    "Sweet rice"
over here in sweden, a staple for a long time around christmas and the colder months of the year we do "rice porridge", which is often served sweet- either topped with cinnamon and sugar, or with a berry-syrup-sauce.
we do call it rice-grain porridge, or also "tomegröt", or santa porridge,
in old tradition, the small gnomes (or tomtar) were given a bowl of hot porridge with melted butter on top of it as a reward during wintertime, for their good work done around the farms :>
(we do not usually do the butter-thing on the porridge anymore)
we also have "risifrutti", which is a rice pudding with sweet jam on the side, bought in small containers at the store and usually used as a snack or cold meal for kids.

i live in nashville, go to monell's in germantown for classic southern food (served family style, fried chicken available at every meal every day, it is SO good). for hot chicken: if you want conventional, hattie b's is obviously the most well-known (if you want an easier experience go to the one on 8th ave versus the broadway/music row locations). if you want true hot chicken go to prince's. if you want genuinely spicy hot chicken go to bolton's and trust them when they say mild or medium

When making fried rice, don't salt the vegetables during the cooking. Don't know if you did or didn't, just giving a tip for the others. If you salt too early, the veggies get mushy. If you want a little snap to them, high heat and no salt. Salt at the end after adding the soy sauce. Also, cornstarch or potato starch before refrigerating over night rice will prevent clumping and create extra crispy bits on the rice. If you use cornstarch, undercook the rice a tiny bit and let it rehydrate with the cooking.

Have you ever lied? stolen? hated? been prideful? gossiped? swore? Or other bad things? I Can say without a doubt we’ve at least done something that was considered bad, consciously that we shouldn’t have done. this is called sin. It’s the act of doing something against what God wants in our lives.
Think about this. You have just invited someone over to your house, and that means you can place rules on what they do - because it’s your home! Now lets say this said person directly disobeyed the rules you’ve placed while they were there. you would be offended right?
This is exactly the situation with us and God. We are the person staying over in His creation, yet we consciously disobey- which is called Sin. We all have this problem and because of this God has to send us to hell because He is so just can’t just let these wrong doings pass. Think of it as a guilty criminal having to be sentenced to jail because the Judge knows it’s right. We are the guilty criminal. Hell is our punishment. And God is that Judge.
Well, this would mean that everyone would go to hell because we’ve all committed sin-disobedience from God, consciously. But here’s the good news. Jesus came to die on the cross, taking our punishment upon Himself, for our sins so we don’t need to go to hell. Think of that same analogy with the criminal. Now there is a person that’s willing to bail that criminal out and if that criminal accept that gift of bail, then they will be able to legally be free.
If we accept that, Jesus died on the cross for our sins and repent- turn away from sin-then we will be saved because we take His bail that He offers for free so we can go to heaven.

The rice cooker rice reminds me of the Shanghai vegetable rice (cai fan) we make. You use a leafy veg that can standup to blanching or boiling like bok Choy. We use Shanghai bok Choy. Plus a salted pork for protein. No egg though. Whether to partially cook the rice beforehand may be controversial at our house. The trick is you want to cook the vegetable with the rice a little so the vegetable broth gets absorbed by the rice as it cooks. Some people parboil the rice beforehand but I remember my grandma on my mom's side stir frying the soaked raw rice grains with the veg stem part, other ingredients that will take longer to cook, and cut up salted meats then adding water and any other leaves or soft ingredients to cook all on one pan. We have been adding diced carrots lately for colour but I have seen other places add mushroom or bamboo shoots.

I think the coconut milk rice pudding is a South Indian dish so I wanted to suggest the North Indian version of it which is easier (and in my opinion tastier). It’s called ‘Kheer’, and all you need to do is take semi cooked rice, although a day old rice will also work.
Simply take a good amount of milk, add a couple of green cardamom pieces and a stick of cinnamon (using whole spice instead of powder will allow the dish to have a clean white color) and boil it till it thickens a bit, then add the rice and sugar as per preference. Simmer for a few more minutes till rice is soft but not completely mush and it’s ready.
It’s great hot but even better refrigerated and cold. Although it’s not considered a ‘meal’, instead it’s eaten as a dessert but you could fill up with a bowl of ‘Kheer’ as well.
