I love how they didn't make Charlotte a villain in this. They could've easily made this another movie where women are fighting each other for a man and I'm so happy they didn't go down that route
I recently saw a post saying that despite everyone mocking Ray for falling in love with a star, it's most likely that he was never in love with a star, but actually had a partner firefly who died, and he knew that was her star. Never picked up on it myself but now it's been pointed out it makes a whole lot of sense
That would imply Ray is over 10 years old given that star was there when Tiana was a kid, and for Fireflies that's really old. Then again, it is a cartoon where one of the elderly lightbugs is inching along with a walker that never touches the ground and has no use since they are flying, so realism in the animal's lifespans may not apply.
Being a person from Louisiana, I love the details of this movie. - Tiana is based on a real woman, her name is Leah Chase - The setting is 1920s Louisiana so the dynamic between her and Lottie actually being best friends is not necessarily common, so it was nice to see. Hence the 2 dudes belittling her. - Also the parallel dynamic of her saving Naveen with the "damsel in distress" mindest instead of it being herself - I also really love the different accents, from Cajun to Acadian - I don't know if you've ever seen the Brandy 1997 Cinderella, but Tiana's blue dress is based on the blue on Brandy wore - New Orleans is still like that but more...wild in a sense, especially during Mardi Gras. A whole bunch of different people. Its the place to go when you wanna have a good time but you also need to be cautious but thats anywhere honestly
I think Mulan has her beat if we don't count Tiana as a child. Tiana has 2 waitressing outfits, 1 song montage dress, 1 original party outfit, 1 ballgown from Lottie, lily wedding dress, new wedding dress, the outfit she wore at the property signing, and then her restaurant success outfit. For 9. Mulan has her pj's, green town dress, white shift, matchmaking undergarments, full matchmaking outfit, full armour, soldier skivvies, soldier pyjamas, medical bandage bralette, and the empire dress, for 10. Bonus: Mulan has a job as a soldier.
This has (imo) the BEST Villain song of all Disney movies, Lion King is really up there too, but "Friends from the other side" is one of the only disney songs I will listen to on LOOP for hours at a time.
Tiana's friend is easily one of the highlights of this film. She is from a completely different background and is a little crazy, but she doesn't let that stop her from being best friends with Tiana.
@@Lola.185The "one good white person" trope? Yes, undeniably. But not outright white saviour, I don't think. Lottie didn't at any point swoop in to solve Tiana's problems for her a la Tom Cruise in the last samurai.
I actually met one of the producers for this movie and he’s just thankful this movie is now getting the attention it deserves and now we are getting a water ride based on this.
Tiana's Place (not palace) currently exists aboard the Disney Wonder cruise ship. It's New Orleans themed, with Tiana and Louis as your hosts and offers a tasty menu of bayou favorites - including her "man catching" beignets. Definitely a fun time and if they make a land-based version at one of the parks, I am sure it will do well.
That is Keith David (who you may know as the Voice of Spawn from the HBO animated series and MK11) doing the Voice for Dr Facilier and it is an Amazing performance, along with an Iconic ending with him being Dragged to essentially Hell
I've got this image in my head now of Spawn being in charge of Dr. Facilier's eternal torment. They should have made one of the voodoo spirits resemble Spawn.
Don't know how true it is, but I heard that when casting Naveen the different audition tapes were taken around and played to the women in the different departments and they were asked to choose the most attractive sounding voice and it was overwhelmingly the choice that we hear in the film... I have to say that I would be in agreement if I had been asked! 😂
Lottie (Charlotte, the blonde friend) is one of my fav Disney side characters. She's such a good friend, so different from the typical portrayal of what that she could've been. Being spoiled and rich didn't mean she wasn't a good person, which I absolutely LOVED. Also, as a POC Tiana was always one of my all time fav princesses (Second to Jasmine)
Tiana and Naveen are my favorite Disney couple. They are so well written and are so charming together. I’d say Tiana is my favorite Disney Princess as well. She feels so real and relatable.
It's the magic. They're originally human and turned into frogs. So I took it as the magic just allowed them to still speak to humans because they aren't originally animals. Also remember Tiana could hear and understand Naveen. Greg, the Chicago reference was 🤌🏽💚
Disney turned Tiana into a frog for 70% of the runtime because they knew she was too powerful and they could never get the kids to care about any of the princesses that came before her without a tad bit of sabotaging
i can assure you that yes New Orleans is still like this and in fact its way more lively and has similar music playing all the time lmao. I try and head out there every weekend and it just gets better and better. Also the voodoo and all. Food is the best part as well. It's a very chaotic but pleasant city.
My wife and I actually did a tour of the swamp that Disney used for the inspiration for the swamp in this movie a few months ago and it was just as beautiful in person.
Can we just talk about Tiana''s best friend. Like she's got that sense of entitlement to her but when it comes right down to it she's actually a really awesome and amazing supportive friend. She offers to give up her shot at happiness just so Tiana can be happy. Charlotte (Lottie) is actually one of the best supportive characters. Even if she's not in much of the movie, she shows just how much she values Tiana as a friend. P.S. Not to mention she actually helped Tiana in her dream to open a restaurant (Well tried) She even offered to pay the rest (I believe.) I honestly love Lottie.
There's a restaurant in Downtown Disney called Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen. It's based on this movie. It's my favorite restaurant of all time. You can get New Orleans food, including beignets! There are also Princess and the Frog cookbooks.
