Very kind of the carpenter to give you the plans for the chateau’s woodwork. Michael, your enthusiasm for this kitchen restoration is contagious, crack on! 🙏❤️
Things happen for a reason and how wonderful the plans are around. I can't help with think Michael would have come up with something very similar on his own!
I suspect any company or craftsman who did original work on the chateau may have similar plans or samples. I suspect that paint sample you chose was put out for you to consider because somebody suspected you would be looking for a color similar to the original.😊
Micheal, you and Billy are so attentive to sympathetic restoration, you are investing your time and skills in preserving these historic buildings for future generations.
What a valuable gift to have the plans for the kitchen at the Chateau! I agree that it is an excellent idea to scan the plans so you will always have a digital copy as well. This project has gotten much more exciting! Well done, Michael!
That was an incredibly generous gesture by the grandson of the original château carpenter, since he had to go out of his way to come all the way to the house and the fact the documents are a part of his family history.
You already have an aircompressor on hand, why not use a needle scaler to chip the rust inbetween sandblastings? MUCH more efficient than hammer and chisel.
I just learned what a needle scaler is today from another RUclipsr The 2nd Empire Strikes Back. He is restoring his Victorian home in St. Louis, Missouri.
This kitchen will be as epic as the convent kitchen - such an admirable attention to detail. I was wondering, for those of us who came on board with the convent, if a small tour could be conducted? It would help place spaces in relation to each other. Loving this format: a little convent here, a little chateau there, beautiful music and Michael on board to keep us informed. Many thanks and well done!
Well done to the original carpenter and his grandson for keeping the plans and then giving them to you. It will be nice to see the craftsmanship recreated in the chateau.
To save your drawings place them unfolded between 2 sheets of acid free paper. You can iron the creases out with an iron on low setting with parchment paper between.
Michael seeing these floor plans and your enthusiasm for the the history of the chateau is so very cool 😎 and the desire to bring it back my hats off to you from Texas
I was so excited when I saw the name of the vlog. Michael is so very talented and, oh, how wonderful the plans survived. I'm so glad y'all are renovating the chateau and convent. It could not be in better hands ❤
I love that Michael and Billy are so in to restoring the chateau back to its original self. It always saddens me when people buy historic homes and then make them modern. You two are amazing. I also love the happiness you both get in all that you do. Be it large or small. What a blessing to have the grandson give you the plans. ❤️
The dividing screen you spoke of and your plan to replace it with a cabinet, reminded me of something similar I once saw, In Santa Fe New Mexico is the old hospital that is now a hotel. Part of that is the original hospital where the nuns lived. It was called Marion Hall. In the dining area was a breakfront that was a beautiful cupboard on one side and on the kitchen side was a shelf unit for the dishes. The side facing the dining area resembled an expensive China hutch, hand-carved in dark oak I think. I will try to locate a picture
Michael, since you don't have the time to scan all those drawings now, I think you should get it outsourced by someone who do high quality scans, and then make sure that you keep copies of all the scans both onsite and offsite as a security precaution. Unfortunately, worst case scenarios _do_ happen, all it takes is a water leak, a lightening strike or faulty electrics...
@@bluemoon1033 Yes, they most like are, but that does not help if the only copy is the original, 100 year old drawings, that is why I suggested they outsource the scanning job since they didn't have the time to do all of them now.
I am really enjoying Michael’s explanations of everything. The more he explains details the more animated he becomes. Thank you for your interesting details!😊
When Billy was on the fence about it, it made me doubt it a bit. I think it's "growing" on me. I like it there! Maybe that's why he captured the shot that way, to just take another look.
@@atomicrancher3745 Agreed, retired curator here. Scan the originals and fame copies. Disagree about not wearing glovers. Michael had clean hands until he touched his face. That oil on his fingers went on the paper he touched. Always wear gloves. Making digital copies is an awesome idea.
I love the attention to detail that you all have and putting things back as they were with of course some modern appliances. So many times when someone buys an old property they demo everything and modernize it and take away all the details that made it unique. I appreciate that in all you do.
Oh Micheal, it's one thing to restore, but to do it with the actual plans.....you must be so excited! Throwing actual history in the mix is really something special. Lucky you and Billy!
It is definitely amazing that you were able to get those plans for the house. They will make your life and the craftsmen you have helping you with your journey of restoring the chateau so much easier.
I was so excited when I saw those original drawings. Just a tip from an old draftsman (draughtsman): unfold all the drawings (carefully) and lay the small ones flat between sheets of heavy acid-free stock. The larger ones (larger than 11 x 17) should be rolled and stored in tubes. Otherwise, they will deteriorate along the fold lines and you'll lose them. Please don't even think of ironing them. Proper archival storage never hurts; then if you decide to mount and frame them at some time, they'll be ready to work with.
What an exciting piece of archive you got there. Those drawing are going to be so cool when converted to wood. I believe that Chestnut also has anti-insect properties that made it quite popular in kitchens.
The Convent kitchen is just stunning. How lucky 🍀 you were to be gifted the original plans for the Chateau kitchen. I love how Michael devours and reinterprets them. Again, I know the expense is huge, but Pethericks do things right, and do them for the long term. These historic buildings are fortunate to be in their care. The Chateau kitchen has such low ceilings. I’m hoping things can be rigged so it’s just as bright and welcoming as Billy did in the Convent. Michael, you’re the color genius. Surprised the decorative iron columns were going to be so dark. Maybe with the white tiled walls, and whatever you select for paint and flooring will be enough to keep it bright? 😊
Wow, how incredible that you found those drawings! Love how the community around you is so willing to give back anything that is related to the Chateau and to the Convent. Excellent!
Loved seeing the original plans. You are so fortunate to have so many of them, plus seeing the tops of the kitchen columns emerging from the rust is lovely...so decorative! Keep up the fine work!
Having the original plans must be so delightful! I'm wondering if they should be stored unfolded. The creases will begin to wear and cause tears eventually. Also, once you'd scanned them you can get them mounted and framed behind UV glass to display somewhere in the chateau. Being an artist myself I truly appreciate Michael's take on things!
Michael is so informative I thought at my age I wouldn't learn anything new how wrong was I , love these bloggs restoration is not for faint hearted you all make it look easy ❤xx

