be boring if you won all of them, but... a great stretch..a lovely day.. and challenging on the silvers kept you busy all match.. good vid..nice music.. well done i enjoyed watching..
Thanks David, glad you enjoyed it. I was disappointed I didn't make more of my peg to be honest, but sometimes we just don't quite make the right decisions, all part and parcel of the learning experience.
I was suprised at the weigh in, it looked like you caught a lot more. Must have been your skill with the cameras that made it look that way, great video John, as always 👍
Thanks Peter, they were there for the taking, I definitely got something wrong and I think if I had my time again, I'd have setup another line 1/4 across on the feeder.
Always a pleasure to watch John.Nice tidy bait tray and accessories every thing to hand, simple but very efficient, a good lesson for other anglers. Good quality roach and dace although mother goose didn’t like you catching fish what a racket LOL. See ya on the next one great effort.
Thanks Karl. The geese drive you mad don't they, at least Mr Swan was quite well behaved and he got his nose in the groundbait bowl at the end as a reward for his patience.
A practice session would have helped me iron out the mistakes and I probably would have setup a short feeder line as well on match day, but with the cost of fuel and 180 mile round trip, it's just not an option for these club matches which payout less than the day costs.
John...Another mega vid pal....never miss your stuff mate, really devasted you didn't alter your approach after so many missed bites, am shouting at screen here.FFS John change it to win this match Never mind mate always next match to get a win, do not doubt your ability...DO IT...IAN
Thanks Ian, I did make some changes, maybe a little late a d maybe not the right ones,, shortening the hooklength didn't help and the float was very slow until late on but the fish were small. I think a maggot feeder on a short line would have been a better option but I didn't do it, lots to think about in the heat of the moment 🤷♂️
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel quite agree.....I used to fish matches late 80s.....fond moments fishing 6hr matches in the depths of winter....single pinkie threaded on a 24 hook....12oz bottom...watching the tip for the slightest knock......and to be rewarded for 1 gudgeon 🥴..to win the match 😀......it was sooooo hard..cold wind cold hands..🥶.....but a bloody brilliant experience tho........those were the days 😊..
It's a lovely bit of the Trent Keith, first time I've ever been there, not sure we got it in the best of conditions but the sun always makes the camera shots look great 🌞
Well done John another great video, those lost fish may have cost you a position or two, or even a section win, feeder fishing can be frustrating at times, some times you just have to sit on your hands to be patient. Cant wait for your next vid, Tight lines , Ian in the Borders
Thanks Ian. I tried sitting on my hands but it's hard to ignore a rattling tip, just irritating when they're smashing the bait but you can't hook them. More vids to come, but you'll have to wait a little while😉
Yes lower than I thought they would weigh Martin but the fish in the last hour were only little, should have set a short maggot feeder line up, hindsight eh.🤷♂️
brilliant video John, very frustrating when you keep missing bites but we've all been there .Keep going mate your day will come . looking forward to the next video. p.s. I second gazellis's comment on your camera positions ,spot on you can see everything . Dennis from Kent by the way Ian from the Borders is my brother.
Thanks Dennis, (from Kent), very much appreciated. Ian always leaves me lovely comments and being kind clearly runs in the family. Glad you enjoyed it, there's plenty more to come. Tight Lines 🎣
It would've Dave, but it was a downstreamer when it did blow, managed to make the stick work last hour but the fish were small, the waggler would have probably worked a little better further out as the fish were tiny on the stick line.
Unlucky John lost fish cost you.Sometimes casting a bomb can get you a few fish, but you can only fish it for 5 minutes A time then back on feeder.Thought you had cracked it early then the gremlins.Well Presented and filmed.Keep em coming mate.🎥🎣🎣🎣
Now then buddy. What a cracking video !!! Sunshine and fishing and the birds squawking at the beginning of the video sounded like I was watching Jurassic park 🤣🤣🤣……….. Love The Bait set up !!! Well organised and everything just at hand…. The expert in action & some lovely fish Top man !!!! ……. ( apart from the eel 🤮🤣😂) All the best buddy 👍🏽😁🎣
@@HOOKEDFishingChannelit’s not an easy days fishing then what with all the fishing gear and setting up all the cameras and stuff and then packing it all away !!! So much for being a relaxing sport eh 😳😧🎣🎣….. yeah when you United that eel it was done in a split second and oven never need able to do that !!! So ( don’t mean to sound thick ) do they count in the weigh in at every match and do pike as well if you accidentally catch one ?? 🤔🤔🤔
It's ridiculous the amount of kit we take to these matches, especially the Trent as it's a venue where so many methods can work on a given day and depths can vary so much even within a section. As for the eels, they count in matches, but pike don't, although some clubs do allow them, it's quite rare these days.
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel I’ve never fished a match before so thank for clearing that one up johm and it’s appreciated at this end buddy as these fishing videos fill in the gap as I done get much chance chance to get out fishing what with work and family …. But today is my birthday ( 51 years young) so I’m popping to the hairdressers to get my mop chopped ( although not much of a mop these days 🧑🦲 🤣) then I’m guna grab my ultralight lure rods and head to a river somewhere … not sure where to go … either the Swale or nidd … might just have a few inches of water in them after all these heavy rain showers !!! All the best to you though and you’re doing an amazing job. Love it 👍🏽😁🎣👍🏽😁🎣
Happy Birthday 🎉🎈Happy haircut! ✂️💇 Happy FISHING 🎣🐟. Sounds like the perfect day, especially if you get a birthday barbel😉🤞Glad you enjoy the vids mate, appreciate not everyone match fishes but there's learning to be gained from all styles of fishing than can be applied across styles, eg the use of hair rigs in match and barbel fishing is common place these days but was once seen as a carp thing. Have a great day bud. Work for me 😭
well fished though john if stayed on feeder youd a got a section . weird how points work marcus twiceyour weight but behind you seems unfair dunt it. but thats how it goes sometimes you think though go for a barbel and win match 1 fish eh?
I just wasn't hooking anything on the feeder so it's hard to say if i should have stuck with it. I prefer to be putting fish in the net - it's a bit like going the long way round traffic jam - takes ages but at least you're moving😉 The big weights came out at Lindholme, I didn't manage to get the cameras setup that day but I only caught skimmers and wasn't on the carp. It's just one match so that's why you can be well down on weight if you don't bag up on the commercials. I didn't weigh in at Aston following the breakage on my pole so I'm a result down on the leaders as well but its the best 7 results from ten to count, it will start to become a true reflection in a couple of matches time. Total weight only comes into it if tied on points at the end of the season.
Frustrating day, don't know why it was happening but dace are notorious for wriggling off the hook but definitely lost some better fish. Later on they just wouldn't bite right, I think i ended up with lots of small dace in the feeder swim so decided to get off it as I wasn't putting any in the net...maybe I should have stuck with it, but these are the decisions we're faced with when match fishing. Rob had a great net but he'd practiced the exact peg he drew the week before so knew how to approach it. It's too far for me to go to practice for a club match so just had to try and work it out on the day.
I know Neil, frustrating 🤣. Shortening off didn't help hit them and actually I think it slowed my bites off in the bright conditions so then I'm left wondering, what next 🤔
be boring if you won all of them, but... a great stretch..a lovely day.. and challenging on the silvers kept you busy all match.. good vid..nice music.. well done i enjoyed watching..
Great match John loved all the banter as allways pitty to you could not hit all the fish but that's fishing thight lines thanks

