Immense Data haha, well it is still as quiet playing the launch titles like resistance and ridge racer 7 but is louder when playing games like the last of us which push it harder.I reckon the paste is fine even fresh paste goes crusty feeling after a relatively short while but it still does its job.Plenty of hot air blows out the back so it’s doing its job I’m sure.Always have it on its side on a high shelf with loads of air all around it plus I live in the uk so only really hot here in summer and then I don’t use it.

11:48 I miss old Sony when it was older Japanese guys in charge but that all changed once Naughty Dog and other western devs at Sony completely out shined anything Sony Japan Studio could produce, then Sony moved their headquarters from Tokyo to California and that was it! Watching the demo of Warhawk and seeing the single player campaign with those aerial battleships was amazing back in 2006 and then all of that got taken out and it was only a multiplayer game...that was a huge letdown for me. The game was still great but I wanted the single player so bad
As much of a mess that the PS3 initially was, it turned out to be one of the greatest entertainment devices of all time. That was a lot of fun back then, being a Sony gamer. I feel like it was 2010 were they really started to turn the corner and show off what the PS3 was capable of. I like long console generations, didn't bother me one bit sticking with the PS3 for so long.
This actually came on from some sort of shuffle or auto play, but I watched the whole thing and I loved it. John, Alex and Richard you guys do a phenomenal job keeping this presentation informative and lively. It’s 3:30 am and I had a blast. Thanks again for all your hard work on these videos.
Personally, I just want "Heavenly Sword [Remastered]". And a "[New] Heavenly Sword II". And "Heavy Rain 2 +Heavy Rain 2 [Move Edition]", while they're at it... 🤔 Hmm..., then, I also want "Singularity 2" & "Vanquish 2". 😁
@Sonic Sadly I have to agree. What really let it down was the severe lack of replay value coupled with the somewhat forgettable store line. Shame too as it has killer production values and the visuals at the time were second to none. Even if it got a remake in the future they really need to add a bunch of content to make the package seem meaty
here in Brazil the PS2 was THE CONSOLE until 2009, after 2009 was a mix between 360 and PS2, this only will change on 2012/13 when ppl started to migrate to PS3/360 for real, on the end of the generation. PS4/Xone started to be mainstream early than the past generations, on 2015/16 PS4/Xone became mainstream here. For this new gen PS5/SeriesX i think will be slower to become mainstream, shortage and price is a problem. But looks like this machines is selling well here bcs on the same hour they restock the stores sell all unities.
I feel like it would’ve been very interesting if Microsoft’s conference was *after* this conference. Yeah the 360 was already out for 6 months at this point, but still, imagine dropping that ‘GTA IV on 360 day 1’ pipe bomb during the entire internet’s unwavering contempt at Sony, and after GTA had just been the most popular series on PS2.
I loved the idea of "Photo Mode: The Game" when they showed it. I never got around to it, but I do remember seeing this. - The unfortunate part today is, it wouldn't look good enough to be a game based on visuals, as in creating pictures. - I mean, you'd better have the best of the best graphics to make it ABOUT creating pictures, as Photo Mode in full-fledged games is of course just extra stuff to do and perhaps also appreciate the visuals. - But to have just about that, it should look really interesting or also have interesting additional features that make it interesting. Like upgrading your gear or unlocking locations. Heck, make it kind of like real life that you have to sell your pictures and make money to travel farther or something. - It would almost be like one of those hunting games, but then not about murder.
"real-time weapon change" I also remember this one. What a great feature that's only possible on our powerful ps3? It's like... the presenter never played a game or don't know how game is made...
@@acidreighn Yeah it had everything and full PS2 backwards compatibility but the design wasn't efficient at all and was prone to over heat. I had one years ago and it died on me. Got it used too off ebay which is probably where I messed up with it.

