    I say everyone involved with the rail should automatically be forced into retirement from any important government job. This "helping the people" type of job is not for them.

      Yes I agree. Had they pass this way back when Mayor Fasi bought it to the table it would be functioning today at a way less price tag also, but no instead they waited all these years to approve it. I don’t know what Mufi Hanneman was fricking thinking to bring this up putting the generations in debt to pay for this monstrosity. 🤦🏼‍♀️

      I WAS SHOCKED to hear that THEY'RE demolishing the Stadium for Condominiums.... THE Paradise island is turning into New York City, surrounded by OCEANS...... HOW MANY MILLIONS OF THE HAWAI'IAN TAX PAYERS MONEY IS WASTED WITH EVERY UNFINISHED PROJECT.... These Project's never come in at the Cost discussed at the planning stages. These rail system's always sound fantastic, but, rarely meet the standards and requirements put forth, "WITH THE OH! THAT SOUNDS WONDERFUL --- LET'S DO IT" We also have these Monstrous UNSIGHTLY concrete towers that the Rail is going to Run on..... IN OUR COUNTRY.....
      SINCE COVID, NO ONE WANT'S TO USE IT, IT'S NOT CLEANED AND IS FACTUALLY UNHEALTHY... NO WINDOWS, WASTED MONEY....
      NEVER DO DEVELOPER'S EVER STOP AND SAY LET'S NOT DO IT... IT'S GOING TO BE COSTLY, UNSIGHTLY - "NON- FUNCTIONAL" ... THAT'S A WORD ISN'T IT.... The GOVERNOR and or MAYOR of Oahu, is it one of their buddies.... or getting kickbacks.....

      It's already running, NOW, between Kapolei/Ewa and Aloha Stadium/Pearl Harbor.
      But it's not open --- yet. They just do "test drives". I've seen it running many times already.
      The Pearlridge station looks totally finished. Maybe they're waiting until the Airport station is ready.
      Then the entire Ewa branch (Airport to Kapolei/Ewa) could be put into use.

    Absolutely ridiculous that it will be cut short. Anyone who has ever been to major European or Asian countries can see how far ahead they are in terms of transit infrastructure. There, the linking of core business districts to outlying areas is efficient: why can't we have that too? The Ala Moana area comprises a huge slice of our economy as a tourism and local business cluster. The location is close to Waikiki and is well suited. This is our loss.

    • @ericmarshall8097
      @ericmarshall8097 2 года назад +1

      Hello,it costs too much. Why don't you and the other cronies pay the extra 2 billion dollars to get the 2 last stations done. As for those who are in Asia I live in Osaka and catch the train here on weekdays for over an hour. I can vouch that it sucks the living soul right out of you compared to the freedom of driving. Plus they got the land for the tracks and stations bought decades if not hundreds of years ago. Plus they would let people get scammed by the developers and politicians. Plus it's expensive if you buy the monthly pass. It's priced out from station to station is usually over $150 a month. If go to a different stations you pay that separately. It's crowded often you have to stand for an hour in my case. The whining your doing about not making it to Ala Moana it outrageous since you don't even live near the rail to even use it. Statistically 90% or more of the population of the island doesn't live near it but if they even do they don't work anywhere near the other end of it. It's too slow 18 stations in 18 miles estimate a 1 min per station there is no way you from 1 end to the other in an hour No drivers mean more crime. I was groped in Japan by a guy once in rush hour I can't imagine all the potential crimes that will take place on it. And if you think I am just blowing off steam and should not be on your case so hard. I ran for state office in 2010, 2012, & 2014 against rail knowing it was exactly the boondoggle that it has become. The price tag of it and the Dems policies is why I and countless others can't live in my and their own hometown.

    A proposal for getting to ala moana cheaply is to just closing down Kona street and just let rail be on ground level in Ala moana. It may seem that drivers can't enter Ala Moana's parking or walk to the center due to the sealed railway but the sheer amount of grade separations such as the many bridges going over Kona street connecting to bypass entrances on Kapiolani and Piikoi Streets that allow entering the center without any contact on Kona Street. This can also allow easier extensions to UH Manoa and Waikiki without the sheer amount of demolition required for a elevated guideway. May save $1-2 billion dollars and makes Ala Moana more walkable, while still having a sealed system for rail.

    • @Planettransit
      @Planettransit Год назад +1

      Also, half of Queen street between Kamakee Street in Ward to Pensacola Street Can be closed as well, especially as the street has up to two to three lanes on the left of the up to 5 lane road. The remaining street can be road dieted to 3 lane by-directional street. In this right-of-way, Rail can be mostly a ground level system, with only 2, small bridges for Piikoi Street and Pensacola Streets with retaining wall viaducts like the ones seen in Leeward Community College. This would save an additional 1 billion dollars, while making large parts of Kakaako walkable. There is many other roads that can be used as bypasses, for the intersections being cut from Queen Street which added up with the bridges would maintain the desired sealed system. It would also discourage many drivers from driving and encourage more rail ridership.

      They will be self-IDLING cars in rush hour traffic, just like current cars.
      That's where rail is better --- no traffic, no traffic jams, not affected by accidents or rush hour.

    • @gregcarter8656
      @gregcarter8656 2 года назад +1

      @Liberty Press More than two thirds of the length is already finished. It's already running between Kapolei and Halawa, albeit "test drives". Pearlridge station looks 100% finished. The total cost is reduced by federal money, so it's not borne by Oahu taxpayers only. It's being done, whether you like it or not. IF managed properly, rail user fees will eventually cover the cost and then generate profit. But that's a very big IF. We'll see what happens.

    This is what they get for making it over engineered and overpromised if they would have made it a typical light rail running down the middle lane of the road and then some side areas on different paths and only go above grade for sections like the airport and ala Moana Center and maybe Chinatown this could have been simpler and done by now and just have it share some bus stops and some exclusive express lanes than the middle and just use the money for track rebuild the road and markers it could have been still nice out of the way and when ala Moana center was building the new extension they could have built a nice station same with the airport and the transits! I don't get the whole purpose of making the whole system automated and lifted we're trying to keep jobs and make more jobs not make things robotic 🤦

    A hub and spoke system is what's best for Honolulu.
    Middle Street should be the hub, and HART would be just one of the spokes.
    At Middle Street, a fleet of express buses would transport passengers to various parts of Honolulu.
    With the demise of Love's Bakery, the Middle Street property can be enlarged to allow more buses.
    The downtown civic center probably isn't large enough to serve as a hub. What will the passengers transfer to if they need to go to Waikiki or to the UH Manoa? Is there room enough for the buses required during the morning rush hour?
