Just picked up a 7’x16’ 14k lb rated dump trailer. Starting my business in junk removal, and hauling, until I save up for a mini skid. Appreciate your videos bro. I did a TON of research before buying and your channel helped a lot! 👍🏽

Congrats, once you get a skidder make sure you add jacks to the back for loading. Just make sure they don’t hinder you dumping. But they are necessary for loading equipment in them. Otherwise you’ll be finding a welder to repair the frame (currently doing just that because the back of the trailer wasn’t supported for this customer) frame completely snapped on the drivers side frame rail.
overhead and profits, I wouldn’t run my equipment for 50 an hour, they saved so much money sub contracting you, know your worth, and don’t sell yourself short! Love the vids and glad you share your numbers and wish you the best and happy to see you grow!

$50 seem crazy low. I bet there machine and operator costs the company well over $150 an hour.
After the cost of running there machine, insurance, fuel, transportation of the skid steer from site to site.
The operator is probably salary with probably a benefit package.
I'm sure they will have a lot work for you at that price. Keep in mind they are basically renting you, your truck, your skid, and your trailer. Plus all the other costs come out of your pocket.
$50 and hour was only for me backfilling that is it that is why when I took the brush over to the dump I charged $1500 and it took a lot less time backfilling as a sub contractor doesn’t pay a lot because it’s a skill less work plus they already had there own skid steer
They pay there got 26 an hour
@@user-bo9xb5qv8l also it seems low because they honestly didn’t need me on the job the owner of the company gave me an opportunity to come make money and see the work environment so in my eyes that was work something also it is another reason why I didn’t charge the usual prices because they did not need me to be there. Also if I charged more than that then it would be worth it for there company to bring me out
Hey man I like watching your videos I do the same work in Florida further south. My advice to you is do the work the best you can and don’t leave until your happy with your work, never leave and just say it’s good enough because if you say that you know right there your not happy with something. I don’t leave anything good enough I’ll loose money before I do that your name is everything and I would have definitely hauled off all the concrete if they wanted it buried they would have done it themselves they have all the capabilities to do so. Also grading with that small bucket is not efficient at all and I’m sure it’s probably pretty difficult and annoying you gotta get a bucket that goes out to the tracks then you will be getting it done and u will be able to to cut a clear path in front of of you in the dirt. I appreciate your comment and your constructive criticism I definitely will take all of this into consideration and will take your advice your 100% correct and I’ve definitely been looking into getting a bigger bucket for my skid I had one but it was a Chinese brand one and even a Chinese bucket won’t hold up so I won’t be buying another one of those. But I will definitely adjust my business because I want to grow and coming from someone who’s been in the business and knows about it helps so thanks.

If you took this job as a learning experience for a day or two that is one thing, $500 a day doesn’t even pay your expenses in the long run, or short term…

I'm glad you got some money this week definitely beats no money! I get trying to get in so you can get future work but man you have nice equipment and it needs to make a minimum every day! If I show up for a day with my skid it's 1k. I don't care if that's pushing pulling digging or grapple work. One blown hose and you dang near worked for free ya know. Makes sense but that’s highly unlikely that I would blow a hose my machine is still getting broken in low hours and not as much ware and tare

I'm not showing up with 100k in equipment to make 500$ after insurance taxes and fuel you are not making 20$ hr? @@jasonc470 I will but he brought me there because I am connected with the owner he is also a Christain man and wanted to give the small guy an opportunity they didn’t need me hence why I couldn’t charge $1000 dollars to be honest they would of finished the job just as fast without me
I’ve had about 7 new skidders, various brands. The latest one blew 3 lines in the first 20 hours. It’s not the norm but is always a possibility. It’s your business at the end of the day and you charge what you charge to get in places and all that. But things can and do happen I think is all he’s trying to warn you about.
Also I will just add that tracks are a wear item along with the sprockets and road wheels, and sandy soil will eat them much faster than normal. I’m mostly in sandy loam style soil and you can bet tracks will last about 1k hours and they aren’t cheap so I’d be factoring that in. One last thing, hub fluid… no one ever seems to keep up with that maintenance schedule, always check it every 200 hours or so. And change it per your manufacture recommendation, when a drive gear goes that’s about 7-10k pending. All things to take into consideration. Again at the end of the day it’s your call to make. Just some stuff I’ve run into over the years that pops out to me for new owner/ops

Start off by renting brother, get that machine time and experience on someone else’s machine and charge your customers for rental fee+operator time. Good way to begin and get some down payment money to ease up those monthly payments

One of the reasons why companies subcontract is to save on labor costs such as pensions, healthcare, and other benefits salaried employees are usually entitled to. Hoping you are saving for your retirement because at some point it is something you're going to want to do or have to do.
I got that all handled I understand that and I want to retire before most people do

I have been there. I have charged enough to get by the day. I did this for about 6 years.. now I charge full amount because of the relationships and contacts I made through the years.. God has given you the ability to get the opportunities so go get them.
Be willing to do the harder jobs. Building relationships with other companies will keep doors open brother

I would look into getting an enclosed cab skid. It will be an expensive upgrade but at the rate you flip I’m sure you could work the market and make it happen. It will make that type of day of work much easier if you plan on continuing it. Essentially paying for convenience is my adobe

500 a day is low but I understand you are building a relationship and learning the ropes. Get the experience and the money will come. Consistency is good.
Keep grinding, but you definitely got the short end of the stick. I don’t move my machine for anything less then $100/hr. I understand why you did this time but next time I wouldn’t move it for that cheap.
Im a sub in Houston and I charge between 1000-1200 a day with myself a mini ex and 1 helper all material provided by them… I usually end up leaving with 800 minimum per day after all expenses
Use that money to buy a bucket that fits your skid. Wasting fuel and time using that small bucket. Finished product looks better as well.

Eh it puts money in your pocket and you build a relationship. Take these scheduled days to get some estimates out and line up some more jobs 👍 no harm in a quick 500. Wouldn’t pay for my own fuel unless I’m getting equipment pay tho.

I know its been said a few times but I have to agree. 500 per day is beyond generous. If someone were to rent that machine they would be paying close or if not more than that to just rent the machine without an operator. 750-800 would be a good middle ground I think

@@EntreprenuerDavis depending where you’re at you can look into being a subcontractor. You are binded to them for a period of time BUT they constantly feed you work and a lot of the times pay you PER FOOT. up to $14 a foot just depends on

Don’t ever haul and use your own equipment for less then $150 and hour, we all know about paying dues and giving a little to get a little bit that’s ridiculous I don’t own any of the things you got just my back my truck and my tools and I’m not even returning a phone call for less then $50 hour general service 120 hour for trade work.