Such wonderful ideas for the kitchen!! A suggestion for your original plans. Open them and lay them flat between archival paper. Then, store them flat in a large archival box. Folding them as they have been folded will create weak points, and eventually, they will tear at those folds.
I love how you’re using the original plans and adequate them to the current needs of the kitchen. It’s definitely gonna keep its style as when built. Btw the olive tree looks amazing in the other kitchen.

Not only do I love watching all the projects being done, but I also enjoy hearing the music chosen for each video.
Totally agree!
I think Alex has influenced Billy edits, they have improved so much.
Someone likes slide / bottleneck guitar that's for certain 😉
I agree. I sometimes replay the video while I’m working just to listen to the music.
Yes the music chosen for each vlog is so appropriate
It is wonderful that someone saved the original plans! It's heartwarming to see your family honor the history of both the chateau and the convent.
Michael…….. great plans! Love following your thought process!
I agree. It’s great to have an Artist in the family … one with a peaceful soul. A Joy to hear and see💕

I am so so Happy to have Micheal back... he is so talented and inspirational.
Kitchen is looking great. It's so nice of that company to bring the diagrams of all wood things they made in the château. Thats a real treasure!
I had a tour in the huge regional achives and they basically said, always save paper with paper. Awesome find!
yes, paper goes with paper; fabric goes with fabric and metal goes with metal. Never mix them. Never clean swords.
Fantastic! That paper is so thin, but was well taken care of, so glad you were offered them. Remarkable. Quite a lot in that kitchen.
Bravo Michael, you have given us all a great explanation of the kitchen rebuild.👏🙏🥂
I love listening to Micheal explain everything! Passion for the original comes through. It’s so exciting! Can’t wait to see how it all comes out!