14:44: Holy shit! I just woke up to hear this part about Tetris. I game I NEVER got into or understood why people loved it SO much until... I played Tetris: The Grand Master, and purposely started to play fast. I almost immediately became addicted to it and was so mad that it didn't exist on PC that I used all my programming skills at the time NOT to make a 3d game or anything. Nope: I made my own clone "Tetraholic" to clone it down to the outlined blocks, shadow block things, speed, even exact points and level breaks and stuff if I remember. It's one of those things that I can't get people excited about "Hey, wanna see my Tetris clone?" but... trust me, it was the PERFECT exercise to get back into coding. There are a million games people start that are No Man's Sky's where it's going to be everything and allow you to do everything but .. I ACTUALLY finished this one and delievered it ... to myself. I've never given it to anyone else, but if anyone wants to try it.. it has a particle engine and a 3d engine JUST for the title screen's menu and stuff, heh. I made it when I was, I dunno,.. 20? I even did the music. Oh, and it's got local multiplayer too. Come onnn. someone want it...
Just shows how much competition there is and how blind a company can be when they dominate for a while, very curious to see what next generation of consoles will bring.
I LOVED THE PS3! One of my favorite consoles EVER! This was Sonys turning point in the companies history that changed it all! The success of the PS4 is the product of the PS3, but not for everyone says it was. The PS3 was a powerhouse. Kutaragi-san was just too smart for his own good. He was ten years ahead of the competition! The PS3 hardware housed innovation and genius. A high storage capacity disc of up to 50GB of storage space. A HDD in every console that was removable. The CELL PROCESSOR FOLKS! Come on! The GPU was pretty weak but considering. The controller was not only wireless, but it didn't require AA batteries, just plug in the cable and away you go. An ignorant person would say it was easy for Sony, because it wasn't. It was a challenge for them. Their hardware was complicated because it was designed by a mastermind, but it lasted ten years! It saw High Definition gaming, 3D gaming, motion controlled gaming, and it even rocked ambient occlusion in the Uncharted and Last of Us games, teselation in Gran Tourismo 6, and it even had HDR in Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. The Network outage was rough. Sony designed hardware they were proud of, and like any respectable business fought for that and they were attacked as a result of it. Microsoft could've gotten hacked just as easily but Sony was the underdog and thus the prime target. Microsoft were scared enough they tried to buy off the hacker with a Windows Phone and have him program for them, yes, they bought him off. But Sony came through it. What Sony learned most, and had been and has since been their biggest strength was they learned to rely less on third-party developers and have faith in and strengthen their first-party studios. Jack Tretton went to work on this painting a picture so grand for Naughty Dog, that they became Rockstars, yup. Sony focused on first-party developers and look at them today versus' the competition. The PS3, I believe is Sonys greatest achievement I think and ranks up there with the SEGA Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast. I LOVED the PS3. The more I showed it to friends, the sooner they abandoned their 360 and got a PS3.
For the record. The Xbox arcade edition couldn't use Xbox live for 360 games. It cost 300$ the Xbox with the 20gb hard drive was 400$. You need Xbox live to play online 60$ a year. If you don't have a router near the 360 you need a wireless adapter another 100$. So by the time you get your Xbox up and running it was 560... The PS3 launch had other problems but people focus too much on the price. They were realistically only 40$ apart. After a year and a half of Xbox live they were the same price. The general public just saw the price and dropped a brick. The interesting part is they ended up winning the last console war despite this horrible launch.
PS3 won the console war? Not really, Wii still managed to beat both 360 and PS3, although both managed to catch up quite a bit at the end, and essentially Xbox 360 and PS3 sold roughly amount the same amount of units (PS3 has sold roughly only 1 million units more than Xbox 360) And overall if you consider what kind of dominant position Sony had with PS2, they were the only ones to lose market share to competitors during 7th console gen....you could say that during 6th gen, they hold over 80% of console markets, while during 7th gen what they ended up with was some 1/3rd.... So in that regard they were the only losers during 7th gen, while it was huge win for both Microsoft and Nintendo. But for sure, Sony managed to recover from this much better during the generation than Microsoft did during this gen from the weak launch of Xbox One and thats much thanks to their strong 1st party lineup and Blu-Ray becoming standard form of high-definition physical media. Also as for the price of Xbox Live, let me remind you that it was by no means mandatory to pay for Xbox Live Gold, if you only played singleplayer games....I would only active my Gold membership whenever I was only interested in playing multiplayer games. Also one thing to consider which propably doesnt matter to anyone else except for my kind of achievement/trophy hunters, that because PSN was always free on PS3, Sony has been rapidly closing down the multiplayer servers