I can not tell you the excitement I felt when I read your "easter egg dye" headline. I have been using easter egg dyes to dye paper for many years. What I was not expecting was all your amazing imprints and designs. I would say your experiments are 100% successful. Even though you express some uncertainties, I feel all the papers were stunning. I love your lace impressions and the experimenting you did with vinegar and other mediums. May I also suggest using baking powder/bicarbonate soda. Most of the easter egg dyes I find here in Canada are either liquid or tablets. I love the tablets and this is why. I run a childcare and have cared for children for many years. We include this dying process in our crafts all the time....We call it "magic". I break up the tablets to create a powder and though the dust has some faint colour we can not really tell what the colour is. We sprinkle the dust on sheets of paper usually the kind of paper you find on a large roll to create a huge canvas. I then arm the children with spray bottles or water spraying toys and let them spray away. The ooo's and aw"s are priceless very reminiscent of your excitement of when you first revealed your pieces with the lace work. I also find using different strengths of vinegar and or baking soda will react differently depending on the colour of tablets or even brands. We usually add the baking soda directly to the crushed dye tablet and sprinkle and then spray. Watching the reaction is amazing and we usually find ourselves doing this for the better part of a day. I buy the easter dye kits after easter when they are on clearance for pennies on the dollar. I also love that you mentioned the outdoor elements. The sunshine speeds up the drying process and changes the colours. We also love the rain because it does all the work for you. We pick a day when rain is forecast, sprinkle our paper while it is not raining and do a little rain dance, if we are lucky the rain comes down and creates "magic". I could go on and on but then I will be keeping myself from other videos of your amazing work and wonderful heartfelt stories...keep experimenting, that alone is priceless....hugs

Hi Luise! I love how transparent, how raw/natural your videos are! And I enjoy watching your experiments! As for the differing salt reactions, I have experienced using salt in watercolor and have even done the same subject matter 3 times in a row making "salt trees", using fresh salt each time. None of them turned out the same as far as reaction. In my lesson with Lets Make Art here on RUclips they did teach me that it's all about timing, if the piece is completely level also the size of salt, (corse vs fine). Also, not to use iodized salt. Nevertheless, each of my pieces were different. I did winter scenery and used salt again in 3 projects. Each reaction was different even if I tried to replicate the exact same method. I believe in the timing is everything idea for sure, but I think it's even more.

What wonderful artistic pages. You are totally amazing in your quest for interesting design and you love to go that extra mile and try new things and ideas. I used to paint with watercolors and we used salt but never re-used the salt. We were told not too as it wouldn't do what is was suppose to. Perhaps the salt crystals already have absorbed the maximum of water and pigment and can't hold anymore? Try the next time to use 'fresh' salt, I also found that if I just sprinkled crystals so the didn't cover the area too much, I got better results. I think there are many factors, that give different results. One last thing is we never covered the paper with another paper, perhaps it was absorbing too much liquid from above??? I'm not a chemist, perhaps someone will give you more info on why it didn't work. As far as I'm concerned, each sheet was absolutely beautiful and I like surprises and you had a lot. Watching is half the fun...keep doing it. Hugs!

I think the salt issue may be that the first time you used it all of the iodine came out and once dried again there was nothing left in the salt to leave the beautiful marks. Just a thought, if that makes sense lol. This was a very cool, interesting idea! The lacey blue was stunning!! I think all of the papers came out beautifully!!! ✌🏼🧡

These are awesome! Salt needs to be really really wet to work its best. Easter egg dyes need vinegar to set them. I would recommend vinegar water instead of just water. I’ve never seen the powdered Easter egg dye in the US, all I have seen is a hard little tablet and you put vinegar in with the tablet to make it dissolve, I’d like the powders, the effect. I’ve used the little tablets to dye paper but it’s very bright so I finally got smart and mixed it with coffee instead of water and that helps but it’s still pretty bright. I’ve had some saved in my refrigerator for, well since Easter, I hope it’s not moldy, I’m afraid to look.

Wow these are amazing! So inspiring that it's so late here but I'm thinking about getting out the coffee and the papers! So I was just thinking... Was the issue with the salt maybe because you had used it before? I don't know cause I never tried reusing it, but I know the reason it works is because the salt absorbs the liquid so maybe it cant absorb a second time?