Loved it john thnx for the vid
well fished john. great video and top editing.
Thanks Mike, glad you enjoyed it, tight lines mate🎣🐟
good watch john, thanks. pity the feeder went iffy. regards mick.
Cheers Mick, yes it was a shame, there were things I could/should have done but didn't. They may or may not have paid off.🤷♂️
Unlucky John but a nice day’s fishing 👍👍
Can't complain mate, had my chances, should have got off that feeder line and setup a short one though.
Appreciate the effort! Top quality videos and very educational
Thanks so much mate, I'll keep making em as long as people enjoy them.
I was suprised at the weigh in, it looked like you caught a lot more. Must have been your skill with the cameras that made it look that way, great video John, as always 👍
I think my fish sweated and lost weight in the keepnet 🤣
Great vid john , looks a nice peg , shame the early possible chub didnt stick .
Tell me about it Phil 😭
Nice catch of fish especially on a low clear Trent. Well done.
Thanks Peter, they were there for the taking, I definitely got something wrong and I think if I had my time again, I'd have setup another line 1/4 across on the feeder.
love the river vids jon unlucky wi mist bites and lost fish good close match keep them coming cheers

Great fishin John used to fish dink dink get loads of skimmers with maggot feeder
I was surprised there weren't any skimmers, everyone primarily caught roach, maybe the sunny conditions out the off. 🤷♂️
Bit deceiving that weight John thought the scales would have gone around a bit further than they did ' and as you say mystery bites in abundance. 👍
Yes lower than I thought they would weigh Martin but the fish in the last hour were only little, should have set a short maggot feeder line up, hindsight eh.🤷♂️
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel must admit I was thinking the same they'd have been there , did you just drop it that bit short on that long line . ?

Thank you Clive. In hindsight, I wish I'd setup a 15m feeder line as well, I could have got in and out faster and given the middle line a rest.
Nice video mate, camera angles working a treat.
