Making a bush canopy for the Abandoned TD9 Dozer & winching over a big leaning tree..

  • I got this canopy off an old dozer that was off to the scrap yard, It was the wrong size for the TD9 so I had to cut it into sections and rebuild it to suit the TD9. Feels a lot safer winching heavy loads and working in the forest.

Hi Marty, that cab was very creative, and very sensible. My Dad had stories of men hit by snapped wire ropes. For those who don't know a chain will just drop where it is if it breaks, but it gives no warning. A wire rope thrashes about all over the place as the pent up stretch caused by the tension is released but it does make ominous noises before it fails - can't hear them over a noisy engine though....

Marty, nice to see that you keep the safety guards on your grinders. I was in the power tool business for 40 years and saw so many people injured because they took the safety guards off their tools [grinders]. When I was given tools [grinders] for repair, the tool after repair was given back to the customer with a safety guard on them. Next time I picked up tools for repair the guards were missing. Stupid way to use a grinder with no safety guard.... So after repair the tools went back with guards on them again. Maybe the customers were just trying to give me extra business by selling guards. I wasn't selling guards so to speak, I was selling safety.

Agree I was also impressed with the use of the 3M respirator when using the angle grinder. The dust when using those is awful to breath in. Tip: put 1 sheet of toilet paper over the first stage of both filters to capture the course dust. When you remove it you’ll see what you’d have been breathing in.