of their old games, while Microsoft still has the multiplayer running even for the very first of their own published Xbox 360 games (Gears, Halo 3, Perfect Dark Zero, Forza Motorsport 2 etc...) while also lately its been interesting to witness how servers of other games that have had their servers closed down on PS3 (like Crysis 2 for example)have continued to run on Xbox 360 versions....again likely due to the fact that Microsoft has taken over those servers and can afford to keep them running. I know that means very little to people who are not hunting down achievements/trophies from these older games like me and some others are :D...but its one thing that I have noticed that is different between these two and its likely because Microsoft still keeps making money from Xbox 360's Live Gold accounts and purchases while Sony isnt ofc making much anything from PS3 side.
There were times when it felt I was watching an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 with John, Alex and Rich riffing on Sony's presentation. The question is who was playing Tom Servo and who was Crow?
You know, motion-control is a nice idea and I think that of the SIXAXIS is quite impressive for how it responds and built into the pretty compact controller. - The problem is just the practical side of it. It's not that every implementation of it is bad, it's just that it's jarring and awkward as soon as you HAVE to use it. - They might have standardized the motion-control in this controller, but because it's not THE standard way of controlling a game it feels like it was tacked on and it just annoys people. And because it was only an occasional use of it, it especially didn't become the norm. - Similarly to how the touchpad was barely used and it became "big button" to developers and consumers alike. (Though, I'll a little more to that later.) I think sóme of the uses were done pretty well, like how you could balance with it in 'Mirror's Edge' because it was in first-person, it did actually make you move along and it kind of made sense. As opposed to how you use it in 'Uncharted', in which it just felt more tacked on again like "just because we can and need to showcase it for Sony, we'll put it in", but in practice it was pointless and it also didn't feel as nice as in 'Mirror's Edge'. - Then there were also cases like where you had to shake the controller to free yourself, I forget which game it was (might also have been Uncharted), but that also worked pretty well as you'd kinda shake the controller in a panic. Though, then again, it kind of felt "childish" or something. (1:46:57 Yea, kinda like that indeed. It also FEELS like that when you're doing it. So in a way it makes sense like how, as a child, you'd move your controller illogically to try and get something on screen to happen, to then have motion-controls to ACTUALLY make that happen. But then as teens or adults we're like "Nah, I don't want that.".) To come back to the touchpad; I feel that it had so much more logical potential to be implemented in games. For example, I've seen reviews lamenting the fact that they didn't use it for the remaster/remake of 'Okami'. You know, whenever you had to use the pencil. I mean, yea, what a missed opportunity! That's probably one of the top examples it could've been used for. - But the were other instances where I thought it could've been used as well. I was playing 'The Last of Us' this year and there were moments where I thought "Oh, perhaps I can use the touchpad here.", which then disappointingly didn't work. - I don't remember exactly which things I wanted to control with it, but I do remember that it would've made sense and I was disappointed they didn't use it. - It's kinda like when your gamer-instincts tingle when you think you found something in a game, but it's nothing... Sucks. Perhaps it was with the bow or something... But I do remember that you also had to use the motion-control to throw grenades in 'Uncharted', which didn't work as well as it felt weird. But then again, I suppose you could be more accurate with it than an analogue stick, for the same reason any kind of aiming with an analogue stick is inefficient. If they just made it a little less sensitive or something like that, because the problem was more that it just felt unwieldy than anything else, and again, jarring. That's my view on motion controls and other gimmicks that, potentially, don't have to gimmicks when implemented well. - I still hope for more use of the touchpad. - Oh, and ironically, I ended up using the motion-control over the touchpad for typing virtually more. XD - That's the fastest way and I was surprised how well it worked. The first time I used it I was like "No, horribly shaky.", but if you just calm down and focus your aim, it goes a lot quicker than the touchpad or the old way of course. Again, it's just a bit unwieldy because of sensitivity. Anyway, if you got through the end of this thesis, I'll end it with this timestamp for you: 1:44:58
However they made an improvement with the dualshock 4 they still kept the motion but but approved upon in some games like uncharted 4 horizon zero Dawn and death stranding but some third party games still use the feature but they don't use it The only use it for select mode like it multiplayer games like Overwatch used it to check on other players but what's more innovative about the PlayStation 4 controller is the share button This is one of the most successful features on the controller which made PS4 much more affordable than the Xbox one but when the PlayStation 5 controller dualsene is going to improve upon what made the dualshock 4 great

