Amazing recording... I've heard this many different times, and have even played it, but this might be the most memorable of all. In many places they take their time... Especially on the Andante, you can hear all of the notes. Yet in the 4th movement, it's the most energetic I've ever heard... Amazingly well played and thoughtfully interpreted... just loved it!

I was lucky enough to get a ticket to a Tchahikovsky concert here in the Musikverein which was being televised back to Russia as it was the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra and the music was almost secondary to the magnificence of this setting. It just blows you away. I would like to have heard this or the 9th there.

This was not an easy Beethoven 5 to listen to;. My opinion, is this is closer to what Beethoven heard in his head. I don't know if it is this performance, or now that I'm older, not how I heard it when I was 5 or 17 or 27; but I heard notes I hadn't heard before until now. But Thieleman's interpretation is one that has to be listened to several times in which to get acclimated. It connects to everything. It hits you in the gut, which I (just speaking for myself) feel was Beethoven's intention (similar to his "Eroica").
I am not the same listener, nor human as I was before this performance. My profound love for Ludwig has been increased a thousand-fold.
    Thank you.

The dynamism of the 4th movement is absolutely amazing.
Fisher Ivan at Concertgebouworkest is at the same level 10 out of 10, but this fourth movement is 11 out of 10 in my opinion. Look Thieleman's face at then end. Like Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros.
Thank you Maestro, thank you Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, great great work.
