to catch perch than anything else though the roach and bream can sometimes turn up. I watched JW fish right across and he wasn't really catching.
Can't help thinking those big dog roach might have been up shallow nicking all the bait - something to try in future - but only when they're topping like they were that day.
Yes maybe, but things play on your mind afterwrds and I'm still wondering if I should have at least tried hemp shallow on the long pole - next time I see them like that I'm definitely having a rig setup to give it a go.
well the tea leaves prediction was about 8lb out at that rate , 13 meters is hard work for small roach it's not too bad if you can get em to come in to a whip line and swing the little buggers in . 👍 anyway you'll be pleased to know no more tea leaves predictions as your that far behind with your editing of your films you'll already know the results . 🤣🤣🤣🤣

A few more gruellers but things have been looking up lately Dennis, I'll be churning the vids out as fast as I can edit them.

Thanks James, I'll keep on truckin👍
Good to see you back John….Dougie the Tip 🎣🏴
Thanks Dougie, it's nice to have internet again 🤣 Back in the 21st century.
Never mind John, still a great video as always.Awesome camera work as well showing different angles.

Thanks Gaz, I hope so too 🤞

I posted on FB and here - no internet to upload on, although I do have a bike 🤣🚴♂️ Yes the lost fish maybe cost me 4th place but no more.
Welldone on the section John and gud to see the channel back up and running bud 👍👍👍
Cheers Daz, good to be back online.👍

Cheers Adam, creeping up the standings despite a mid field finish in this one.
Glad to see you back, hard luck this week. You always seem to catch better quality fish on the feeder and the pole looks hard work for small fish.john

Thanks Mark much appreciated 👍
You beat both sides so cant ask for much more well done
Well done, don't think you could have done anything different 👏
I tried Phillip - still wondering if I should have fished hemp shallow TBH though 🤷♀️
You made the best of the peg you can only fish it as you see great day thight lines
Thanks David, I tried, just regret not trying shallow on the hemp🤷♂️
Well done John 👍

Hi, does the aire and Calder have the same close season as rivers ? , cheers 🎣
No close season on the canals David, you can fish them year round.
Changed a lot since I fished in the 60’s
In what way Tony - the fish or the surroundings?

Thanks Keith but shsssh til the video's out😉

Yeah I no
No worries
have you tried a lobby tight to the far bank for a bonus chub ?

has you say mate what can you do frustrating eh
Yes, I seem to have had so many sessions where the fish have been finicky this year, just got used to it now, expect the worst and hope for the best.
Is this near fishpond lock
No, access is via the lane leading from the Sugar Mills Ponds, Rawcliffe, Goole
