The Infamous: Hunters Lodge (Milsurp Score or Scam?) 📦 Unboxing Cheap Military Surplus Firearms C&R

  • Hunters Lodge Corp may advertise unbelievably low prices on milsurp firearms, but they also have a notorious reputation for sketchy business practices, slow shipping, poor customer service, and unfulfilled orders. The question remains: Is their bad reputation truly deserved? The only way to find out was to bite the bullet and submit an order. This isn’t my first time dealing with Hunters Lodge. A few years ago, I took a chance with a military surplus firearm order from them, but I've been hesitant to push my luck and roll the dice again-until now. Their most recent ad features irresistibly budget-friendly Long Lee-Enfield rifles, along with Berthier, Mosin, and Carcano carbines. Let’s see if Hunters Lodge is a milsurp treasure trove or a complete scam here in 2025.

@@davidkohler7454 As stupid as it sounds, there was a massive jump in price in 2017 for both mosins and mausers due to the release of battlefield 1. For example the average cost of a mosin at auction was somewhere around $280 in 2015, whereas in 2017 they jumped to almost $600. I have noticed the bubble on them has started to pop in the last year or two though on the auction market. We will probably see table/store prices come back down from the insanity in the next couple years as they start to flood the market again through estate sales. For example I just picked up an 1898 dated Tula imperial with matching early pattern bayonet for $350 in April of last year. The deals are starting to be seen again, just require some hard digging.

The Lee Speed is commercial, as one gentleman previously mentioned. This rifle is certainly not a left-over from the boer war. The bolt is also not a Long lee bolt. It has a later model cocking piece only seen on mid- to late productions SMLE's and the rifles after it. And the bolt itself does not have the dust cover lugs which are supposed to be on Long Lee bolts. I think they just threw in any other Lee bolt they had on hand. The bolt handle curvature is also different on long lees.

i totally agree the lee speed was a commercial one, be interesting to know when in it was converted as they have gone to all the trouble of fitting hunting sights but not replaced the fore stock just chopped it as you can see the cut out for the missing rear volley sight and nothing has been done to tidy the wrist were the sight was mounted. the receiver shows marks that look like a pipe wrench has been at work possibly to remove the barrel, possibly just replaced the original barrel with one with the sights already fitted

I ordered three M44 Mosins, two Spanish Mausers and two Carcanos in November of 2017 for our store. It took almost a year for part of my order to ship (October 2018), and when I called, I rarely got through to anyone. If I did get through, the person was rude.
On that first shipment I received two beautiful M44s - one all matching - and a third that looked like it had been used as a shovel in a coal mine. I received the Mausers in January of 2020, dirty, and not the models I ordered, but pretty good overall, and two months later I received the Carcanos - which were junk.
The experience was horrible, but I did pretty well on what I ordered. I still have one of the Carcanos at the shop that will probably never sell.

I have a t53 that looked about the same, 12 years ago it was $119, no cracks in the wood tho, i re blued it, and refinished the stock, the bore slugged to .3115, it is actually a pretty accurate gun, also all t53 that came from the field got a russian bolt upon storage, a numbers matching t53 is the rarest mosin imo

now my RTI Vetterli/Carcano looks like a museum piece compared to these
im not a collector as you are, so having a rare version means nothing to me.
i just look at a gun and think " gee that looks neet. i could restore it and make it a nice wall hanger that i will put a couple rounds through once in awhile."
i would have bought none of those even at those prices.
i honestly didnt know there was a company even MORE hit and miss than RTI
your video convinced me to avoid hunters lodge entirely

Great video. I have to say, it really piqued my interest. If you know what you're likely to get from these guys (which you're helping with this vid) and you like a good project gun, it actually sounds like a bit of fun ordering from this place. Kind of like playing the lottery. If you're used to purchasing perfectly functional clean firearms at high prices it's not for you, but some of us do enjoy getting to work on rifles such as these.

These appear to be guns that were even passed over for parts. You seem to be buying them as curious and not for shooting . Using them as just examples of different models in a collection. I would put them in the same classification as "Battlefield dug relics" as far a shooting them.meaning , never shoot them..

It looks like they're from Ethiopia. The ones you got that wouldn't swallow the bullet all the way to the neck of the cartridge have potential. A trick I have discovered that works pretty good for cleaning up bores is to take some 0000 steel wool and rap it around your bore brush and preferably pushing it in from the chamber, really helps to smooth out all that pitting from corrosive ammo. It kind of ruins your bore brush, but cleaning up the bore is worth it.

Kind of excited to receive my Mosin from them now. I was pleased with the Berthier I received. I ordered a K-31 action last year and it’s still not arrived. I’m going to order some of the missing parts Spanish mausers (I think they are like $50 apiece) next. Mainly just a parts order. Unfortunately for my wallet I have renewed my 03-FFl for the first time in 15 years or so. Not gonna lie Hunter’s Lodge is my favorite. They have weird stuff and it’s all pretty filthy and cleaning them up is what I enjoy.

(P.S. the way I see it, as long as you can get the receiver in a good enough shape to use, it’s worth it anything else along with it is a bonus. And yes, it is difficult to get a response, but it seems if you ask about pricing and such prior to ordering, it will be more “Lively”.)
