These old Shadow 750s are really great and reliable bikes, if they're maintained even halfway well. I stripped most of the gussy Hermitage Softtail stuff off mine, and with a few bits from Blue Collar Bobbers, TJ Brutal Customs, and E-Bay built a machine I love to ride. Twenty four years old, and I'd jump on that bike and take off anywhere. (But I'd bring my tool kit😁)
I'm at the "Please Stand By" point of this video. So far, I'm tellin' ya, Joe, that your son is lucky to have a father like you. My ol' man was a Knucklehead mechanic who used a hammer more than a wrench to make things work. I had to un-train myself from most of his teaching, just to make things right. For instance, I watched him hammer an automatic choke on our GMC pickup to make it run. After paying triple for gas, I read the manual and installed a manual choke and taught my Ma to use it right. Patience is a virtue when working with mechanical things. You, my friend, have that virtue.

But I made damned sure they had enough knowledge to not get taken for a ride whenever they couldn't pop over to "Dad's place"!!....my dad was a career trucker, and a passable wrench on anything with breaker points, but anything electronic would infuriate him so badly!!..... Between him, and my grandfather, I guess they drilled enough common sense into my head when I was a kid that enough of it stuck so I didnt screw my own kids up too badly (although, admittedly, we TRIED 🤣).... Nowadays, Ive got a 2 year old grandson that I can spoil the shit out of, sugar him up, and then send him back to Mom and Dad, so life's pretty good 😁 I appreciate you taking the time to watch, and thanks for sharing your story with me brother 🤘

Awesome vidya Joe. I have a 2006 Honda Shadow 750 Aero. So real interested on the autopsy. Although I bought mine with 8k and put 6k on it with nothing but air filter, oil and filters.
My first Car was a Jeep that came with it's transmission in several cardboard boxes. My first Bike (VN750) came with a Salvage title and several dozen boxes of ebay parts and a bent set of front forks. This is the correct way to teach someone how to operate/appreciate any type of machine. make em work on it!

Might wanna bring a pillow and some popcorn for that one, because it's going to be a video unto its own, and as much as I try to edit out all the "dead space" in videos like that, due to the amount of detail that we will be getting into....it's gonna be a long one!

Earlier ones were carved, but after 03(I think) they went to EFI.....same bulletproof kz750 motor, but more modern suspension/brakes/electrical, and they are usually pretty cheap!!.... They weren't a great seller, and the resale value on them has tanked hard in recent years!
Great video, reminds me of my time in the garage with my sons and daughters, explaining how much money you can save doing at least the simpler things yourself. My youngest just bought a 05 Vulcan 800 classic very cheap from a retired lawyer that took great care of it, nothing to do but ride this summer but it goes on the lift this winter for a valve clearance check/adjustment, will be a learning experience again for him but he has been in on a few jobs, rebuilding snowmobiles etc. great to see the younger generation keeping riding/wrenching alive. Best part of those metric bikes is once you get it all together they are near maintenance free besides an oil change and tires. They just seem to start and go like they should. I told him his bike is boring in a good way, does what its supposed to, handles like it should and finds all the gears way too easy.
Yeah, there's everyday riders, like this one, and the metric bikes you named off, then there's the ones that "grow on us" that you cuss like a door to door salesman, but wouldn't THINK of ever getting rid of....
I ride that bike everyday, I did a jet kit , cobra pipes , progressive fork springs and 38 tooth sprocket. Made it a different bike with power and highway performance. That bike is so reliable and comfortable great buy!
This looks like it is going to be a good series on the Honda. I for one am glad that you do work on the metric cruisers. I ride a 2008 1300 V Star myself and your video's make me a little less intimidated of doing some work on the bike for myself.

The audio issues im having seem to originate in the way my camera is processing audio from the external mics I'm using!!...I decided to go with a "handycam" style of camera, over a traditional "body camera"(mirrored)...the one I am currently using is a "Amazon special" that really doesn't have a brand name to it, so you can imagine where it came from😂.... I bought this based on several reviews, and comparison videos on it(I really did do my homework on this unit, I swear!!).... I dunno if I have a bum unit, or it's just that it's not up to the task, but it's having a problem with the input signal from my mics, and as of yet, no amount of fiddling with the gain setting on my mics has been able to resolve....it may be a candidate for a Amazon return here soon!!!

Also my chat was random, I was testing signal since the hurricane a month ago, with a live chat from my bike. Does better early morning or weekend too, due to how many are competing for signal. Wasn't bad, could be better, took 15 days to get all utilities on, a month later debris is still piled up everywhere.. but phone signal is pretty good.

The hole after the air filter is offten used to have the looks of an aftermarket air filter but no dollars left to rejet the carbs

The audio issues im having seem to originate in the way my camera is processing audio from the external mics I'm using!!...I decided to go with a "handycam" style of camera, over a traditional "body camera"(mirrored)...the one I am currently using is a "Amazon special" that really doesn't have a brand name to it, so you can imagine where it came from😂.... I bought this based on several reviews, and comparison videos on it(I really did do my homework on this unit, I swear!!).... I dunno if I have a bum unit, or it's just that it's not up to the task, but it's having a problem with the input signal from my mics, and as of yet, no amount of fiddling with the gain setting on my mics has been able to resolve....it may be a candidate for a Amazon return here soon!!!

@JoeTheMountainJedi we're all competing for the same times, so it's impossible to schedule without quarking another chat. Also my chat was random, I was testing signal since the hurricane a month ago, with a live chat from my bike. Does better early morning or weekend too, due to how many are competing for signal. Wasn't bad, could be better, took 15 days to get all utilities on, a month later debris is still piled up everywhere.. but phone signal is pretty good.

@@JoeTheMountainJedi I "dolled up" a VStar back in the day those goodies. I cringe when I think about it now. And I have a shelf of shame with all sorts of peeling chrome in the garage.