Had to replace the laser unit on my 2008 CECHG twice but beside that it works just fine.
Still have mine too. Not a launch model but a 2008 one. It's still my main bluray player.
@@michaelpegasiou4531 It CAN'T be the same. Your thermal paste must be as crusty as a Cheeto piece. My PS3 Slim's not as old and it's WAY louder than when I bought it in 2014.
TBH, Uncharted 2 actually managed to do the best of the Eight Days demo and ended up looking much better than that fakery.
Well done Naughty Dog.
TechRyze yeah. I thought the same thing too.
That original 8 days tech demo from 2005 looks like the weird CGI cutscenes in Sonic Adventure

@Michel Darwin I still prefer PS2 and early PS3 Sony when it was led by Japanese.

I want a Heavenly Sword remake so bad. Especially w/ God of War's reboot - not enough games like that anymore
Facts!!!
Personally,
I just want "Heavenly Sword [Remastered]".
Even if it got a remake in the future they really need to add a bunch of content to make the package seem meaty
game sucked lmao

here in Brazil the PS2 was THE CONSOLE until 2009, after 2009 was a mix between 360 and PS2, this only will change on 2012/13 when ppl started to migrate to PS3/360 for real, on the end of the generation.

I kind of love Phil Harrison's deadpan delivery, it's somehow comforting.
This era wowed me going from 480p to 720p gaming.
Meanwhile Xbox with their E3 2006....One of their best E3.
And the complete opposite happened in 2013. Let's hope neither get that stupid ever again.

21:10 Xbox 360 actually supported natively 1360x768 via VGA and HDMI.
Some of the early models didn't have an HDMI port I believe
Wasn't pretty much everything 720p? Even the dashboard was 720p. Some games supported 1080p thou.

I love these “deep dive” hour-long videos. Keep it up!

The ps3 was a very incredible console regardless of its hectic beginnings. Am glad I got one back in 2009 was a blast! Damn that's 10 years ago unbelievable.
My friend bought the $600 ps3 while I still had a ps2 and he let me borrow it. I thought being able to play my ps2 games on it was the best thing ever at time.
Well, that is a cool feature. I hope they bring it back with PS5
Well some would argue it still is (its best feature). Ps2 games through hdmi on original hardware was a massive selling point. A shame they ditched it so swiftly in favour of lousy emulation
teehundeart Cost too much they need the Cell for PS3 backwards compatibility.
Why did u not just play ur ps2 and why did he buy something for 600$ and borrow it to you?

Yeahhhh alright dude

Not really, Wii still managed to beat both 360 and PS3, although both managed to catch up quite a bit at the end, and essentially Xbox 360 and PS3 sold roughly amount the same amount of units (PS3 has sold roughly only 1 million units more than Xbox 360)
And overall if you consider what kind of dominant position Sony had with PS2, they were the only ones to lose market share to competitors during 7th console gen....you could say that during 6th gen, they hold over 80% of console markets, while during 7th gen what they ended up with was some 1/3rd....
Gamespot had loads of 1080p video of this stuff for download from 2005 onwards.

(Though, I'll a little more to that later.)
I think sóme of the uses were done pretty well, like how you could balance with it in 'Mirror's Edge' because it was in first-person, it did actually make you move along and it kind of made sense. But then as teens or adults we're like "Nah, I don't want that.".)
To come back to the touchpad; I feel that it had so much more logical potential to be implemented in games.
Anyway, if you got through the end of this thesis, I'll end it with this timestamp for you: 1:44:58
However they made an improvement with the dualshock 4 they still kept the motion but but approved upon in some games like uncharted 4 horizon zero Dawn and death stranding but some third party games still use the feature but they don't use it The only use it for select mode like it multiplayer games like Overwatch used it to check on other players but what's more innovative about the PlayStation 4 controller is the share button This is one of the most successful features on the controller which made PS4 much more affordable than the Xbox one but when the PlayStation 5 controller dualsene is going to improve upon what made the dualshock 4 great
@@kevingame3198 Killzone 2 used it sometimes, simple features like rotating a valve wheel. Those moments were pretty cool
