I made the garlic butter recipe. Best rice recipe. Ever. My family said it tasted like the best fried rice you’ve ever had. It had that umami characteristic. Thank you.
Maria, I’m one of your senior citizen viewers and I truly appreciate the way you explain and share. I feel like you’re showing some folks who might not know much about cooking how to actually do it. I’ve cooked for more than 55 years and I’m always happy to learn something new. With rice I don’t rinse it although I look it over the same way I do beans. I don’t want it wet because I always fry it in the fat for a couple of minutes before I add the liquid.
I love when you take a product and use it several different ways which in the end saves us money. Cooking for only myself (widow) I cut the recipe in half or more but gets me out of the rut of the same old, same old. Thanks.
I just made a rice cooker full of rice, pinto beans and peas. Seasoned with taco seasoning. Once done and scooped into my bento boxes, I drizzled garlic sauce ontop and added some diced sausage.
I ended up with 20 lbs of rice and while I love rice, I was running out of ways to make it and we were really getting tired of rice. These are going to break up the monotony nicely. Thank you 💕
You might want to watch some Meals with Maria videos from about a year ago like 84 meals for $30 and 60 meals for $20. There are some good rice recipes in them.
I get a large jar of chopped garlic from the Dollar tree, now $1.25 It is handy and it is a lot of garlic for the cost. Also we had no onions in my area for a few months. I bought dry minced onion for .98 at Walmart. I put what I needed in boiling water a couple minutes and then sauteed as usual. As a senior, having a huge bag of onions sometimes a few get away from me.
I do the same. I hate that produce gets away from me. I've recently even purchased dehydrated bell peppers and celery, as well. A bigger up front cost, but my guilt for waste has been eliminated. My pantry cooking has improved greatly.
I love making rice pudding. I boil rice in milk then let it simmer until soft. I add some sugar and lots of cinnamon. A very affordable and tasty dessert.
When my kids were at home I used to make broccoli rice. I made rice while broccoli was steaming add together add cube of butter salt to taste. Delish. Loved your ideas too. Can't wait to make them. Blessings!!
I'm not a broccoli fan, but if it was diced finely and maybe some additional shredded cheese was part of the butter and salt, all of a sudden it sounds delicious! 🤣
Other things you can do. If you make a ramen noodle salad, save the seasoning packets and toss them in with rice. Also, break up some dried spaghetti noodles, brown them off in butter, add your rice, stirring for a bit, then stock or onion soup mix. Homemade Rice a Roni. Leftover meat works in it too.
Let’s talk about rice? Not rice, rice, baby?? Cmon, Maria! 😉 This was great - thank you. My husband grew up eating a lot of rice and my family only ate it occasionally, so he loves it and wants it all the time but I struggle to make it interesting. So helpful! That garlic business looks amazing.
Loved the singing at the beginning and the Survivor reference- my sister always tells me that she wants to go on Survivor to lose weight and I always say I’ll provide her with all the rice and dirty water she can handle!😂 These all look delicious. Thank you for sharing Maria!
Rinsing or washing rice removes that excess starch, resulting in grains that are more separate when cooked. (There’s the added benefit that rinsing rice before cooking can reduce the level of arsenic, but FDA research shows that the impact is minimal on the cooked grain.) When it comes to rice dishes that call for the grains to stick together more, such as rice pudding or risotto made with arborio rice, the advice is split. According to America’s Test Kitchen editor in chief Dan Souza, “You want to avoid [rinsing] if you’re making something like risotto or rice pudding. We found that rinsing compromises that desirable creamy consistency.”
Wow ‼️ These look delicious. The garlic rice and the spinach rice for sure. I'm a rice FAN for sure. Spanish rice, steamed white rice, pilaf and egg fried rice. Those are the only rice dishes I've ever made so today's video gives me two more rice dishes! I know you said your husband loved the onion soup rice...but I'll have to try it maybe with chicken (??) Anyway, thank you for another great video Maria! A blessed Easter to you ‼️🙌🏻❤️
Note on the onion soup rice: try the recipe with 1 cup of white rice; 1 can French Onion soup; one can of Beef Consomme’; 1 8 oz. Can of sliced mushrooms undrained; and 4 tablespoons of butter (yes, the original recipe I was given 45 years ago also called for 1 whole stick of butter - I thought that was too much, but it’s definitely buttery!). Mix it all up in a casserole dish with a lid and bake for 45 @ 350 degrees. You can take off the lid and bake for a few more minutes to remove a little moisture. My recipe is titled “Brown Rice” simple because of the color when it comes out of the oven. However, I’m trying your recipe because it’s hotter that h-e-double-hockey-sticks in Florida right now, and I don’t always like firing up the oven! 🥵
Again, Maria, you remind me always of recipes that I’ve forgotten …my sister and I were reminiscing yesterday how much as a kid we loved it when my Mom made oven rice for dinner… she was cooking for five kids and we were always hungry!!! By the way, you look very pretty today with your hair down and light makeup on!! Have fun Easter with your kiddos and husband😘😘

I will definitely be trying out that spinach rice very soon! Half a pound of frozen chopping spinach and way too much rice to admit to that needs to get eaten.

Risotto would use stock, but probably have onion and parmigiano and the starch from the rice cooking little by little with the stick makes it creamier.
