    Chest dips were my favorite exercise. I went from only doing 3-5 to doing them with 40 lbs hanging from my legs in a very short amount of time. Bones get stronger through microfractures the same way muscles get stronger through microtears. My muscles learned to handle that weight, but my bones didn't, so it bruised my sternum very badly and I had to lay off all chest exercises for over a year, and having any kind of slouching posture made my chest hurt a lot.
    Now my sternum is recovered stronger than before and I am back to doing chest dips. But now I do them un-weighted, even if it is 20 reps. I will add small weight eventually. Eat fish, bone broth, and have good posture. Slouching puts a lot of stress on your sternum.
    Good luck to all who read this.

    Hey pavel! I've been following you on here for almost two years and I'm so glad you're back making videos again! Also I have a suggestion for a video, I remember back in your leg workout tutorial you said that you were a long distance runner. I'm also a long distance runner and I compete in the army ranger challenges. I think that it would be awesome if you could make a video on how to increase your stamina and speed in long distance running. Thanks! : )

    man bro, you just answered my question I have been looking for, for months. I think because of my inconsistent chest workouts just recently, I started getting that pain, when I would NEVER have had that before during a good run of consistency. I thought I was breaking my chest apart like in Alien, so I stopped doing them for awhile.
    Thank you!!

    Just for clarification: The "shoulder" isn't a bone. Your humerus is a bone, your clavicle is, and so is your scapula, but your shoulder isn't a bone. Some people say it's not even a joint but rather a complex since you'd need to differentiate between glenohumeral, acromioclavicular, and even the thoracoscapular joint.

  • @Ichithix

    I used to get this when I started and it would linger for days. Taking a little time off to completely heal up and also making sure I did my dips in a slow and controlled way solved the problem. Dropping and catching yourself puts a lot of unnecessary stress on your chest, but it's easy to forget and lose control if you're getting fatigued.

    Yup, that's what it is! As a gymnast, I remember having chest pain when I started doing heavy weighted dips on parallel bars. I just had to take it easier for a little bit and then get back at it, and the pain went away after less than a month if I remember well. The pain also comes from plain and simple irritation at the muscle attachment, and is more likely to happen to younger men and women because their bones and cartilages aren't as strong yet. So if you're a teenager starting out training and doing dips, you're a lot more likely to get chest pains than if you were a 30 year old in the same situation.

  • @AntonioDal.
    @AntonioDal. 6 лет назад

    costochondritis is pain caused by the inflammation of the cartilage between the sternum and the ribs. You need to avoid doing any exercise which causes stress on the ribs/sternum. Other upper body exercises should be done in lower weight higher reps until your problem is solved. The ribs can move like a joint around the sternum and around your vertebra. If your ribs arent moving freely(frozen/locked) at your back(vertebra) then there will be too much stress around your sternum(front) which could be the cause of inflammation and pain. You could also try to foam roll your upper back which might make your rib joints more mobile which could reduce stress around the sternum.

Just natural exercise(s). Thank you.

      kommando its been a year now whats up? still pain from dips?

    • @justryan2070
      @justryan2070 6 лет назад +1

      I wouldn't do that. I have read a lot that the crack/pop is caused by a pressure buildup as a result of costochrondritis. When you pop it you treat the symptoms and not the cause. Eventually it gets worse in the long run. Suggested methods include manipulation of the thoracic spine, massage and strengthening the read delt and back muscles while backing off pushing exercises. Slowly get back into presses and let the connective tissue in the sternum and bone integrity build over time. Pain isn't a good sign. If done right the dips should strengthen those areas without having to go through pain.

      I fucked my chest up for about 6 months (same issue) last year, I'm really not sure how I did it. This year I went to low on a dip and felt it pop, now their is a sharp pain whenever I use it, when I laugh or sneeze it is so bad. Apparently it should heal in a week (my doctor told me that on Monday) and its Thursday and it hasn't felt any different

      +tas viktoras I used a heating pad, for me the pain went away quite a bit whenever I put it on. It really just takes time, and you have to stay off it as much as possible so it heals faster.

  • @VygantasP
    @VygantasP 8 лет назад +3

    In my experience why you get pain is:
    I Used to do more cardio, more dips, pushups and other exercises outdoor. I was more athletic and had no pain doing dips. After a while of not working out, im back into the gym, got a little bulked, my chest got bigger and now when im doing dips pain got me too. So I think exercising with your own weight could solve the problem. Because it attacks bones and muscles in a different way. And as author said you need some sort of a layer on your chestbone which helps to stop muscles from squeezing it. So I guess theres two ways to solve the problem. Do more exercises to train middle chest or to do more ex with your own weight (pushups, dips and stuff) .

    • @tubax926
      @tubax926 6 лет назад

      Surup Sowmithri there's always a middle doesn't matter if horizontally or vertically, but you are right, but she is also right because incorporating chest isolation exercises will strengthen your chest and the bone if you do the machine dip. In my opinion after you do dips rest for a long while before doing them because bones take a longer time than muscles to regenerate. This way you will correctly improve and the pain will eventually cease and you'll end up with a very dense sternum.

    • @tubax926
      @tubax926 6 лет назад

      Just do raw dips, rest for a week or two, then do them again, and so on. The pain will cease in no time.
      E: if you do have a lot body fat, or you just started working out, your muscles still aren't strong enough for dips, focus on pushups, a lot of them.

      +Kyle Cummings Fitness hi dude, i had slight elbow inflammation through doing hundreds of push ups everyday, however it was more directed to area of tricep muscle slightly above my elbow joint (medial head - long head), it felt like tearing, but i continued and made sure i ate well, recovered like usual and warmed up more thoroughly (i personally like to use resistance bands and regular stretches). then continued my routine like usual. i would recommend various stretches and taking your workout intensity slow, gradually building it up, and taking care of your system and body to avoid any injury. hope i helped man !

    if that helps anyone...i've been training seriously for about 5 weeks, doing upper body on monday, wednesday and friday to let the body recover. Now im starting to feel that the pain is fading away. I mean, at the next day to the workout my chest used to feel sore, but after this 5 weeks that soreness its starting to be weaker day by day.
    Don't push the tendons to much by letting the body rest well and it seems to be all fine.

    • @tubax926
      @tubax926 6 лет назад

      TheShorty0ne yes but in my opinion if you do raw dips, and suffer from a lot of sharp pain, rest for a week or two, yes, a week, because bones take more time than muscles to regenerate, then do them again, then repeat. The pain will go in no time. Do not do weighted dips until you can do 20 normal dips without pain

    Actually there is a little chance that you crack your sternum horizontally, if you are not strong enough. In that case, your cracked sternum behaves as if there is a newly formed joint, which usually makes a cracking sound (snap).

Fasting heals almost anything and very quickly.I was told from other people who had the same injury that it would take about 6 months to heal and I didn’t want to wait that long.

    I was doing dips with a 55lb dumbbell between my feet and on the 8th rep I felt this painful pop in my upper sternum and now whenever I Benchpress it hurts. Currently hoping I won't have to take time off and lose all gains.

      It's either muscular pain or your sternum bones can move around. Be careful not to overextend downward as your muscles are much stronger now. Watch yourself perform the dip in a mirror or look over at your arms as you reach the bottom of the motion. You elbows should not be above your shoulders.

    Is it dangerous I mean it's ok that boned get stronger through tears but I m facing the similar situation right know, some say it is costocondritis ,if it is how long will it take to heal and can I gym post recovery ,if anybody does know pl answer me iam very upset since my sternum area git injured through dips ,moreover is it a scientific fact that bones too heal and get stronger
